10.0 Excellent
Pros: Vicky and her hubby are lovely and natural hosts who make you feel very comfortable and welcome
Cons: nothing, only constructive negative to perhaps look into is that it might be good to have blackout curtains inthe bedrooms for light sleepers like myself. I found myself up at about 4 am because of too much light coming through.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is by far the best B&B I have ever stayed in. The cottage is sumptuous and our hosts the kindest and most attentive people you could wish to meet.
Cons: Nothing - it was absolute perfection.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a lovely quaint place. The best hosts very attentative, anything to please. Cream tea on arrival, one of the best breakfasts ever, all you need in the room and more. We spent a long time talking to Robin about mutual interests, especially fishing & outdoor sports. Highly recommended

Pros: Our stay at Vine Cottage was extremely comfortable, we were made very welcome!! The room was very comfortable, as was the bed. Lots of tea/coffee facilities provided, plus home made rock cakes - delicious! Your own shower room is across the landing - very modern and clean! The breakfast in the mornings, was superb - hot fresh filter coffee, pot of fresh made tea, fresh fruit, cereal, nuts, yogurts, toast and homemade jam/ marmalade and to top it off, hot freshly cooked breakfast of your choice!
Cons: Honestly, nothing

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Delicious breakfast, comfy bed.
Cons: It was a little difficult to access due to local bridge closures, but the owner did her best to help. It was also a little awkward having the bathroom across the landing, but it was ok and a really nice bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners went out of their way to be helpful. They even gave us a lift to the wedding and picked us up at the end of the evening.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and quiet place, choice of rich continental or english breakfast, very nice hosts
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hosts, very nice room!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Janie was great during the pre-arrival stage ensuring we knew about the room as well as trying to work something out as we were arriving early and heading off to a wedding. On arrival we found our room ready and wonderful. We were able to finish getting ready in peace before heading off. Having known that we were going to be relatively late we warned Janie of this and on our return found that her partner was still up and waiting for us at around 10.30 to ensure we got in ok. The room was super comfy although maybe the pillows were a little soft for personal preference. The bathroom was spotless and the shower nice and powerful. Breakfast the next day was lovely and tailored to what we wanted, and in general the property seemed to be in lively condition. Toffee the dog was a lovely addition to the stay. The only negative was that we didn't get a chance to explore the nearby area for walks etc.
Cons: Pillows could have been a little firmer for my personal preference.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about the cottage was perfect for what I needed. Nigel was an amazing host who told some fascinating stories and was an all round top guy. I was attending a wedding close by and he even went out of his way to drop me and my mate off and pick us up later on. 10/10 for service. Breakfast in the morning was also top draw!

7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast was adequate, but the fresh fruit was not necessarily ripe enough to eat. The bed was comfortable, and the central heating was instant! There was adequate space, but see comments below. Did not try the pool or the hot tub, so cannot comment.
Cons: We found that there was a lack of surface space, especially in the bathroom. Also noticed there were a lack of hooks to hang up clothes. This would be important if you had arrived for a function with clothes on hangers. There didn't seem to be a way of reducing the shower water temperature to a comfortable level; it was either extremely hot, or burning hot. I feel a lot of technically unsavvy guests would have a problem with the TV.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just excellent - all of it!
Cons: Swimming pool - but a minor detail
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice little ‘bedsit’. Friendly welcome and good facilities for cooking and relaxing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a beautiful location. The owner can not do any more to help you and explains where everything is and how to use it. We enjoyed our stay using the hot tub and swimming pool during the evening then relaxing in the communal building which has a warm homely feel before retiring to our room where we had a lovely shower and a soft clean bed. Will be returning in the future.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved everything about the place, a lovely bedroom with comfortable bed and excellent en-suite. The facilities were extremely good with outdoor pool, hot tub and lounge and kitchen. Well stocked hamper in the room including drinks and yogurts in the fridge.

Cons: Absolutely nothing. Spot on.
7.9 Good
Pros: beautiful village and comfortable characterful cottage with lots of room. Delicious breakfast. We will stay again

Pros: Warm welcome after long, tiring day. Bed extremely comfortable. Great shower! Beautiful rural setting. Short circular walk into village from property. Excellent communication throughout and recommendation for White Hart pub - can recommend the hake dish!
Cons: Towels were excellent quality but frayed at the edges. Not a complaint - more an observation but did ever so slightly spoil overall quality of room. Would have been good to have decaf tea as well!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet location, but fairly close to amenities. Comfy bed and great shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Immediately welcomed and shown accommodation and facilities. All spotlessly clean and relaxing.

Pros: Staff were very polite and helpful throughout all the mishap.
Cons: Was given the wrong room as just after midnight the duty manager knocked on the door asking us to vacate the room into a different one. Breakfast was not up to a standard I was expecting but the roast chicken dinner we had the day before was lovely. At checkout we discovered that the room we should've had was right next door to the original room given.

6.7 Good
Pros: Staff were friendly and the food was good value.
7.1 Good
Pros: Nice spacious room.
Cons: Just a personal preference that I like my accommodation to be part of the main building, not even a short walk away.

Cons: nothing

7.9 Good
Pros: staff and location
Cons: wifi didn't work
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Didn't have breakfast as we had a really early start; however hostess was fantastic and said to help ourselves to cereal, toast, tea etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Well equipped and comfortable rooms and fabulous friendly people.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Maxine was lovely. Couldnt have done more to ensure i had everything
Cons: Bathroom was upstairs. And staircases were steep and have no handrails
7.9 Good
Pros: Close to the town, lovely deco, nice big rooms and lovely bathroom.
Cons: Noise from the doors in the property banging and from the pub next door. Needed to keep the bathroom window open as the radiator was on most of the time with the hot water but that meant the pub noise filtered in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The couple was really welcoming and truly welcomed me. Excellent service
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Never entered a room through the bathroom. Very unclean - flush did not work, couldn’t open windows so room was stuffy and hot. Could not reach anyone despite trying several times to a number for emergency contact. Absolutely rubbish. Would avoid at any cost.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Maxine & Gabriel are lovely caring people who made us feel really welcome. Had a great 2 night stay at 1 Park Row and would love to come again. X
Cons: Nothing. All good
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly B&B, and very accommodating in letting me have the room key early (as I was going to a wedding). Single room was great value for money - small but clean and perfectly adequate. Breakfast was good with lots of choice, including some lovely pastries.
Cons: It took me a while to work out how to close the window! (Held open by a bit of wood on a hinge system - had me stumped for a while!)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fine. Location was just right for our needs.
Cons: Stairs a bit steep for a couple in their 80's (us) - not a problem for us but a bit more handrail provision would have helped, especially if we had been carrying luggage for a longer stay.
The Anchor Inn - Alton - Building
9
8.9 Excellent (298 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Anchor Inn in Alton, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Jane Austen's House Museum and Farnham Castle. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Pros: The old rustic style of the property. Original wooden beams and the sense it closely resembled what it would originally have looked like. Staff were very friendly.
Cons: Car parking can be a little difficult on busy nights as people visit the pub. There are no reserved spaces just for those staying the night. So one evening had to park the car down the road and move it later on once pub guests left for the night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: To my untrained eye it had an air of authenticity - the beams were exposed, rough hewn and, I can attest, below head height in places. The food was magnificent - the staff had an air (I repeat myself) of rustic charm - they were engaging without being intrusive and to me a lack of high street sophistication which added to their appeal. We were lodged in the Siegfried Sassoon room. I had by chance read a few days earlier Siegfried's poem "the General" : ‘Good-morning; good-morning!’ the General said When we met him last week on our way to the line. Now the soldiers he smiled at are most of ’em dead, And we’re cursing his staff for incompetent swine. ‘He’s a cheery old card,’ grunted Harry to Jack As they slogged up to Arras with rifle and pack. . . . . But he did for them both by his plan of attack.
Cons: Leaving the Anchor Inn to fly back to NZ.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: B&B Fabulous value for money. Food was exceptional
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Shower door *still* doesn't work. Radiator in the bathroom was set to maximum heat so the room was uncomfortably hot when I arrived. Seems daft (commercially and environmentally) to heat the room to extreme levels at the same time as leaving the windows open to cool it down.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet, lovely rooms, very helpful accommodating staff
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really lovely old pub with very comfortable rooms. Superb food for both dinner and breakfast
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Bed was uncomfortable for us and evening meal was not up to the standard of the excellent breakfast.
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice meal in the evening and a good pint
Cons: No bulbs in the table or standard lamps even after I mentioned it to the barman. Cold poached eggs. Also unfortunately there was a power cut so we couldn't have a shower or a cooked breakfast. I know it wasn't their fault but I wasn't offered any type of discount and on checking my bill I noticed a 1.10 and a 7 pounds discretionary service charge.
7.9 Good
Pros: Room size, veranda, location, library, tea/coffee making, fresh milk Bed large and very comfortable Linen and towels excellent quality
Cons: Fresh milk left uncovered outside bedroom door, heating on full one evening, large expanse of curtaining on gable window had holes with lining extensivelyfrayed and ripped. Veranda door would not lock although key changed. Service at breakfast unthoughtful and the last breakfast was cold, slow, bread not toasted at all...dreadful!

Pros: The friendliness of the the staff, superb meals and a great atmosphere. Don't leave without trying their home made breakfast marmalade... By far the best I have ever tasted.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The greeting on entering the Jolly Drover after a long journey. The room was well equipped, spacious and plenty of tea & coffee bags. After a comfortable nights restful sleep the breakfast was excellent with a varied choice of cereals and a hearty cooked breakfast of your choice.
7.9 Good
Pros: Rooms were clean and very well presented. However, no soap or shampoo.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was modern and a very good size. It had all of the usual facilities with a nice walk in shower. There was an iron, ironing board and trouser press in the room. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The evening meal and the breakfast were very well cooked and presented, with plenty of choice. I would stay there again when in the area.
Cons: There was nothing that warrants a negative comment. My wife would have preferred a second pillow to be available but, to be fair, we did not ask for one so this is not a criticism. I am sure, that had we asked the staff for another pillow they would have accommodated.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good Selection of food evening menu. Breakfast Good Staff friendly and helpful
Cons: TV Recption poor
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Alex was extremely friendly and very helpful. The rooms were incredible and very clean.
Cons: There was nothing not to like. The place is perfect!
7.9 Good
Pros: Food was delicious and staff extremely helpful and courteous
Cons: Room was fairly basic for price. Lighting was quite poor and had to sit on bed as there was only 1 chair. The roon was obviously set up for disabled use and had wetroom rather than bathroom
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly atmosphere. Community spirit, great service and very plentiful and yummy food and drinks

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Really enjoyed my stay here. The bath is so deep and the bed is amazingly comfortable. The atmosphere in the bar is great and the staff are all very welcoming and helpful. I will definitely stay again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful. Set up for a dog too with some lovely little touches. The staff could not have been more helpful. Very impressive service. I loved the place. Food excellent too.
Cons: Can’t really fault it to be honest!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Old fashioned country inn with a twist
Cons: The extractor fans in the kitchen broke so there was no dinner available - not their fault but as we had booked to stay, so that we could eat in it was a shame. The staff helped us find another restaurant and everything was fine but not as good as we wanted or expected. This morning the kitchen was still out of operation so they laid on a cold buffet - I felt very sorry for the waitress as they had obviously sent everyone else home but one member of staff was not enough to service the whole restaurant. And, the cold buffet was very poor - again I appreciate it was not their fault but anyone could have gone to Sainsburys and bought better croissant etc - even the bread wasn't good and the toaster didn't work properly. All these are minor things but what really pi**ed me off was the attitude of the duty manager who obviously didn't care. We paid for B&B but didn't get the breakfast and she didn't even apologise when I went to pay.
7.9 Good
Pros: Excellent food. Nice staff great bed
Cons: Pub rooms. Not a boutique hotel but a great time effort
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were most Attentive and caring. My husband is partially sighted. We were travelling enroute to a function. A delightful young lady helped with my sat nav.
Cons: The breakfast for me was excellent and the duck eggs were cooked to perfection BUT the continental choice was not up to standard. Sorry we don’t like gin in the room. Perfect in the refreshment room. Good idea.
7.0 Good
Pros: The staff were friendly and welcoming. The beds were comfy with a decent shower. We liked the location although it really is in the middle of no where
Cons: The decor was a little tired and a bit scruffy. The radiator was belting out heat all night and was far too hot. We also missed out on a full English Breakfast as the extractor fan had broken and had to settle for a cold continental breakfast, which was very disappointing. Although this couldn't be helped it was not reflected in the bill. The car park was quite small and a little chaotic. No kettle in room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lucky to be upgraded to their best room. Fab
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic.
Cons: Really pleasant people, very accommodating.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The ambition of the place is just fine, but it's the execution that is lacking. There is something lacking in the warmth of the experience, which you know that with a creating manager would be pretty quickly overcome.
Cons: The meal was dull, and very expensive for what it was. The wine list is massively over-priced, too. And there is just a lack of warmth / love - call it what you will - that makes other places like it so pleasant to visit.

The netting for the windows were grey but I think it's age and dirt! There was a wall by the parallel with the bed that's stained?! Spa facilities Hotel guests needs to pay. TV should have more channels as freeview channels was very choppy!

Pros: It was a nice property but in this current economic climate, you can get much more for the same price. The staff are overworked and very stressed! You need a professional chef and extra staff! I would not stay there again. This place has potential be a very nice hotel. More investment and more staff methinks! Good luck whatever happens. My number is 07484 387733 I am happy to have a polite chat if you wish. Regards, Ken.

Cons: Beds were too soft.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean, spacious, bed was too comfortable, honest! Family bedroom, was large, warm and quiet. Best bed (and pillows) I’ve slept in, brilliant. Great breakfast and evening snacks or meals. Staff were as usual excellent. This was our second visit, we’d go back anytime. Safe parking for our motorbike outside with good lighting.
Cons: Nothing at all.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, excellent value for money. Linen, towels etc very clean. That it had a restaurant and bar so after a long day you didn't need to go elsewhere.
Cons: Road noise. The bathroom needed a "deep clean", had been surfaced cleaned but pipes, extractor, bin were all dusty.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Neat and tidy and easy check-in and check out
7.1 Good
Pros: Very comfortable stay in a character-filled country hotel, it is a little out of the way, which wasn't a problem for us but could be for some.
Cons: There was a function on so we could only order dinner after 8PM, after a long day travelling that was too late for us. I would have thought that guests paying to stay in the hotel should be able to order a meal when it suits them rather than when it suits the hotel.

Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful indeed. We didn’t see the property in daylight but it looked as though it would be in a beautiful setting. A quiet location but when we stayed there was a wedding celebration.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfy bed, lighting was good and plenty of drinks available in the room. Nice to have a good selection of TV channels as well.
Cons: My room was above the bar (I think) so around 11pm/1130pm there was a few people talking loudly in the corridor and outside. Soon quietened down though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, the rooms and the staff. The staff couldn’t have been more pleasant or helpful. The room was perfect and we were lucky enough to have patio door and outdoor seating area. The grounds looked lovely and were well maintained with only the weather stopping us from exploring more. Two minutes from Farnham centre but felt like miles from anywhere.
Cons: Leaving
4.2 Okay
Pros: Beautiful setting.
Cons: The bed was so uncomfortable it felt like the springs were popping though. Dripping tap, toilet didn’t flush well and shower wasn’t great. Went down for breakfast, it was a while before a member of staff greeted me. I wanted to order Salmon but like I said it was a while before I was greeted. No fruit on offer and made do with what was on offer.
