Top tips for renting a car in Fuengirola

  • Fuengirola is situated on the picturesque Spanish Costa Del Sol. Exploring this popular coastline is easier when you hire a car. There are many beaches to enjoy. Marbella is just under 21 miles west of Fuengirola on the AP-7. This should take about half an hour to drive, depending on traffic, and Torremolinos is just under 12 miles northeast via the AP-7, about 20min in the car. There are some fantastic days out, all within driving distance. A trip up the mountain to white buildings of Mijas is about 4.5 miles up in the mountains via the A-387, and the city of Malaga is a short 21 miles northeast Fuengirola up the AP-7.
  • If you're flying to Malaga airport, getting a car hire in Fuengirola is easy. You'll find car hire desks on the Lower Ground Floor at Terminal 2 and the Ground Floor at Terminal 3. There are also many car hire companies that you can book through KAYAK to pick up and drop off at the airport.
  • Exploring the town and the region is a lot simpler with a GPS satellite navigation system. Not just for the longer trips up the mountain road but also for potting about the town of Fuengirola. When you are not used to the local roads, the GPS help tremendously, so make sure your car hire in Fuengirola is fitted with an active system. The town is a popular tourist destination, which means the roads are full of local drivers and visitors who are not confident on the roads. Take care to observe all the road signs, particularly ones for pedestrian crossings. A mix of happy visitors not paying attention and locals trying to get somewhere quickly can mean many people suddenly appearing on the road. Especially on the coast road.
  • Getting in and out of Fuengirola or any of the towns and cities nearby can take longer during rush hour. The busiest times are 08:00 to about 09:00 in the morning and from about 17:00 to 18:30. If you plan on going out in the evening for something to eat, remember in Spain the culture is to eat later when the air is cooler, so check opening times before you drive any distance. Market days can also be hectic. They run Tuesdays and Saturdays, opening at about 08:00 in the morning and closing around 15:00.
