It was like staying at the hotel in the movie The Shining. Beautiful but a little creepy too. I loved it. We would stay here again.
I gave this an excellent rating because it would not be fare to rate it anything else. We had no idea we were going to be involved in the power shutoff by PG&E so we had to move around with the flashlight on our cell phone and of course it was cold.
Fantastic historical hotel! Friendly staff. Very clean. Comfy beds. Nice size room. Very quiet. This hotel was close to Eureka's Old Town and we were able to walk to everything. My wife and I AT NO TIME felt that we were unsafe or worried about where we were. We felt safer here than we do in some 5 star-hotels in San Francisco!! There was absolutely no outside noise, which was great. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The lobby is fantastic with a lot of historical displays. We will stay here again.
Restaurant, Cafe, and spa were all closed.
This old hotel was full of history. Portraits of famous visitors lined the walls. Overstuffed furniture in the lobby spoke if a different era. There was charm to the facilities. A nice change from chain hotels in that way.
Apparently there is a real “season” for this hotel that ends by the first of September. The pool and sauna were closed as well as the main restaurant. We were there on a Thursday, not the weekend. The restaurant might have been open then. They served a full menu in the bar, but the seating areas were not conducive to eating a full meal. Our room was small but comfortable- but lacked ease in charging phone & computer.
Comfortable bed. Clean room.
View of roof and heating units. Not much parking in lot close to hotel.
This hotel has a history and character that is remarkable. Portraits of notable figures who visited this hotel adorn the hallways. It is not modern but it is clean, comfortable and hospitable.
