Pros: All was well, if one allows for the fact that the property is not new. The hosts were very friendly and good at their business. The breakfast was superb - I wish I could find a butcher offering such great bacon. The Harbour Inn provided an excellent fish supper - recommended by our hosts.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and tucked out of the way. Pigeonwood House provided me with the perfect night's sleep after my walk from Wye, along the North Downs Way. There was also a good breakfast the following morning, to set me up for the next stage of my walk.
Cons: There wasn't anything I disliked.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely quite location, very welcoming, amazing views.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Such a lovely location and place. Warm reception on arrival and good advice on options to grab dinner. Perfect stopover before crossing to France.
Cons: Shower was very challenging to not run boiling hot or freezing cold - was ok once finally tweaked.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Mary made us very welcome and we had a very comfortable stay overnight with a great breakfast. There is also a very comfortable sitting room for guests use with comfy sofas and TV, magazines etc. Mary gave us fresh milk for our tea and coffee. It is an old house situated really close to the tunnel (10mins away) but you cannot see the railway as the house is over the hill. Beautiful views across the channel to France. Very narrow lanes to the house but there is not a lot of traffic on them so easy to navigate, would recommend using Mary's instructions on the easy route as they were excellent. There is a garage suitable to get a motorbike in and the position of the house feels secure with no passing traffic. Overall a great stay and we would definitely return.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Mary the owner was lovely and very accomodating. The cooked breakfast was amazing!!!!₩
10.0 Excellent

Pros: The host was absolutely lovely. The place was very nice, little extras like a choice of drinks in room. Shared bathroom but a couple of options and was never an issue. Pros: Lovely people couldnt do enough to help
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I was staying for one night before catching "Le Shuttle" to France; the property is quite convenient for the terminal (about 15mins drive). The room was a good size, very clean, and very comfortable ( a good view over the large attractive garden). The hosts Susan and Angelo were very friendly and helpful. I ordered an evening meal, and an English breakfast, the evening before arriving. This was no problem and both were excellent - it seems Angelo used to own & run a restaurant in Hythe. The meals were good value too.
Cons: I was a little surprised to find the WC, bathroom, and shower room were three separate rooms along the main corridor. However all were very satisfactory.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent coffee, fantastic breakfast, friendly vendor (Sue). Lovely room with everything you would need and more.
Cons: I prefer an ensuite but the facilities were fantastic anyway.

Cons: There was nothing not to like about here
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are very friendly and welcoming, the accommodation is close to the Shuttle/Eurotunnel, the area is very quiet, the room is large and clean. Cons: Room on top floor was so hot, room was tiny. We had to move rooms. I asked for flower petals and towels, did not receive.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location and no problem parking if you arrive early enough. Great view and a nice restaurant and bar area. The room was comfortable - however, there was a portable air conditioning unit which was a bit loud.
Cons: Loud air conditioning unit (portable) - had to switch it off.
7.0 Good
Pros: Drinks were good
Cons: Room was too hot and stuffy
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good, only a 5 to 10 minute walk into town and as the name suggests the views were lovely. There were lovely walks along the top of the cliffs. The staff very friendly and efficient. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was well laid out and there was a choice of continental or cooked. There were fans available as it was hot in the room.
Cons: The room was small and needed some attention as there were several cracks in the walls. We arrived for breakfast when it was busy and we found the last table but the staff struggled to keep up with the demand for replenishing the hot items. It's a shame that there is no parking, only street parking if your lucky.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was excellent value for money, probably the best I have stayed in for that price. Excellent position and despite having no car park, parking was not a problem and was free!! Excellent view from room. Folkestone has come on so much recently with the Creative Quarter and the Harbour Arm making it worth visiting.

Best Western Plus Burlington Hotel - Folkestone - Building
10
8.8 Excellent (1,611 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Set in tranquil surroundings and overlooking the English Channel, the Best Western Plus Burlington Hotel was built in the 1890s and still holds its Victorian charm, whilst offering all the mod cons you’d expect of a contemporary hotel. Just a 10 minute walk from Folkestones town centre and 4 miles from the channel tunnel terminal, it’s the ideal base whether you’re visiting for a break or simply passing through.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Shower was too hot but other than that we had a really good stay
9.5 Excellent
Pros: All of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Not the hotel's fault but the room was very warm due to the outside temperatures. This meant that our Golden Retriever was awake for a lot of the night which kept us awake.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Restaurant was lovely but can’t rate properly as we only stayed for about 6 hours
Cons: Not enough parking
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is good and the staff are fantastic.
Cons: The top floor room with a partial sea view had a very odd ceiling and we kept bumping our heads. The shower was dreadful with very low water pressure. We booked to have dinner on our wedding anniversary but the experience was spoiled as a table of 10 including several noisy children virtually took over the restaurant.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We traveled with our Collie and the place was extra pet friendly! They had a dog bed and bowl prepared in the room in advance and they set a table for us in the bar upstairs so we could have breakfast with our dog. I would definitely recommend and come back!
Cons: Not all the windows opened fully and there were some cobwebs behind the curtains.
6.3 Good
Pros: The reception staff were great! It's convenient for Channel Tunnel. We had a superior room which was spacious with modern bathroom. Loved the coffee bags, but wish we had one each rather than 1 caf and 1 decaf. Shower gel was good quality and sustainably provided.
Cons: The room service- firstly room service is 24/7 except some (most) dishes are only available during restaurant hours. This defeats the point. When the herbi board, which is delicious arrives missing 2/6 items and you are told (when they ask and you alret them) that they will be with you right away and 20 minutes later they are still not there (this is the rape seed oil and olives, not items requiring proper prep) that is not good enough. It was clear the kitchen/chef couldn't give a hoot. I complained and refused to pay for them, which reception accepted. However, there was not offer of a free drink or waiving the £12.50 room upgrade fee. So, first night of our holiday spoiled by the event and then not even 2 cups of caf coffee in the mornining. (See above about the coffee bags) Also parking is very limited so you need to arrive early and be prepared to park on the street and walk to the hotel.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I loved the building and it’s beautiful features. The staff were amazing and the room was decent and clean.
Cons: Breakfast was minimal for the price. For £13 pp I expect hot food cooked to order. The food was very good quality however. Overall the property was a bit of an odd duck. It was going for luxury but there were obvious elements that had been cheaped out on.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient for channel tunnel crossing and the food was excellent
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely big room, spotless.
Cons: Lift was broken down.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location for the beach - matter of minutes walking distance. Free parking outside the hotel. Great big room. Very comfortable stay. Bar was lovely. Such a nice atmosphere.
Cons: No air con or fridge in the rooms. Toiletries were rather basic.

Cons: A bit noisy during the night with traffic going past.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great food, beer and hospitality. Lovely room and location by the sea. Great location for Channel Tunnel.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Shower , Breakfast, cleanliness and friendly staff.

Pros: Very personable host who checked with us to make sure everything was OK.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The landlady was very friendly and helpful. The property is well kept and the family room was cosy and clean. We had everything we needed in the room to make a nice cuppa. The shower was nice with shampoo and shower gels provided. The beds were comfortable and the room was easy to cool down at night with the fan provided and the large window openings. Parking was easy and free between 6pm and 8am (perfect for our stopover to catch the Eurotunnel). The location was great as there’s a nice green and kids park only a 5 minute walk away, and a takeout around the corner. Only about 15 minutes drive to the Eurotunnel too!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were very pleased with our stay here. We booked it at the beginning and end of our holiday to be close to the euro tunnel, to break our travelling up. Margarita is absolutely lovely, facilities were clean, the room was perfect for us (family of 5 all getting to stay in the same room which was a bonus) Price was very good, just 10 minutes away from the euro tunnel. Breakfast was nice too! I would recommend anyone using the euro tunnel and wanting somewhere to stay before/after to book here... especially if you're a family and want to be in the same room for a good price!
Cons: Had no complaints at all. All was as described.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: The rooms are small, the bath even smaller, but everything was very clean. We had two rooms for each 1 adult and 2 kids and that was absolutely sufficient. The host was very friendly and helped us a lot with parking and a load of information reagrding sightseeing, shopping and dinner. Breakfast war individually cooked and really great.
Cons: Bathrooms are very small. Not really a problem for us.

Pros: My family was only one night here, after 1500 km of travelling, so we were very tired and really happy, than we can stay so close to Dover. Very kind and helpful owner (she really help us with parking, she blocked the space for our car. Thank you very much!).
Cons: Room was really small for our family, bathroom and toilet was almost not unusable for my husband (203 cm) and son (198 cm).
9.3 Excellent

Breakfast was tasty and they did take away cups for tea and coffee. They also did baps so you could make a breakfast bap and take it away with you if you needed to get away quick in the morning.
Cons: Husbands ribs were served cold this was quickly rectified and a free alcoholic drink offered

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was nice, clean and comfy, food and drinks were excellent as the hosts. We had a great seaview and peace. Priceless
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We checked in in a bar that hadn’t been changed since the 1950s .A real pub . We were led round to a cottage at the back which overlooked the beach and the sea. Amazing ; fresh milk in the frig for tea , binoculars in the cupboard so wecould look at the French coast . Comfortable bed ; great breakfast ; quality china . What more could you want ? You could pay twice as much and not have this level of thought and care .
Cons: I liked everything
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Warm and welcoming hosts and staff. Hosts went the extra mile to provide vegetarian meals for me on request. Especially appreciated, as the themed meal for the evening of my stay was steak! Lovely ground floor room with its own little patio, right on the sea front. Very comfy bed, good quality toiletries, and plenty of tea and coffee on the welcome tray.
Cons: No car park, due to seafront location.Wi-Fi signal a bit hit and miss, but worked well in the bar and restaurant.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Proximity to channel tunnel
Cons: No air conditioning and windows which didn’t open more than 3 inches. A fan had been placed in the room, but it only moved around the existing hot air . I added 2 more of my own fans but it still didn’t make it bearable. Wife slept in the car! I shalnt be staying there again even though premier inn is my favourite group. In this day and age it’s folly to build a hotel without air on.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Right next to channel tunnel, on-site pubsnd resturant
Cons: Air con didn’t work so we had a fan in the room but needed more
7.5 Good
Pros: Great efficient overnight hotel ideal for channel tunnel travelers.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were superb, very helpful at every opportunity. My wife enjoys the use of a wheelchair and this was one of the best adapted rooms we have come across. Highly recommend location, staff and the quality of the room. We will stay again!
Cons: The room only has heating and a fan. With our summers getting warmer this may not be sufficient in the future particularly as our room was right next to the car park and so . to open windows was out of the question.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent package v close to the Eurotunnel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked how handy it is to the tunnel. Very easy to transfer.
Cons: We have been and stayed several times. Our only observation was that the restaurant looks tired now and need of updating. Our dining chairs were very badly marked.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff made you feel so welcome.. the restaurant staff was great. They served you straight away and waiting time for food was great :)

Rocksalt - Folkestone - Building
16
8.4 Excellent (240 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Folkestone, Rocksalt is within a 15-minute drive of Dover Museum and Dover Castle. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access and multilingual staff.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Right on the harbour with water views from our bed.
Cons: Shower was underpowered.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was lovely, the decor and the location
Cons: The bathroom was very tight and the floor got soaked from the shower, the room was lovely but was very noisy and very hot so was very hard to sleep which was such a shame
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Freindly helpful staff. Great service. Good location. Restaurant menu good. Lovely fluffy towels.
Cons: Is it Rocksalts policy not to make guests bed. More surface areas in room, nowhere to place anything. Instructions on how to use coffee machine would be good.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location with harbour views for two rooms (worth the premium). Great breakfast (over the road at the Rocksalt restaurant - an excellent place for dinner during your stay). Nice, well appointed rooms. Very friendly staff.
Cons: Noisy seagulls may wake you at dawn! Not the cheapest of places to stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely friendly staff. Great breakfast. Enjoyed having dinner at Rocksalt restaurant they have enough staff to keep it running smoothly
6.8 Good
Pros: Location, the room was clean, the breackfast was nice
Cons: No hot water in the room, and a bit noise
7.0 Good
Pros: The manager was excellent and incredibly helpful - top marks. Food was excellent although the Sunday menu is brutally short - I'm sure a couple more options could be added.
Cons: The waiting staff were very friendly and likable but rather slow and forgot orders about three times over drinks and a meal. It also took ages before anyone came over to us and ask us if we even wanted a drink for instance - well we had to ask someone to help us out. We didn't seem to have a dedicated member of staff for our central table so we kept on having to ask different people to help out. This reoccurred through the night. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy so it just seemed they need a bit of energy and whoever trains them to make them focus on concentration and achieving a really good level of service. Having eaten at a lot of places at the same level as Rocksalt, I'd say the service, while friendly is notably at a lower level than many competitors and given this is not a cheap restaurant needs a boot up the backside. The converted rooms seem like a good idea but the room and windows are very small and was really hot, even though it wasn't one of the really hot days of summer. A fan is included but who wants to try and sleep with a fan whirring away all night? Water pressure was so bad that it wouldn't even drive the shower and electrical socket boxes were loose and some didn't work. Seemed like a good idea but not executed very well.
6.3 Good
Cons: We have been to this restaurant a few times over the last few years and we feel it definitely isnt as good as when we first came. We feel it has totally out priced itself, we eat out a lot and we are happy to pay if we feel the food is worth it but we now feel we pay an extortionate amount for food that is just ok, we used to come out and say that was amazing and classed it as one of our favourite restaurant but not anymore, so I think it will be a while before we come back if at all. We chose this restaurant as it was our friends 60th birthday.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The friendliness and obvious happiness of the staff was an outstanding feature. Obviously being able to dine and stay in the same establishment is excellent, and the food completely wonderful.
Cons: Nothing really. The accommodation is located on the harbour which gets busy early and therefore can be noisy but that is to be expected where it is.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Stylish room with comfy bed and good quality bed linen. The sea view and the proximity to the Rocksalt restaurant was a bonus. Slept well and enjoyed the breakfast hamper while looking out over Folkestone Harbour.
Cons: Bathroom tiny but adequate and yoghurt and granola in the breakfast hamper could have been slightly bigger. A bit of confusion about payment - I was told payment had been taken and then it hadn’t but all was resolved before I left.

The Southcliff - Folkestone - Building
1
8.0 Excellent (2,943 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Southcliff, you'll be centrally located in Folkestone, within a 15-minute drive of Dover Museum and Dover Castle. Featured amenities include a business center, express check-out, and a 24-hour front desk. This hotel has 2 meeting rooms available for events.
6.3 Good
Pros: Great location and the price is right. The staff are friendly and helpful. If you have a problem they'll do everything they can to help. The WiFi reaches the rooms (before it was only in the public areas) and is reasonably fast although I wouldn't recommend trying to stream films with it.
Cons: Cleanliness is an issue. We moved into a room where the old shampoo bottles were still in the shower. Towels were not left and, on one occasion, the old towels were left in the bathroom. More attention needed by housekeeping!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed very comfy, close to beach, stuff very helpful and friendly. Peace and quiet. Close to any shops you need. Drinks ar the hotel bar very cheap. Room had old fashion wardrobe but we like it. Love that place
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast
Cons: The lift
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Hotel was very well located. Breakfast was superb.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Perfect location, beautiful setting, comfortable rooms, fantastic staff. I stayed there 3 months ago and it was so great that i went back for another week
Cons: There is absolutely nothing that i can criticise
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very easy to check in and settle.Lovely room and just very good value for money
Cons: Wi-Fi was a bit weak
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Full English Breakfast had generous helpings and well-cooked.
Cons: Confusion about parking. I specifically asked in advance about parking and was expecting to use the parking outside the hotel with an e-permit. Was told parking would be available outside of hotel, but it was all full when I arrived. At weekends and holidays, there is little chance of finding parking on the road near the hotel. However, there was a pay and display car park around the corner which was free between 6pm and 8am, which was fine for me, but this was not clearly communicated at the time of booking. It would be better to clearly state that parking is available only at pay and display, but that it is free overnight, and only then mention the (slim) possibility of being able to park on road using e-permit. This way you manage the expectations of the guests and they are not as disappointed. Better still, the hotel needs to invest in buying a car park for customers. A hotel without proper parking is unheard of in my experience.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Another very good stay. Excellent location, comfortable bed and clean linen. Room had a balcony which had a chair and great view. The room was spacious and had a decent sized desk to work at which was appreciated. Wardrobe was spacious. Tea and coffee provided. Staff friendly and helpful.
Cons: The balcony was spoilt by smokers either side and by encroachment of neighbours across the balcony as it was not divided. Summer brings it share of holidaying folk which is fair enough but quite a lot of noise until after 1am. Parking was surprisingly easy if you are leaving before 8am which I was.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Everyone was lovely. Breakfast quickly servered and the room spacious.
Cons: Nearer the harbour. Not good with hills!!
7.0 Good
Pros: Great location
Cons: The bedroom was a bit dated and the bathroom looked like it hadn't been updated in decades. The shower was next to useless and was very difficult to use without soaking the floor.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast great. Plenty of it and wide variety. All the hotel staff were very helpful. Unexpected bonus was the free parking right outside the hotel entrance. My wife liked the snack bar!
Cons: Nothing that I can think of
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff made a packed lunch for us to take away as we had to leave for the Euro tunnel before breakfast. Good location next to waterfront
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Atmosphere and decor, restaurant was excellent with a good selection of food and beer. Reasonably priced and ideal location for an early morning shuttle to France.
Cons: Nothing!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Room was good old fashioned charm and a lovely size with little extra touches
Cons: Bathroom needed updating . We arrived late and said we’d need room service so our card details were taken . When we phoned up we’re told kitchen closed in-spite of menu offering 24 hr service.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Convenient for channel tunnel, nice sea views.
Cons: Shabby chic without the chic. Probably was clean but gives the appearance of being not so. Bathroom floor 'lino' sealant looked as though it had been applied with a knife and fork. The on street parking. Pleasant staff, but very slow in bar and restaurant. Early start for tunnel so we're given take away breakfast. . No sealed lid on coffee (no warning) which ended up spilt over my wife's top and trousers before boarding train.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location and in-house Costa
Cons: Wheel chair access very steep and hotel lift very small two people with out suitcases
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location
Cons: needs updating
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We had a bar meal which was excellent and good value for money
Cons: Lift being out of order. Meant my wife had to walk up the stairs which was alright but had to make. A decision about how many times she had to go up and down
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean and on the cliff tops with seaview
Cons: Bed was worn out, needs a new mattress, if we had stayed a second night we would have been better on the floor
7.5 Good
Pros: The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was decent.
Cons: The lifts can take two people - just, and one person with luggage. The building is clearly a group of once large terraced house joined together and is a warren of small rooms. On our second night the electronic key failed and this meant descending, (after ascending) the three flights to the ground floor and waiting for the key to be reprogrammed. Then the climb back up. We didn’t use the lift because it was too small and others were waiting.

Pros: Did the job for us.
7.5 Good

Cons: The Windsor is a little tired and dated but the welcome was very warm. The rooms were comfortable and suited us all for an overnight stay. There were 23 if us so we were all greatful for a room for the night. Would stay again for an overnight stop.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Roof was leaking was on third floor
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was easy to find and our room was correctly booked for allowing my family to stay
Cons: It was a little dated but pleasant. The bedrooms need a bit of a make over and updating.

Featured amenities include a business center, express check-in, and express check-out. This hotel has 2 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
5.5 Okay
Cons: The rooms were basic, but that’s to be expected for the price. However what was not expected, was finding urine soaked towels in our cupboard. They tried to mask this by opening the window to no avail. We were shown to a new room, which was in a better state as it didn’t smell like urine. However, the room was a mess, the roof had cracks all throughout, there was obvious water damage throughout the room and on the second day our sheets were merely taken off and dumped on the second bed without changing.
6.8 Good
Pros: Good location for the Chunnel as a overnight stay
Cons: It’s a bit run down but reflected in cheap price
6.3 Good
Pros: Comfy bed.
Cons: Carpet in room was disgustingly dirty! Lift not working. Curtain hanging off both sides. The ground in car park was dangerously pot holed and uneven. ...charged for using the car park, even though the registration was booked in on arrival. The single room we booked for our daughter was so bad, that even the second room offered was so bad that she went home.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: I could hear the sea, that's it!
Cons: Room was dark and sticky and dirty. Room very hot, decor was hideous. Breakfast tables not cleared, dirty juice jugs, coffee tasted weird, no veggie cooked breakfast option. drunk people shouting outside the window late at night.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nice staff very cheap overnight stop, you get what you pay for
Cons: Old, tired
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing trying to get refund from your company only been offered 10 pounds so far very poor
Cons: It was so darty no housekeeping lift no working could not get down stairs for breakfast iam disabled pubic hair on bed lining bathroom sink smashed taps not working shower just a dribble nostaff very poor English people smoking marijuana in reception door way drinking wine from the bottle etc .etc mold on curtains
8.0 Excellent
Pros: free breakfast and the view of the ocean from our room are great.
Cons: the hotel is simply old, and the recent 'renovations' only try to hide its age.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The room was dirty and was literally falling to pieces.
5.8 Okay
Cons: The building is 140 years old and you can feel, smell it and see it. When laying on the bed I could feel the iron feathers of the mattress in my body and fortunately the next day I got another one. In the bathroom there was a thick layer of mold around the bath. The curtain of the windows and the shower curtain contained mold spots.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The receptionist was quite friendly and the waiter for breakfast was polite
Cons: Everything. The place is awful.
6.0 Good
Pros: Very run down hotel, broken banister which isn't ideal when it's on the 3rd floor & have small children. Staff were nice but he was on his own at check In & there was about 7 family's trying to cheack in plus he was also trying to serve at the bar .Not a good start to the trip.
Cons: Decore very dark & dated & breakfast not worth the money.
