Cons: Car didn't have a USB port, so I couldn't plug in my phone to charge.
The agents were also required to me to give them an address of where I was staying. Normally that would've been fine since I usually stay in hotels, but I was staying at a friend's house. It is inappropriate to require me to give the address of someone who is not responsible for the car or the reservation - that would be giving a company someone's PII. I know that Alamo had instances of people stealing their cars, but they had my credit card information, home address, and my drivers license information. That should be plenty of information for a company.

Pros: The price was awesome!!!!!
Cons: The customer service at the Alamo desk leaves a lot to be desired; this is NOT common for this company.
I was given a Kia Optima. These cars do not drive well at all. This is my second Optima and I will not drive one again.

Clarity and full disclosure appreciated
Pros: Complimentary upgrade, comfortable car
Cons: We needed a one way rental to the Jax airport.mthe Alamo representative offered to gas refill at a low price per gallon. We told her we were only driving two hours but she did not clarify that we would be paint for a fill tank of gas. It was clear we would only need a quarter tank for the two hour drive. We were charged over $40 in fuel for a full tank which brought our total to $120 for a one day rental.

Car was fine; service was difficult
Pros: Price was perfect. Car was clean and well maintained.
Cons: When I went to rent, they expected me to have proof of address other than my license. Who carries around a utility bill with them? Particularly when they are flying. I was able to finally show them something online that was "acceptable," but they made me feel like they were doing me a favor by letting me use it. Nothing in the reservation process or on the Payless website says anything about needing to have more than one source of address verification.

The Ford Focus
Pros: The car itself was a great little car. I would even consider shopping for one when my current lease is up.
Cons: I had to wait about an hour for them to get me a car that I had reserved. I understand the weekend was crowded with golf tournaments in Hilton Head, but if you reserve a car, it should be there for you. I did not like the fact that the previous renters had smoked in the car and my wife got a headache as a result. And being charged for a full tank of gas when the tank had 1/3 of a tank left was not agreeable. Next time, I will fill the tank and be done with the extra fees the industry tacks on to a bill in an effort to make FREE money.

Cons: Reserved the car days ahead of time. When i showed up the man at the desk said bluntly "We dont have any economy cars in our fleet." I responded that i had made a reservation. "He repeated bluntly "we dont have any economy cars in our fleet, we overbooked." So I asked if he could give me a different car at the same rate and he responded very rudely "I'm not giving you anything." Guy was just plain rude and has no business working in the service industry in any form. So i went to the next rental booth over and was greeted with a smile and helped on my way. Good job overbooking. What exactly is a reservation for anyway Payless? Negative stars

Pros: At Savannah airport, rental office is in airport and you can just walk to cars. Nobody else in line when we arrived so everything was quick and efficient.

No cars available when we arrived 9pm Savannah air
Cons: We were told that there were no cars available (we had a reservation!!). Perhaps no cars would be available for 1.5 hours (that would make it 10:30pm). Referred us to Hertz where we were able to get a car, but of course for more money than our Payless reservation.

Pros: I like that the cars are on-site in Savannah. No need to take a shuttle which always adds so much time.
Cons: Drop off was closed on Sunday with no drop key box, I had to find an alternative drop location! This is comment on Charleston drop

Helpful staff and clean car
Pros: The staff at both the pickup dropoff locations were very courteous and helpful. While the pickup was delayed sure to high customer volume, the associate at the Savannah airport was great, and discounted customers for the inconvenience.
Cons: There was a long wait at the Savannah airport, but it's only because the company staffed one associate for that time period, it certainly wasn't the worker's fault. As mentioned, I was even discounted for the extra time.

Cons: charging $14 a day to add my husband as a driver is a rip off. I was using my own auto insurance, and accepting all the risk. How can they justify this? Enterprise does not charge any additional fees. I will certainly not be renting from Hertz in the future. In addition, the counter person was rude.

Cons: It was an older car with more mileage than I expected. There was a gatorade bottle (plastic) under the driver's seat.
Also, the "maintenance needed" light came on the dash with another 500 miles to go which was a bit unsettling.

Pros: The backseat had something sticky that had been spilled all over it. The windshield wipers barely worked. There was no wiper fluid is the tank so we had to stop to purchase some. We filled it up and it still would not work. We were traveling in snow so this made it very difficult to see at times. Who checks these cars before you rent them out?? This one clearly was not inspected.

Pros: The counter stuff was extremely friendly and nice.
Cons: Going out to pick up the car was a little confusing. And they just handed me the key and sent me on my way. They didn't walk around the car to point out the already there damage (as there was quite a bit) and that worries me as I better not be charged for damage that was already on the vehicle prior to me getting it.
