Pros: The ease of the rental. The rental agent at the desk (Kenya M.) was the brightest, bubbliest agent and is an excellent representative of Alamo. The vehicle was clean and road worthy. I really enjoyed driving it. I will use Alamo again.

Okay for the price, but a few minor glitches

Cons: Car didn't have a USB port, so I couldn't plug in my phone to charge.
The agents were also required to me to give them an address of where I was staying. Normally that would've been fine since I usually stay in hotels, but I was staying at a friend's house. It is inappropriate to require me to give the address of someone who is not responsible for the car or the reservation - that would be giving a company someone's PII. I know that Alamo had instances of people stealing their cars, but they had my credit card information, home address, and my drivers license information. That should be plenty of information for a company.

Clarity and full disclosure appreciated

Cons: We needed a one way rental to the Jax airport.mthe Alamo representative offered to gas refill at a low price per gallon. We told her we were only driving two hours but she did not clarify that we would be paint for a fill tank of gas. It was clear we would only need a quarter tank for the two hour drive. We were charged over $40 in fuel for a full tank which brought our total to $120 for a one day rental.

Happy in Savannah
Pros: It was very easy to pickup and drop of the car.It was a reasonable price, and It was a full size.It was a good experience.
Cons: They tried to up-sell us on a dozen extra services and neglected to mention the cost of those services. To make us buy their gasoline service, they lied about the price of gas outside the airport.
The bill ended up costing $70 more than I was quoted, and they were unable to explain some of the fees that appeared on the bill.

Pros: Price was perfect. Car was clean and well maintained.
Cons: When I went to rent, they expected me to have proof of address other than my license. Who carries around a utility bill with them? Particularly when they are flying. I was able to finally show them something online that was "acceptable," but they made me feel like they were doing me a favor by letting me use it. Nothing in the reservation process or on the Payless website says anything about needing to have more than one source of address verification.

Pros: The car itself was a great little car. I would even consider shopping for one when my current lease is up.
Cons: I had to wait about an hour for them to get me a car that I had reserved. I understand the weekend was crowded with golf tournaments in Hilton Head, but if you reserve a car, it should be there for you. I did not like the fact that the previous renters had smoked in the car and my wife got a headache as a result. And being charged for a full tank of gas when the tank had 1/3 of a tank left was not agreeable. Next time, I will fill the tank and be done with the extra fees the industry tacks on to a bill in an effort to make FREE money.

Cons: Reserved the car days ahead of time. When i showed up the man at the desk said bluntly "We dont have any economy cars in our fleet." I responded that i had made a reservation. "He repeated bluntly "we dont have any economy cars in our fleet, we overbooked." So I asked if he could give me a different car at the same rate and he responded very rudely "I'm not giving you anything." Guy was just plain rude and has no business working in the service industry in any form. So i went to the next rental booth over and was greeted with a smile and helped on my way. No cars available when we arrived 9pm Savannah air
Cons: We were told that there were no cars available (we had a reservation!!). Perhaps no cars would be available for 1.5 hours (that would make it 10:30pm). Referred us to Hertz where we were able to get a car, but of course for more money than our Payless reservation.
Cons: Long lines and not enough staff at pick up.Also discrepancy with mileage at drop off put me back in line at drop off too .

Budget needs a faster check in and check out proc
Pros: The car was a nice new car and very comfortable.
Cons: We had to wait in long lines to both pick up and drop off the car. Once we signed in and were assigned a car we were then told we had to wait for the car to arrive. We waited another 20 minutes before the car was made available to us. Then when we went out to get the car we were given the wrong car. After we loaded our luggage, we realized the key would not start the car. We then had to go back to the outside attendant and explain that the key did not work. The attendants then figured out that they had given us the wrong car. We then transferred out luggage. The entire process took us close to an hour.

Pros: Even with no one else at the check in counter it took over 15 minutes to get the paperwork done because he couldn't find a car for us. Then with my wife's bad knee, we had to walk two blocks to the pick up place. There we had to wait with no place to sit for another half hour before the car arrived. The was a water cooler there "for Budget customers" that was empty.
Pros: quick execution of paperwork and transaction, but please read complaints.
Cons: I'm in Georgia on a golf trip and will be using the rental for 4 guys plus our golf bags.
When I looked at the vehicle options online,
I chose the midsize SUV because the Santa Fe was listed as being able to hold 4 ppl & 5 bags. When I arrived, the only midsize SUV available was a Jeep Cherokee.
I understand the premise of the 'or similar' designation on all rental sites, but to me, the similar options should be identical in space and cargo room. Not just in the way they are described by a manufacturer. The Hyundai would fit all 4 bags no problem from previous experience, my father owns one.
Because our bags would not fit in the Cherokee I'm paying for an upgrade to a Dodge Ram pickup, increasing my reservation cost from $318 to $515.
I don't know if there is anything you can do to help my particular case, but I'm feeling a little put off by this experience. The employees at the desk did what they could to find me another option but the problem lies within the options you are providing on the site. It's misleading.

Pros: I reserved what I thought would be a sedan and got a 4wd Jeep that my 93-year old dad had trouble getting in and out off.
Cons: I got something I didn't reserve or want. Guy was now pleasant to talk with.

Staff needs customer service skills training.
Cons: The young woman I worked with upon rental was absolutely horrible to deal with! I felt like I had been beaten up by the time it was done and couldn't wait to just get the keys and leave.
The car I had was a Ford Focus, idled funny at every stoplight. I reported it upon returning the car and was told that she'd heard that before and that if I wanted a nicer car I would have to spend more.

Pros: Jeep Liberty was decent size for price of $20 per day.
Cons: Pickup agent strongly suggested that 6 ft 7 inch tall man would have his knees around his ears unless we upgraded size of vehicle for higher cost. She was not able to tell us the make and model of the car that we had been assigned before we decided to upgrade or not. Pickup agent also suggested that our car insurance policy would not cover damage although our insurance representative assured us that it would.

"or similar" is subjective.
Pros: The car, a durango was nice, it drove well and was clean.
Cons: We reserved a Tahoe, there was "or similar" text in the booking.
The issue is not simply the number of passengers, as both a Tahoe and a Durango can seat 7-8 adults. The issue was the actual cubic volume of storage space in the trunk area. When utilizing the 3rd row in either vehicles, a Tahoe has significantly more space than a Durango. Ultimately, we had to rent a second vehicle for our luggage. Note to future renters, find out what the "or similar" vehicles are..

Pros: Getting the car and returning the car was very easy.
Cons: I had reserved a full-sized car but none were available at the time I showed up at the counter. Instead, I got a Jeep Renagade, which was very difficult for me to get in and out of and which used far more gas than the car I requested. They told me the Jeep was an upgrade to what I reserved, but I was very disappointed in the substitution. I specifically reserved through Thrifty because they had a good price for the car I wanted.

Cons: I reserved a "Jeep Patriot or similar SUV" and was given a grand caravan which is not what i reserved. the customer service rep at the counter informed me that was the only car left when there were several other cars in the aisle when we went out to the caravan. the feedback i was given was to "come back to savannah airport tomorrow to talk to the supervisor." that feedback was not helpful nor convenient as we were going to be over an hour away for the weekend.

Cons: a very long line for pickup as hertz did not have the promised cars available. caused me to have to hurry to appointment once i was given papers. no-one available in the lot to record problems (damage to front RIGHT bumper). accused of incurring damage that was preexisting upon my return. (amazingly, a traveling companion had the exact same experience (except LEFT front bumper) with the same type of car on the same drop off day.

Cons: charging $14 a day to add my husband as a driver is a rip off. I was using my own auto insurance, and accepting all the risk. How can they justify this? Enterprise does not charge any additional fees. I will certainly not be renting from Hertz in the future. In addition, the counter person was rude.

Also, the "maintenance needed" light came on the dash with another 500 miles to go which was a bit unsettling.

Pros: The backseat had something sticky that had been spilled all over it. The windshield wipers barely worked. There was no wiper fluid is the tank so we had to stop to purchase some. We filled it up and it still would not work. We were traveling in snow so this made it very difficult to see at times. Who checks these cars before you rent them out?? This one clearly was not inspected.

Helpful staff and clean car
Pros: The staff at both the pickup dropoff locations were very courteous and helpful. While the pickup was delayed sure to high customer volume, the associate at the Savannah airport was great, and discounted customers for the inconvenience.
Cons: There was a long wait at the Savannah airport, but it's only because the company staffed one associate for that time period, it certainly wasn't the worker's fault. As mentioned, I was even discounted for the extra time.

Confusion about terms of best price deal
Pros: The desk staff was very courteous and polite, and worked to get us what we wanted when it became apparent that our first choice was unsuitable.
Cons: We took the "best deal" through an online discount booking, and did not realize that it meant we'd get whatever vehicle might be available (it probably says that, but it showed a picture of a compact car and we did not read carefully). The vehicle available was a large passenger van, unsuitable for our trip. We paid a little more and got a normal midsized sedan instead, but felt a bit deceived by the advertising. Also the desk staff, although very polite, seemed somewhat disorganized; they gave the impression that they were experiencing delays and shortages that day.

Not what was promised
Cons: We had requested a mini-van with seats that fold flush with the floor. I called and talked with the agent specifically to ensure we had that car type since we were transporting family heirloom furniture. When we showed up, there were no minivans. Only a Ford Transit that had 9 passenger seats, NONE of which folded down at all. Packing the car was a nightmare and put our family furniture in jeopardy.
Pros: the drop off process was very easy. The girl was very helpful and told us she will take care of the car, we were allowed to park it at the non-assigned to National spot to save our time.

Stressful time getting car, high price

Cons: I did not like the impersonal service and being sent to the back of the line when my corporate id did not work. The representative did not put any effort into figuring out my problem. I had to go on the website myself and figure out that I was an emerald club member and make an account, which was very simple. It took 45 minutes for me to get a car. Also, I thought the price was going to be lower than estimated since I reserved the car for 2pm -11pm but only used the car until 6pm. The price was actually more than estimated.
