I think since we have to pay now for bags to be checked, I should have been compensated for NOT being able to take my bag onboard and for being forced to wait a very long time to retrieve it...exactly what I had hoped to avoid by carrying on.

Pros: My entire flight experience was delightful. Was dry impressed with the staff both at Hartsfield-Jackson and DFW...and our flight crew was positively sublime.
Cons: To be clear, I do not have an issue with overweight people. That being said, I was put in an extremely uncomforatable position on this flight. My seatmate was a woman who easily weighed 400 pounds without the slightest exageration and was 5'7 at best. She carried all of her weight in her midsection and behind, which was truly uncomforatable for us both. As she attempted to squeeze into the aisle seat it became apparent that with the armrest down it was not going to happen. She raised the armrest and finally maneuvered into her seat and part of mine also. Not only was her bottom in my seat but her stomach was resting on my entire right leg. It felt like a toddler was sitting on my lap. This was beyond uncomfortable and embarrassing for us both as it was clear that she knew how intrusive this was and kept apologizing. My leg went to sleep after about 15 minutes so I asked to be let out. I approached the flight attendent and requested that my seat be changed to which she responded that the flight was full. I know it wasn't because I could see an empty seat about four rows in front of me. Finally I sat back down but every 15 minutes or so she would get uncomforatable and get up to stretch. The first time it was a welcomed break, until she came back and flopped in her seat with so much force that it felt like someone had ran and jumped in my lap. This occurred 4 or 5 times during the flight. I am not sure what the policy is for obese passengers, but it should be relooked. As a passenger I should not be put in a position to address another passengers weight. I also should not have to pay for a seat and only get to use 2/3 of it. Lastly, no one should ever be allowed to put their body parts on top of another persons lap and that be considered ok.

Cons: The flight was crowded, no overhead bin space from passengers putting coats and jackets in the bin instead of under their seats. I was in the middle seat between two large men breathing down on me while they slept. It was a nightmare. On a flight that long the seats shouldn’t be that close in proximity nor should larger passengers be allowed to sit in seats too small for their body type. That’s not discrimination that’s logical.
Pros: I managed to slip ahead a couple of rows into what I guess was a slightly upgraded seating area. This resulted in my flight being very nice. But had I not been able to pull off this minor theft, I think it would have been miserable. Sitting up straight, without the seat ahead of me reclined, my knees touched the back fo the seat in front of me. It felt like I was sitting at a table in a kindergarten classroom, not a chair meant for an adult. In the upgraded seat I was very comfortable. Staff on board was friendly and helpful throughout the flight.
Cons: I haven't flown American Airlines in quite a while and one gets quite spoiled flying on Emirates or Qatar or Singapore or Norwegian or whatever other airlines. It's easy to forget how utterly mediocre AA is. The food isn't great, the air quality on the flight is terrible and leaves you feeling oily. They don't air-condition the plane until after everyone is boarded so the whole process is hot, sweaty, and unpleasant. Many of the staff are flat out rude to people (I was never on the receiving end, but I overheard what I considered very abrasive tones to others). And so on. Ideally I'd fly on other airlines I think.

Cons: There was a delay from Charlotte to Dallas but not too much so it was fine. Once we arrived in Dallas, however, it took an absorbent amount of time for the crew to open the door. On top of that, the skyline in Dallas was broken down and it caused me to miss my flight completely. I’m a student so I don’t have much money so I had to “sleep” in the airport because I couldn’t get a hotel voucher due to the fact that I missed my flight due to the airport and not the airline itself. My next flight is tomorrow morning but now takes away time from an incredibly busy and tight schedule that I was on. Not happy at all with the Dallas airport.

My bag fit the meassurements and still was forced to check it (which I did not want to do as I did not want to be waiting an hour for my bag at my arrival as I had work early the next day. Cons: The flight was originally scheduled to take off at 8:20 pm, but due to several delays did not end up getting off the ground until after 11 pm. After being in the air for about 45 minutes we were informed that there were issues with the engine and that we would be turning around and heading back to Dallas. By this point it was after midnight, and although I was appreciative that safely is a priority, there was no communication as to what the next steps were. After landing we were finally told that we would have to deplane, and after we sat around the gate for awhile we were informed that the flight would be delayed until 5 am. Being 12:50 am at this point a hotel would have been nice, but we were informed that AA was "out of hotels" but that if we wanted we could have a $12 food voucher to use at the one restaurant that was open several terminals over. The AA employee assisting in handing out the food vouchers seemed extremely unapologetic about the situation which didn't help with the frustration everyone was feeling. I will not be booking with AA again, and will be passing along my negative experience to family and friends. It is worth spending the extra money on a ticket for an airline that is more reliable with better customer service.

Cons: Had trouble with the highly advertised entertainment. On the trip from Rapid to Chicago, the entertainment wouldn't work. I was fairly comfortable in my aisle seat, but think it I had to be in a center of window seat, I would have been very uncomfortable.

Cons: The only flight leaving Eugene that would get me to Dallas in time for an urgent meeting left at 5:25 am. The crew identified something in inspection that gave them a little concern, so they called maintenance to come and check it out to ensure we were safe to fly (which I very much appreciate). The issue I have is that over an hour passed (after the flight was supposed to leave), with them giving periodic updates that they had called maintenance and were waiting for them. Finally I asked the people at the counter, who were visibly embarrassed, where maintenance was coming from (this is an airport - shouldn't they have it onsite), and they conceded that maintenance was at the airport, but they had no idea where they were. This delay resulted in me missing my connection in Denver, which caused me to miss the meeting and the whole reason I was flying back to Dallas a day early for. I essentially paid over $400 for an extra ticket (I had to not use my one on Friday - because it was just cheaper to buy a separate one way ticket). I will never fly United again.
