Pros: My wife and I enjoyed everything about this property. Alban, the proprietor, was extremely helpful, gracious and accomodating. The room was very nice and private with a wonderful view. Alban spent time with us to make us aware of sites to see in and around Brittany. This place is fantastic. Highly recommended.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, extremely clean and spacious apartment
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were the best in our two week-stay in Brittany and Normandy. It was a suite, with kitchenette, so we could organise our own breakfasts and meals. Everything was new and very clean. The laundry service was efficient and reasonably priced. It should be noted that the building is an old people's home. For us, that was perfect, no late-night parties next door! If you want a quiet stay, this is perfect. If you want a lively hotel, then this isn’t for you.
Cons: Nothing, it was a great place - highly recommended
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet, very clean, great access, great parking, minute’s walk from town centre, nice facilities, nice staff, lovely apartment.
Cons: Nothing not to like. What we did not realise though, is that it seems to be targeted at ‘senior’ residents, however we were not made to feel unwelcome (despite having two young, loud children)! We actually really enjoyed the tranquility and the ease of access and sense of space everywhere.
5.8 Okay
Cons: Poor wifi coverage. Rooms were not cleaned after the first night.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The apartment was very good, compact and well laid out, and was of sufficient size to accommodate our party of 4 adults, a baby and 2 dogs. The location was good, only a few minutes walk from the town centre and the harbours. It is an old people’s complex but that in no way detracted from our enjoyment. We found the leisure facilities good with swimming pool, sauna, small gym and aquaspa for which we were all given a free coupon.
Cons: The kitchen was minimal and kitchen equipment basic; however the staff tried very hard to make up for the shortages. The table was not really big enough for four adults. Next door is currently a building site, but that is something out of the owners control.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderfully luxurious, spacious, comfortable, cosy and well-equipped apartment! Indoor heated swimming pool. All meals and drinks available if required. Friendly, helpful staff. Secure and elegant building. Large balcony. Easy parking. Good value for money. Would highly recommend it.
Cons: It wasn't a problem in any way... but it was strange to find that the apartment was in what is essentially a retirement home.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location food staff views
Cons: No separation of shower from bedroom just see through plastic curtain
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable and good facilities. Surprised that it was part of a Senior Retirement home but it didn't matter. Plenty of parking and a good swimming pool which was a bonus. Would visit again and recommend it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Large bedrooms, bathroom and living area, all very clean. Breakfast basic but good, staff very friendly and very helpful.
Chambre d'Hôte à Douarnenez - Douarnenez - Building
4
9.4 Excellent (45 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect in every way! Such pleasant hosts, with whom we had much in common. The garden was beautiful, the room was pleasantly decorated and we had everything we needed and wanted. We cannot speak highly enough of our experience.
Cons: I liked everything!
7.0 Good
Pros: Hostess was lovely & very helpful
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely family, lovely home and close to the town and marina
Cons: No parking on site or where you can see your car
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My partner and I were in town for a wedding and had a lovely time staying here. The hosts were very hospitable and welcomed us in to their beautiful home. It's around a 5 minute walk to the beach, if that. Would recommend others to stay here, and we will if we return to Douarnenez (PS: The breakfast croissants were the best we've ever had!)
Cons: We arrived at night and it was a little difficult finding the correct street and house. Wasn't a major issue by any means, but worth highlighting.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The appartment was centrally located, very close to local restaurants and the old town. The views were outstanding, constantly changing. The appartment was very light, spacious, comfortable and modern with a well-equiped kitchen. The town was lovely, relaxed, picturesque and quite vibrant without being overwhelming. The most memorable thing though, was the beautiful views across the bay from the appartment.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Olivier is a host who knows what taking care of guests means ! Even though we arrived shortly after 7 PM we met upon arrival, to be introduced with the appartment. The building and the area have seen better days, clearly, when Douarnenez was a thriving fishing harbour. However the appartment has been very nicely re-designed, furnished, and the view toward Crozon is great. We had an unexpected arrival gift in the shape of a 'far breton', which was very good :) Good night sleep, everything at hand for a good breakfast (butter, marmelade, tea and coffee were provided). And the experience continued after we left, as Olivier designed for us a very nice tour of the area for our our next journey. Definitely a good address in Douarnenez !
Cons: you can see that the appartment has been freshly renovated, some 'details' were not completely finished but that's looking for something to say...
7.5 Good
Pros: superb views from the loft windows, it was great being so near to the working port and watching the locals fishing, well equipped kitchen, allocated parking spot, host very helpful and even cooked a dessert
Cons: apartment needs some finishing touches to toilet and skirting, its on the fifth floor without lift
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Big appartement, great sea view, fresh wild fish market just 1 min away, large and well equipped kitchen, very helpful host, A lot of activities nearby, just ask the host; peaceful and quiet
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This is a very large apartment - 2 good-size bedrooms, roomy living area and well-equipped kitchen. Our host, Olivier, couldn't do enough for us and even cooked special Britagne treats for us which were delicious. As our group of 6 (good friends) were in the 70 year old age group, he assisted with carrying our suitcases up the stairs on arrival and down again on departure.
Cons: It would have been better if the building had an elevator - climbing up 64 steps to Design II a couple of times a day was more exercise than I had anticipated. Also, the apartment is still in a state of restoration in some areas (toilet, in particular).
7.5 Good
Pros: A comfortable apartment
Cons: The apartment 2 was a very good size but was on the top floor with no lift, even though this was ok for us (being over 65) but very active, we could not recommend it for anyone with climbing or carrying issues, it took me 84 steps from top to bottom

Pros: The staff was incredible and the place was perfect for my stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unpretentious little hotel with free parking opposite in a quirky unpretentious Breton fishing port Rooms spotless, clean sheets, beds comfortable and plenty hot water - breakfast good. Reception friendly and efficient Need to know there is no lift if that's going to be an issue - book a room with habour view Tip - walk out of hotel's front turn left and more or less left again and you will find a set of stairs which take you down to the habour side where you cross the estuary by a pedestrian bridge into town Start of lovely off road cycle route into Quimper (20k) along discussed railway line 500m down the road. Cycle ride easy.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The manager was very helpful. He provided an excellent fan which we greatly appreciated in the hot weather.
Cons: The shower itself went cold too quickly and some sort of handle to help getting out and in the bath/shower would have helped greatly as we are in our 80's!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing, lots of choice & in a very cozy & warm veranda looking over the Port Rhu. The room was comfortable and spotless!
Cons: Street side rooms have some traffic noise. Would recommend the Port-Rhu side for more tranquillity & beautiful view.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Well situated, free parking places accessible near by. Reasonable WIFI connections.
Cons: no problems
7.5 Good
Pros: 1. Location of hotel allows an easy walk into the centre of town, about a 12-15 minute walk. 2. Free car park is directly opposite the hotel.
Cons: Unfortunately the wooden stairs meant that we heard every guest coming and going!

10.0 Excellent
Cons: A room overlooking the courtyard was not available as requested, but alternatively we had a suite on street side. Staff we very helpful, and especially generous by setting up a small table for breakfast, even after we overslept and missed the 9:30 kitchen closure.

6.8 Good
Pros: Hotel simply did what it says on the tin. Nothing special but everything on the right side of average. Reception staff superb.
Cons: Parking available 3 minute walk away, free but unprotected public car park. Room clean but not exactly welcoming. The town looks good on paper and in photos but most of it is industrial and less attractive than other towns nearby.

7.5 Good
Cons: Would have liked to see an Omelet on the breakfast menu.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff, close to shops, to old town, region around town, nice room facing quiet courtyard
Cons: Expensive breakfast
6.3 Good
Pros: It was close to the harbour
Cons: Our confirmation letter said check in at 4pm. We were told on arrival that it was now 4 30 and at 4.30 we were told our room wasn't ready for another 30 minutes. Over an hour later we got our room. Perhaps there was a problem, but we were never told, and another 8 people were also waiting with us .

Golden Tulip Douarnenez Hotel - Douarnenez - Building
10
8.4 Excellent (574 reviews)
Overview Reviews

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very amenable to upgrading us to room with lovely view of bay. Bustling, casual, fun evening dining room with good food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: High quality hotel right beside the sea and beach. It is situated just outside in Treboul just outside of Douarnenez. We walked on the coastal path into the Port de Plaisance for drinks and icecreams on our first evening and it is a delightful area, full of beauty and natural features as well as easy access to bars and restaurants. The hotel upgraded us to a room with a balcony which was delightful. The room was spacious, the bed exceedingly comfortable and with spotless white linen. The free access to the large heated swimming pool was a bonus, expecially as I got the whole pool to myself.
Cons: The spa staff were in plentiful supply but I didn't get the help or advice I needed, or access to robe and towels until I made a second request. My inadequate French may have caused a misunderstanding. I was left wandering about the huge spa area.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Balcony view was great and the bed comfortable. Great location! We hired bikes from the hotel and had a nice ride around. The bar across the road was great and the beach on the doorstep also worth the visit I
Cons: Restaurant food wasn’t amazing and seemed to be no bar during the day.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious comfortable room in perfect location for beach, restaurants and town. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was excellent as we had the benefit of a sea view. Breakfast was ok but probably not worth 15 euros
Cons: Given the super location waterside, how strange that there was no bar available or use of the external terrace during the day (it was limited to meal times only)- this is one of the best assets of the building !
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: The personnel cancelled our reservation made one montg before in less than 24 hours before arrival at location. We are a family with two children.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location and hotel. Food very good
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room, the shower, hotel location Having a kettle and fridge in the room. The pool. Excellent value for money re room rate.
Cons: The pool didn't open till 9am. We would have liked to have been able to swim at 7am. The access cards often failed and had to be reset.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great location directl’y on the beach. The room was spacious and lovely. The staff is great !!! Really welcoming and helpful
Cons: The spa is not well maintained. Especially the swimming pool and the Hamam. Signs of mold everywhere giving a eerie senses of risks of bacteria ... The view from our room could be better if the roofs of the spa would be decorated ... be it just with stones and rock ... a bare technical roof is a bit of a sad view to enjoy !!!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was a very good value for money. Hotel room ia clean and the staff ia nice and kind. Had a good size bed and shower was big and comfortable.
Cons: It is a small town and not many commerces within walking distance

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The patio on level 2 ,a great Sun trap, the service and hospitality of staff was very good,I had booked the hotel with a credit card but upon arrival was able to pay in cash which was good.
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: The fact they had a family room
Cons: The strong cigarette smell in the hallways, the minuscule shower with no soap holder.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely comfy beds. Good sized room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent value for money. Short walk to the harbour where there were some good restaurants. Very clean.
Cons: Road was a little busy at times but quietened down later on. Parking across the road but was free.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Bed was extremely comfy, great central location, nice little roof garden, staff were very accommodating
7.0 Good
Pros: Easy car parking a short distance. Nice terrace and balcony area. Receptionist spoke good English and provided a map of the area. Good easy to access wifi.
Cons: Although warned it would be a while coming, the hot water took ages to come through. No kettle etc in room. Light switches were where bed headboard should be - sit up in bed, turn lights on.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Helpful and friendly. Good breakfast. Central location.
Cons: Lack of power points. Bathroom would have benefitted by having a heated towel rail.
6.8 Good
Pros: Location central and lift in property. Rooms opened onto small garden area so useful for dog and drinks outdoors quiet
Cons: Parking outside limited to 90 mins and full as was on street parking. If you have heavy luggage you must drag it to hotel from free parking up hill. Charge for dog 5€ I refused to pay. Extra cleaning for a tiny Maltese. 80 c tax I did pay. Room price was same on site as online
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff. Bathroom had a bath with a shower over: bedroom small but adequate. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the old town, and from the river in another direction, so it is almost central.
Cons: Booking.com information incorrect: no parking at hotel but a free public car park up a steep hill just behind.
6.5 Good
Pros: Clean modern room. Quiet at the back. Bed quite comfortable.
Cons: Dingy entrance and generally depressing atmosphere. HATED the badly cracked basin in the bathroom - could easily have broken if leant on and if so would have been very dangerous with sharp edges. The bedroom window opened by sliding at low level onto the terrace outside. We left the shutters down each day, but when 'done' the room was left with shutters up and window open, so absolutely not secure at all. Location OK for the young, but for oldies like us, steep hills. Parking OK Sun and Mon, but had to park a long way away Tues/Wed.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Nice clean hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Pillows, so flat. It did seem to be the case in most of the French hotels we stayed in, not comfy at all, which is a shame because the mattresses are ok

Pros: The wonderful view from the room - absolutely outstanding. Friendly welcome. Excellent house keeping - the room was returned to perfect "default" setting every day. Douarnenez was an absolutely delightful town. We are so glad we stayed here and enjoyed it and its surrounds.
Cons: Room was quite small. Even so, a kettle (and fridge) would have been nice.
Overview Reviews
See hotel page On the edge of Finistre, in Douarnenez, The Originals City, Les Residences d'Armor, Douarnenez is both welcoming and practical. Owner Murielle Jeanne, who oversees everything, thinks professionalism goes hand in hand with a successful hotel stay. Her 3-star hotel with 23rooms and restaurant is the perfect place to rest and recharge by the sea. Just a stones throw from the beach, this elegant and modern hotel can be found amongst the wonderful charms of Brittany.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is a large, family- and activity-oriented centre with excellent access to the beach at Tréboul, a 30 minute walk from Douarnenez old town. The lovely beach is ideal for early morning swimming, and the walk along the coastal path to the main tourist area is very scenic. The indoor pool looked clean and welcoming, but we swam in the sea instead. Secure parking was available on site.
Cons: The venue is more of an activity centre than a hotel, with a collection of buildings of different ages scattered around the grounds, but the staff were friendly and helpful. The reception was not 24-hour, but our instructions were left at the desk and were easy to understand.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was very clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. Lovely hot shower. Good selection of food at breakfast. The hotel was right opposite the beach. Swimming pool was an added bonus and was nice and warm.
Cons: Bathroom was a bit small and we could hear upstairs toilet flush, but it wasn't terribly loud.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good staff, lovely in-door pool and right on the beach
Cons: No aircon in the room and limited on site parking
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent, evening meal not so good as the restaurant had only opened that day and choice was very poor
Cons: Having surveyed the locality on Google earth, there appeared to be an abundance of eateries in the area, however, the brasserie was closed the pizza parlour was closed the sandwich shop and the ice cream parlour were also closed as was the restaurant in the next street
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Location excellent. Staff helpful and a perfect spot for a few days of relaxing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location. Beautiful and very quiet. It was nice to feel in France rather than just another beach resort which could have been anywhere.
Cons: It was confusing on how to enter as hotel spread out over different buildings and very little information in English. Whilst we wanted to give our French a go, it would have been nice to have a little help.

6.8 Good
Pros: Proximity to the beach was great. Had a lovely evening meal which did not expect to be so good. Breakfast was good.
Cons: You could not check in until 6 pm, not even the car park. The owner was running the place alone as his wife was on holiday during high season. He complained a lot about this and my partner referred to him as Basil from Fawlty Towers. The room was as expected from the photos so I knew it was not luxury accommodation but no sound proofing so you could hear other people and noise with doors shutting.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The proximity of the beach
Cons: The city center was quite far away.
6.8 Good
Pros: EXCELLENT RESTAURANT
Cons: ROOM FAR TOO SMALL. NOWHERE TO PUT CLOTHES APART FROM A FEW HANGERS, NO DRAWERS.NOWHERE TO SIT IN HOTEL APART FROM RESTAURANT (NOT ALLOWED) EVENTUALLY TOLD WE COULD SIT IN THE OUTSIDE CONSERVATORY
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The welcome
Cons: Noise from corridor Limited coffee at breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast excellent. Location brilliant. Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant excellent.
Cons: Nothing
Overview Reviews
See hotel page Across from Douarnenez bay in the heart of this Brittany town, Clos de Vallombreuse, The Originals Relais proudly displays its 19th-century manor house, run by Batrice Rubin. The charm of its panelling, high ceilings and grand staircase remains intact. The more modern part flanking the old building, which houses some of the 30 rooms, takes nothing away from the romantic atmosphere of this hotel. The restaurant is of the highest quality. The pool is hard to resist. The view over the bay is superb.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: central location, quiet garden setting, nice terrace overlooking the sea
Cons: rather mediocre dinner and slow dinner service, but be careful, there is not much else in town to eat
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place, frendly people.
Cons: There was a very unpleasant odor in the room. Tapis???
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful garden room and views over the Ocean.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Good restaurant and Alice and Servan were excellent staff
Cons: Dirty and cold bath water; room not cleaned; exterior of the room dirty; very understaffed
7.5 Good
Pros: Fabulous location, great views, lovely property, spacious room, gracious staff, very nice to have a balcony.
Cons: The shower is very awkward as it is just a hand-sprayer in a bathtub -> an unpleasant way to start each day. The entry to the room has three doors (entry door, bathroom door, toilet door) that constantly crash into each other. The flowers in the balcony planter were dead. Overall the room felt tired and needs updating.
6.3 Good
Pros: The setting and gardens were beautiful. The new rooms looked lovely.
Cons: Our rooms were in an attic space very old fashioned decor and furniture. Still using blankets and 3 pillows were yellow and stained - not clean. No tea/ coffee available in the rooms. Bottled Water provided in the room on the 1st day but not replenished on the 2nd day. Left without toilet roll also. No proper shower available. Refused to serve food or tea/ coffee on a Sunday afternoon or evening. Everywhere closed locally on a Sunday and the hotel refused to serve food and drink even though their staff were standing around drinking tea/ coffee. We asked to upgrade/change rooms for ones with a shower - said they were 2/3 full and didn’t have any rooms left with showers. Swimming pool looked great but on closer inspection was quite dirty and needed cleaning. Great potential but let down with the finer details being ignored.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything room was big and the bed was comfortable nice shower
Cons: Didn't try the breakfast as it was too pricey half the price in town.
6.0 Good
Pros: The character of the main house and the fabulous sea views
Cons: The maintenance and cleanliness of the rooms and garden. The closure of the resturant from Sunday lunchtime to Tuesday evening and the "modern" room with a bathtub placed of a parquet floor and no separate shower.
6.3 Good
Pros: very helpful and friendly reception staff
Cons: breakfast service was almost non existent, coffee lukewarm, bread precut and hence stale. Cleanliness of corridors and bedroom and decking poor, waste bin not emptied

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great bed, quiet room as we had requested.
Cons: On booking we were told parking was free when infact ten euros for two days. Wanted to eat in the restaurant of the Golden Tulip hotel which is all part of the same establishment when a very unhelpful receptionist told us it was very expensive as if we were unable to afford it because we were staying in the "cheaper" hotel.
6.3 Good
Pros: Sea next door and quite beautiful
Cons: No swimming pool. The pictures are overselling the hotel. Elevator was not working.
4.5 Okay
Pros: not Much
Cons: Breakfast was poor, plastic sliced bread, coffee weak, The bathrooms are rather tired with mouldy shower screen broken shower head, toilet did not flush. WiFi was intermittent
6.8 Good
Cons: Breakfast was uninspiring and the wi-fi/internet access was truly appallingly bad.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The area is very nice
Cons: Breakfast was cheap but very basic, the rooms were very worn, air conditioning was very much missing,
5.0 Okay
Pros: The property was near a local clean beach with lifeguards. The hotel was a bit dated and very hot and stuffy
Cons: The rooms where stuffy and there was no air con so stayed hot and stuffy all night. As well as the receptionist tried to charge me €9.50 per person per night local tax. The price includes on this website was including local tax and only once I asked to see her manager did she admire that I had nothing else to pay
6.8 Good
Pros: The facilities
Cons: The room came with towels and shampoo and hairdryer. Nothing else. No robes are provided like before. No coffee tea facilities like before. Room and curtains not maintained. Electrical socket for main lamp was not working. Ceiling light in the room’s corridor was working intermittently. Standards have dropped tremendously since two years ago. Quality of breakfast had also dropped though price remained at €7 per person. No pastries, only basic bread and cakes. The hotel should be a one star.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location and nearness to the beach. Quiet! Friendly people.
Cons: We had to cross the street to talk to reception. There were no croissants at breakfast. It had sort of a hospital feel to it.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We did not eat at the hotel.
Cons: The smell of the waterproof backed curtains however we understand why they are necessary as the birds dive bomb the windows . Would have preferred windows that could be partially opened (e.g. tilt and turn)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The twin beds were amazingly comfy for such a basic hotel.
Cons: Shower cubicle rather small with limited space for my disabled husband.
