Carmel River Inn is located firmly in Carmel, California, and offers two different kinds of accommodation experiences with their 23 cottages, or 19 guestrooms. The inn is great for outdoor enthusiasts as it sits on 10 acres which have forests, gardens, and meadows – offering recreational activities including kayaking, biking, running and not too far away lies the scenic coastlines of Monterey Beach where guests can go swimming, fishing, and surfing and observe stunning waterfalls and cliffs. Lots of golf courses and wineries also exist in the area, including infamous Pebble Beach which is a favorite of PGA and amateur golfers.
The cottages at Carmel River Inn differ as there's a 2 bedroom, studio with kitchenette, as well as a studio option. Depending on which option is selected, the cottages are mostly pet-friendly, have gas or wood burning fireplaces, 32” LCD TVs, pine log furniture and all have access to an outdoor swimming pool. The inn guestrooms offer either a king or two double beds, a small refrigerator, iron and ironing board, coffeemaker, hairdryer and much like the cottages, also has outdoor swimming pool access for guests.
The inn offers a heated pool, complimentary Wi-Fi access, free parking and the inn guestrooms, cottages, and the property grounds are all accessible for those living with disabilities.
Close by Carmel Beach and Monterey Beach are ranked as being top 10 beaches in all of California for dogs, and there is no leash law so they can run and play as they please. Carmel River Inn caters towards pets and pet owners with two washing stations, a pet blanket, and lots of grassy areas to frolic in.

Pros. Enjoyed Carmel River Inn! The cottages are fun & private for dog lovers. Perfect location for Poodle day 2017! The front desk staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The cleaning staff are also friendly and fast. Definitely will stay again!
Cons. Stayed in cottage 17 is a tight squeeze. It's not quite updated like some of the other cottages reviewed. Cottage 17 needs some work. It gets super hot from the sun, so a blackout shade & A/C or fan on site is mandatory. (A fan is available upon request). Carpet is torn and old and needs replacing and the shower is very tight like a phone booth.
Pros. Great location, cute B&B-like quality
Cons. NO AC!! On a 100 degree weather, but no notice at all to guests beforehand OR at check in!! Smells like dog (it's dog friendly, another surprise!) I love dogs, but like, that needs to be stated upfront - and the rooms better never smell like other guests pets. Also, the guest next door left their poor pup alone in the room and the dog would not stop hauling (at 7:30am! On a Saturday) - I know that's not really on the hotel, but maybe tell guests to not leave dogs unattended in their room? Oh and again, also be VERY upfront about how pet friendly you're hotel is so that all guests are aware before booking.
Pros. Location. Friendly staff.
Cons. Facility was old. Not very private. Stayed in main hotel, not the cottages.
