Stunning building with wonderful grounds and great breakfast and updated room. Nothing
The overal immpression initially was good. The food was very acceptable although the evening meal menu was rather limited. The beds!! although the mattress in the first room I used looked fairly new it was poor quality with little comfort offered. After complaining in the morning nothing changed so coplained again was moved to another room which had a marginally better mattress.
Great value for money.
Beautiful location and grounds. Stunning main building but not all the accomocation is available in the main building. The hotel is not really set up to cater for individuals visting. It is more of a conference centre. The evening meal was a buffet style with 3 choices and based on what the wedding party next door were having! The ambience of the restaurant was more canteen than restaurant. Having said this, if you asked staff for anything, they were happy to provide it.
The beauty of the surrounding countryside and the magnificence of the hotel itself.
Elegant calm atmosphere; welcoming helpful staff. Really an oasis of tranquility.
Pleasant setting with an impressive approach The room was too condensed
The restaurant food was very poor. Bar food not much better.
The decoration of the rooms downstairs and the hall ways the room was very small end badly apointed
I liked the helpful staff in the restaurant who worked extremely hard on the sturday evening of our stay. I stayed in room 121 which was awful and i have complained personally to Diane Cornish the sales manager and i have yet to have the courtesy of a reply to my comments.
The reception and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and welcoming The setting is delightful and the food in the restaurant was very good. Our bath room was very cold - no apparent heating and interesting though the high ceilings are, there was a draught. This did not spoil our stay but if the weather had been colder it might have done.
Setting and location excellent. Public rooms nice Scandinavian type rooms (118) were very very small. Little wardrobe and storage space. Walls were paper thin. We could hear neighbours even when they were whispering and using bathroom! Flight path from nearby RAF base. No double galzing. It was clear the accommodation was geared to single people on conferences/workshops. Massive disappointmant!
We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first room was extremely hot, we spoke to reception who offered us another room without hesitation. The restaurant is excellent both for breakfast & dinner. After eating there the first night we definitely wanted to on our second night but forgot to book. So after a day out and about came back to hear it was fully booked being Saturday. However the staff were brilliant and said they would manage to squeeze us in and we weren't disappointed, the steak was perfect along with everything else! Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and setting. Will definitely go back.
lovely location, good restaurant
Location Staff and service
Character hotel. Standard room very small, we stayed in the barn conversion annexe, room was very small with single glazed window which was very noisy. It felt as if we were staying in a beach hut. There was a noise in the pipes which kept us awake most of the night. Also we had to travel to a nearby pub as the restaurant(which is another pub a minute) away was full, priority to guests with bb and e meal.
The hotel grounds and local area The fact they have a two tier system where guests staying at the Old Swan get dining reservation preferences and their own roped off lounge area that the Minster guests cannot use
Lovely setting, staff very friendly. Lovely meal. There were no biscuits on the hospitality tray.
The lovely village location and splendid grounds, the roaring fires and tasteful country house feel. The restaurant was a little disorganised. Four people took our orders and served us and the co-ordination was lacking and the service was therefore slow. Why not allocate given tables to specific waiting staff?
Clean, pleasant staff, good central location on the high street. Room a bit tired looking. Cream for coffee in the room was out of date. Cold room- the heating had not been put on. Facing bins at back of building & a bit noisy when staff were. Putting the rubbish out.
Burford is a lovely town in the Cotswolds. Also the countryside surrounding it is wonderful, especially in Autumn.
Friendly staff & excellent service.Wonderful food. Real ale was a bonus.
Fantastic breakfast and staff were very helpful and attentive.
Service was both willing and charming (though no one offered to carry my case). Excellent breakfast. One could read by bedside lights - a rare pleasure! Decor a bit shabby and not particularly to my taste. Comfortable first-floor sitting-room had unused look.
The food - both breakfast and dinner was outstanding. The best meals we had in our tour of the Cotswolds.
The room, the quiet, the comfortable bed, the excellent breakfast (even though I only ate it once), the accommodating staff (thank you for my early morning latte on the patio). Turning off the patio lights around 11 p.m. (midnight?)..... I couldn't have my late night read outside.... a small thing, but important for me. It would have been good to have a facecloth included with the room's linens.
The size of the room was great. Food was value for money from the bar, the breakfast was good and extensive. Nothing major
peace and quiet and the location Choice of dining menu and the cost.
Comfortable room with good facilities,a very good meal with very effici.ent and friendly service no lift
Absolutely the best, most beautiful hotel we have stayed at in the UK. Wonderful restaurant and wonderful food as well as service. Keep up the good work. Highly recommend your hotel. No
you felt a relaxed atmosphere, no rushing around. it was great.
Good facilities, good food in restaurant, good room and friendly staff. Good location for shopping in Oxford and visiting the Cotswolds
Friendly staff at meal time, plenty of car parking, ideally situated for A40 Swimming pool far too small
facilities breakfast good evening meal portions small for the price
Reception staff were helpful and room and bed were spacious.
Just the ticket! a very warm welcome, very accommodating, excellent food and in the most beautiful setting. We'll definitely be back. Thank you.
The charm of the building, Beer Garden, Location, Breakfast options, Friendly staff. On the expensive side but accommodation in the area is.
Tally, Scott & not forgetting Andy were really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very comfortable from the beginning to the end of our stay. The food was excellent and our room was very comfortable. Will definitely recommend to family & friends.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Delicious food served in the atmospheric bar area at the front of the hotel.
Staff we pleasant and responsive; bed was comfortable The bathroom just was not clean, the shower leaked leaving us with puddles on the floor, there was just one minute cake of soap to share between the washbasin and the shower. The \tV had no remote control and there was no hairdryer, both of which should be standard for 3*
The breakfast was good and served quickly. The bed was comfy. The rooms were very cold when we arrived and lack of notices to fire exits. Smelt like a greasy spoon cafe. Needs the decor of the rooms updating
Friendly and welcoming. Well-prepared food, reasonably priced. Excellent bar service. Willing to oblige with all reasonable requests.
good location poor decor needs refurbishment
None First room we had we had no hot running water, radiators didnt work and it was freezing cold, there was no shower and room was tired looking with poor decor and dirty net curtains, we where then moved to a second room which also had no shower, noisy plumbing, but with the temp outside being minus 5degs at least we were warm.
Location/breakfast No curtains - only vertical blinds on one window - none on other window. Generally a bit grubby. Towels clean, but small.Duvet only just fitted on double bed.
The food was good. The wine was reasonable priced. Would recommend this trip back in time.
Close to the Thames Path General run down appearance
Good value for money. Friendly staff. Very good cooked breakfast. Bar menu also looked good but as I had other arrangements for dinner, I did not eat in the bar, and cannot therefore comment on the standard of the food. Hotel needs some investment. The shower is very basic. Town centre location is convenient, but early morning traffic noise was an unwelcome wake up call.
I arrived late in the evening and the owner was on hand to let me in and get settled .Room/bathroom were clean and comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was the classic 'Full English Breakfast' -featuring Award winning sausages from the local butcher! No Dislikes - disappointed that i missed the 'Biztro restaurant'. Next time !
Memories of the past, good service, friendly staff and excellent food
The atmosphere, old building with nice details....living inside of History ! -
Staff very efficient and food excellant. Thought wine prices a bit steep and £3.75 for a bottle of water for my wife at dinner, not really justified. We could of course asked for a jug of tap water, which was what we expected.
The comfort, furnishings, decor, luxury, value for money, atmosphere. Nothing
local to Burford
Personal and friendly with a warm and comfortable atmosphere without being coldly ostentatious
Location of the Bay Tree was excellent for visiting Burford. My husband and I dined in the restaurant and the food was very good. Choice of breakfast also very good. The receptionist, a young lady from Berlin, was helpful and very pleasant. Having worked in the hotel industry (a long time ago - Head Office Personnel for thf Hotels, hotels in Paris, Sardinia and also as pa to Executive Director of the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, Loondon)for many years, I noticed our room (Walnut) was in need of some cosmetic work I.E. chipped paint on the walls. I'm also not entirely convinced that the bottom sheet on the bed had been laundered properly (rather creased with marks on it) and there was also a stain on the top cover. Not noticed until we got into bed and I didn't think housekeeping would be on hand at that time of night. When you are paying £137 per night, I feel the standards should be higher. I also noticed a special offer on reception for midweek for a double room considerably cheaper and wonder why this was not available when I booked on-line?
Quiet, clean, comfortable and excellent service which was unobtrusive but sensitive to needs.
Old English atmosphere, comfortly appointed, good food and very friendly members of staff who gave help when it was needed
tea coffee in rooms the 'hot' breakfast was served before we had finished the cereal. It could have been hotter
Staff were helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast
Excellent evening meal
I booked two rooms - 1 family room and 1 single room. The family room was spacious and comfortable. However, the single room was not very clean and there was evidence of damp - it was not satisfactory. There was also a lot of noise from the neighbouring bars on the Saturday night and whilst the Marlborough is not in a position to have any control of this it did mean that we got very little sleep until after 4am on the Sunday morning.
food options, central location noisy room, needs triple glazing
lamb shank evening meal poor. good cooked breakfast.
We were attending a wedding at the Fleece and this was ideally located. We requested a quiet room due to previous reviews about noise from the front, we were put in the annex in a newly decorated room. No issues with parking. Overall this hotel was ok, nothing special. Although the room was newly decorated the bathroom wasn't, there were 2 bad mis-spellings on the towel instructions in the bathroom which summed up the hotel really, lack of attention to detail. Remote control didn't work, bad reception on the 5 channels, really early breakfast (8:30 finish is far too early if you're on holiday), adequate breakfast but a lack of choice.
Comfortable bed and good food Limited car parking
Nice clean hotel and ideal central location in Witney. Breakfast service each morning was utterly hopeless.
Staff very friendly and helpful Rooms and facilities perhaps a bit tired...
Food was excellent. Room was comfortable For a superior room, the bathroom needed updating and the room initially was cold
Convenient and very quiet. there were no other facilities in the vicinity so you are a captive audience. As a consequence, the prices for drinks etc were very high.
Bed was uncomfrtable. Kettle did not work
excellent location, accomodation, hospitality and food The breakfast was very good, but you had to make a choice by means of a menu. You could also limit the choice with a buffet, but the guest would now free to take what and how much he wants.
Relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff, excellent food.
nothing particularly stands out - rooms were comfortable but not special, food was mostly good. Waiting staff were attentive owner / manager has a rather abrupt manner which can be off putting, Breakfast portions are small and do not justify the £9.95 price tag. Cheese board portions also small - I have seen bigger Dairy Lea triangles!
The dinner menu and the breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly and bar area was traditional. The bed was a bit soft.
Good food, comfortable spacious room and ideally situated near to RAF Brize Norton.
very pleasent room, with lovely fresh cooked food in pub
Comfortable, good atmosphere, convenient for Oxford.
Very clean. Accessibility. Easy to park. Walking distance to town centre. Lack of tv channels. People expect some Sky channels now. Slight road noise.
Staff making us feel well taken care of. On a busy street
Location and value The attitude of certain staff members
Convenience of location, comfort of the hotel, courteous, friendly and helpful attitude of all the staff, good quality food
Excellent food and very convenient location The fire alarn at 2.45am with no guidance or advice from the staff as to the problem
The hotel was in a great position to visit Burford and surrounding area. The food was first class and in fact servings were too generous! Lovely olde worlde hotel Would have liked a firmer bed
We only stayed for one night but it was great to get there and park at the hotel, book in dump our bags in the room and have a couple of drinks in the bar. We had a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit basket in our room, we chose to eat in the bar, we could have eaten in the restaurant, the food was gorgeous and the staff very friendly. it really is a beautiful old hotel a good breakfast in the morning. I probably would not have chosen the four poster room if another had been available, just because of the extra expense but on the other hand we do like a room within the hotel rather than in the courtyard of a hotel nothing to fault
Plesant staff. Decent breakfast
Location and friendly staff.
Very friendly staff
Lovely hotel, high standards but a relaxed and warm atmosphere. Really good food, very nice bar with good beer and a log fire (it was November after all), rooms clean, comfortable and well appointed. Popular with the local community too, always a good sign.
Very professional and a nice atmosphere. No
Relaxing atmosphere and style was a mix of a good hotel and an excellent inn.Staff at all levels friendly/professional/efficient/attentive and welcoming.Meals in bars/lounge were off a high standard. Room large and easily accessed for handicapped guests/ 4 Log fires great, but all needed to have their chimneys swept! Normal wood fire aroma spoilt by visible smoke that attached to clothes/hair. This was one of several weaknesses that indicated lack of maintenance/checks by local or Cotswold Inns and Hotel management. Gratuity added to restaurant bill without previous advice and bathroom had no bath only a shower -this was a superior room but it had the smallest bathroom that could be designed. Limited clothes hanging space(coat hooks behind doors would have helped)
Comfortable, quiet hotel in the old style with excellent food, log fires and unobtrusive service.
comfy bed, nice bar, lovely restaurant, beautiful building and garden and very nice location breakfast not well-cooked, bathroom too small and too hot, shower cubicle too small, shower head fixed,
OPen fires and relaxed atmosphere en-suite shower and toilet were cramped. Shower temperature knob fell off!
A really relaxing atmosphere in very pleasant surroundings - the garden is delightful and the food had many excellent choices. NO
There appeared to be little if any supervision of the staff. The staff generally seemed to be unhappy about working there. This was expressed by their attitude.
From the moment we arrived at the hotel we liked everything about The Lamb Inn.The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. The hotel was full of character and the interior decoration added to the atmosphere of it.The food in the restaurant was excellent and our bedroom was nicely decorated, comfortable, spacious and clean. Overall our stay was most enjoyable.
charming location, very beautiful building, exellent service
