Cozy hotel in a cute little town by the sea. Free wifi and (small) parking. Restaurant was closed.
The hotel has up to date decoration and facilities. The breakfast was good and well presented We had concerns about plumbing noises from adjacent rooms
From the moment you walk in you are treated with friendly and helpful staff, the room we had was clean and just as expected(as in the photo on web page). The overall feel of this hotel was laidback and unfussed with the added bonus of no childern running riot at any of the 3 pools.Breakfast was a delight with a wide range of breakfast goodies any any amount of coffee- would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone...
Excellent room, good size with balcony. Super breakfast. Plenty of space to mooch in the hotel and gardens. Small pool area but had no problem with finding a sunbed. Helpful staff. Walking distance to beach and restaurants etc Parking a bit 'fraught', but is off street which is good as pretty limited in the area.
pleasant staff most helpful would definatly recommend, great location close walk to sea and restaurants
Nice location, quiet, very clean, real relaxation A bit poor breakfast (no vegetables and fruits)
Location was excellent, very near shops and restaurants. Staff and owners very helpful.
very pleasant stuff, good restaurant, the hotel is not far from the see I would renew the design of the room
We liked the location of the hotel which was a block from the beach and a block from the main piazza. Parking was included. Breakfast was very good. There was an excellent restaurant near by in the Grand Hotel Parisi. When booking we were not told the room would be in an annexed building 2 doors away from the hotel. The room was on a third floor with no lift. Small and poorly supplied the room was not comfortable. The bathroom was so small one could not turn in the shower. I would not have booked the room if I had known this before hand.
Good proximity to transport and town. Poor air-conditioning and breakfast was average. Staff were very dour, apart from the owners who were very friendly and helpful. We're not sure if this is normal in this particular town though...
The hotel was lovely and the indoor swimming pool was fabulous. Difficult to locate. Should have signage on main road.,
The staff was great, the style was classic old-style and the indoor pool was excellent. The room was cramped but had a nice balcony that gave us some extra room.
Uncrowded, good pool facilities.
very friendly staff
It was peaceful and the owner/staff are great and will help with anything! Breakfast is adequate and we would be staying there again if in that area. it was a great stay!!! some reviews are stating the hotel is dated/old fashion..well a lot of Italy is. it has traditions and that is good.it is a traditional family run hotel
Excellent room quality and comfort. Very limited facilities - no bar, restaurant not corresponding to hotel level.
Restaurant food quality, presentation and service; hotel staff availability and kindness Room to cold
free coffee bar, very good breakfast
Easy to find, free parking, nice bed Paying for Wifi looks like an interesting concept, but how much value for money is it, if you only want to check your email? Furthermore, the minibar in the hotel room did not have any wine, beer or spirits. This I would have been willing to pay for!
Very professional. Smart, clean and sophisticated.
Good breakfast, nice room, quite, friendly service, good bed.
Nice comfy bed, clean and complimetary mini bar The 'complimentary' breakfast should be marked as continental as the lady refused to fill the hot breakfast up until all the dry hour old egg were finished. There was not enough food for the minimal guests staying at the hotel each day. I would rather pay than have rationed complimentary breakfast.
TV had 2 English Language channels The restaura was billed as 'gourmet' but in practice the food was quite ordinary. The receptionist displayed a curt and disinterested manner. WiFi was billed as 'available' but they insisted on cjarging 3euros for an hour. Then keeping us waiting to print out a code. Thus we were put off right from the first moment. Oddly there were free soft drinks in the mini-bar. It would br more custermer-friendly to off er a smile and announce that WiFi was unlimitted and free, and then charge for any minibar drinks if they are really so hard-up that they need an extra 3 euros per customer!
Modern room. Free minibar. Free drinks in lobby. Great restaurant. Very good breakfast buffet. Bathroom lacks privacy because of glass door.
modern look. one speaks english at the desk, not only italian.professional behaviour.
I liked the location, the sea view and the suite, not least the staff and the manager in particular
We arrived very late because the boat was 7 hours late but were so well and kindly received. We phoned the manager/owner? to warn him and he even gave us his home number in case we were lost and the night staff could not speak English. Actually the hotel is easy to find.
The location of the hotel and the kindness of the staff
The staff was very helpful and friendly, especially Roberto - manager of the hotel. The room and bath-room were clean and comfortable. The location is close to the beach and promenade. The hotel has free parking and lovely terrace for breakfast and dinner or evening drinks. There were fruits on breakfast and it was really good for me:) The air-condition was a little bit strange and we didn`t understood how to regulate the temperature, however we stayed only 1 night, so it didn`t disturbe us.
Friendly and helpful service especially from Roberto the hotel manager No
Beautiful spot , could walk to the Mediterranean and swim... lovely evening entrainment close by, romantic. convenient. Great food. Wireless access in the rooms would make it more business friendly.
Very quiet location while close to everything. We loved breakfasts in the umbrageous garden (though it would be nice to have more diverse breakfast menu, but it is common for Italian hotels at all). Excellent staff. Utterly friendly and helpful owner offering advice as to where to visit, etc. We booked a double room but he's given us a triple one, which was more spacious, for the same price. Bravo Roberto and thank you very much! Slightly overpriced, in our opinion, but it is Tuscany! The rooms and furniture look dated and surely need renovation, but in the whole the hotel is pleasant and cozy.
The manager Roberto was very friendly and was always keen to help. He even gave us a number for him for when he was out of the hotel. The breakfast was fine, as good as any other we had in other hotels on our trip. Great location, close to the beach. Much nicer than many of the towns further up the coast. Would definitely recommend the area. Extremely outdated interior, carpet on the doors and poor standard of maintenance in the bathroom (shower door broken so floor flooded when ever we used the shower). Shower head and soap stand also quite dirty with possible mould. Also smoking is allowed in the rooms which is fine if you are a smoker but if not it smells very strongly and all of the fabrics smell of smoke. The hotel badly needs a refit.
Excellent location, very pleasant hotel. Enjoyed breakfast on the terrace, as well as coffee and drinks later in the day. Attentive staff, with special thanks to the invariably helpful and most considerate manager, Roberto. n/a
Firstly, Roberto, on the front desk, was an absolute star! He was very welcoming, friendly and also available to give advice and directions for the local area. Very important to those not in the know! The hotel itself was clean and comfortable if a little dated. The location was good, a short walk from the town centre and train station. Its worth mentioning that all of the local beaches we went to were private. We ended up catching the bus to the spiagge bianche about 10mins away, a great free beautiful beach. A good stay nonetheless.
The location on that fabulous bay and the sea view bedroom and balcony is second to none. I would definitely return, as long as I could have one of those rooms. Dinner was excellant. Parking was great and free.
Beautiful location which was not not over developed. Castigleoncello is an upmarket Italian resort set amongst a pine tree forest, and offers everything you could wish for. The view from the room's balcony across the bay was to die for. The staff were very friendly It is only a minor point but the decor and furnishings within the room was dated and and the room itself was small
Awesome location great staff They should have an area open to residents where one can take a drink of an evening. The decor is tired.
Nice location. Very close to the beach and not far away from town. Great view from the room. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Excellent coffee! A very cosy hotel. Castiglioncello is a beautiful place and we are definitely going back sometime. Got the impression that all rooms had a balcony. That is not the case. Nice food in the restaurant but the the dining area was old and not very pleasant.
wonderful view over the sea! small, but clean rooms distance to the train station (2 km). If you do not have rented a car you have to walk the distance with your luggage as there is no public transport or taxi available
Excellant restaurant, easy acces to private beach lovely sea views pleasant staff None
Friendly waitress in restaurant. Room had seaview One of the worst hotels ever experienced ! Stinking bathroom drains, horrendous bed cover making place look like doss house. Wall above bed decorated with photo of priest (could be put to great use by Private Eye magazine for a feature on sex perverts). The place was old and worn out, damp and gloomy.Walls cracking quite clearly, especially from our (shared)terrace. Worst of all the hotel beach was not included in the price...we were told to swim off the rocks below hotel if we wanted free access to sea. With the stink of sewage in the room it was off-putting to even think about swimming below the hotel. The smell was even worse in the morning and it was like entering a room where someone had a very bad "holiday tummy" Hotel was situated on extremely busy and dangerous road with no other way to escape and explore the area.As parking was very limited,(we got last place on arrival at 4.30pm),we could not consider going back out in car.The hotel had its own(expensive) restaurant in same ancient style...one of the senior staff seemed unhappy that we were only ordering a fish course plus separate portions of vegetables, which were miniscule but very expensive. The bread was dry and looked like it had witnessed several weeks.Breakfast was obviously done on the cheap: "nectar" style juice ie. sugar and water with a hint of fruit, warmed-up cheap croissant and "ofF" butter. The hundreds of mini portions of jam reminded me of travels in Romania thirty years ago when jam was all they had in the shops. Breakfast was included in the rate paid via on-line booking, however this place was well over-priced. Should not have cost more than 50 euros. Another thing to note is that the receptionist wanted both passports to keep at the desk. I was very unhappy about this. As it happened mine was not available on arrival, and I quietly forgot to leave the room and take it to the girl. It is one thing to look and copy the passport number, but quite another to keep it on an open shelf. The girl showed us our room and left the front desk unattended: thus leaving numerous very valuable eu passports open to anyone to sell on the black market. This establishment should be taken to task by the hotel authorities for continuing this out-dated practice. They seemed to be completely oblivious to the risk in holding passports in such a manner. Also note that this was the only hotel to take the full payment several weeks before we arrived...therefore they could hardly argue that they wanted it in case you escaped and didn't pay for the room when you realised what a horrendous dump it was. Location was also noisy due to a railway line , next to the busy road. Trains went by every few minutes and continued through the night.Would rate it zero out of ten, including allowance of three points for friendly staff.
This hotel locates in a very beautiful place and has such a nice view from the terrace or balcony. It was so nice to fall a sleep listening the sounds of the sea. There is a russian speaking girl at the reception. We had a very small quite simple room and bathroom, and very poor breakfast. It seems to us that the price is quite high for such hotel, but the view was really perfect!
Closeness to the sea
Excellent restaurant menu for dinner, sea views made it worth the price. Limited parking near hotel
It was clean comfortable, the bedrooms were light and airy and we had a balcony overlooking the sea. We were disappointed that we could not use the hotel sun terrace due to renovations particularly as it was so hot.
The sea view is excellent. Falling asleep to the waves was nice. The swimming area in the sea is "domesticated-wild", which is nice. The restaurant food was a mix of good and bad. Eggs ran out early. Most food was too salty or too sweet - seemed like a characteristic carried over (and amplifiied) in the US. Restaurant next door would not serve tourists. Take your pocket Italian language book. You will need it.
Location was nice. The restaurant was super. Floors in our room were filthy. Trash was not taken out for two days. Air conditioning did not work. Internet did not work.
The hotel staff was very helpful to me.
Some rooms have a beautiful view. The room was big and clean. Restaurant with great location and view plus good service and good food. Reception staff was less than friendly and helpful. I would fire them right away. No free Wifi or Internet access. Design of the hotel most be more than 30 years old and would need a re-fresh (renovation)
Nice private bay and great food. We booked a room with sea view balcony, but the girl at reception sent us to a back room. However, they sorted it out without too much unpleasantness :)
The room with its en-suite bathroom was good, generous in size, spotlessly clean and everything worked. The huge double bed was comfortable. All of the hotel and restaurant staff were, without exception, helpful and charming. The restaurant was good, large, clean and a pleasant ambience and the terrace overlooking the sea is a delight on a warm sunny evening. The menu and wine list were rather limited but adequate and the food was nicely cooked and presented. The Bagni (Lido) is really well designed and managed giving safe, life-guarded sea swimming, plenty of sun bathing space all serviced by a really good bar-cafe open all day. This is a really nice hotel.
Services in restaurant. Waiting for a table at breakfast.......when we had dinner the were forgotten us.......
location and nature time stoped in this hotel, ...need lots of renovations and modifications to be up to date!
Very good value for money. The Beach
The hotel has been completely renovated, they do have an elevator. Our room was spacious, very clean, excellent modern bathroom, comfortable bed, and had a nice balcony over looking the harbor with it's fishing boats. We had booked for using their parking garage for a small fee, but opted to park out front of the hotel (no charge) since it was way too tight to get our car through the opening area of the garage. Finally, their restaurant was a good choice since we were not wanting to venture out into the city.
Location (very close to the port - thats what we needed) Indifference of receptionist
We liked the courteous staff and the great location of the hotel. It was very easy to find our way around the city. While the bathrooms were extremely nice and updated, perhaps the room itself could use some modernization.
Good location, fairly small rooms, mediocre quality of expensive restaurant
Clean friendly and well situated
selection of rooms and the evening snaks
friendly people very much traffic in front of the hotel during the night
Pleasent situated, exellent restaurant with fish specialitys, very near haerbor, reserved room was not to our expectations, but was changed on our request imidiatly
Very friendly & helpful people, excellent location, nice decor, beautiful building & view
Vicinity to the port and ferry services to the island. Rooms are comfortable but noisy. Rooms overlooking the sea are very noisy (main road).
The location and the fact that the hotel was difficult to find. The streets getting to this hotel were narrow, just large enough for 1 car the drive getting to this hotel was so difficult I had planned to stay 2 nights but decided it was just too difficult to navigate the narrow streets to this hotel that I cancelled the second night and found a hotel that was easier to get to.
The view, the atmosphere.
Ocean views A couple of computer terminals would be handy
For one night it is ok, I would not prefer to stay there longer Hotel was hard to find, room was very small, during the summermonths they also run a restaurant, the food is good but the waiters are totally untrained, some of them rude and unfriendly and we waited 1,5 hours for our food; if you have no car, do not choose this hotel
Excellent hotel, very quiet location and beautiful view, very good staff, excellent confort. Hotel La Vedetta is a magnificent base for explore Tuscany. Free parking place!
Terrific views from room windows; top of the hill with great breeze; good breakfast on the terrace Very difficult to find; girl at the reception desk could have been much friendlier & more helpful.
Wifi access should be included into room price.
The reception welcome , staff in general were very helpful ,spoke good english, the size of the superior bedroom with fantastic views. Car parking was sometimes difficult due to size of car park, however parking was available on street close by.
nothing bed smell inside and outside the hotel, poor breakfast
It is near by the port no
A stopover on a long road trip from Bellagio to Rome. Dinner and Breakfast sufficed. Staff pleasant and accommodating. Some English but did not really understand how stressed we were when we arrived. Not Their fault! We could not find it- not in Livorno and the '25' street no did not register on GPS.Took us to a Hotel of same name 35 kms and 3hours out of our way. Hotel is actually in Stagno, in the industrial area next to McDonalds- we only found it with the help of some Livorno residents in a bar, who with the help of sign language rang directory assistance(not in Livorno phone book) and then the hotel.
Proximity to the port and highway. Reception staff very welcoming. A better choice could be offered for breakfast.
Quite nearby to the ferry port if you are by car. This is in my opinion the only reason why one should book this hotel.
vicinity to the port
The receptionist was very friendly, polite, efficient and spoke good English. The hotel was air conditioned and nicely decorated and furnished. The bar area was attractive but unattended. Otherwise we might have had a drink there.Likewise the restaurant was completely empty of guests and staff. We went to the nearby Macdonalds to get something to eat. Entry to the hotel from the far side of the road was difficult.
There is nothing good to say about this property. The hotel add does not provide correct information. We chose the hotel for the fact that it offered free wired internet in the room. This facility does not exist. The staff are not helpful and furthermore are incompetent.
on a main road next to a petrol station and mcdonalds this is near the port and an ideal stopover but no other reason. good reasonably priced food in eve but breakfast certainly not 4 star! a little souless, everyone appeaerd to be there as a stopover before getting early morning boat, not really worthy 4 star def only 2. Address on booking.com not correct when entered into sat nav took ages to find only after calling hotel,
Everyone were nice. And we really enjoy the hotel food and the prices. The most inportat thing was that evryone could speak english. Kind of bad shower and the bathroom door. And also the parking lot was to small.
Beatiful, un-crowded pools! Service at restaurant during dinner very slow. may have just been understaffed while we were there.
felt as though i was spoiling myself
This is a more than 100 years old family run hotel with an excellent atmosphere. Everyone from the manager to the maid is very friendly, and we really felt at home. They always try to be helpful. The food is excellent, and the view is just stunning. We have already recommended the hotel to family and friends. We hope to come back some day. The hotel needs some paint here and there.
Excellent location, very friendly staff, and probably the best room in the hotel with balcony overlooking the ocean. Very nicely decorated rooms. Food was brilliant.
Excellent location and very good for outside eating on the terrace. Access to a small rocky beach to view the sunset. Reasonably priced food. Difficult to find when travelling from the south. Lack of sign posting. Had to travel north of hotel , turn round - very difficult on a very busy road - and then saw sign posting.
The staff were very friendly and spoke good english. They tried to accomodate our needs and were able to provide breakfast early for a early leaving and we were able to check out the night before. Excellent food at the restaurant. We only stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer and get to know the hotel better. Very good ambience. They have been upgrading and parts are not finished yet. I hope to come back when it is all complete.
Seaside location is good though no beach, and swimming pool is pleasant. Very disappointing. The photos and description suggest a high-quality hotel. In practice this place is in a very poor state. Peeling paint, rusty radiators, open wiring everywhere. Avoid.
A wonderful view from the window. It’s possible to put additional beds in the room, which is comfortable for families with children. Friendly staff. The hotel is decorated in an ancient style. There are many wonderful tasty dishes with seafood and fish. There is no air-conditioner in the room (which could be considered as a minus), but it’s cool in the room even without it, for cool wind is blowing from the sea. There’s much greenery. It’s quiet. The sea is clear and warm. Free Wi-Fi in the hotel and on its territory. Free parking on the territory. Unfinished elements of the swimming pool: a bar and a hot whirlpool. Problems with the bathroom unit, constant smells of sewerage in the toilet. The beach is stony. It’s difficult to bathe in the sea, so you have to buy rubber shoes to enter the sea. We had to go to a sandy beach to a different place.
nice(ly located) swimming pool, friendly breakfast service small room for a family room, very small and substandard bathroom. This hotel is very seriously overpriced.
Room was clean and bathroom was immaculate with plenty of soap, shampoo. Room was nicely furnished with a firm comfortable bed and very nice light fixtures near bed. Noisy bar next door was only drawback. Noise abated by about 1:00am; early by Italian standards, but still a bit late for my taste.
Very nice place, house and staff ! Newly equipped room and bathroom, good bed. Very clean and comfortable.
Very romantic rooms, well equipped. Very friendly and helpfull staff.
Very nice and helpful staff. The room was small.
The staff is excellent and available 24 hours 7 days a week. They are friendly, informative and service oriented. The cleanest hotel. Very lovely and well kept. They take pride. The breakfast is a good start to the day and they are always consistent with their timing for everything. Worth more than 3 stars for sure. Everything was perfect.
The building was beautiful. My Friend asked for a beer from the bar downstairs to drink at the terras and was told to get it from his minibar. The room was smal but beautiful but there was this nasty stain in the toilet . The beach in front of the hotel was full with rocks and grafiti. There was no view from the hotel. The city centre was far away.
Hotel Gennarino is a family owned enterprise; we were made to feel extremely welcome. It is recently renovated and is absolutely beautiful! The location is an elegant residential area; the hotel is a magnificent private residence, facing the Naval Academy that is located on the beach. This area has been used by dignataries and royalty for vacations since Queen Victoria's time; she herself stayed at the H.G. It is just across the street from the strand for long oceanside walks. Breakfast lovely, including capuccino made to order. We were visiting friends in Livorno but H.G. would also be a great place to stay as a base from which to explore Tuscany. We will absolutely stay here again. Excellent value!
Great Hotel and even better Hosts! This is a very charming hotel and owned and family run. We really enjoyed the friendliness in providing recommendations and directions. Rated three star but after 3 weeks in Italy I would say it exceeded all the four stars we stayed at. If you are traveling here to enjoy the beach be sure to also book entry into one of the beach areas.
room was large and comfortable they have incorrectly entered their location on googlemaps to appear much closer to the sae/port than they really are - be warned!
localisation, general overview fine
Short distance from ferry to Corsica and possibility of parking in the garage. Due to early car ferry to Corsica we did not have the breakfast in hotel. It would be pleasant to have a possibility to take a package with us.
I feel cold in the night!!!!! The wall of the room it not paint. I feel cold in the night!!!!! The wall of the room it not paint.
Dependance at a beautiful location, great helpfull staff, good restaurant 3 of the 5 beds were roll-away in the attic where the temperature was unbreathable
ok. Good A/C. Basic Italian stuff. Breakfast was quite lame.
Cebtral location , easy to find and secure parking A bit dated
breakfast could have a bit more choice
Breakfast as lunch packet possible. To expensive for this type of room. parking site about 200m far from the hotel and no parking facilities in front of the hotel.
