The authentic style of the Ryokan, the room and the neighbourhood. The meal was excellent, the best we had in Japan during our stay. Close to train and bus.
Good location that takes around 10-min walk from Aso station. Private onsen and breakfast is good. If there is sashimi for dinner that would be perfect.
Did not like barbecue for dinner in such season. It’s still very hot in October. The room was not clean enough as there was still some dust on the table.
Fabulous people, very helpful and friendly. They made us welsh people (visiting japan for the Rugby World Cup feel very welcome). The food was superb, very filling and good variety. They left small treats to eat in our room which was much appreciated. The building is lovely and transports you to a more relaxed place. They even drove us back to the station.
The mattress could be a bit thicker or firmer.
The food is great, the Onsen is terrific, the staff is amazing and helpful, and the location right next to the main attractions.
If traveling to Aso, try to stay at this magnificent place. The building is impressive, an old samurai house in a very pretty area near Aso station. The food - especially dinner - was some of the best food we have in Japan so far (and I have spent quite a lot of time in this country). The portions were very big, so don’t eat anything at least 4 hours beforehand. But every course the hostess served was brilliant. The rooms were typical Japanese tatami rooms with futons and spotless clean. You could use the smaller onsen privately or the bigger common ones. We really had an amazing stay (Aso region is great for hiking too) and would always come back.
An inn operated by a traditional farmer who is proud of their delicious cuisine, and hospitality, finally opened! Kept high rating on our magazine, homemade heartfelt cuisine and private family bath. Our president, well known as "Oichan (uncle)," is very busy harvesting summer vegetables.
