FAQs for booking flights from Portland to Tampa

  • Will my family be seated together throughout the journey from Portland to Tampa?

Families with children love traveling with American Airlines for good reasons: The airline ensures that anyone flying with a child under 15 remains together. Their system can detect a family and search for the most suitable spots. Ensure everyone is included while making your flight reservations through KAYAK. The earlier you book, the better because seats will be less as the departure date approaches. Use the seat map to select seats for your family.

  • Can I get a budget-friendly airline with no middle seat?

There are more advantages to not being in the middle seat when flying. Luckily, Silver Airways airplanes have no middle seats, and there are no cabin classes. You'll either sit on a window or aisle seat, reducing the disturbance of nearby passengers asking to move past you when going to the lavatory.

  • What are the requirements for flying with a pet in a passenger cabin?

The recommended size of a kennel is 18 x 11 x 11 inches. Delta Air Lines requires pets to fit in a small, well-ventilated kennel (on three sides) to fit underneath the seat directly in front of you. Your pet must move comfortably inside its container, which must be leak-proof and have a secure door. Ensure your pet remains in the carrier when boarding, alighting, and at the airport lounges.

  • On which airlines can I buy carbon offsets?

Flights contribute to carbon emissions that lead to warmer climates and planet degradation. JetBlue has a carbon fund whereby eco-friendly passengers can buy offsets. The funds are used in projects geared toward cleaning the air with solar and wind power technologies and conserving the Brazilian rainforest.

  • What is the cheapest flight from Portland to Tampa?

KAYAK’s top tips for finding a cheap flight from Portland to Tampa

  • Looking for a cheap flight? 25% of our users found flights on this route for $119 or less one-way and $338 or less round-trip.
  • To connect through Washington, D.C., consider flying with American Airlines and stopping at Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA). Sometimes, they offer connections through Charlotte Douglas Airport (CLT) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). If you prefer the New York City route, use JetBlue and stop at LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Atlanta Airport (ATL) and Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) are the usual stops for Delta Air Lines, while United Airlines' layover can be at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
  • You don't have to overpay for your bags and other add-ons on this route. While many airlines charge for extra bags, Southwest allows you to fly from Portland International Jetport (PWM) to Tampa International Airport (TPA) with two checked bags for no cost. Bring a carry-on bag – it won't count against your baggage allowance.
  • If your flight has a stopover, say PWM-LGA-TPA, ensure that your seat has plenty of legroom, as your flight time will likely last more than 6 hours. JetBlue standard seats are more spacious than most airlines. The pitch or space between seats is 32" on A320 and 33" on A321. Claim the maximum legroom (37" -41") by paying extra.
  • Book a flight with Breeze Airways to upgrade your fare to a higher class. The low-budget carrier offers three categories of fare: Nice, Nicer, and Nicest, similar to Economy, Business, and First Class flights. Any class you switch to will be free of change fees.
  • Nursing mothers can board American Airlines planes with soft-sided breastmilk coolers, moms' breast pumps, and one baby item. Such items are not checked, so you can still have them even when not flying with an infant. Moreover, the airline staff will show you their designated nursing rooms at the airports, such as the lactation room at the Airside on the Concourse level, near gates five and six of Portland International Jetport (PWM).

I was surprised with Breeze Airlines. It was my first time flying with them, and I was hesitant. It was a great experience. The seats are really comfortable. You have much more space than other airlines, and they are better quality seats. The service was amazing, and we landed almost an hour before schedule. It was an amazing experience; I really recommend Breeze Airlines.

Ridiculous to have to pay for carry on and to pick seats

We did have a delay but nothing that affected our schedule to terribly. Breeze is the best budget airline that we have found for the eastern seaboard. Price is good. Baggage rates aren't terrible. I suggest checking a bag which gets you more bang for your buck. They fly into smaller airports which is so much easier than trying to get through Logan or JFK. Overall good trip.

First time flying Breeze everything went smoothly. Left early and arrived early to our destination. Definitely will be flying again with them!😊

Great! Only problem is we can’t use the northbound flight on this route as it arrives much too late and is not non-stop.

Given some type of snack. Had staff that hated their job and life in general. Have regular overhead bins. The bags have to go sideways and even then, they barely fit. The seats in the front - what would be considered business class were nice. Nothing extra but nice for a short flight. But the regular seats were so close I have no idea how people even fit it them.

Our gate was changed twice, but since they were super close it wasn't an issue. We were delayed 90 mins or so, which wasn't great, but sometimes that's just what happens. Communication was the issue. We weren't kept informed about delays--with more information I would have gotten a real meal, taken a "bio break" and purchased a new book. Because another. flight was being updated more frequently about their delays, I thought ours would be shorter and stayed close by. It left me feeling more frustrated than was necessary.

Your feedback should include a "not applicable" button. There was no food, nor entertainment on our flight. Also, a snack on a short flight will be nice to have

Boarding at BDL gate 24 was confused, but balanced out by friendly, responsive gate attendants. The crew were friendly and made for a straightforward flight. Seats were fine, but the aircraft needs to go in for cabin maintenance. The air nozzles overhead were all loose and could not be closed or adjusted.

Head rest did not move, very uncomfortable. Staff was great. There was no entertainment, would be nice not to have to pay for snack.

Plane crashed into a bus or some other vehicle on the ground while pulling out of the gate. No injuries, but wing tip was damaged and returned to gate for “maintenance issues” and we departed 5 hours later because the plane went out of service and new plane was flown in from a nearby airport, Midway.

Ever since Southwest starting charging for bags, passengers don't want to pay to check their bags, so the gate agents have to beg people to check their roller bags now because there's "not enough space". This was a terrible business move by Southwest.

Full cans of soda would be nice. A choice between two snacks would be appreciated.

Tried watching free movie and it kept freezing so I couldn’t finish.

All was good. I just had a hard time getting connected to the WiFi/internet during the flight

Sacrament staff are always polite and helpful. Airport is easy to maneuver and boarding is straightforward.

Great flight. Outstanding Service. Southwest was able to put us on a direct flight to Denver when the connection could have been affected by a later arrival to Baltimore. The direct flight was less expensive that the flight with the connection in Baltimore.

Delays delays delays. Late taking off, late landing, wait for a gate, etc.

Boarded on time but once we were ready for take off, the crew determined that, although every seat was taken, somehow someone was on the wrong flight. Delay, delay delay, announcements and ended up with one person checking EVERY ID against their passenger Manifest only to figure out it was a "clerical error." We departed 54 minutes late causing me to run in the St. Louis Airport to make my connection and lose the priority boarding spot I had paid for. Unnecessary delay.

I was re-booked onto another flight because my original flight was delayed and I would have missed my connector. I ended up in the “C” group after paying extra to be in the “A “ group on the original flight. At least if you’re going to re-book people, re-book them into the same group.

I truly love flying with Delta. They have always treated me with the upmost respect

Our flight attendant in FIRST CLASS was one of the worst I’ve ever had. She was not at all pleasant, nor particularly good at her service.

Everything went well and was good. Nothing exceptional, but no complaints either. Cheap seats are pretty comfortable.

Staff were friendly and happy. Delta could make sure passengers that don't have the app know of changes. Without Kayak I would not have known about the change of gate or the delay. Kayak was faster to notify me.

They ended up paying for the bag twice, but the counter wouldn't take my baggage receipt. Left it to me to resolve. Not sure how to resolve the issue.

The customer service before board was very rude and when I expressed my concerns about making the connecting flight she laughed and told me I bought the wrong ticket. I explained once it showed the flight was delayed it no longer let me change seats or anything. I was trying to upgrade to make sure I would get to the next gate on time.

The flight was an hour and a half late departing which was inconvenient

The flight was great. The gate location was way to far away!!!

The flight attendant in first class was beyond rude and didn't care at all about her job. AND the gate agent was even worse than the flight attendant for rudeness. She was awful.

Movie selection was meh. Food was great. Crew as always great. I paid for premium because that’s the only way not to feel like a sardine. That’s how economy should be imo. Sadly passengers have to pay an extra $1000 to get what they should at base price but that’s all airlines. The airline industry in general treats passengers as cargo.

Delays to take off and to leave the plane after landing added a lot of time to this flight.

It was a red eye flight, so no meals were provided, but it was fine with snacks. The seats felt cramped and almost too narrow.

We didn't take off until an hour after we boarded.

Wish they had the seat-back video screens for watching movies or playing games.

Very good but wish they had the seat-back video screens for movies & games

Flight was delayed not sure why no explanation given and no apologies either. Otherwise the flight was fine

While waiting to claim my checked luggage, I discovered the airline had lost it. After a long wait and inquiries, I discovered it was on another flight. Fortunately, the airline finally sent my luggage home.

Flight delays numerous times. Everytime we would get close to boarding it would be delayed again. Strung along the entire time.

This flight never occurred because AA couldn’t get their act together.

The plane was probably full boarding was easy. We were able to check our carry-on luggage for free. It was a return flight through Philly to LA. Never saw a stewardess do a demonstration of emergency Procedures. I think my flight was pretty full

There was no one at the counter to assist with our check in. The app didn’t work, so I arrived at the airport with time to check in and I couldn’t because no employees were there. When I finally got someone on the phone, it was inside the 60min rule and they said I could no longer check in and they could sell me another ticket. We had to scramble and pay an additional $800 for tickets and THEN AFTER (about 60 min from my original convo with customer service and 10min after original departure time) I had boarded my new flight, there was email saying my original flight from Frontier was delayed and leaving 2hr 50min later, but I STILL wouldn’t have been able to check in. Which means customer service should have been able to see it and let me check in because I was well within my check in time. When I call Frontier, they hang up on me. So their app didn’t work and they employees left and they take zero responsibility or assistance with their “customer service”

Terrible. Flight cancelled with no reasoning and no flights to rebook. Employees were useless and did nothing to help. Did not even know where to retrieve luggage from the cancelled flight. Flyers beware.

No fault of Frontier staff: plane was very late, reached Orlando at 1 am, took a while to get luggage. Weather, gov financial shutdown impact on TSA, air controllers seemed to have multiple flights backed up. Frontier staff seemed to cope as gracefully as possible. It did reassure me that I and my new hip could adapt to travel challenges. Food/entertainment were irrelevant to my trip.

Terrible. The canceled my entire flight when I requested a refund for a trip frontier canceled trip one way.

Boarding was on time and plane departed as scheduled. There are obviously no amenities (food, drink, entertainment) on Frontier, but there also didn't seem to be any issues with luggage space either.

Inbound plane was on time and flight departed on time with no issues while boarding.

It was well done. It was my first time flying with them and I was nervous b/c I have heard of many cancelled and/or delray flights. Everything went smoothly.

Frontier is the Walmart of airlines. Frontier has removed adjustability and comfort from their seats to make the flight lighter and save gas. This makes it impossible to sleep on their flights. Their customer service is abysmal. Once, I bought a drink on the plane, and they swiped my credit card on the plane to pay for it. Then I got three weeks of daily notices from my bank telling me they tried to charge the wrong card number over and over again. I tried to call them, but they removed the ability to actually talk to someone that can resolve such a problem from their company to cut corners. The only way to talk to someone in person is to go to the check-in counter at the airport (40 minutes drive from my house). Eventually their system gave up on trying to charge the card, after 21 days of repeated tries. They don't pad their prices even a little to handle customer service issues like missed flights. They also have a blanket policy preventing helping you reschedule a missed flight if their system says you "cancelled" your own flight online. This is a major problem because their website is broken on mobile devices, the only web browser you have at the airport when their gate staff tell you that you have to reschedule your own missed flight online because they can't help you. I tried to reschedule my flight on my android device and instead, their website crashed and "cancelled" my missed flight. When I got to the counter, the agent argued with me for 5 minutes insisting that I intentionally cancelled my own flight (implying I had to buy another flight). She missed the point: the problem was that I could not buy another flight because their website is broken. I left to avoid more conflict with the "customer service" agent. I tried to redress my issue with their only other "customer service" chanel available: the contact form on their website. The response I got was more of the same: you cancelled your own flight, according to our website / computer records, therefore we won't help you. I was trying to explain the problem with their broken website that cost me hundreds of dollars by crashing / malfunctioning and resulting in a cancelled flight, but they only had deaf ears for this problem. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I will never buy another Frontier flight again, because it is a risky, painful move that I will likely regret often.

I was 2 hr arrive in the airport and 45 min in the line . After take to my turn . The agent tell me I’m later . I can not board . So my vacation was going to the floor . Just for their bad customer service agent in the airline

2 hour delay due to late plane, wrong size plane causing overbooking, and people getting off and on the plane after boarding was completed.
