The quality of the room The reception. One the two occasions l visited (one on arrival), only one person was on the desk and on the phone for a good 5-10 minutes whislst l was waiting to be seen to. What if there was to be more than just l waiting?
we had a very comfortable overnight stay at the hotel with an excellent breakfast, served by very efficient and polite staff. The arrival at reception was of the same quality. We will use the hotel again when visiting family who live in Chineham.
Consistent service, comfortable rooms and good variety of food None
Use of the leisure club is a real bonus No - its a good, comfortable business hotel
Comfortable bed. Very helpful and friendly staff
the breakfasts, the pool facilities although jazussi out of action when we were there
Pool, gym & tennis courts Restaurant was closed without prior warning. No refrigerator in room Bed sheets were rough enough to cause skin reddening. Small beds
On the maps.google.com is reported wrong position of the hotel. On hotel web page is it ok, of course.
We were there for my daughters wedding which went off without a hitch thanks to the organisation of the hotel staff. The rooms, breakfast, leisure facilities added to make it a great time.
Pool area Extortionate drinks prices.!
Excellent room. Modern decor. Spotlessly clean. Free wifi. Quiet country location. Paperthin walls meant I could hear everything from the room next door. Not nice when the occupant threw up.
Hotel was in a very good location for where I needed to be for business. The food is very good and the scenary is fantastic. With the hotel having some accomodation away from the main block (150m) and no cover, you need to make sure you have an umbrella with you. The Hotel didnt supply enough to the 41 rooms in the stable block where I was staying and I only found that out when I arrived there and it was pouring down.
High quality hotel at very reasonable rates. Good meal in restaurant. Signage from car park made finding reception difficult.
noise from next door at 230 am told night staff and he had a word
comfort of the bed no shelf in bathroom - bed right up against the wall - no hair drier - window outlook 'none', sorry outlook was the roof only.
Location The facilities available (gym etc) were at a different hotel which wasnt convenient, also No shower in the room only bath with shower head attachment.
Friendly hotel, modern decor, very comfortable room. Relaxed atmosphere. Easy to find. Lack of information supplied at check in E.g directions to rooms, bar etc. Many rooms are not in the main building - not advised at time of booking.
comfortable, pleasant surroundings, friendly staff and good value for money food nothing
Beautiful historical environment. Well renovatie facility. Extra charge for credit card payment.
My colleague Julie Warren stayed at Highfield Park - it is now her hotel of choice when she is here on business.
The breakast room has views of the pond. That was very special. For the price the faciities were poor
Smell of smoke in non smoking room, room above unloading point for service vehicles, barrels delivered at 0730. Food poor in presentation and choice, same limited menu each night
Views from dining room. Quiet, peaceful location. Disappointed with quality of cooked breakfast.
Location, The choice to upgrade to a quiet room The decor too modern and lacking in charm, small swimming pool
Going for walks around the lakes. The quality of the food for dinner was excellent, but spoiled by having to eat alone in a side room behind reception. That we were unaware till arrival that the hotel had large weddings for both of the evenings we had booked.
rooom very comfortable, and the food very good. Forgot to bring swimming costume, would have liked to use the pool, looked lovely.
staff help for routes to cain manor wedding and early book-in help
The beds and the waitress was very helpful I have complained already: the cold showers, the meals, the lack of english speaking staff
the location and the peacefullness of the place we never had hot water which was so dissappointing
Lovely room and a good hearty breakfast in the morning. This was our second return to the hotel.
An excellent hotel offering refurbished high standard rooms with contemporary furniture set in a pub atmosphere & serving very good food.
Excellent cleaning staff, little extras like bottled water, fudge and shortbread made it special. The breakfast was very good. The glass door on the shower made the area too small and was impossible to shower without water getting on floor. Had to stand right up to the taps to get wet without wrecking the place. The bath side was high and a handrail would have helped to get you out as the bath was slippery.
This was my second visit to this hotel and the level of service is excellent. I commented on a problem I had during my stay and within a couple of hours of leaving I had a phone call to check my e-mail address and an e-mailed appology followed, I get the impression that they take customer satisfaction here very seriously. I will be staying here again.
Everything, attentive staff who really did make our stay a pleasure, in fact we wished that we could have stayed longer, but alas family obligations prevented this, However, we will rerturn again in the spring and this time for more than just one night, There was nothing to dislike.
We found the Hampshire Hog on the booking website very last min, we found the hotel with out any problems. Check in was very smooth, though to be fair the hotel didn't look like much from the outside. The room was a lovely surprise, nice tiles, clean bathroom, an excellent refreshment selection including real coffee, fresh milk and vanilla fudge. The Room was a good size with a good size television, all dark wood furniture with a king size bed and real bedding. Restaurant is in the same building and was really nice good food and not noisy at all, had a real country pub feel to it. Breakfast was very good excellent choice of cooked breakfasts n a wide variety of alternatives, fresh fruit, yogurt cereal n smoothies, overall very good indeed. The only slight bug bear was no room service.
Loved every minute of our stay; from the staff to the food to the room, it was all fantastic. Excellent value for money. Would definitely stay again. Nothing
Beautiful, clean, well furnished rooms. Staff very polite andvery helpful. N/A
Very nice stay again Didnt get a bath in this room...so when you book check with them first.
Attentive staff. Room ok. Lots of drawer space. Cafetiere provided; regret not used due to lack of time. Staff too eager to finish breakfast at 9.30, which for a Saturday, was too early. Parsimoneous with the coffee due to unwillingness to start another pot.
We had a good room for the price payed, but in addition to the accommodation guests were allowed free access to the spa which meant we had terrific value for our money. Guests are also offered the option of checking out late to enable over-night visitors the chance to use the facilities. I was a little disappointed in the cooked section of the breakfast , but other snacks and afternoon tea purchased at the hotel were excellent.
Dinner in the Restaurent I'm afraid that the Cooked Breakfasts tended to be on the cold side. It was very cold outside but some windows were opened never the less. The bathroom shelf was for some reason erected over the Lavatory Basin. To prevent Toothbrushes etc. from falling into the Loo we had to use the Window shelf for our things. Also the shaving light was to one side of my face leaving me to shave partially in the dark. Overall though we liked the Room.
all good very expensive resturant
Location Room very basic. Room facilities not as listed so had to ask and some still not available ie trouser press. Leisure facilities extremely expensive.
A beautiful hotel in really lovely surroundings. The spa is fantastic and the breakfast was delicious. Surprisingly one of the pillows in the room was dirty and the rubbish bin in the bathroom had not been emptied. However the good points more than made up for this and I had a wonderful stay.
Relaxed yet special
* Beautiful setting and surroundings * We had a very good room * The was also excellent * We only had breakfast but it was also very good
This is an easy going, smart hotel set amidst beautiful English countryside. The gym and spa facilities are state of the art. Highly recommended.
Staff were excellent. Small room, high bar prices, cold water in the morning.
The fact that its in the countryside and its tranquil. no
Cleanliness, friendly and helpful staff We were in a quad room and the fourth bed was a made up mattress on the floor which we found unsatisfactory.
The staff were excellent, both polite and efficient. The pre booked room was located immediately and the access given with minimum of waiting time. Having seen adverts fr a room at £29 it was a shame that my single room was over £60 possibly due to lack of detail on the booking web site.
The hotel receptionist on checking out was so cheerful and kind helping us with directions to where we were meeting up with friends.; She could not have been more cheerful.
Very warm welcome. Service excellent.
The hotel it self was quite good, clean and the staff good. Tv was a waste of time frozen picture on every channel. The food in the Brewers Fayre the first night was a disgrace. The Cheesy Cobbler I had was very poor hard as a rock bun and no cheese. My wifes Scampi were very poor almost burnt.
Staff very helpful hotel and room clean
The comfort of the beds
Clean room even extra pillows provided. all staff pleasant and helpful. breakfast excellent.
The adjoining pub/restaurant served a great breakfast and evening meals were good. Service was excellent ! Some road noise and door banging late at night. Double bed was comfy but the single beds were not.
Room clean, plenty of hot water and tea making facilities. Room very noisy from traffic outside, couldn't open a window when the room because of the traffic noise. Should be a choice of duvet or blankets because some people don't like duvets.
It was acceptably clean and the room was a nice size for a family room. Yes, they had closed the restaurant for refurbishment, and pne of the main reasons we booked this particular hotel was because it had a restaurant next door where we could have dinner and breakfast as we were arriving late and leaving early.
very slow service in restaurant & booking in
Friendly welcome and comfortable room.
The Hotel was ok, room was nice and big. There was a large tear in the Curtains, a minor point but you did ask!!!!
Could not get drink after 11pm as being residents we thought that this would have been avaible. Disappointed at the bar service as we were in a private room for about 50 guest and the bar in the room was not in operation
Expected better from Holiday Inn,room smelling of damp and were dull. After 20min at reception, they did change my room but only had (so called junior suite ! extra £30 ) slightly larger room with 1970's sofa and tv. Not really much better, toilet was loose with cracked tiles in bathroom!. Hotels public areas were revamped, looks very nice and modern, only if rooms were half as nice !!!! but rooms are in poor state.I Was booked for 3 nights, But checked out on the sat morning.Paid little more 500yds down road 4star hotel ,looking over airport amazing hotel very modern with free mini bar with tv in bathroom and Bose music. So if you going to Holiday Inn (Don't). I am not a snob but expect clean bright modern room not something from the 70s 80s Very poor Hotel with facelift.
Very helpful staff
The room was comfortable and spacious and the staff were very polite and helpful and made us feel welcome at all times
friendly good service drinks very very expensive
The attitude of the staff always eager to please. the fitness suite nothing
Very nice room, not like in another english hotels.Very good bathroom. The breakfast was really good. The reception and the main building of the hotel looks very expensive The room was a little bit too small. The long way to the room wasnt nice.
Very friendly and helpfull staff
Overall good No elevator, would be an advantage to be able to indicate preference for a ground floor room
The best part of my stay was my massage wirh Sue. She is excellent. I was disapointed that the Steam Room & Sauna were not working.
The evening meal menu was exactly the same each evening an occasional change would of been welcome.
Friendly reception, good location. very warm inside the rooms
Breakfast the room, booked for a family of four and there were only three beds
The Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The room was clean and tidy and more than adequate for an overnight stay. Plenty of coffee sachets in room but only 1 milk.
A bit dowdy, needs a revamp of furnishings
I had a good feeling from the minute I entered the hotel. The staff were all polite and attentive and without attitude. The restaurant had a cosy ambience and the waiter was polite and attentive without being intrusive. The room was clean and comfortable. A minor point really, I found that turning on the taps for a shower awkward due to an immovable screen.
Room comfortable; clean; quiet; good facilities; Shower worked well; Good cooked breakfast Room gloomy, lighting poor; Bathroom floor tiles cracked and bathroom window would not open for ventilation; Toast and cooked breakfast all on one plate, no butter or margarine for the toast, Only one small cup of coffee served with breakfast
Convient location with helpful staff
the hotel staff and facilites were excellent
the price - too expensive for the quality...little rooms , no clim, TV remote control not working, no minibar, poor breakfast
Staff were very welcoming, friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. They all worked well together and are a credit to you. Room was comfortable if small, and breakfast was good. Didn't have time to use pool Window a bit drafty, so we could hear road noise
This is a great little hotel for business and the lounge area demonstrated that. Business men everyhwere. The staff were incredible. I would go back in a heartbeat. For business it's a little off the beaten path.
The room was comfortable, also the bar and restaurant. Service was excellent and staff friendly and professional. The sheets in my executive room had a couple of stains and holes.
nice hotel, nice rooms no facilities. for that amount of money expected facilities
Staff were helpful regarding early check-in request
A very warm wlecome when we checked in at 12.30 am!
Good value for money, very comfortable and excellent facilities.
V.Obliging staff on desk, restaurant. Excellent breakfast/brunch open Sunday until 11.30.Dinner good, if a little lacking atmosphere in restaurant V.Difficult to locate, must input sat nav details. Not easily seen from adjoining main road.
exelent service and a good breakfast
I think the efforts of the staff all round made up for the shortcommings of the hotel generally. Considering Ramada Jarvis are regarded as 'High Level' hotels, unfortunately this did not live up to expectations with the room being noisy and small for a premium price. This compared to a Premier Inn made the stay not value for money.
Swimming pool, sauna, HB inclusive, room facilities. No free internet access
Not what we expected. Barcelo name suggests an upmaket place but it was just average, breakfast was good though. Cramped room, black mould in the tiling in bathroom.
We booked room only at a very reasonable price - only marginally more than a Travelodge. Hotel was very good for the money. The facilities were very good and staff helpful. We did not take breakfast as this was rather expensive at £25 for two people. Wifi was not free.
Front of House Staff are professional and friendly. The bathroom was not to my standard. There was a used shower gel container remaining on the shower fitment indicating that the shower and bath are not regularly included in the routine cleaning. This is poor practise and I consider unacceptable. I was disappointed that this was the case.
The Hotel and grounds were beautifully kept and the staff very polite and helpful. We really enjoyed the leisure centre and swimming pool. We had no hot water in our room due to a boiler fault but the staff made sure we could shower elsewhere it was inconvenient though. I was also dissappointed that for a four star hotel there were no table cloths on the dining tables for dinner it made it feel more like a pub.
the staff were very helpfull and as i was late for dinner they fitted me in and with no complaint thank them very much
Reasonable cost and good service
The bar felt welcoming, more personal than usual hotel bars.
We only stayed for one night as we were going to a local wedding. Good transport to location provided by minicabs to church and home that evening. I did not like the fact that the curtains did not keep out the light in the morning as they were not wide enough. Other friends mentioned this also.
We liked our stay here and will use this hotel again. Easy to find and car parking is good. Althougth we had a problem with the bed the hotel were very concerned about this in the morning.
The room could have been warmer for our arrival, as the weather was very cold and it took hours for our room to be at a comfortable temperature, we wouldnt recommend the restaurant, we thought the meals were not good value or had any flavour apart from the oil or fat they were cooked in.
Very friendly staff, excellent premier breakfast
I liked the fact that it was easy and very relaxed, the restuarant was nice and friendly. The room was comfortable and relatively quiet, its a bit difficult as there is a lot of comings and goings. I like the fact you dont have to book out until 12 pm. The table in the double rooms could be a bit higher as it is usually used for either working on on eating/drinking on.
Good breakfast, friendly staff, clean and pleasant They had sold our room but eventually found one
Unbeleivable value for money! Excellent standard of cleanliness & top value food!! There honestly was not any.
- Close to airport - Easy to listen next room conversation - separate hot and cold water tabs - no free wifi - no international tv Channels
home from home , highly ecomended none
The requirement was for an inexpensive weekend stay to visit family, your hotel fitted the requirement very well regarding location and price. No dislikes as such, perhaps a few more coffee and milk helpings in the room.
The late room check out on weekend was great. We had breakfast at 11:00am and finally left the hotel around 3pm. The room service meal we had on Friday evening was dreadful. It took 45 minutes to get the food and when we got it, it was cold and my sandwich was soggy. It had obviously been left standing around for ages. The food was also wet from where the drinks had been spilt when being carried to our room.
The location and the hotel gardens
Beautiful Grounds. Good food. Nice atmosphere None
Beautiful grounds and surroundings, excellent breakfast and coffee the coffee provided in the rooms ! we had to go out for one elsewhere! No facilities for meal or a bar drink.
Location handy for my needs. Very quiet - I was in the outlying Grange building. Couldn't get the internet working even with staff help. And from the Grange it's a long way in the rain to the main building where the food is!
The main hotel looked fabulous however we stayed in the lodge which wasn't particularly great. The room was basic which was fine however not particularly clean which was quite disappointing
Peace and quiet. Particularly noisy early am
it was morden and affordable breakfast had no napkins and was not offered tea or coffee had to ask for it
Good location and value More fitness facilities, a gym would have been nice
Rooms were quiet, no interuptions from other guests
Value for money option, way above standard for others of a similar proce bracket. Excellent breakfast. Friendy staff. Room was clean though a little dusty. The roof eaves ran through our bathroom so showering was a challnge. The only fault is trying to find the hotel. The navigation information provided is incorrect.
Nothing good to say about this Hotel it was not a memorable experience. I am going to write a letter of complaint. Hotel staff rude, and not welcoming apart from hotel manager. B/f service was poor and tables dirty. Room had no coffee or tea making facilites forcing you to order a drink from the bar. Room was shabby, ie bedroom curtains and shower curtains were falling down. Shower head was full of limescale and had not been maintained for sometime. Bed spreads and blankets were stained.......yuk!. Hair dryer broken. Meals available were poor and standard of food was poor for a resturant of three stars. Room service availability was poor ie phone was not answered. The Hotel was of a shabby standard all round and was extremely difficult to find in terms of Car Parking. Difficult to get answer from Hotel for directions as postcode on Website wrong.
convenient to all amenities in the town, reception staff friendly we stayed for 3 nights and the room was only cleaned once
The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for me as I was visiting a sick friend in Basingstoke and they 'lifted my spirits' the atmosphere in general was good. The hotel was exceptionally handy to the railway station and the bus station and of course the shopping centre. The double glazed window was not sealed and the noise from people outside was a bit irritating, my room was over the front entrance. Traffic noise was also noticeable. The room was therefore a bit on the chilly side due to the window not closing properly and the heating did not appear to work. In general the hotel would need to be re-decorated, a lick of paint, just to take that 'worn' look off it. Though the rooms I must say were spotless.
Convenience to Basingstoke town centre
All the staff we met, on reception, bar/restaurant and cleaning staff were all friendly and polite. Also, we came for the weekend to do all our Christmas shopping, so the location, right opposite the Festival Centre, was excellent for our purposes. If there was any criticism it would only be that the bathroom was a bit dated and the grout and fittings etc looked a bit shabby and old. It was very clean though.
Staff very friendly. very convenient for shops and theatre The breakfast. not enough food coming out only appeared in dribs & drabs so had to keep getting up. The scrambled egg was not only cold it tasted like powdered egg.
The attitude of the staff
bedding old fashioned
Staff responses to problems.
The location was excellent as was the breakfast. Reception staff and bar staff very friendly Having upgraded the room, I was dissapointed that it was a lower standard than I would have expected, fairly basic, nothing special.
Being kept waiting for 15 mins by night staff who was in kitchen making a meal, at 12.20am,,, Hotel was great, need to employ people that will not let the team down.
Good room size. Efficient room service. Needs complete modernisation/refit, or at least redecoration. No face towel/flannel in bathroom.
The courtesy from Staff and the freindly recption.
The hotel was not very busy, but they still managed to put someone right above me
Very friendly helpful staff
All staff - except reception- were very good, everyone greeted my Father and I with a smile and were very helpful and kind, even the cleaning team stopped what they were doing to greet us. The soup we had in the evening was excellent as were the waiting staff they went the extra mile The receptionist on duty at 21.15 on 10th November was disinterested, did not offer help or assistance with my disabled Father on arrival or help with the bags, I was given my keys with a curt explanation of directions, it was not until Alison arrived on the desk that we were given help or made welcome. There was a problem was with the room location when I moved to a cheaper rate room to be next to my father I was told I had to pay the same rate as I had booked on line, I was assured the problem with the difference in room tariff was sorted that night, when I checked in the morning nothing had been done. The morning receptionist was equally difficult and stated the booking fee problem was nothing to do with the hotel but was with the booking agent. When I contacted the agent this was clearly not so Eventually on leaving the hotel some concession was made which the receptionists said was impossible for them to do but a further refund of £40 for the first night in my view is required and I will be contacting the management over this matter
Very dated with real need for makeover and maintenance. Bathroom door didn't shut. Picture hanging off wall.
Prompt and courteous both booking in and out. Clean, well presented and comfortable room The Sunday morning breakfast was quite chaotic. The flasks used for tea and coffee contained both but not separately ! At breakfast the previous day we were asked on arrival at the dining room what drink we wanted, tea or coffee and it was delivered promptly to the table. There was insufficient toast and quite a large queue formed.
Had a king size room - nice and spacious Shower was too low - couldn't stand in it properly. Plates in the restaurant were all dirty and the staff member was unimpressed when I told him so.
use of swimming pool.breakfast
Very clean, beautiful buildings and gardens The staff (mostly east-european) was very unfriendly. Coffee was cold when I got breakfast served. They charged me in Euros instead of Pounds on my visa without asking meaning that I pay more to the hotel, that's ripping off.
Not bad, thought I would be getting a better room for the money paid. Very average. Double bed was fare too small. Mattress fare too soft, room far too small. Not enough hanging space in wardrobes. Lacked not having a mini bar, and fridge.TV Not adequate.Bed far too soft, too hot at night.
Excellent. Beautiful surroundings- the gardens were lovely. Food was very good and service excellent. I left my bracelet in my room and the hotel sent it on immediately. I definitely recommend this hotel and we shall be returning. Earlier check in would be better- 3.30pm is a little bit late in the day to really get to enjoy all the facilities if you are staying one night.
Beautiful grounds and nice food. Tennis and swimming facilities are good if not very new.
The thing I liked best was the Molton Brown stuff, the robes etc in the bathroom. I get annoyed when I pay this sort of money for a hotel room and its clearly been penny pinched. Stupid little cups to make tea in in the morning. Mugs are what real men need. Irons and ironing boards should be available in all rooms as standard - most business travellers will need to iron a shirt and its a pain to have to call housekeeping.
Cosy, well presented, comfortable bed, and lovely bathroom. Nothing
Quality of rooms and gardens Very slow dinner service
it was my anniversary and they made it special the dinner was not good and the breakfast was cold
Helpful staff and good parking
Excellent Clean and tidy hotel
The hotel was grubby and needs refurbishment Although the staff were very good the food was poor.
Price and overall VFM.
Comfortable clean bed Room very dusty, breakfast on cold plates and poor service, inadequate lighting in room for make up etc. general staff helpful
Good size of room good T making facilities and stereo was nice touch
I came, i slept, i left!! Breakfast was not fresh but dry and pre cooked.
Good selection of food on menu Room was basic
The rooms were quite large and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. A full English Breakfast was included in the price and I was surprised that you could choose from the menu if you didnt want this, which was great, plus you could help yourself to cereal, fruit, pastries and muffins etc if you wanted. Although the rooms were big, the heating didnt appear to be on, so the room felt quite cold, it probably didnt help that the windows are quite old and probably need replacing.
Double room was large, clean and comfortable. Liked the in-room ironing facilities and mini hi-fi. Good value at the on-line rate. Creaky floorboards can make for a noisy night. Some of the decor is tired.. Food ordered at the bar was disappointing.
We liked the whole setting of the hotel. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. We found the staff very helpful.
Staff very friendly and helpful, did as the said they would at time of booking and gave us a larger room. Even called to book a taxi for us. Would recommend staying there. Inside could do with some new carpets and a bit of painting and it would be a beautiful hotel.
Some staff did not speak english
Great location. Room contained all the basic facilities we required. Reception staff were helpful and happily provided a sewing kit to fix a button which had fallen off a shirt. Room is desperately in need of refurbishment. Threadbare carpet, bathroom in need of replacement, new tiles etc. Reception staff didn't know that the corridor to our room was closed for painting, so we had to retrace our steps and walk twice the distance. Not worth the price, except for the great location.
would have liked a menu in the room.
Very well trained staff, friendly and accommodating. This hotel requires a serious re furbishment. The room was dismal, the curtains were falling down and the shower delivered water that was too hot or too cold. The pipes leaked from the W.C when flushed as did the bath when taps were turned on. Everything is seriously dated, including the dining room whcih had chairs that were falling apart. When I was checking out another guest was complaining about similar things in her room. Shame on you Mercure.
I liked the large comfortable bed. nicely decorated room clean and warm superb television.nice clean bathroom. Nothing that I did not like.
Bar prices were ridiculous
Olde world atmosphere and very good Noisy floors and hard pillows
pleasant and helpful staff no
