We had booked 2 rooms. One of the rooms ( the costlier one) was good. It had a balcony and the room were clean and big enough. This was honestly the worst hotel I stayed in Egypt. Maybe all the hotels in Cairo are similiar and maybe this was best in Cairo. Dunno. Booking.Com page mentions standard room and there is a clause saying (With Shower)... When I went they say its a room with Shower Only and the toilets are common. So I paid extra and took another room. I have made atleast a dozen bookins via booking.com and this was the first time I experience this. The costlier room was fine. But when I checked out the smaller room it was pathetic. Not having a toilet was the least of the issues. The room would be about 40-50 sq ft. No windows and stuffy. When we went for breakfast for anything other than the break, jam and coffee you had to pay extra.
Location and character of hotel Breakfast could have been alot better. We had to pay extra to have eggs. Also alot of service charges added to food menus
The atmosphere is something special, uncomparable. The whole hotel, including the staff feels 70 year old, in a good sense. A bit of old international Cairo.
Like nothing at all. We were staying at Zamelek and moved to downtown Cairo for a few days and what a waste of time and money Lift did not work, no hot water on two days. If you stay there wake up 20 minutes before showering because thats how long it takes to get hot water to the 3rd floor. Breakfast was poor. What a dump.
Great location and nice bar! Hotel was perfect for us, but we wanted to get a feel for the city. Not for everyone. Hotel needs much work but only in refinishing and not replacing. Should not lose the classic feel! This is a budget hotel in the city. Breakfast a little lacking.
The man at the reception desk was very helpful and offered good suggestions for dinner and activities. The hotel is old but charming. The room was not ready when we arrived.
The helpfulness of the staff..The interesting ambience. The immediate surrounds and the constant noise throughout the night
nice bar needs a clean. room was charmless and needs a good paint
My friend and I stayed 4 night in this hotel and on the way to the airport to come back, we thought that we're right with our choice. Windsor hotel is unique in the world. We tasted tour arrangement, breakfast, bar services and feel satisfactorily with its. Just some small things disappointed us but anyway its not influences to our inspiration during stay. Arrange a guide who holds concurrently a driver in the trip to Alexandria and he is a big disappointment. He even doesn't know where the Lighthouse Pharos is. His name is Said with a mini van. The second is taxi to the airport, we paid 65 LE (normal price for white-cab taxi) but in fact, the hotel reserves a black taxi for us (very old, noise, no AC, etc.)
old style look not much hot water or sound proofing
The Hotel is right in the middle of things... Very noisy, buzzing almost 24 hours a day. Comfort is okay. If you want to be in the think of Cairo, and aren't overly concerned about being pampered, this is the place to be. Hotel staff very inflexible about check out time... Wouldn't even ask the manager if it was possible.
In the city centre. Nice hotel with nice staff. Felt very comfortable there.
Good value for the price; difficult to find a better value hotel in downtown Cairo. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, even when I was stressed out. Historic building; visually pleasing. Noise from the streets is inescapable, regardless of which side of the hotel your room is on. Cleaning standards are lax. WiFi does not quite reach some rooms.
Nothing, it was awful, we arrived with our two sons so late after flight from UK that we had to stay first night, but checked out immediately next morning into a better hotel. Ver, very disappointed - my husband was totally stressed out by it. It was written up in my English Egypt Tourist Book as "good for nostalgic souls, this old fashioned downtown hotel has a range of rooms in various states of renovation and size but all with plenty of character...." It was labeled as budget, but I would never again stay in a budget hotel in Egypt. We knew we would be busy sightseeing most of the time for our two days so I had only wanted a base, but this place was totally unacceptable. Should be called a hostel, think they use one floor of a big building. Look of place from outside and reception uninspiring.Taken in an antiquated lift then walked along long bare corridor. Rooms, though fairly big very bare with horrible old furniture, grotty towels laid out. Pillows and beds like bricks, and the electricity was the worse, wires sticking out of the wall all over the place. Light in bathroom didn't work and honestly, I thought we were going to witness the electrocution of man who kept twiddling with a suspended bulb and wires with the light flashing on and off. Next room no better. Bathroom dirty looking, loo unflushed. Did not want to touch anything. Used babywipes. Didnt undress. No way tried food. Don't stay!
nice location, friendly staff and good value for the room breakfast was rather sparse
Good location and clean. Very nice staff as well. Nobody tried to sell tours, so no hassling at all, but if asked they were very helpful with information. Very nice with rooftop cafeteria. Always warm water, and always water! Good with a/c in all rooms. The rooms toward the big street noisy, but they are nice anyway. Bring earplugs or ask for a room towards the side street.
The roof top restaurant offers free dinner. And the view from the restaurant is very good.
Hotel was just okay, especially for that price. We did not go for breakfast, so we can't judge it. Shower was dripping, low standard in general
half board option was nice, meal choices however were slim, nice view from the balcony and the creaky old elevators worked just fine, dinners were in the roof top room which again had nice atmosphere even if you had to eat off of a coffee table the guest room floor had a hole and some weak boards in it
very cheap, clean hotel. breakfast was not very good.
reasnable, centre of cairo, noisy from road traffic no
We are satisfied with the hotel. Although the price was very low, the room was large enough for 2 people and we liked the atmosphere of the ancient building. Good location. Breakfast was simple - bread, egg and tea were served. Staff was good at English, very friendly and always helpful. For example, when we were running out of time and really had to hurry to the airport, the guy at the front desk came out, and picked up a taxi for us in front of the hotel. We were very thankful for their hospitality. Shower was not hot...but could be nice for cooling down sun-tanned skin.
Everything was great,we enjoyed our stay there.our room was upperfloor with a nice balcony.People running the place are nice and friendly,we booked with them 1 night luxor tour and was perfect. They have 2 sweety cats and small fish aquarium gave homely feeling for the african hostel. Better to bring your own towel with you, they offer towel but not that big!
Hostel was located in the center of Cairo, near to shops, restaurants, metro. Good place to meet spirit of the city. Very small bathroom
The hostel was perfect for saving money and 2 or 3 nights in cairo. They offer main services we need. Our room was huge and clean.Staff was great and more than friendly,no pushing for tours at all and they gave us all posibilities after we refused tours.
The staff was the best, very friendly and helpful. The hostel itself located in the quite part of downtown,no noisy!bathrooms are average..so many tourists come here,so easier to share some people with tours with cheaper prices.Wifi inside my room was great option. they dont have meals except breakfast, but so many restaurants are nearby.
Our double room was large and the decor of the hotel was quite fun. Checking in very late at night was not a problem, and they helped with airport runs. The beds were very old and soft
We felt realy like home.Location is the best, our room was spacious with homely nice color.Free Wifi was super.Staff so friendly,no pushing for tours.Managers always setting there handle everything with a smile. Taxi driver wanted to take us another place pretending that he didnt hear about the african hostel.Be sure also because you will meet a lot of touts in the street.
The staff is the best in egypt, very honest and informative.Rooms are clean and the hostel in general looks like a home(not place for buisness) and the open buffet in the morning is great.
The staff was very helpfull all time. We can leave our baggage after checking out for free. Next time I will choose this hostel again. There were mosquitos in the room.
We liked it here very much!
location near metro station, room size value for money, hotel staff friendly room changed & extra charges, building look scary & nothing to view, furniture too old, bed sheet not clean, can see cockroaches inside cupboard & table :-(
The facilities that they have provided in a small budget, is really execellent.
Staff was Co-operative Staff is very puctual for check-out time.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooftop resturant was excellent and the food was great. Both the lady during the day and the gentleman at night in the resturant were very helpful and kind. I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel and would stay there again with pleasure. The location in downtown was perfect to do the touristy things and I always felt safe in the area.
