Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "The overall timeliness- although we were delayed boarding. We arrived on time."
Cons: "At least an offer of a free beverage? Water at a minimum."
Pros: "Have flown Peach before so knew what to expect. That made seat assignments and baggage handling painless. If you have not flown them before, their 7 kg cabin baggage limit is enforced in Osaka. Be forwarned and be prepared to pay extra baggage fees."
Cons: "We were unable to board the plane as they would not permit us to check in. I've reached out to request a refund but have not yet heard back."
Cons: "The staff is very arrogant and only looks for ways to make money rather than providing information and helping. NO COURTESY AT ALL. They made me miss my flight and managed to blame it on me despite my being there 1:30 ahead. I’ll never recommend them."
Pros: "We loved the price, timeliness, communication and friendly service"
Cons: "The terminal at OKA, it was confusing to find and to get to."
Pros: "Service was fine considering it was an LCC carrier. Aircraft was new and was in perfect order. No significant delays."
Cons: "No beverage service was offered even if we would have had to pay for anything. No other issues."
Pros: "Great crew"
Cons: "No entertainment."
Cons: "You have to pay for everything"
Pros: "Low fare punctuality. Much cheaper alternative than any other mode of transportations in Japan. No frill is expected. 10kg of free carry on should be enough for most savvy travelers."
Cons: "The back of seat was soft and the person behind me kept pushing/kicking without realizing I could feel it."
Cons: "Usually flying peach means saving big money. My trip really only saved me around 15%, had I known I'd be flying out of the cargo terminal on both sides and have to endure multiple packed bus trip on top of the most uncomfortable airplane seating I've ever had I would surely have paid the extra and will do so in the future."
Cons: "Seats to small and they didn't check ID to ticket"
Pros: "Professional and attractive flight attendants. Clean cabin."
Cons: ""We'd like to buy the noodles." "Sorry, we're sold out of that." "We'd like to buy some grape soda." "Sorry, we're sold out of that." "I'd like to buy a model airplane." "Sorry, we're sold out of that." This was on the way to Hong Kong, where they may load up on some of the catering items, but not on the duty free. Strange for an LCC to be so low on inventory, which is a huge part of their revenues. My other gripe is that the only source of water in the holding area at Okinawa's LCC terminal was, like the flight afterward turned out to be: sold out. Oh, and they split the two of us up upon checking in (two hours prior to the flight) by seating us on opposite sides of the plane. I can't believe the entire rest of the plane paid for confirmed seats and left only single seats. Like AirAsia, Peach has Navitaire's reservation system, and apparently, like AirAsia, Peach intentionally splits groups up in the hopes that they will pay to sit together. If this is the case, it is wrong. I agree with LCCs' notion that baggage is a service, for example (at least seven people handle a bag on a nonstop flight), or selling food rather than giving it away. But it is really low to intentionally cause discomfort and then charge to relieve it."
Pros: "The price is good and they offer some of the best prices around Japan and East Asia. As far as LCC's go they aren't the worst. If you're motivated only by price, then Peach is fine."
Cons: "The service of Peach is pretty much non-existent. Their staff seem to be very poorly trained, they are no proficient in English, they do no communicate well and seem to only be interested in getting you crammed into the plane (and out of it) as fast as possible. Their flights are often delayed, you can safely assume you will leave at least 30 minutes past the scheduled departure time. On the plane you will get nothing but a seat so don't expect anything else."
Cons: "There wasn’t a lot of room at the gate, but that’s not really a complaint. Everything was very smooth and efficient."
Cons: "Their representative was uncooperative."
Pros: "This was possibly my worst flying experience. I’ll definitely never book Jetstar again in the next 5 years. I tried to talk to their customer service about the experience and they blew me off. I’m not a complainer, but I was very upset by the way it was handled. Maybe after they get their act together it will be artist worthy company. But for now- no."
Cons: "I stood in line 3 hours, then was told my flight was cancelled. I was told they could not help me at the gate, so I should call the customer service line. That line told me the gate could help me. When I asked for a refund of my taxi fare to the hotel a few days later, they told me I should have talked to customer service the day of the flight to rebook. I had asked to rebook- but was told it was impossible. So ultimately they took my money and gave me crappy service. No thank you!!!"
Cons: "The flight sat for 30 minutes on the runway before arriving at the gate because of another aircraft"
Cons: "the charges for baggage and very cumbersome check in process."
Pros: "I did not purchase a meal and I am unaware of any entertainment. Overall I was happy with the price, and the staff. Everyone seemed to be able to speak both Japanese and English so made it much easier for me. Flight was on time and bags came quickly. Great service for a very economical price."
Cons: "The captain voice is really low and is hard to hear he talking."
Pros: "New plane"
Cons: "No wifi. Seat space was small. Flight attendant didn't allow me to hold my small purse in my lap!"
Pros: "I didnt like anything about that flight worst ever"
Cons: "Bag fees are terrible even the terminal overall experience is worst. I will not plan to go for jetstar ever anymore"
Cons: "Purchased early baggage check allowance, but VERY limited carry-on baggage allowance resulted in 2 of us paying over 13,000 yen to check carry-ons. Negated any savings from booking a budget airline. Plane seats were horrendous for posture - shape encourages slouching and absolutely no lumbar support. Very uncomfortable."
Pros: "The fight attendants service was impeccable."
Cons: "We paid for every piece of luggage to include handbags and carry-on the total cost of the handbags carry-ons came up to well over $140"
Pros: "The customer service"
Cons: "The overpriced for luggage and re weighing of the carry on and only 7kg if it's over you get charged for it"
Cons: "The check in was bad. We travelled with a toddler and went 2 hours and 45ish min before boarding to check in. The screen indicated that we can check in and after we had lined up with all our suitcases, stroller, crying toddler, they would come and told us that if we are checking in suitcases we can't check in yet. We were turned from the queue 2 times. It was very frustrating and inconvenient, especially since there wasn't a place to sit much. I raised a question as to why the screens are saying it is OK to check in. We were told that was only for people who did not have luggage to check in! Then the airline has more rules than I had experienced. "You can do this, you have to do that..." We felt bossed around the whole time and not comfortable. It became really annoying. The overall attitude is, "Be grateful we are allowing you to fly with us.", not "Thank you for giving us your business". This is my third experience with Jet Star and I have been disappointed every time. I am not flying with them ever again unless I have absolutely no other choice."
Pros: "Crew members were very helpful and friendly throughout"
Cons: "As our suitcase got detected as containing prohibited items inside (turned out to be camera battery), we were stopped at the boarding gate only to be given the explanation that because the security people were somehow unable to open up our suitcase (with the passcode lock already unlocked), at least one of us had to stay behind. Also since the only other plane that day had only one seat left, and that we had to pay for a new ticket for a flight the day after, I had to be separated with my partner and painfully wait for him for the entire afternoon and evening on the other side (what's more, the membership lounges at the destination airport only let in people with departing flight tickets). In short, we couldn't accept the fact that the airport people merely couldn't get the suitcase open, which caused all the inconvenience afterwards."
Pros: "Great value for the price. A very efficient no-frills airline. Very clean and orderly."
Cons: "Since this is a no-frills airline, nothing is free. If you plan to check a bag, sign-up for baggage weight as soon as you make your reservation. Waiting until you check-in to pay for baggage will cost more and can potentially delay your check-in process. JetStar weighs every bag including those you plan to carry-on. They limit carry-on weight to 9 Kg."
Pros: "It was efficient, clean, and serviceable flight. No problems."
Cons: "I had an unexpected delay, not the airline fault, nor my own. The airline was very helpful with information telling me i would have to pay more than original flight booking cost to change the day to accommodate the unexpected delay. Seriously...what was the big deal? On tick on a computer screen and print a new ticket? $100 ? In the end it doesn't matter, I just take my business to another airline, but regulations like this..."
Cons: "Everything. They were soooo untrained"
Cons: "The seats are pretty terrible"
Pros: "The stewardess attempted to explain things in English due to the large amount of foreigners siting near the emergency exits."
Cons: "The baggage fees were inconsistent and at a ridiculous price. I don't think I will be suggesting Jetstar to any of my friends unless they don't mind spending a ridiculous amount of money for a small baggage."
Pros: "On-line check-in made getting through security and luggage drop off fast."
Cons: "The counter and the gate were about 30 minutes apart by foot."
Pros: "Nothing... A budget airlines, that is not so budget friendly. I even ended up spending on a total price of those big airlines..."
Cons: "During check-in.... Very misleading. I don't know if it's really their SOP to check the passengers other intenariies that is purchased separately... Thou Im a US passport holder, who travelled to Japan for leisure and going back to Manila relatives. Now, why is she asking for my itinerary for US?... I did not bring the print out with. Then what if I don't have a smart phone and no wi-fi connection, just to show her my email for my itinerary going back to US, they will not allow me to board?... Geez... I don't get the logic, here. It's just causing a delay."
Cons: "Staff were inattentive and stressed out because the airline lacks organization."
Pros: "Crew on board is always sweet, kind, professional, and accommodating."
Cons: "At our take off point, at Naha (NAA) in Okinawa, both my parents and my family checked our luggage at the check-in desks. We paid for our gear to fly but were also informed to keep our receipts for our trip back to Oki from Tokyo so we wouldn't have to pay for our luggage to fly again. The cost for our luggage was for both trips (almost $70 USD, there and back it seemed. Seems that was a lie or misinformation because we still had to pay for our luggage on the trip back from Tokyo to Okinawa. AND the cost of our luggage to fly to Tokyo was more than on the way back which makes no sense when factoring in that we brought gifts home! I will be taking further action with Jet Star."
Pros: "The flight"
Cons: "Terminal three was poor."
Pros: "Very clean, nice staff."
Cons: "The person behind me had long legs so his knees were in my back for the trip. He couldn't help it though."
Pros: "The flight was cheap and everything ran smoothly. They charge for checked luggage but it was only $25 USD so perfectly fine."
Cons: "I got charged a $10 travel agency fee for which I was never billed and I never approved. They could not recognize it in their system as it showed as a travel agency fee so they couldn't refund it, so I had to contest through my credit card."
Cons: "The extra $60 for a carry on"
Pros: "Flight attendants were good at keeping the cabin tidy."
Cons: "Not impressed with JetStar. It's a far cry from the service you get on JAL. Due to overly strict baggage weight limit checks at the check-in counter, the queue for check-in was excessively long. While the queue was only for the passengers heading to the same destination of the flight, the delay of boarding caused by weighing all the bags for each customer, and then forcing people to abandon personal property to shed weight, repack and reweigh bags, meant the departure of the aircraft was delayed. No one missed the flight, but it was delayed. Also no one got to have any leisure time in the airport terminal as nearly every customer was struggling to abandon excess baggage weight, then had to scramble through security to get to the gate.Dumping weight created a lot of waste of perfectly good things people were prevented from taking on the flight, and had no chance to send by post. It also generated a lot of extra baggage fees for the airline purporting to operate a budget airline option for customers. If you go over the weight limit you are hit with high over baggage fees, voila, profit for them and lower fares for some. On board: There is very limited overhead cabin storage, no pocket in front of you for storage and zero in-flight entertainment offered. Seat backs are so thin, that you can feel anyone behind you should their knees press on your seat back. Beverage service was sporadic. It was started, stopped, then rows of customers got skipped, and any food that was pre-ordered was delivered as soon as the plane was airborne but drinks were not ready at the time of the meal service. Very scattered service overall. Announcements were poor and not clear or loud enough. Japanese announcements were fully detailed while Mandarin were not precise, and English were very limited or didn't happen at all. Not good on an international flight with many different language needs."
Pros: "On time. Safe flight"
Cons: "No food, drinks or entertainment."
Cons: "Too strict on carry on items. Had to spend a lot of extra money for baggage which negated any savings on ticket price. Especially without even offering any complimentary beverages"
Pros: "They did their job."
Cons: "They would not let me board the flight. I was a few minutes too late."
Pros: "They were very helpful rebooking me on flight.. six hours alter"
Cons: "Right when check in started they cancelled the flight and i got rebooked on a flight 6 hours alter. they would not pay the measly $15 hour it cost to rest at the airport hotel. I had early morning flight so I had to leave my nice hotel and and ended up waiting and resting on crappy airport bench for hours."
Cons: "After traveling through Asia for over three weeks, we decided to stop make one last stop in Kyoto. Four days before departure they made a 7kg carry on baggage rule, this includes both bags! And did not inform us. We had backpacks for convince and had not had a problem with any of the 12 flights we had previously been on. They made us pay for checked baggage, it came out late and we missed our connection home. They did nothing for us! Not to mention the flight attendant smelled horrifically of body odor and ran over my partners foot with the drink cart. Do not fly this airline if we wish for a smooth experience."
Pros: "There was on-line web check-in and we accomplished that. We were expecting that there will be a shorter line at the check-in counters at the airport. Our 750ml bottle of sake which was intercepted at the Departure gate security check, was accommodated easily by the flight check-in attendant, and wrapped in carton with Fragile label. Thanks for that fast process."
Cons: "There was no special web check-in counter at the airport, so there was only a single long line of passengers checking-in, unlike other airlines. The flight boarding was delayed as well as the passenger bus transfer from lounge to plane, so the scheduled flight departure of 7:40pm instead took-off almost 8:30 pm already. Flight attendants should have offered blankets for passengers' option to make use of during the flight."
Pros: "Quick and easy check in process."
Cons: "Didn't offer any complimentary food or water and no entertainment available."
Pros: "Crew was friendly, and helpful at the check in counter."
Cons: "That they don't give passengers one free checked bag."
Cons: "Stewardess and staff were uncaring and rude for someone who was handicapped needing wheel chair due to injury the night before flight...and flight could not be cancelled even within 13 hours notice..as other Airlines provide for a minimal fee. Ck In unorganized and long wait."
Pros: "Cheap and not bad flying times for my needs"
Cons: "Small space."
Pros: "Overall experience was excellent. Ground crew especially helpful and friendly. Fare was less than expected."
Cons: "It was sooo crowded trying to check in. I was in line 1.5hrs before my flight and it took almost that long. I told them my flight was in 35 min but they didn't bump me ahead of others and I still had to wait in security and the flight was delayed at least 30-40min. I was anxious the whole time because I have never been late or missed a flight and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I also don't like that you can only have 7kg total!! That's outrageous, people are FLYING, they are going to need more than a tiny bag, especially during winter. The baggage is a ripoff. I don't think I will use a cheap airline again"
Pros: "The staff was very nice"
Cons: "The amount of space between the seats was not enough. I felt crampt."
Cons: "Seats are small with even less leg room than all other airlines we have ever flown. You pay for everything - if you want more than a carry on, if you want to pick your seat, etc. Water isn't even free on the flight ! Then they cancel our flight on a Wednesday night (due to weather even though other airlines were getting their flights out) and tell us that they can't rebook us until Friday. They wouldn't rebook us on another airline that could get us out sooner and on top of that refused to pay for hotel expenses or food . Worst experience flying ever; will never fly with them again."
Pros: "It was the cheapest flight for the dates and times I looked at."
Cons: "Delays The check-in staff caused unnecessary trouble about my visa (they seemed inexperienced and overly cautious). Confiscated water, but then no drinking water in waiting area Bused out to plane in the winter The biggest problem? I booked the flight as one itinerary through one site. They used two budget carriers: Vanilla Air and Jetstar. The luggage requirements for the two flights varied, so that when I came to check in to my return flight, I had to pay extra luggage fees. In what world is it okay to have a smaller luggage allowance on the return flight than the to flight? For that matter, Jetstar's luggage restrictions are so low as to almost be a joke. It seems only a matter of time before we get charged for wearing a jacket. The many extra hassles of budget airlines have made me reconsider whether or not it's really worth it to save $100. If one thing goes wrong (delays make you miss a connecting flight, or make your miss transportation) your savings disappear and then you're just flying in discomfort for no good reason."
Pros: "overall, a good flight where it counted."
Cons: "the walk to terminal 3 at narita is very long, so be prepared."
Pros: "We had transportation problems and arrived late. The crew at the desk were amazing. They were so friendly and understanding of our specific challenges. Not only were we late but the online system wouldnt recognize our credit cards for online prepayment of bags. So they helped with that too. Then they rushed us through some lines. Soo helpful when everything was not working for us."
Cons: "Online check in fail."
Pros: "Cheap, direct flight from location to location. New, very clean plane. Polite staff. Heroic effort by one member of the staff to personally escort us on a sprint through security and to the plane door, after an alarmingly slow payment process for checked baggage."
Cons: "Massive checked baggage fees for ski gear, unseen on any other airline I've flown. Oversize was not waived for sports equipment. Expect to pay an additional USD $150 for a 190cm, 24kg ski bag. Everything beyond the base flight was subject to additional fees (including beverages). Arrive crazy early, even for domestic flights... 2 hours at least. An insanely slow checked baggage payment process (including HANDWRITTEN receipts) resulted in a sprint through the airport and nearly caused us to miss our flight."
Pros: "Had my boarding pass on my cell phone. Didn't have to go to the check in counter at all. Very easy."
Cons: "The food on the flight is far to expensive for what you are getting."
Pros: "Staff was polite."
Cons: "Not enough staff to check people in."
Pros: "Very expensive baggage fees."
