We actually canceled our plans for the afternoon so that we could enjoy sitting by the pool. We will definitely go back! Thanks for a great stay!

Cons: The setting of the bathroom is very innovative in concept and design but utterly inconvenient: It does not allow privacy - the sliding glass door to toilet cannot be fully shut as it slides back when closed and leaves a 3 cm opening.The 2 wash basins which I persume were installed to allow 2 people to wash simultaneously are each of the sizeof a Salad bowl. When in use water splashes all over the a big puddle outside the closet wash area. The water from the bath tub created a big puddle on the floor outside the closet making a big mass.

Cons: The Front Desk lady was not welcoming, she kept asking for the people that was staying in the room's ID, even after I paid for the room she didn't want to give me the WiFi pass word until I gave her the ID of people staying in the room. Also she wanted me to pay 11€ for parking when I parked outside by the door w/o a problem and no charge. Everytime I saw her she will remind me of the ID. I work in a 5 star hotel as a manager and the way she treat me wasn't hospitable at all.

The smell was unfortunately nauseating for me and they tried to cover this smell up with those fake air fresheners which for me is doubly yucky. Pros: Excellent location, although the cathedral bell can be a bit of pain, however, the beauty of the city and the overall atmosphere will definitely overcome that small inconvenient. Casa Piratas was a true gem, although a very old building, it was in perfect condition and the facilities were top-notch. Very quiet, cool and comfortable room, very spacious, with access to a splendid communal kitchen and 2 very nicely decorated bathrooms. Generous breakfast and the best coffee I have had in a very long time. The staff was also very helpful and friendly, especially MariLuz :) It has certainly exceeded my expectations and would definitely come back and recommend it warmly!! Great value for money, 10 out of 10, literally THE BEST HOSTEL I have ever stayed in. Well done team!!!

The staff were are free spirited people living the life in Cadiz and the decor of this place was just awesome. Google photos of this place right now and you'll see what I mean. I rented a surf board from them for 15 euros, which includes a wetsuit as well. To my knowledge this is the cheapest way to go surfing in Cadiz. There are also surf trips that you can go on with the staff as well. They also provide breakfast and a five euro dinner.

Cons: Woke up one morning with lots of red bites on my stomach from something during the night which looks like bed bug bites (but not sure)! Also we didn’t get told until after we booked that if you book a private room that you will be in a separate building to the rest of the hostel. I also didn’t like that there was no reception in this separate building as it didn’t feel as secure and I didn’t want to keep bothering the woman who volunteers/lives there about places to go to eat, sights to see, etc.

Cons: The bed was really uncomfortable and sank profoundly in the middle, we didn’t sleep well at all. There was a lot of noise at night from the plaza next to the Cathedral (understandable) and from the kitchen in the morning (not so reasonable as it was a member of staff that was talking loudly almost non-stop). Not the most relaxing breakfast.

Pros: We were entirely satisfied with this hotel. Excellent location for the old town - set in the pleasant, lively Plaza San Francisco. Our room was a good size and airy with a view over the Plaza. Plenty of storage for clothes. The bathroom was bigger than average and there was plenty of room for toiletries, which made a 5 night stay more comfortable. The standards of cleanliness in our room and the hotel at large were impeccable and all staff were pleasant - I liked the way the reception staff greeted you as you walked through the lobby. In some of the reviews I read before our stay the breakfasts were criticised, but we found them to be really good. There is a selection of fresh orange juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, tostas, croissants, good coffee, with jam, pates and what we liked, fresh tomato topping and olive oil. At the weekend there were also fresh pastries. The service was very pleasant also and it was a nice change from the usual buffet style. Overall we had a great time in Cadiz, which is a lovely city, and this was made more enjoyable by our choice of hotel. We would certainly like to repeat the experience!

We booked a double room with a balcony. The double bed actually came with a bunk on top (the only double bed option with a balcony) was not suitable to put two people in the double bed, so my husband slept on the top bunk, myself on the bottom. The balcony was not suitable to sit outside either- was more like a double window thing. The lights were on outside all night shining into the room. 73 euros could get you a lot more.

Cons: I suspect I had the smallest room in the building which is fine as I had paid for a single but there is small and there is small; it was so small that it felt like a cell (!). I think they could have been a bit more creative with that space (not having shutters which take up room space for example). The room, while not dirty, could have done with a lick of paint as could the inside of the cupboard. My fault - I should have booked a hotel.

Cons: During the day the main door stays wide open.... why??? All guests have/know the code to the door. It was hot in the place, but still.... For safety/security reasons, that door should remain closed. The "free parking" is about 1 km away -- not what we "expected" when being told there is "free parking". The parking was also SO VERY CROWDED; we were VERY LUCKY to have found a parking space in that lot, and due to that difficulty, we let our car stay there during our three day stay, and we went by foot everywhere. We hadn't "researched" enough about the city before we arrived. Our advice is : DO NOT come by car!! Very hot in the room, the fan was not very effective, and when we asked for another one, we were told "I will try to go buy another one".... Very noisy on the streets, and our room was on the first floor (which we did want), so we slept w the window open ( any other way would not have been possible) and w earplugs -- w/o earplugs we wouldn't have been able to sleep at all, I don't believe.... One bathroom on the street floor( where we were) has a shower w no partition so the whole bathroom floor gets very wet -- I saw it once w water coming out into the hallway... not good, of course. Could there be a better solution? The hot and cold water also seemed to be an issue ( shifting too much one way or the other when a person is showering), but now I am thinking it is a general "issue" in some areas of Spain, as I am now at another hostel, and it has the same issue. I can live w it :) -- happy to HAVE a shower! :)
