Renting a car is the most comfortable and convenient way to tour the city of Greensboro, North Carolina, as well as other main destinations across the state. For a longer road trip, head to Charlotte, about 90 miles away.
All the big car rental agencies, including Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, and Hertz, can be found at Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO), which is about 12 miles from Greensboro’s city center. Fall is the best time to visit, as the weather is mostly dry after the typically wet spring and summer, which often see rainfall and thunderstorms. Although Greensboro has one of the best commute times in the country, the roads still get busier during rush hour, both in the morning (between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.) and in the evening (between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.). The area near the Coliseum experiences traffic jams every time there’s a big event. The Elm-Eugene stretch downtown and Gate City Boulevard can also get rather busy.
The state laws are strict regarding the safety of motorists on the road. For example, do not park on highways, especially when the visibility on the road is low. If the visibility is less than four hundred feet, you must keep your headlights on from sunrise to sunset or when using windshield wipers. Unfortunately, if you end up in an accident that involves personal injury, death, or property damage costing more than $1,000, you must report to the nearest law enforcement. If you don’t report, you could be prosecuted, and your driver’s license could be suspended.
State laws prevent drivers from texting while driving but allow them to speak on the phone. Nevertheless, we advise you not to use your phone while driving cheap car rentals in Greensboro. Additionally, you are permitted to turn right when the traffic lights indicate red. However, before you turn right, you must stop and confirm that the road is clear. If you encounter an emergency vehicle with flashing lights, kindly move over. Clear the way for it to pass and slow down.
As you cruise through the town, enjoying the scenic views and attractions, be aware of the locations that are considered dangerous. If you must drive Greensboro car rentals through the following routes, be careful: south of the city, U.S. 421, and U.S. 52 toward the mountains.

I reserved a car well in advance of my trip into GSO airport. When i arrived they had no cars, and there was a whole bunch of people ahead of me who also didn’t have a car for their reservations. I ultimately had to rent from another place at a much higher rate (since i didn’t book in advance). And to top it off, the woman working at Budget said this happens all the time there. Don’t rent from BUDGET! Especially at GSO.

Economy
I was supposed to get a KIA or some other economy car. The I got there they told me I had a choice of a Tesla (I know they are complicated to operate and recharge) or a very large Dodge extra-cab pickup with terrible gas mileage. I reluctantly chose the truck.
The car I picked up was completely on empty and smelled so badly of Marijuana that it made me sick by the time I returned the vehicle in Orlando. It was also very dirty.

We reserved a truck two weeks ahead of time to help my mother move. Hertz features trucks on its website, complete with pricing. We got a confirmation email with a confirmation number. A couple of days before the rental we got another email, confirming the reservation and reminding us to pick up the truck. We got to the rental office at the appointed time and was told "We have no trucks." I showed them the reservation confirmation and the associate and another she called over both insisted they had no trucks. The pad on the counter that showed various vehicles available even featured trucks. They shrugged and said there was nothing they could do. another associate, overhearing the conversation, came over and said "Let me see what I can do." He began calling other hertz locations in the area and finally found one 30 miles away that had just had a truck returned. He asked them to hold it for us and we drove the extra 30 miles to pick it up.

Made a reservation through kayak for a rental car, went to hertz to pick it up and staff was terribly rude and told me they have no cars and to call kayak to get a refund. Employee barely looked at me as he was too busy playing on his phone.

Staff at Fayetteville were terrible. Greensboro staff was knowledgeable, but first car was not cleaned and ended up with electrical issues and we had to return to Greensboro. Lost over 4 hours on road to backtrack. Next car was also not sealed after sanitizing and was 1,400 miles and 5 months overdue for oil change. THIRD car was fine. Terrible car rental experience.
Fast, efficient and friendly. Experience was personalized. Amazing desk attendants as well as the people encountered upon return. Couldn’t have been easier.

Upon arrival, the 2 employees were dealing with a difficult customer, but handled it very well! One of the employees, Brandon, waited on us and was very helpful and pleasant. He went to extra mile letting me sit in a couple of vehicles to see if there were any odors that aggravated my sensitivity to smells. Which was very important to me!! Thank you Brandon for making our experience pleasant!!!

Pros:
Not much. Stood waiting at the counter while the agent was engaged in a personal conversation with someone without a mask. She could not answer questions about the drop off, and could not provide a phone number for the drop off location. Was overcharged for a full tank of gas at the dropoff location, which I will dispute. Refused a paper receipt at dropoff and was told I would get an emailed receipt. When I questioned what the charge would be for fuel, the agent said he did not know. The emailed receipt shows a charge for a full tank of gas, when the tank was over half full. That charge will be disputed. I will try to avoid Thrifty in the future.
Cons:
More attentive staff, provided with better information.
I had a reservations and was told by Juan that the inventory is not updated on the website and they had no cars available. He lacked customer interpersonal skills and was not very welcoming to myself or other customers. Perhaps training is needed considering working with the public. Customer service goes a long way. As a result, I rented with Alamo.

For the first time in my life, I reserved a rental car, and when I arrived, they did not have one for me, and my business trip suffered greatly. They had no solution and did not even attempt to work with me in anyway.
