Poor service and surprise additional costsCons: Rental price was only a 'base price' in which local taxes were added. In addition the car reserved was not available (they overbooked) and the upgrade to another car was not free. In the end more than double the price of the original rental agreement was demanded and the staff at the airport were not helpful or accommodating, borderline rude.

Hope all car rentals in Peru aren't this bad!Pros: The car worked!Cons: Clutch was set too low (had to push it down to the floor to engage) and breaks were too touchy. Made for a very uncomfortable ride. Felt ignored for nearly half an hour when trying to find someone to give us the car.

Bad costumer servicePros: ValueCons: When pickup they try to force you to buy insurance claiming is mandatory but is just optional. Cars are full of scratches and when you return the car they will try to find one not marked at the pickup to ask you for a tip. Be careful.

Your survey is broken. You need a "Does not apply" option.Pros: The survey is aesthetically pleasing.Cons: You're sending a survey to someone who cancelled their reservation.
Pros: The staff was extremely friendly and thorough.Cons: I understand the road restrictions with the odd/even numbered plates. We were told that we would have an odd numbered plate, which worked well for us because of the driving we needed to do on a particular day. However, they gave us an even numbered plate, which really messed up our day.

Very friendly staff, difficult to find drop-offPros: Friendly and honest staffCons: I had serious difficulty finding the location to drop off the car. In fact, it was closed although Alamo claims to be opened 24 hours. I managed to leave the car at the designated place and have the clerk at the desk arrange for the checkup. I did make my flight, but it was a stressful experience. The staff was really friendly.

Pros: the lack of communication with the avis office at the airport, well the office is not at the airport, is located at front of it, was a long walk and i was with my mother, she's 70 years old, the other big issue that i had was the i got the car insurance with you ( kayak and priceline ) and because of that they had to put a hold on my credit card of $5,000 because for them i didn't have insurance cause i was doing the insurance with you guys a third party. overall you shouldn't sell them like they are locate at the airport cause they don't and do something about the car insurance policy, really disappointed.

Didn’t have our car, and did nothing to fix it.Pros: Liked absolutely nothing. Avis customer service was no help. They said that it’s not really Avis in Peru, so they can’t do anything about it. So, nothing really good about it.Cons: When we arrived they took a few minutes, and told us that they didn’t have our car. Then they would do nothing about it. To top it off, they haven’t refunded our reservation, even though we had to go to another agency to get the SUV we needed. I ALWAYS rent through Enterprise, and I guess there is a reason. Avis was awful and absolutely no help. It was a bit more insulting since I had reserved the car seven months in advance. Don’t rent from Avis.

Paid twice the quoted price.Pros: Cleanliness and quick drop off.Cons: Last time with Avis. I had been quoted $44.50 USD for the rental. When I arrived at the airport for the pickup, they told me I'd have to pay $85.76 USD. I wasted about an hour trying to tell them that was unacceptable and had to pay almost double what I was quoted in the end.

Good company. Good value.Pros: The staff was friendly and courteous. The car performed well with no problems.Cons: Pick up took an Hour! Although this was due to their not being able to process American Express that day - not really their fault - it was their banks's. At least the representative provided options. The car was advertised on kayak as a manual transmission but I received an automatic ... which was a little disappointing as a was looking forward to driving a stick shift ... but probably it was more practical in the end. If you are thinking of driving in Lima ... the guidebooks are Right! DON'T DO IT! Craziest drivers Ever!... at least get the insurance. Thankfully nothing happened to us.

Overall great expiriencePros: The car was in almost perfect condition. With one small downside.Cons: We've booked the cheapest car but for it you should leave 5000$ frozen if you're not 26. We did not find that info on the web site. So we end up on more expensive rental. The car that we rented was very sensitive to noise. If the noise was really loud the alarm enabled. Otherwise car was perfect.

Worth the moneyPros: The car was comfortable, was relatively new and was somewhat economical.Cons: It takes the rep too long to do the paper work upon arrival to check in. Upon check out it takes them even longer to get to the car to receive it and then you have to go to the terminal to finish the whole process. It's too much of running around just for the process.

Poor service and dishonestPros: The customer service representative at the desk was very kind.Cons: Upon arriving I waited 4 hours for the representative to arrive at the airport since the desk was not in the airport. Then the contract number was changed, and no contract in English was available, therefore the third party insurance was made void, and extra insurance had to be purchased from Sixt directly. The insurance wall not full coverage. During the rental period the car was slightly damaged by a hit an run. The manager said, over the phone, that this happens all the time in Peru and the insurance won't pay for it, so the Sixt insurance was useless and the third party insurance could not be applied because the contract number was changed. The manager said the third party insurance would be honoured by Sixt, but finally it wasn't. The overall experience was very poor and the manager did not keep his word.

Wrong locationCons: SIXT car rental was not at the terminal as stated nor at the airport in general. Wasted time and nobody knew where to find this car rental agency.
Pros: I was grateful to be able to rent a car and in the end it worked out okay in spite of the risks/concerns about the rentalCons: They were only open after 8 PM (on Saturday) which was after we had to check-in. That meant we had to pay for parking until 8 PM ($8/hour) and leave it is a specific spot. Additionally, we were not there for the "inspection" to verify the condition of the card. On top of that, they charged us $15 for cleaning the car. Other factors were that, since we didn't pay for additional insurance, they placed a $4,500 hold on our credit card. The location is very hard to find if you don't arrive at the international terminal. In fact, you have to get escorted back to the counter.

Cons: Got there at noon to pick up our car as per our reservation was told that there were no cars available and that our car wasn’t being returned until 3pm. Didn’t get there til 4. Then the AC didn’t work. Worst rental experience I’ve ever had in any country.

Driving in Peru is unique and likely different from the conditions you have experienced elsewhere. The roads can be manic and drivers fight for every gap and angle. Understanding this before you arrive will hold you in good stead, so just be prepared to alter your driving nature and react to the new environment. The constant sound of car horns is also something you will get used to quickly -- a blast on the horn indicates that you are passing or approaching a nearby vehicle, rather than an indication of anger.
Lima has a population of almost 10 million and of course the city’s roads reflect this. Congestion is common throughout the majority of the day, with afternoon and evening periods the worst time to be driving. If possible, try to avoid driving after 3pm and look into finding secure parking where you can leave your car and have opportunity to explore the city via public transport and walking.
