If you like good old-fashioned funky motels, you'll love this one. It could be anywhere in America, but it is a bargain in Berkeley. And the sushi bar which shares the parking lot is terrific.
The only thing I liked about my stay here was its proximity to various business: Acme Bread, 4th Street shopping No AC - just a small round fan hung up on the corner of the room, old musty carpeting with a film on it (had to go to walgreens to purchase socks to wear when in), old linens/curtains/scratchy towels, indifferent help desk.
The location is great (North Berkeley) near plenty of restaurants. Exterior is quaintly decorated, interiors are nice and have a home-y touch. Unfortunately the walls are very thin so be prepared to hear conversations clearly from the adjacent rooms. The water lines are especially loud. I am not a light sleeper but it is difficult to rest when you're woken every time a neighbor turns on a sink. Additionally, like many motels of this grade, the WiFi is totally overloaded. It is possible to connect to the network and check your email if you're patient. Expect to get internet connectivity in 15 second intervals every 2 minutes or so.
Great staff. Heater barely works (even though it's February); it's dark; the shower hangs so low I had to bend to use it and I'm only 5'7"; the decor is dark, depressing and cheap; the electric outlets were scarce--just an awful place that isn't worth it compared to other motels in Berkeley.
Good value for the money. Easy access to good restaurants and within walking distance (10-15min) from the bart. Great friendly staff. We got upgraded to a larger room (since they had the vacancy) for no extra cost, and also left our car there for the day (free parking) after checking out. Hotel is very old, and the facilities are run down. It was ok as a place to crash at for a night, but it's not a "nice" hotel by any stretch of the imagination.
That it was in the city of Berkeley. Filthy, run down with smelly rooms. There was an unstable patron who required an ambulance and several police cars. Blocking my car and more than probably scratching it. All this occurred late and was very disruptive to our sleep.
The bathroom looked recently remodeled with granite shower walls, counter, and floor tile. There was a large flat screen TV with directTV. The room had a refrigerator and microwave. The bed was comfortable. The location was good. The price was good. The room was dark and small. There is traffic noise from the street. Worst of all the room smelled sour and the air coming from the heater - AC unit was stale smelling. The continental breakfast was very basic, but I didn't expect much for the price we paid.
Nice bathroom, had mini fridge and microwave, very quiet. Beds were quite small, room could be cleaner, quite expensive for what we received.
Rooms don't look how they do online- it looks like they've spent some money to renovate. It's nicer than I thought it was going to be. Microwave and refrigerator in room. Room was clean. Amtrack is near by so it's kind of loud all night. Staff was nice. It's worth the money if you need a room for a night or two.
Location for what I needed to do. Old room.
No, the on-line was a misrepresentation. It indicated that rooms had microwave and small fridge. There was only one room with that and 10 dollar extra per night if we were to get that particular room. The hallway in the back building smell like urine. Flies would be around the hallways mainly because of the urine odor.
It's was okay you get what you paid for They need a new tv and a new phone for the room
I stayed in Berkeley Inn 4 nights. We wanntet to see SF and there was a goog connection by sub. 10 min walking to the next station and 20 min later you are in downtown SF. I also visited Berkeley Downtown and the university. Realy amazing ;-) The rooms are very small and the shower was not clean enough. I expected more for this pirice.
We got everything we needed, though minimal, and for a good price. The walls were pretty thin so we could hear our neighbors and they could probably hear us... Bring earplugs.
decent room. convenient. upon arrival was surprised to find the proprietor behind plexiglass and to have to ring the bell for service. not very friendly, actually was rude to me. however, his wife was nicer the next time i needed some assistance.
was a fair value for the room ... biggest concern was the the hotel is not earthquake safe
Cheap. We called it a "cheater's motel". But it was cozy, and it was clean. The flip-style lock was broken, as if someone had locked their drunk spouse out of the room and he'd busted in.
WiFi, microwave oven, refrigerator. Very quiet. Inadequate task lighting for unpacking and packing. (I always have this issue with hotel rooms, and I forgot to pack my good headlamp.)
The hotel is conveniently located.
It was the first time I went to Berkeley and the hotel manager was very helpful. No breakfast !! Fortunatley the restaurant near the hotel is very nice !
Adequate and cheap, half the price of San Francisco Travelodge. Poor area of Berkeley and across the bay from San Francisco. Area, need to cross the bay bridge. If intention is to visit San Francisco, better to stay airport side of bay.
Free wi-fi, microwave
It was cheap for our extremely tight budget I thought it was rude that they asked me 21 questions about wanting 4 towels in the morning for my boyfriend and I to shower. Mind your own business...don't be so
