Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Crew were helpful and pleasant and it was nice to get a drink of water, a cookie and the offer of a cup of tea or coffee"
Pros: "Great crew and counter staffing. Only took about 10 minutes to get my ticket and half of that was due to some snag with the NZ visa details."
Pros: "Business class lay-flat seats and a private cubby."
Cons: "Boarding required a bus ride to a distant terminal rather than direct boarding from the terminal."
Cons: "Asked for an isle seat; was stuck in the middle. Way to long of a flight for that"
Pros: "Crew were very helpful"
Cons: "First time travelling with the airline and wasn't aware of having to book things like food and entertainment. These things come standard with all other airlines I have flow with so was very surprised when finding out about it mid flight. Can't say I was very pleased but must say crew were very good"
Cons: "The boarding was inconvenient. LAX has just been updated. Gerri g a bus out to the tarmac is something I expect in Africa. Can Air NZ move to a different terminal?"
Cons: "Preferred seats in economy class are very uncomfortable if your row is full. Long, miserable flight."
Pros: "Crew was really nice however slightly absent during the flight."
Cons: "Drinks should have been more frequently offered . Refreshments/water seemed hard to come by I had to chase them down in the galley only to get luke warm water...? Seats are pretty cramped and small with not much room."
Pros: "Good entertainment. Flight tracker kept breaking."
Cons: "They don't come around with beverages hardly ever (twice on 13 hour flight) and they tend to skip the window seats. They tried to kick me off an overbooked flight even though I paid extra for a picked seat and booked months ago. Mediocre food. Tiny seats and I'm only 5'5". Will never fly again."
Pros: "Very friendly ground service staff member, lovely to be transferred to an earlier flight and my seating request was granted, flight service was also excellent."
Pros: "Generally Excellent."
Cons: "After years of traveling with a Personal Assitive device (many times on ANZ), the pilot refused to carry the device. It is still stuck in Sydney, although they say they will deliver to our home."
Cons: "After scanning boarding passes at gate, flight crew required us to show them again at the plane door. We had already stowed our phones, as I think others had. Minor issue but caused what seemed like an unnecessary backup at the cabin door. Our other domestic Air New Zealand flight didn't require it."
Pros: "Great pitch"
Cons: "All good: 777:300"
Pros: "The staff was very helpful"
Cons: "None"
Pros: "flight crew are good, other general categories are average."
Cons: "Boarding in both Sydney-Auckland & Auckland-Vancouver are disorganized. No clear indication of when & where to line up. No flight delay message to explain when boarding time was long overdue. In particular, for the Auckland - Vancouver flight, one ground staff was telling economy passengers (in rather rude express) they were in the wrong line except there was never announcement. Overall, disappointed."
Pros: "Everything; crew, seats, food, The best flight ever. Thanks a lot."
Cons: "N / A"
Pros: "Good food"
Cons: "Why so cold in the cabin!"
Pros: "The option to gate check strollers for easy access with a toddler"
Cons: "The stroller wasn't delivered to the gate by Air New Zealand"
Pros: "Have flown most carriers to Australia and NZ. Air NZ by far the best. I mean, I am flying cattle class, so its never going to be great. However, compared to the other carriers available, the seats are the most comfortable and have more legroom. If you can afford their sky couch, do so. Food is edible (and, to me, most airlines are not) and was nice to get WiFI all the way across for just a few air points."
Cons: "Would be nice if the seats had a foot rest, but this particular 777 did not. I have short legs."
Pros: "Solid friendly n professional flight crew."
Cons: "When checking in we asked about an exit row seat. The NZ official claimed the flight was full n nothing available. Once on the 2/3 full plane, 9 of the 12 exit row seats were empty. Bottom line was she was lazy and unprofessional in simply Lieing."
Pros: "The entire crew was excellent in all areas and all the time even on a 14 hour flight that had been delayed for about 20 hours."
Cons: "When we arrived in Auckland very late, Air New Zealand out me up in a third rate hotel in a very bad part of the city with little to no communication on how to get back to the airport the next day. The customer service number I was given, was mo help at all. Flights were great, but the way they handled the unexpected was very poorly done."
Pros: "Great customer service. We flew on Air New Zealand and United, and the contrast was big. ANZ stewards showed much higher level of pride in serving their passengers."
Pros: "Cabin crew was fantastic! Inflight experience was woderful."
Cons: "Airport personnel were very unhelpful. When I asked them a question, they told me to come back later. I came back at the time they said to and they told me they don’t have time for me. I need to come back another time. I went to another gate agent and she told be to go downstairs to the check in counter for help. That would have taken 2 hours. I called customer service and they answered my question quickly. I just wanted to know if I would be charged a fee to change my flight."
Pros: "The crew were delightful. Nice cup of tea and a magnificent day for flying."
Cons: "Charged us for baggage, even though the flight was international and clearly stated on their website international flights included baggage. Had to pay more than we paid for our flights just to check a bag."
Pros: "Friendly team on board"
Cons: "Nothing"
Pros: "Excellent gluten free meal offered! I appreciate the extra effort with providing a gf bun and muffin with most meals!"
Pros: "Good flight. Good crew. An overall good experience"
Pros: "Crew was very nice. Allowed us to change seats within our section for more comfort. Good food. Loves the USB outlet at our seats."
Pros: "The flight departed on time, arrived on time - run of the mill stuff for Air NZ. Crew very good as per normal"
Cons: "I swear the seats are getting more and more 'scrunchy'. There are more appropriate places to get almost intimate with your seat buddy."
Pros: "good entertainment"
Cons: "we purchased a sky couch for an extra $700 and was not put in a skycouch row. I have contacted Air New Zealand and have yet to hear back from them."
Pros: "Food service"
Pros: "Good thing, we got there."
Cons: "The flight attendants did nothing and told us we had to buy water. Really?? We were over charged for our baggage by a long shot. You sell cheap flights but by the time you pay for bags it is no longer a deal."
Pros: "Awesome customer service, I was impressed."
Pros: "Entertainment options"
Cons: "The fact that our booking through Kayak did not record we had booked luggage. We KNOW we had booked luggage. Air NZ wanted to charge us $160 each bag. Eventually BYOJet got us through to Virgin who allowed us to buy luggage for $25 per bag. Thank you Virgin for your wonderful assistance 1 1/2 hours before departure. Virgin's standard ticket has 23kg luggage included. What is the problem with a ticket bought online through agents such as BYOJet and Kayak?"
Pros: "Appearance of plane"
Cons: "Attitude of attendant. Worst landing of 4 flights going from USA to auckland"
Pros: "Boarding and service were attentive, entertainment excellent"
Cons: "The seat space is little cramped even for a relatively slim 5'11". Food taste was below airline average."
Pros: "everything"
Cons: "nothing"
Pros: "The staff were very kind. The amendies (pillow, blanket and headphones) were great. The airplane food and wine selection were nice."
Cons: "They were great"
Pros: "Service was great, kids were comfortable entertained and I loved the movie selection."
Cons: "Food wasn't good but that is low priority for me"
Pros: "The business class on Air New Zealand is the space and comfort level all airlines should have in all classes of seating. I could comfortably fly to Europe from California in business class on this airline."
Pros: "Everything"
Cons: "Nothing"
Pros: "Excellent service, seats, big screen, etc ✅"
Cons: "Food was okay."
Pros: "Plenty of movies. Tight legroom and harder to get into seats with pillows, headsets and blankets on seats and the plastic bags make them slip everywhere.. Maybe pass them out after everyone had boarded."
Cons: "See above. Plus it was a rough turbulent flight."
Pros: "Air New Zealand staff are very friendly and helpful."
Cons: "The seats are the most uncomfortable and tight I have ever experienced on an international flight, and we were in exit row seats. For a 15 hour flight, it was miserable."
Pros: "Friendly staff Smooth boarding process Great entertainment system"
Cons: "temperature regulation on the plane was quite poor. Parts of the cabin were very warm and others were very cold and flight attendants had difficulty regulating the temperature. food was also quite bland."
Pros: "For such a long flight the food is not good! The only snacks are a tiny tiny bag of corn chips or a cookie. The attendants were average. The comfort of coach was bad. Other airlines will give you great snacks, tooth brush, night mask, etc but not Air New Zealand they are almost like a budget airline. Not sure how they are rated the best airline."
Pros: "Comfort, cleanless, crew availaibility."
