10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice big suite, firm mattresses, ample supplies, very nice pool and gardens. The location is just one block to the lake, town square, restaurants and shops.
Cons: We would like to see them add Mexican art and color to the suite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location! Kind and helpful staff. Very clean and well set up.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location close to town amenities and resturants, Playita beach club is only a five minute walk. Good value for money. Well equipped kitchen. Overall it was great for our family of five (three young kids).
Cons: The hotel shares a name with another hostel (totally different and in a slightly out of town location). We were dropped off at the wrong place but the hotel staff quickly arranged a taxi and couldn’t have been more helpful. Make sure you have the address to hand!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love how big, clean, and beautiful the suites are, the pool is amazing too. I really appreciate the staff who are always available especially through whatsapp whenever we needed ANYTHING I text them and get an answer immediately. This is my second stay and wont be my last!
Cons: Like most beds in mexico its a little on the hard side, not like a rock but very firm still 2 of us slep fine but the 3rd person was very uncomfortable.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Large room & pool, free water
Cons: No hairdryer, no breakfast option, staff not always available at the property
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place in central Bacalar. 2 blocks from the laguna, 2 blocks from the main square. We stayed with a group of 7 in the big apartment upstairs with a great terrace to enjoy the mornigs and evenings outside. Apartment is clean, large and comfortable. During the day there is a nice pool to cool down. Aldo, our host, was extremely helpful and friendly.
Cons: All was great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Where to begin....fantastic room with kitchen facilities and bathroom. Netflix on the tv, lovely clean swimming pool on the grounds and in a great location. The staff are very friendly and they have a whatsapp Number Incase you have any problems. They are very quick to respond. Check in was a piece of cake and overall it was an excellent stay.
Cons: No negatives for this property but if we were to be picky, it was that we could only store our bags until 5pm after check out - we had a night bus at 11:50pm from Chetumal. However we just chilled by the pool for the evening and it wasn’t a problem
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Huge apartment well equipped 5 min walk to the lagoon.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great, short walk to the lagoon as well as downtown area. Pool was nice, area very secure, had a full size fridge, plenty of drinking water and coffee setup. Owner/manager onsite, lovely jar of local honey when leaving, very nice touch.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was quite a convenient stay for us, we wanted to see the lagoon and the tour place we wanted was just down the street, there was also a good restaurant down the street on the lagoon, we walked to downtown easily, there was also a public accesss to the lagoon close by. The pool area is very clean, I liked the pool as well, the suite is quite roomy. The hotel itself feels good.
Cons: The couch, there, it looks great, but what an aweful 90 degrees bend in there there is not much comfort. It doesn't have a generator for the short power outages. I recommend bringing matches but they do provide a candle =D

6.8 Good
Pros: Breakfast was really good
Cons: Location
5.0 Okay
Pros: Place is ok
Cons: Worst neighborhood of the town Really overpriced
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After our travels in Belize, this was the first accommodation in Mexico to hit. The staff is enormously friendly! We were welcomed with enthusiasm and warmth from the beginning! The rooms are crispy clean, designish and  have a beautiful bathroom. We stayed only two nights due to our tight schedule, but the town of Bacalar has much more to offer and we would have definitely stayed here for more nights. You would not need much more when you are the active type of tourist. The breakfast was served each morning in the gorgeous garden and the neighborhood itself isn't busy at all. The professional and kind staff will make sure you are comfortable and never short of something. When we left we forgot a short in the room and at the ADO busstop one of the staff brought it back last minute! Also we want to point out there is a clear sense of safety in this town and the hotel and this was very different from our previous experiences in Cancun! Furthermore you will find everything you need, restaurants, supermarkets and shops nearby the hotel. The staff is happy to provide you with all information. We did half a day kayak on the lake and had some great relaxing time after. You don't want to miss out on this!
Cons: The breakfast is ok, however it left me a little hungry so the next day I asked for eggs also.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were really helpful with everything and suggested some awesome things for us to do during our stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place was perfect for us. 2 minutes walk from the ADO stop. There were 2 big beds in the room, perfect to just crash after a long day. The room was quite big and stylish. The bathroom was also big and in general everything is good! Also, there is an OXXO round the corner, and the walk to the center is enjoyable!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was very nicely renovated, Gabriel is welcoming. AC is silent, breakfast was good also. Very good for couples. No lagoon view but all places are easily reachable. I recommend!
Cons: Only one thing: the misundersanting about the absence of breakfast before the 5 AM stand-up paddle tour. This has to be fixed for next guests taking this tour (at least fruits prepared in the evening).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean and big rooms, breakfast
Cons: A bit far from the main area (15-20min walk)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The couple that takes care of the property went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. They were always there if we needed anything. Their english is very good, so communication is not a problem. Apart from the breakfast that is included in the stay they also offer different menu options, e.g. yummy vegan smoothies and coconut bowls, paninis, enchiladas and more and they are very flexible to adjust to your needs. we could have not asked for better hosts, they are super lovely and attentive people and have a passion for hospitality. They even gave us a ride to the bus station which is 30 seconds away by car :)
Cons: The double beds are very comfortable but too narrow for 2 people to sleep in. The internet dropped in and out all the time, made it difficult to do some work on the laptop (especially when you have a VPN client). There was only one router for the whole property. It would be nice to have access to rental bikes through the property. Its a bout a 10 minute walk to the town square and if you look around, there are rental options there, ranging from 15 to 25 pesos an hour. Margaritas seems to be the cheapest option with 15 pesos per hour. When you book a boat tour with the hotel and you want an english tour to get some infos about the beautiful and unique laguna, make sure they specify that at the booking! Although we specifically asked for the english tour there was some confusion once we were on the boat and the captain giving us attitude for not speaking spanish.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Neat and modern place, reminded us of a new Australian motel. It is clean and comfortable and as quiet as it gets in Mexico (traffic, dogs etc are everywhere but it's quiet here, not much traffic, not a busy road and the noisy dogs don't live next door so they will only pass by). Highly recommended place to stay. But the best part is really the young couple running it, without their advise and recommendations, we would not have a proper Bacalar experience!
Cons: Nothing relevant.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Near to the station. Couple who manages the place are very nice and always ready to help. We paid an extra for the bowls for the breakfast but I really advice you to do that, those bowls they made are awesome!
Cons: At least 15 min walk from the center, if you have a bike it’s totally fine
Hotel Tuparenda - Bacalar - Bedroom
3
9.0 Excellent (320 reviews)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice stay in a nice hotel. Great terrace on the roof, with pool which was an extra bonus. Also a great place to serve breakfast! the walls are thin, but we had a good night sleep.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The locations is good and the staff really kind.
Cons: Breakfast was a bit repetitive (basically eggs) and there are not many options.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was a beautiful building with a nice rooftop. The breakfast was great and the owner was such a nice guy. He recommended us a few places, what was amazing. We did not have such a good experience of Bacalar If he would tell us that all.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast of eggs done any way was fabulous and on the roof top. The hotel is really quiet and in a good location for everything, an oasis.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice, clean, comfortable...staff were so helpful and lovely, especially helpful was the man who told us to go to Sac Ha and recommended nice restaurants to us too, thanks so much :)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice courtyard and terrace, manager was helpful and very tasty traditional breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, great location, well maintained, extremely clean , beautiful decoration,
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect, clean and cosy!
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The manager is the nices, most helpful guy! It's clean and the location is just 2 minutes walk from the lagoon. And the breakfast is great. There is even a pool if u want
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Overall, we had a lovely stay at this hotel. The hotel was nicely decorated and had a lovely rooftop pool with a view over the lake. The staff were very welcoming. Very thoughtfully, they organised a breakfast especially for us, despite it being outside the usual breakfast time, when we had to check out early. Great location, within 5 mins walking distance to the lake and 10 minutes to the town.
Cons: The rooms were small, but still very comfortable.
7.0 Good
Pros: The stuff was very kind and helpful. The hotel is pretty new. The breakfast was just ok.
Cons: The area is not the best. Road constructions were taking place close to the hotel, abd it is not so close to the main square.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing and so was the room. Everything was excellent value for money.
Cons: There was no hot water and the beds and pillows weren't the most comfortable. The curtains also didn't work.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful situation on the lake. Easy to meet people and many activities available. I really enjoyed my stay here! Breakfast included! Highly recommended if you’re travelling alone
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location couldn’t be better. The staff are friendly. Bar is cool!
Cons: Air con is limited to night hours, so in the day the rooms get very hot. One bathroom per room means sometimes quite a long wait.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Lake right out our window . Great value for money
Cons: Only accepted cash. This is fine but better to know upfront.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff was absolutely friendly, we did a boat tour with Maria and I HIGHLY recommend it! The location was amazing, just a kayak away from the Pirate’s channel :) loved it! Individual Rooms were really cute.
Cons: Bed and pillows could be a little better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location!! Nice facilities! Cool and relaxed vibe! Perfect hostel to chill out for a bit and still have a little party-they offer nice activities every night! :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is great. Bike or kayak to some of the coolest parts of the lake. Bar and activities at the place is great. Guacamole lesson was the best!!!! Clean and beautiful private room. Music turns off at midnight.
Cons: Breakfast could be better- limited protein options.
7.0 Good
Pros: The hostel was very pretty and clean. The breakfast was great and the location is good.
Cons: The value of the money isn’t worth it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was really good, good place to be, the staff is gorgeous!really beutiful place and ambientation.
Cons: You have no control of the A/C The bar is just outside your window. The don't accept payment with card.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location, location, location. It is right on the lagoon. Breakfast is simple: cereal, toast, jams, juice, coffee, and milk, but it is awesome! The sunrise and sunsets are amazing.
Cons: It’s a bit pricey in comparison to other hostels near by, however the lake view is worth it. There is a bar next door which kept their music until late at night and it made it impossible to sleep the first night. I wish they would let you turn the AC on during the day if you decided to stay in.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place with a cool and young team! You need a car to get there, because it's in the middle of nowhere but then you have a garden eden. Nice details and cool cabañas with air conditioning and comfortable beds. The young team is very helpful and the restaurant is delicious! You can swim, take the cayaks and do stand-up paddling for free. Even the pool is nice. Very cool details! When you arrive there is one person with a carrying wagon for the luggage. We could even stay some hours more than the usual checkout. Highly recommend and thanks again to the team!
Cons: Our friends had some ants in their cabaña, unfortunately even after some insecticide they where there. But our cabaña was fine! Even no mosquitoes. Only the shower was soso, salty water (I assume from the laguna) and the toilet wasn't very strong ;-)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing experience, kayaking in Laguna Guerrero... The food prepared by the young chef was tasteful and delicious. We feared for mosquitoes and insects but that was not an issue at all. We enjoyed the solitude and tranquility of the place.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is a rustic property with cabanas, so don’t expect a 5 star resort. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was very good, but not fine dining.
Cons: Our bathroom was very tired and could benefit from a makeover, but there was plenty of hot water.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a fantástic place to relax . The little restaurant serves really delicious food. We definitely want to come back
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Top location. Very beautiful and quiet. Amazing view and nature.
Cons: The cabin is dark and a bit humid (although great view and good beds).
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Little green paradise. The whole property is very well maintained and the cabins are really comfortable. The Laguna is a natural reserve, with no dangerous animals whatsoever. AC works very well. The service is outstanding, the team is really making sure you are having a great stay. Also the food is delicious and there are many options on the menu.
Cons: Some may be rebuked by the slightly salty water in the shower, not an issue for us
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Restaurant menu selection & food quality was excellent! Considering you're in little cabins in the middle of nowhere - very isolated - its cuisine was awesome! Service was friendly & attentive & prices very reasonable. Rooms, i.e cabins were clean, spacious, well appointed but very rustic with amazingly comfortable beds. Huge showers, lots of privacy. A/C works really well. The only thing you'll hear are the Chachalacas waking you up in the morning! Lots of hot water for showers. Pool was beautiful surrounded by lots of lounging area; delicious Pina Coladas!! Bikes, kayaks all included. Swimming in the laguna is incredible & it's only 4ft deep! the water was warm like a bathtub & crystal clear. Scenery just stunning!! Go for minimum 2 nights because it's VERY out of the way so you want to make sure you have the time to enjoy being here. Very relaxing.
Cons: Laguna although stunning & warm temperature for swimming had a totally mucky bottom that you sink deep into if you touch down & then of course it stirs up the water. Keep your feet up & keep swimming and it's awesome experience! When we arrived it was dark-ish & a small sign points towards 'reception' be prepared it's a LONG walk to reception!! But then they'll come back to get your bags & wheel them over to your cabin for you. & they wheel them all out too don't worry. The drive was VERY long to get here due to it's remote location - plan extra driving time & don't come for only one night, make it worth the drive - because it is!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Very quiet and chilled atmosphere. Even without a beach there were swinging beds with pillows and sunbeds on really really nice sundeck. It is located RIGHT on the shore. Kayaks and bicycles were for FREE witch was awesome. We could use them whenever. Really nice garden with lovely lights during the night. Also all plants were nicely trimmed. Breakfast ladies were great. We did not speak Spanish or they English but Google translator made us communicate with no problem.
Cons: SALTY WATER WAS EVERYWHERE (from the shower in our rooms to the water in the swimming pool). Service was pritty much on a chill side.. not really carying for our needs like toilet paper in general toilet. Food unfortunately was overpriced and not really tasty (with seviche made from warm fish and mayonese) Even tho we asked about using tamazcal via email.. It was not avaliable due to... absence of THE one person who could prepare it. (also doors were broken) Swimming pool filtering device was working 12h a day like a never ending lawn moving machine that could be heard across the grounds.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is a secluded dream spot next to an amazing lagoon with manatees. Great to relax and disconnect from it all.
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: We were really looking forward to staying here, but from the moment we arrived it didn't feel like a very welcoming place. There was just something off about it, maybe because there was no manager to oversee things and the two employees didn't seem that interested in having guests. No one else was staying at the hotel, and we were in fact left alone at night on the premises in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. We had come to see manatees but were told that there was only a 20% chance of seeing one, and that was only if we booked a 4 hour boat tour. I don't like to leave a negative review, but El Chital seemed kind of neglected and didn't live up to the photos we saw on the web.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fairly new property. Very helpful staff. Tranquil, quiet location, very clean and comfortable room. You have to walk a few minutes to reach the town's center, but that's not a major drawback and accounts in fact for the tranquil location.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is very cosy and nice, the bed super confy. There is a lot of space and everything was clean.
Cons: It is not very central and unfortunately they dont offer any bikes (unlike other similar hotels in the same price range). Also we found that the staff seems rather unmotivated. They were sitting in front of the TV, sometimes not even greeting guests coming in or walking through the lobby. When we asked for help to organize a sailing trip on the laguna of Bacalar, they informed us with Google, which we could have done by ourselfs. Also with restaurant recommendation they couldnt really help us, which is why we turned to tripadviser.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Gracious Owner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to the water taxi! owner was super friendly and gave a lot of tips to do there
Cons: nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was so kind that he told me everything from how to use facilities, of course, to travel tips like great breakfast places or awesome boat tour
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The best part was the personal attention from staff. Very kind and helpful. The facility seems to be undergoing some renovation (shared kitchen?), didn't ask the particulars as we were there only overnight. Was our first visit to the area, would return. There is a communal refrigerator to keep food and purified water.
Cons: The room did not have any windows to the outside (there was a window on the hallway side of the room, with a curtain) making it dark. Bedsheets could have been newer. It was a simple room, but clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is great! The location is perfect, easily walkable to all the restaurants and good swimming spots, the beds are so comfy, it’s spotlessly clean, they have free drinking water which saves endless plastic bottles and the staff are super helpful!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A great place to stay with a great price
Cons: Freezer on room
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely modern rooms in the quieter part of town (10/15 mins walk or 5 mins nike ride to the centre). Owner was super helpful. Recommended.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice host! Good WiFi. Clean and small, perfect location. Late check in was no problem. (00.30h)

9.3 Excellent
Pros: - location, beach within 5 min walk en nice breakfast/lunch places around the corner - Nice room with good A/C - very secured property
Cons: Nothing absolutely great place to be!
6.3 Good
Pros: It was new
Cons: Odor of insect spray.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, close to the main square.
Cons: Very simple breakfast
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional staff, they are super friendly and helpful. Beds very comfortable. Close to the beautiful lagoon. Fresh water always available in the lobby area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, thoughtfully appointed place. They have cruiser bicycles available, hammocks, a beautiful reception area which is really an open air living room. We slept wonerfully. It feels very safe, with a kind and accommodating staff. Only down marks are for very low water pressure in shower and tap and unreliable wi fi. But in such a stunning place of natural beauty, maybe one can pass on the internet for awhile. I know, heresy....
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, spotless rooms, well designed outside area. Free drinking water is a nice touch, saves on plastic.
Cons: Nothing, everything was great
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It is convenient to the downtown square as well as the lake. We had the desk staff arrange a boat tour for us and they were able to get us on one within 30 minutes and allowed us to extend our checkout in order to do so. The décor of the hotel, inside and out is nicely maintained. Comfy bed, great A/C and shower!
Cons: No mini fridge in our room. A lot of barking dogs during the night (despite this being Mexico, it seemed noisier than many other places we have stayed at) so my husband nicknamed the location Barksalot.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Free parking. Friendly staff and owner. Absolutely Perfect location to go to the lagoon and restaurants. Nice hotel with working a/c and warm water. Owner gave us advice about dollar exchange. They lend you towels to go to the lagoon which is a plus. Security guard at night made the hotel safe.
Cons: Bring cash to pay for the room. Avoid the additional 3% credit card fee. Breakfast was just ok. Could need something else. Served the same thing for the 5 days we were there. Very minimal (bananas, coffee, tea and bread with jam, nutella). They said fresh fruit but in reality it’s was only bananas. Suggestion would be putting a small fridge in the room. We couldn’t access the closet since there was a twin size bed blocking it.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent position few minutes walking from the laguna. Staff kind and supportive. Very nice communal space.
Cons: The shower...it was impossible to not flood the bathroom.
6.8 Good
Pros: they don't offer breakfast
Cons: I had the room beside the reception and could hear every check-in

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely quiet casa with a lovely garden area. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed our stay and would love to return one day.
Cons: The rooms & furnishing are a little outdated but very comfortable. Everything else was fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is beautiful it feels very homey, nice staff Beautiful garden Nice bedroom with Netflix We really enjoyed.
Cons: I like everything
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Coffe and free crackers for breakfast. The bed was really comfortable and the garden is beautiful!
Cons: The location is really good for those who want to stay somewhere central but still very quiet. It is almost 20 mins walk to the central plaza. However, they have free bikes at the place, which are bery handy and fun:)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I had booked a small single room for 3 days at the Las Lunas and they gave me the biggest room on the deck with a king size bed and a sitting area so I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this charming and comfortable hotel. The staff is charming and of good service. Instant coffee and cold toast are free in the morning, with a fruit it was OK for me but I don’t care much for bkfast. There is a small fridge in the room, the wifi is OK. Dark curtains, quiet AC, good shower. Free bicycles. Not far from the well appointed municipal beach. Book the excursion on the lake at the hotel, it is the same price as elsewhere and it leaves from a better part of the lake. and transport is included. Take it at 15h when the light is better and cooler. I recommend the La Playita and Los Aluxes restaurants as the Pizzeria on the square, the small one with the wood stove. Chetumal is worth the visit as the coast north of it where you will find plenty of good fish restaurants and beaches. Note that Bacalar is busy on weekends. Avoid Mahahual, not worth the long trip, nothing there but cruise ships, a skimpy beach and algae, much better to spend more days in Bacalar.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and clean and friendly. Great value.
7.5 Good
Pros: Rooms very very comfortable. Sky tv in the rooms. Nice staff.
Cons: The beach smells terrible because of the sargassum which isn’t the fault of the hotel but it is impossible to enjoy the beach there. Right next to the beach is a massive dumping ground for sargassum and it’s all rotting right there. The breakfast was also not great. Weak coffee and watered down juice and for the price of the room I would hope for a little better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: friendly staff, clean room & bathroom, comfy bed
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff very nice and helpful Facilities on the courtyard (some chaires, table, hamacs)
Cons: Too much noise during the night (animals, some peoples speak louder)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Price, free coffe corner

Pros: The hotel it's just amazing. We didn't want to leave. The best vibe, view and comfortable rooms. We are definitely going back again! I'd just suggest the hotel to be open for dinners as well, it's hard to leave even to have dinner outside. lol
Cons: nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful, the pool is a great idea if you are not that into swimming. The rooms are nice and kept clean, breackfast is a great plus to start the day. The equipment and tours are accesible. If you want to spend a nice vacation you should definitely visit Casa bakal
Cons: Paddle boards shouldn't be charged, maybe ask for a safe deposit but it would be better to have free activities to promote consumption at the hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place and view from the rooms and a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff was always helpful making sure you had a perfect stay :-) Good food and drinks in snack bar.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Staff & location
Cons: Location and view
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous! The water sports division is very knowledgeable and professional. I learned how to paddle board. Thank you Lalo! This allowed me to see the sunrise while paddle boarding every morning. This was amazing. A life changer for me. I now want to continue paddle boarding! I experienced a healing Yanzu water massage which was transformative. The masseuse who did this was really wonderful. I also went on a gorgeous boat ride in their amazing sailboat. The captain was super experienced and knowledgeable. The entire staff was very helpful and attentive. The hotel room itself was chic and very comfortable. I highly recommend this place.
Cons: Loved everything!
7.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful situated by the lagoon, a lot of facilities (free) available and options for trips around the lagoon, nice bar facilities with good snacks.
Cons: Poor value for money if you choose for the bungalow with lagoon view; nice bungalow with an amazing view, but verry small beds and no extra's in comparison with the standard rooms (but you pay a lot more). Breakfast is very basic. Distance to the center of Bacalar is not realy nearby (for walking of by bike).
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff were mostly friendly and helpful. The location on the lake is absolutely stunning. The kayaks and bikes are free to use. The sun lounge area is well maintained. The outdoor section is amazing, really beautiful. You should stay there for the views, the water and the watersports but dont pay more than the cost of a double room as the rooms aren't special.
Cons: The room was tiny. The AC dripped constantly so I had to place the bin underneath to catch the water. The dripping noise throughout the night is enough to drive anyone mad but without the AC on it's a sauna! The pillows were lumpy and the sheet didnt tuck under the mattress so kept coming off. Breakfast didnt start until 8 but our shuttle to Belize left at 7.30, given that many people use Bacalar as a stop en route to Belize, I would have thought they'd offer an earlier time. Food stops being served at 6pm which we were not told and the bar shut at 8pm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location location location! Was perfect!
5.5 Okay
Pros: Nice location with great view on the lake, good facilities.
Cons: Terrible room... literally in the living room... worst when people watch a football game until midnight!! Don't accept Room No. 2!!!

9.3 Excellent
Pros: We just spent one night on our way South. We were generally satisfied with the hotel, the wifi was one of the best/strongest signal during our trip.
Cons: There were stains on the sheets. It’s a bit far from the center, I was uneasy walking there and back in the dark, by car it should be fine.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Price vs. Quality
Cons: Small bed
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and accommodating. On our arrival, they even booked us a last-minute boat tour of the lake, which was excellent. Our room adjacent to the lobby was super-clean and quiet. Although the room was small, we appreciated the cozy attractive seating in the lobby, the complementary coffee, and the in-room mini refrigerator. We consider Hotel Roble in Bacalar to be a great value for what we paid.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room, clean and nicely decorated. Staff is very friendly. Free coffee in hallway. Some parking space on hotel grounds but more in the street. Near Lavanderia (cheap and fast).

8.3 Excellent
Pros: It's a nice hotel. The sefe and ac were working good. The bed was really big and comfortable.

6.8 Good
Pros: Clean ans big room, good airconditioning and bathroom

Cons: A few more hooks to hang things would be good.
6.8 Good
Pros: Nice area to sit outside on a terrace. Free coffee and some cookies were available on the grouns floor.
Cons: The staff seemed rather uninterested and not very knowledgeable about Bacalar and the surroundings. The light above the wash basin was way too dim. The AC was very noisy and the views from the room were directly into the neighbour's property.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The room is pretty and we have a safe box! The staff is extremely kind and we had coffee, water, and cookies for free!
Cons: A 30-minute walk from ADO bus station A 15-minute walk from the center

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location. We caught our pre booked shuttle Marlin Espadas straight across the road to Belize this was our pickup point so very handy!
Cons: The staff could be more friendly and helpful
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was mentioned with view on laguna, it's not true anymore, due to new building construction. Terrace is also difficult to use with construction noise and dust. To be honest, view is awful. But location is central on zócalo. Comfy beds, clean. The crockery should be changed, in very bad condition. Good stay, we would appreciate a better ratio quality price...for us, it was the most expensive room in all Mexico, in a 1 month stay all over the country.

Pros: The room had enough space for two backpacks. The bed was very comfortable. There is also a kitchen to cook your own things. The hotel is located near the lagoon. Only 5 minutes to walk.
Cons: In the morning it was very loud because of the birds in the park nearby. (But it's not a fault of the hotel ;) )

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Super clean and big place. Perfect for a couple. Nice owners
Cons: Smelly bathroom (because of the pipes not the cleanliness) and noisy (next to a busy road and renovations around). Still had a great time there
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and almost new bungalow, privat small garden, so friendly and helpfull familly.
Cons: A little bit far from center but it's not big problem. 20min quiet walk from center. To the shop 6min, to the first restaurants 12 min.
7.0 Good
Pros: The campana was cute, the bathroom clean with plenty of water, the outside area with the chairs and the hammock was very nice to chill. The owners offered us coffee, tea and bottles of water plus they gave us a lift to the center in the evening which was very much appreciated.
Cons: Beside our cabana there was building material left aside. The location of the cabanas is near the main road and you could hear the tracks passing by especially late at night and early in the morning, plus it is located very far from the center and it felt unsafe to go back especially after dark. The wifi.... just don't count on it. They definitely need a faster connection and a wifi repeater. No mini markets are near and there's no fridge you can store something to drink or eat. Another thing was that we mostly interacted by translating english to spanish on google app, because the lady had no knowledge of the English language.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This stay is just a couple of blocks from the lake. Cabanas have solidly built walls and thatched roofs, with additional net inside, as protection. We had AC, fan, smart TV and hammock. All very comfortable, clean and quiet. Our cabana was situated at the end of the garden, beneath a large tree, with chairs and lights so we could sit outside in the evening. The hosts are so nice! They provided us with coffee, pan dulce and biscuits for breakfast. Warmly recommend this place.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: - the staff was really friendly - the complex is really nice with a beautiful garden - the bungalow was huge and clean
Cons: - little bit outside from the centre (25 pesos with the taxi to get there or 15-20min walk) - no english-speaking staff - the internet did not work well
6.8 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, own little house, peaceful environment.
Cons: Noise from the high way, bed quite small, bit far from bacalar Centre, hard to access by car due to one way street

7.0 Good
Pros: The room was very big and clean. The location could not be better. Will book this hotel again because of its superb location. Staff was ok, could leave our backpacks there until the evening and we were allowed to use the public bathroom to take a shower and change before heading to the bus station.
Cons: The hotel is very noisy, depending on the room you have. The first night we were woken up at 6am because our neighbor was making a loud phone call on speaker outside. We asked him to call somewhere else and 10 mins later their whole group was outside laughing and screaming and turning on loud music. We couldn’t sleep anymore because the noise was so loud as if we were there with them. They checked out that day, the next day we slept better. Besides, the electricity went out like 10 times a night. They had a generator right next to our door and that noise was even louder than our neighbors in the morning. We woke up every time the thing went on again for 30 mins. Also, there is a weird smell coming from the water of the sink. We didn’t want to wash our hands there or brush our teeth, we did that in the shower. All together, very basic amenities for the price you pay.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beds comfy. Location is awesome. Pricing excellent.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, off the main square but only a block away. Supermarket, smoothie shop, restaurant & fruit shop within metres of the hotel. Free little breakfast of fruit, cake & coffee. (wasn’t there on the last day when we really needed it before travelling
Cons: Bike hire...if you’re gonna charge the going rate for bike hire, you need to have decent bikes!! They are not. Communal fridge right outside our room window (move it to the wall area between rooms please)
5.8 Okay
Pros: room was clean. Hotel is Close to the Lagune and Restaurants.
Cons: not friendly personal. we had an issue with the air condition (water came out). we only got another room next day with a lot of discussions.
6.3 Good
Pros: Complimentary cake and banana was nice. Our first staff member experience was great when we checked in.
Cons: Other staff interactions were not very friendly. The room was dark and noisy with people knocking on our door at 3am. Not sure if that was staff or other guests. For the price, i expected a bit more, but perhaps bacalar is just expensive.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The rooms where clean and nice. The hotel is in the middle of bacalar and only 2 blocks from the laguna. The staff was very helpful and we even hired a kayak from them to paddle the laguna. They let us check out late so we could take a shower after kayaking, which was very convenient. You could take some snacks and coffee from the shared area.
Cons: The rooms are a bit outdated, but everything was working fine.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff who went out of their way to help us and clean rooms. Good location near the main square of Bacalar. We did a boat tour with the hotel and really enjoyed it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Easy to find location. Close to everything. Great restaurants and cafes near by. Very friendly people. Easy to check in. Clean, comfortable room & bed. Rooms stay nice & cool, I didn't even sleep with AC on. Plenty of hot water in shower. Enjoyed taking the boat tour they recommended, too (just know it's all in Spanish)!

The staff is suuper nice and the tour they offer was great. I'll definitely stay there again when o go back to bacalar.
Cons: They didn't have enough deck chairs.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Wow its just stunning! Bungalows and the lagoon are dreamy. Restaurant is nice.
Cons: No staff most of the day. Massage was mediocre. They promised us a packed breakfast as we had to leave early in the morning but they forgot. The road to get to the place really could use some taking care of, its so bumpy!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view was amazing! Great staff and very relaxing
Cons: From the main road to the Cabañas was a like rough but keep in mind its inside the jungle
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed this property for the swings over the water, the hammocks and lounge area over the lagoon. The bartenders made us amazing margaritas!! Each morning we would take out the kayaks and paddle along the shore... amazing!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Totally completed the experience of ecoadventure! The hotel is located in the jungle (5mins from downtown Bacalar) with private entry to the lagoon. Waking up to the sound of the birds of the region, and some other animals/bugs. Even with rain it was great!!! Staff always friendly and happy. Food was great too!
Cons: It is comprehensible that there would be a lot of mosquitos, do not forget your bug repelent!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a beautiful location - absolutely on the lake with boardwalks and bathing points out into the water. Didn’t use the kayaks but could have. Staff really helpful - kept the restaurant open just for us. Rooms well designed as cabins with mosquito needed beds, fans (The design would make air-conditioning impossible) and en-suite shower and loo - sort of open-air. The toilet is compostable - no flush and lots of sawdust but very well done. Idyllic!
Cons: Access is difficult - hard to find but also the roads are terrible - we only had an ordinary car and it was a bit hairy getting there. If you’ve got a 4x4 no worries. It would be s long walk from the main road - more than 1km of potholes and slopes
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The place is so beautiful!!!
Cons: The only thing ...the toilet....but we are in a ecological place.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Liked the location away from everything, food was really good really enjoyed the pizza, the cleaning of the room was great.
Cons: Some of the lights in the room did not work (Mayapan), wifi pretty poor in range.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful area with direct access to the lake, very friendly staff, everything seemed to be thoroughly thought through and close to nature
Cons: Prepare for mosquitos and a very bumpy road down to the hotel.
4.3 Okay
Pros: Ordered poached eggs, in Spanish and received hard sunny side up.
Cons: Toilets are actually a hole in the floor of the bathroom. There is a toilet seat on a cement base. Flushing consists of throwing a scoop of wood shavings into the hole. Yes, the stench is pretty bad.

6.8 Good
Pros: The restaurant has great breakfast. The view from the hotel pier is gorgeous. Also, the atmosphere - the huts, the hammocks, .. is lovely at Casa Lamat. Staff were all very nice.
Cons: The room was very small - much smaller than it looked on the pictures. Also be aware it's a couple of kilometers from Bacalar.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Eco-friendly, small but very special place. Well design with limited rooms on each sides of the property descending to the lagoon.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Awesome staff and food
Cons: Rooms are small
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfectly situated in an uncrowded and quiet section of Lago de Bacalar. Entrance to the property is off a dirt road just a short distance from the highway, and about a 15-20 min walk from downtown Bacalar. The entrance, front desk area and kitchen are situated on top of a small hill, with a private doc with kayaks, SUP, several hammocks, and a small rooftop deck at the bottom on the waterfront. The entire staff was very helpful and friendly and every single meal was delicious! The other guests were also very friendly and it was nice to interact with them during some of the meals and also while relaxing in the hammocks and swimming. Our little bungalow was very clean and had a nice view of the rest of the property and the lake below. The front desk staff was able to call taxis for us which was very convenient. Over our three night stay we made friends with a few taxi drivers and also had their numbers to call them on WhatsApp. We would definitely come back and stay here again because everyone was so sweet, the property was very clean and a you could feel a sense of seclusion from the rest of the world.
Cons: As with most places I’ve stayed in the tropics or close to the jungle, there are some gaps in some of the screens and roof sections where mosquitoes can get into the room. Fortunately they had a mosquito nets to protect against that but we still did get some bites. Also, there is some sort of a disco tech close by and on the weekend we could hear music being played late into the night. If you stay in one of the Bungalo’s close to the top of the property, you might faintly hear the music. My girlfriend slept through it fine but it woke me up a few times. Not a major dealbreaker at all though.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nicely located
Cons: *Wifi is weak and slow *Economy room is not a good Choice. Bad smell from toilets of the other rooms is dominant. *For me economy should be simple and not bad respectively hardly to accept. Overall the economy room is hostel level and therefore totally overpriced
5.0 Okay
Pros: The photos were very well taken so I decided to go and stay there one night it wasn’t cheap and when we arrived the rooms were smaller that I though and how they show them in the pictures, the washroom wasn’t clean as we expected, old furniture and very noisy, you can heard anything from all the people around you. The food and the people from the kitchen and reception were super nice and very helpful!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Relaxing oasis feel with beautiful plants The rooms are rustic but very comfortable and cosy and they a real jobs making the property eco friendly!
5.5 Okay
Pros: The excess to the lagoon was private and quiet.
Cons: Far from the town. The food at the hotel is more expensive and menu didn’t look that good. Also it is quite expensive for an “eco” hotel. In hindsight i think we should have booked somewhere else.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The best thing of the hotel is the idea of it.
Cons: The bedsheets were stained and dirty. The rooms are not properly illuminated, full with mosquitoes and even cockroaches. The location is good but the rent of kayaks and paddle boards are crazy when in other hotels are for free to take whenever you want. Really disappointed with the hotel.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: On the beach, in the green vegetation, ecofriendly
Cons: Puritan

8.3 Excellent (387 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Nido del Quetzal in Bacalar (Mario Villanueva Madrid), you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Lake Bacalar and Laguna Bacalar Ecological Park. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
6.8 Good
Pros: Nice location, close to the lagoon (2min walk), not that far from the center. Friendly and helpfull staff. Rooms are very clean. Breakfast is OK.
Cons: I was in the only room at ground level. Small room (14sq meters) filled with 2 queen sized beds. Very few space to move around. The only window opens on common space. There is only opaque curtains, so you have to choose between privacy or natural light. WiFi signal is really weak, almost unusable. Very noisy A/C (but working OK, BTW)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Tasty breakfast, very nice staff that helped us with every question we had. Had everything we needed. Very close to the lagoon. Nice wall paintings.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: very friendly staff and good breakfast. nice place with lots of plants and made with love. very close to a public pier at the lagoon.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was good, the bedroom was clean. Nice and helpful staff letting us using the kayak 1h30mins for free, and kind especially after I was beaten by a scorpion *be careful in the lagoon* Nice location, 5 mins walking from the lagoon.
Cons: The hotel is a bit old and our two beds weren't comfy at all. I and my partner decided to sleep on the two beds instead of sharing one as they were actually both small. The room wasn't big and the bathroom tiny, with the lavatory outside the bathroom, in the room. Lots of dogs barking in the night around the hotel, we didn't sleep well. A bit upset as we mainly booked this hotel to use the 1h free kayak but we had to take them to the lagoon ourselves walking (10 mins but still heavy) and we had to pay 200MXN ($10) each to access the lagoon / in other places is 50MXN! The staff didn't give any information on where to go in the lagoon and didn't have a clue about us going around, so we ended up paddling randomly, missing important stops as people weren't able to give any information on where to go. I would have rented the kayak somewhere else and this made me feel we paid a lot and the hotel is not even in front of the lagoon as it seems described on the profile. Breakfast could be a bit richer and with more options for the overall price. I wouldn't recommend it, there are other nicer and cheaper options in Bacalar.
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean. Good breakfast. Great A/C. Wonderful staff! Abigail (Abby) was so helpful!
Cons: Needs new bed linens, they are stained. Needs refrigerator. Room was very small.

Cons: Stayed in two different rooms. One had ceiling fan! Which was great! Other didn’t which meant we had to run the a/c. Be nice to have bedside lamps.

Pros: So peaceful and so quiet
Cons: Nothing!
6.8 Good
Pros: Nice bungalow with good shower. No airco though and the fan was noisy. Nice swim in the lake. The sandy drive there isnt that bad
Cons: Few power sockets, no airco and no decent light
7.5 Good
Pros: Use of the kayak on the lagoon was a big plus.
Cons: Did not like the use of styrofoam and plastic for the breakfast buffet. The place is in a reserve and being eco conscious should be a priority.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, well kept grounds and accomodations based on Mayan architecture in a pristine, remote location. The lagoon’s water is crystal clear. The accomodations are quaint, individual cabanas / casitas.
Cons: The 2.5 mile single lane road was a little rough getting to this unique site; but this minor detail ended up being a positive part of the adventure as we drove through the jungle, surprisingly interspersed with pineapple fields.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property is in an excellent location for relaxing time, but if you are´looking for more fun this is not the place to stay, after 7:00 pm there aren't a lot of activities to do.
Cons: The kitchen service is poor, you have very limited options for breakfast and as it far from the town, it is difficult to get out and get something to eat. In general the options and the food service is poor. Also I think it was expensive for what I got, but the property is indeed awesome.

Pros: Place was very beautiful, taken care of. Beautiful garden and amazing Bacalar lake to explore just by your feet. I wish we could have decide to stay for couple of days more. Staff was very friendly and very very helpful. It’s great to rent cayaks and just ecplore the lake. I absolutely loved it.
Cons: There are tourists groups from cruise ships coming in for some hours and I felt that my peaceful rest in the paradise was disturbed. We used that time to go into the lake, but I wish there would not be those amounts of turists coming in the resort.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff! They were always very helpful and friendly. They didn't mind that we arrived late. They still made dinner for us. The place is beautiful and calm! Perfect to relax with friends or family.

Pros: Not only was the atmosphere and view incredible, but we felt welcome as soon as we arrived. If you're looking for a genuine experience and a place off the grid but with all the comforts of home, definitely make this hotel a stop on your trip. The owner, Roberto, was very accommodating and kind. This place is incredible!

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room is very comfortable, paddle boards and kayaks are available to use at the lake, great staff.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The staff and the attention from them. They were very friendly.
Cons: We arrived with the expectation to come to a luxury place as it is announced. In fact the place is not finished as it is still under construction: The fitness center and spa are currently being built which means that you pass its building shell after the entrance which is actually worse than no building at all. The spa for the time being is an apartment equipped with a massage bench on the terrace where massage is offered… At one side of the compound an access path from the entrance to the restaurant is being paved. Alongside big filter basins for ecological filtering of wastewater are under construction. Everything will probably in the future be covered and separated with plants. Now it is “in progress” and open and doesn’t make the place too cozy. The mole (access to the lagoon) is still in planning. They started to install the pool bar so there was an open hole at the pool which did not make the place very attractive either. Also the pool water was not always kept very clean. The rooms are with many details under construction or reparation: In the bath rooms the actually nice floor was covered with remains of wall paint or glue and the illumination was not finalized. The outer wall of the bathroom is made of wood sticks which leave some sight into the bathroom from outside if illuminated. Behind these sticks illuminated dense plants shall block the view in the future. However neither plants nor lights have been installed. Instead an empty glass case with cables in the floor. Our neighbors had covered their outer bathroom wall with dozens of towels! Bottles with cleaning agents and cleaning cloth greeted inside our cupboard etc…. Maybe each item for itself nothing really bad but the mere overall quantity of “open items” does definitely not justify the high price. We talked to the manager about the price that we paid for a luxury hotel but that unfortunately it is not yet.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff are outstanding. They were incredible throughout our trip and especially when my partner fell ill and they helped us to the doctor and assisted us with what we need in the very late hours of the night. A special thank you to Alondra, Santos, Gyllian and Irving and the whole team. Highly recommend this property. The rooms were gorgeous and featured and infinity tub. Great ac. Awesome cleaning service. Brand new everything. Big flatscreen tv. Gorgeous shower. Good restaurant.
Cons: It is a bit away from the town but you can easily get a taxi there for 60-70 pesos. One other thing they could do is put some hammocks out on the water or a lounger on their docks so there is a place to enjoy the beautiful lake of seven colours. More a suggestion. Thank you for a great stay!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so so sweet and we just felt so welcome. The rooms are huge and was such a nice surprise. We had a massage at their spa which was excellent. the bar had some excellent cocktails too.
Cons: We didnt know that the place had just been finished and I think to be charged full price when everything isn't fully operational was a bit unecessary. There should be a snag period until things are fully up and running as there were a few snags. They did however deal with these quickly, it was just a bit of a mission sometimes.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The service from Alberto the bellboy, Manuel the guard, and Alondra, who were especially warm, helpful and attentive. The restaurant has AMAZING, Scrumptious food, and great service. The architecture is very unique and aesthetically pleasing.
Cons: Service at reception upon arrival was efficient but cold, graceless and dry; the reception staff obviously needs training. The rooms are fancy, but unfinished, with holes on the walls where you can see the ducts and filth. First time I entered the room the floor was dirty with dry mud. Lighting in the rooms is ridiculously confusing and really horrible, the architect did a great job with the structure of the buildings, but must've failed the lessons in illumination, there are no lights whatsoever in the bathroom in front of the mirror and sink, the automatic light in the toilet room goes on and off at will at all times, even in the middle of the night! And more than half the switches in the room are useless and serve no purpose at all. I stayed on a second floor with outside rustic stairs and absolutely no outside light to see at night, it is quite slippery when it rains and could be easy to fall. The hotel is still under construction and there's A LOT of noise all day long, even on weekends, electric saws, clanks and bangs all the time, not possible to relax. They offer complimentary Nespresso coffee, but only a couple of small complimentary bottles of water for your whole stay, so you have to pay for the water to drink your complimentary coffee, at the prices they charge this is absurd. There's not even a box of tissues in the room, want to blow your nose? Use toilet paper! This place feels like it is trying to be a HIGH END hotel (the prices certainly point to that), but probably managed by rookies and newbies who don't know enough about Hospitality in a luxury setting. It is lagoon front but definitely not in the nicest spot in the lagoon, no sand, all rocks. I'd say MIA BACALAR LUXURY RESORT AND SPA is a HIGH END WANNABE, and definitely NOT WORTH THE PRICE. I would not recommend it, and I would not stay there again.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place, beautiful architecture, perfect service. A great surprise!
Cons: Nothing.
