The breakfaste and service.
the staff were very friendley and helpfull, good english spoken so that was good being english, the breakfast was excellent value, with a good all round sellection, the hotel was very good value for money, the rooms were cleaned, and supplied with fresh towels each day. I was very happy. It is a little off the beaten track, but for people of moderate fitness this presents no problem, and the busses are regular, and within reach of the hotel.
Convenient and well located. Quiet. Beds were a little dirty.
The facilities were clean and the staff was welcoming. Breakfast was interesting.... So is every breakfast bar at hostel/guesthouse style lodging. I knew what type of facility its was so I knew what I was getting into. All around solid performance.
The breakfast was good, the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and helpful. It wasn't a bad walk to downtown Reykjavik (only 40-50 mins), and it has a beautiful view. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms upstairs were cozy. While there was only one shower/toilet per gender per floor, I only had to wait once to use the bathroom. Mostly, people were polite and did their business quickly. (It helps if you're showering in the evening, I suppose.) The noise from the road is very loud, but if you're tired it doesn't matter. The water from the faucet smelled like eggs (sulfur), but it was't terrible. The water pressure for the ladies' shower on the second floor was pretty bad, but I was still able to get clean.
Guests were mostly international students and fun to visit with them It was more like student dorm. & family hotel and was no 24hr staff to wake you up!! You must have your own alarm clock. I almost missedmy early morning flight because the alarm clock the hotel lent me did not go off!!
Rooms are well-equipped VERY helpful staff breakfast had good quality food and a good variety quiet neighborhood room smelled a bit musty only two toilet/showers per floor of about 10 rooms
Excellent price near the downtown area (not walkable), reasonable accomodations Felt like a lower-end US chain hotel with shared bathrooms. Good for what it is / what you need, but didn't have the character of a guesthouse nor the benefits of a real hotel.
Friendly staff, clean - Noise (doors, highway) - tv quality - monotone breakfast - bathroom needs a facelift
Breakfast was very good Too far away from everything, no transport (shuttle bus did not work) on website the free shuttle bus service was stated, which made taxi transport very expensive
Hotel personnel and breakfeast. Also the possibility to make your own meals Hotel is located just by main road. So if you have the room from road side it can be noisy
Very friendly staff and nice bar downstairs. Modern decor. Rooms are extremely small. Windows are not very tight in cold weather. Location is not great, about 2 miles from downtown.
-Buffet breakfast included was delicious. -The swimming center close by is a must for families! -Rooms were clean, and compact. -Allowed us to check-in at 8am!! -Distance from city center; We had a car rented, so not an issue. -Allowed us to check-in at 8am!! Received a smaller room than booked, but appreciative of the convenience of unloading all our bags immediately.
We had a comfortable room, and the location was a bit far from down town, but it was a great place to stay. There are a variety of restaurants in the two-or-so blocks from the hotel, one is right next door. The best part was one of the desk employees, Arnar. He was super helpful, cheerful, and friendly, but what he really stands out for (IMHO) is how he saved the day when one of us messed up on some reservations. We would have missed the whole thing and lost our money. He made some calls and got us rescheduled and arranged transportation to the event. Whew! I was beyond thankful. He saved the day. Wish we would have had a room with a view.
Nice enough décor Small rooms, limited amenities, somewhat close to downtown, at least 25 minute walk.
The staff who checked us in knew very little about the area, telling us we would have to ride a busy to down town when in actuality it's walkable (w/ a 5 1/2yro) in about 25 minutes. She additionally was no help with bus fair, stops, or routes. We adventured and found our way fairly easily. There is no pool on site, the one they mention is across the highway and down a side street but heated and great for families. The breakfast was mediocre, luke warm food and not many choices. our room faces the parking lot/highway and had windows so dirty it was difficult to see out of them. The room was extremely hot, even after turning the heat off and the noise from outside (cars & people walking to and from partying until 4:30 am) kept us up most of the night. Overall this was the worst nights sleep of our trip & the worst accommodations we had. The whole experience was less than desirable.
20-40 min walk from most attractions. Great proximity to soccer stadium. No gym.
Location! You can not beat the location of the Centrum. Also the front desk staff is awesome. They can book all of your excursions for you and if you would like dinner reservations, they can suggest where and then make the reservations for you. The hotel bar happy hour was excellent if you like beer and craft cocktails. The room size was a little small and there was no place for a second piece of large luggage. Also, even with the radiator in the off position, the room was extremely hot. We were forced to sleep with the windows open. The amount of noise coming from the street from cars and people at all hours of the night caused us not to get a good nights sleep in the 8 days that we were there. I wish I would have brought ear plugs.
Location in town. Ridiculous price for room that had no amenities. Paid five star price for two star motel. Room small, bed uncomfortable. Everything extra.
Outstanding staff. Very clean. Very central. Convenient bar and restaurant. Slow wifi.
cafe and breakfast
It was homely, comfortable room, nice surroundings, fantastic location, love the building on the corner of the centre of Reykjavik, close to the harbour and lots of great restaurants & cafes & museums. Steff were friendly, breakfast was nice. Breakfast was pricey especially when you could get a huge cooked breakfast and warm coffee down the road for less. tea and coffee facilitirs in the room were poor, there were 2 of us and they didn't have pairs of the same kind of tea bag, no milk, small cups, little sugar, we bought ours from the supermarket. Internet which we paid for kept stopping working but when we called it was fixed and when we mentioned it again at checkout it was deducted from our bill, so was ok in the end.
It was clean, desk staff were pleasant The hotel had messed up the reservations. My reservation through Kayak was fine. However, a hotel block that was to be released 45 days before my arrival was still on the books (I was joining a hiking group) and they tried to get me to pay for that supposed reservation. In talking with the agency that had arranged the room block for this particular hiking group, this is not the first time that this hotel has done this. In addition, a friend of mine who had confirmed her reservation at Hotel Centrum before leaving the US, received an e-mail that they were overbooked and she had to go to another hotel---even though Hotel Centrum had double bookings and indeed did have rooms.
Having travelled extensively around the world, it was a pleasure to be greeted by service minded, smiling, friendly staff. The hotel was relaxing and stressless. Maybe, a little more attention should be made to controlling the facilities inside the room. Ensure things are regularly maintained in the bathrooms with drips, leaks, and edges correctly sealed with silicon. Minor issue, but essential to retain the hotel profile
Staff are very helpfull , location of the hotel - it is very central.
Close to old parts of town. In fact, hotel is built over museum for first settlement.
The hotel is centrally located in Reykjavik and next door to some excellent restaurants. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area.
The Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in giving suggestions about places to visit, providing maps of the city, and arranging the shuttle to the airport. The Location is perfect, right in the centre of the city and close to shops, restaurants, the city lake, and sites. I think it's so unique that the hotel is above a Viking settlement (museum). I Loved this hotel! Although the breakfast is great, I do think it's a bit pricey per person (14 euros or $18 canadian).
Location was good. Parking was listed but it was public parking. We had to drive around and parked a few blocks away.
Friendly and helpful very nice could not have found a better spot! It did rain a day or two but no trouble otherwise
Cafe area, easy access to Sadcars No top sheet, blanket charged extra, rooms colder than hall even with 10 people, no laundry
Great location; you can walk to everything. Beautiful bar ! Breakfast is ok a bit expensive for what you get
Comfortable, spacious Random breakfast policy. First stay breakfast included, second stay was charged.
Very well located, nice hotel with wide rooms and good service
The hotel is in a great spot downtown, easy walking distance everywhere. It has a Northern European modern design, simple but elegant. Love the old building. Hot water kettle in the room is awesome after exploring. Staff was courteous and friendly. The bathrooms do not seem to match the rest of the room and hotel feel. They need to be updated.
The location was very convenient to the downtown shops and restaurants. The selection of weights in the gym was quite good for a hotel of this size. There were free bottles of Icelandic water in the gym. The room was very clean and quiet, and the bed was very comfortable. The desk staff did their job with no special warmth or friendliness.
Great location.Quite, clean rooms.
Close to nearby sights and attractions. Good place to stay if only in Reykjavik for a night or 2 and want to shop and see local attractions. The description said there was parking but there isn't. Parking meters are all around hotel but need to be fed every 2 hours.
Excellent staff (especially Anna at the front desk), excellent location! Great room! Nothing!
The friendliness of the staff is unparalleled. The rooms were crisp looking in general. It was decorated elegantly in black white and touches of gray. There were some unused tissues lying on the floor outside of our room for the duration of our stay. They also had a funky smell that we couldn't get rid of. But overall the hotel look beautiful. And the staff was very accommodating
The room was very clean and the hotel is lovely. Breakfast tasted good. The room was really small. The bathroom doesn't look like it has been updated. They don't tell you the price of anything like breakfast, pay per view, mini bar. We would have potentially bought somethings,, but we were too afraid because we didn't know how much they would charge.
The location was excellent.
Beautiful rooms, nice shower & bath facilities, lines were very nice and overall a great hotel.
Great value for money, spa, 15min walk to city centre, free parking, internet included
The restaurants and the spa. The rooms are getting old.
The service is great, along with it being easily accessible to the area without being right in downtown/touristy area. View is pretty nice of the city from afar too. We enjoyed the hotel for 4 days while doing day trips around the ring road then walking to the nightlife or hotel bar in the evenings. The staff is pretty accommodating to any needs - the bartending staff had a real knowledge of the area and great tips. I would maybe stay here again, but bring my own pillows next time. It is a bit outdated in terms of decor - but the real issue is the pillows. There was nothing to them and it left us with terrible neck strain. Wifi didn't work in our 6th floor room, but they tried to accommodate by placing a hotspot nearby - yet removed it before the end of our stay.
Large variety of breakfast, helpful staff, rooms with a view. The bathroom didn't seem to have been cleaned from the previous occupant. The kettle was rusty but was replaced immediately after my request.
Staff was great. Good location but a 15 min walk to the city center with its shops and eateries. Rooms were "used" at best. A lot of wear and tear and small holes and dents in walls and doorways. Some non functioning amenities and even issues with one of the elevator banks.
The rooms we stayed in were clean and well-kept, the staff was very courteous and the location is ideal. If you're not afraid of a little walking (or if you're from NYC and think nothing of it) then you'll be pleased by how quickly you can get to the city center without using the buses or the very expensive cabs. The view was lovely and the restaurant on the ground floor was a very enjoyable meal and reasonably priced compared to the normal Icelandic fare. We stayed at the hotel for slightly more than a week and used it as a staging point for a variety of tours. I mention this because it seems like a fairly common practice here, and tour drivers will actually come into the lobby and collect you. In our case one of the tours was cancelled and the hotel staff handled all the logistics for rescheduling it. Our reservation came with access to their daily breakfast buffet, which is quite large and served as a great meal to get us started before our tours. Like many homes and hotels in iceland, this building gets its hot water directly from a hot water system below ground. There are some places you might stay that get their hot water from a local geothermal plant. This is not one of them. This means that the Saga's hot water has a slight sulfur smell to it. It's perfectly safe and even drinkable, but the taste and the smell is not pleasant. Knowing this ahead of time would not have made me cancel my reservation, but I think this kind of thing is good to know before you arrive. Laundry is expensive. I sent down about two weeks' worth of Tshirts, socks, and underwear for a single person and it ran about 70 USD. We would still rather have used the local laundry than packing twice as many clothes, but that price stings a bit, especially for simple cotton garments.
Breakfast buffet included with room. Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Free parking.
- Great price - 10 minute walk to downtown - Good breakfast - Good wifi - Very worn linens and furniture - Bed was not the most comfortable
This is a avery poorly maintained hotel. The staff is not very informative about the Iceland and very unhelpful to customers. The rooms are not cleaned properly and customer complaints not attended promptly. In my five days stay, my room telephone never worked, shower head never fixed, it took two days tho fix the locker. I had to visit the front desk several times to complain but not much was done. Overall it was a very unpleasant experience. We were a group of 15 people that could not call room to room - had to use what is app to communicate and coordinate activities. So sad
The room was super clean, had many amenities and was well appointed (bathrobe, slippers, plenty of towels, a safe, cable Tv and radio, Wifi, some complimentary toiletries, coffee &coffee maker, cork screw, many lamps, great system of curtains, bath tub and shower, etc.). The hotel itself also had many amenities: there are three dining options there ( award winning restaurant, moderate restaurant, and bar fare), a spa and hairdresser in the basement, a bar/lounge with happy hour, a polite and helpful staff, a tourist shop, etc.
The staff on the reception could not have been more helpful, phoning to check on trips we had arranged and taking the hastle out of hiring a car.First class service. thanks 15 min walk to town
Nothing, probably sauna.
Great service, friendly staff, range of services. 1-> Standard single room is extremely snug. Marvel of engineering how they are able to fit all the necessities into such a small area without compromising on available amenities. 2-> location from core downtown. Several free shuttles are provided however, the frequency is limited to a handful per day which may limit flexibility when sightseeing, etc.
Clean and quiet rooms. A poorly communicated fire drill at noon while having an infant sleeping in the room is a life event.
clean, good parking, good food management very inflexible on check out time. a 1 hour extension would have cost 25 US$.
Great view of the bay, executive lounge was first class.
Spa, staff, dining Need for a cab to get downtown
Very friendly staff, good food, beautiful room.
I enjoyed the high end quality from top to bottom of the hotel! It was immaculate, stylish and staff was helpful and enjoyable. I would have preferred to have been closer to downtown so I could walk to the downtown area. However, that would mean having a big hotel in the middle of a great little town. I understand that they are building something closer to town that fits in to the surroundings, so I'll have to try that when it opens.
Staff helpful and courteous. Everything was clean, tidy and well presented. The food was very good and the breakfast to die for!!
The hotel was pretty good, however, nothing extremely special. It is for people who like an extra touch but do not go into extremes.
It was a good value for the money. Nice, airy rooms and I enjoyed being able to walk around the neighborhood. The hotel cost for breakfast was high. I have stayed at 2 other Reykjavik hotels in the last 5 years and breakfast was always included. The selection was fine but $20.00 us equivalent was high. I prefer the breakfast at Hotel Bjork and it was included in the room cost. Also the shuttle to town was conveneient but not the return to the hotel. It was inconvenient and wse had to take a taxi back both days because their was so much time to wait before 6 pm. I would like to see at least 2 other trips in that schedule.
The staff was very helpful and friendly, the restaurant was excellent. You can book tours from the operator in the lobby. Great views from our top floor room. We definitely recommend that you stay here and enjoy the beautiful country. Location is just a wee bit far away but buses or a short walk will get you downtown and closer to more dining choices
Modern hotel with efficient staff. Spacious and clean. 20 minutes walk to town. Very expensive restaurant which even by Icelandic standards was just too much. We ate at Pizza hut around the corner.
24 hours reception, close to the center
Restaurant at top floor with views that make your breakfast memorable. Nice room. Free of charge parking.
Location near the city center. Transportation from the airport well organised. Nice view from the breakfast room. The window did not close properly, bringing important noise from the street.
The location is excellent Cleanliness in the rooms could be improved - when we arrived the sheets had not been changed in our bed + the toilet had not even been flushed !! Also the young man at the reception was quite rude when we checked in - he wanted me to pay the bill right away and when I said I would pay it when we leave the hotel he simply threw the room keys on the desk and wanted to check my credit card details.
Clean, good location, decent breakfast, good views from breakfast (from the 8th floor), parking nearby, looks very new and modern, managed to get an awesome deal making it very good value at 88eur per night for two (even compared to youth hostels if comparing overall service and location) Small room, no wardrobe, bad view to the back, no proper curtains, lots of slamming of doors from other guests, sold out for dinner at 10pm
The design of the hotel is great. Its very modern and sleek. The views are fantastic. Whether you're at the Sky Lounge or the comfortable lobby, you can clearly see the beautiful harbor and mountain range. The location of the hotel is also great. Its right by the downtown area and can easily walk to the strip without the barrage of traffic. The hotel is also 5 minutes from many museums and shops by the harbor and beyond. Because of the central location, space is tight. The room offers minimal storage and the bathroom has a convertible shower that takes advantage space. The design was beautiful but the quarters were close. The breakfast was OK. It was the first meal I had where fish was not an option. The crumbled eggs were dry and actually crunchy. Bacon was either burnt or raw. However, the view from the top of the hotel easily distracted these inconveniences.
Nice rooms, comfortable beds.Very good location.Buffet breakfast good including Icelandic selections. Bathroom small and modernist rather than functional.
design hotel and great breakfast no
Lovely linens and light airy rooms. The fact the it is adjacent to a large construction site and this was not advertised. Hairs on the bed when I checked into my room. Poor value for money.
Our room was kept quite clean. We also paid a 10 euro charge to use the spa area which was a very nice ammenity. There was very little room for unpacking clothing and storing luggage. However my wife and I were able to manage with the hanging rods and shelves provided (no dressers). The shower is a bit odd since there is no tub and just a swinging door, but after the first use we figured out how to minimize the wetness and made sure to shower with the door and window cracked to remove moisture more quickly. As others said, there is an issue with air circulation but we opened the window and were fine (we were there mid September). However this may not be a workable option during the winter. There was also construction which unfortunately blocked some of the panoramic views but was surprisingly quite and did not seem to interrupt our rest.
great location, quiet as can be but near everything in the centre-- lovely room with amazingly comfy bed, and terrific staff. Breakfast is great, as well! Terrific hotel! not applicable.
Easy to get to (Flybus+), clean & comfortable, internet pc, washing & drying facilities available for guests to use (a pleasant surprise as I don't remember seeing this on the website). Plenty of food at breakfast. Easy walking distance from the main shopping area. Problem with a blocked drain (which had been fixed when I returned for my second visit), washbasin in room (2nd stay) had no plug and tv would not stay on-channel.
We appreciated the computer, the staff were very friendly and helpful, receiving packages and messages for us. The rooms were clean. Location was very accessible and staff was very accommodating in dropping off large amounts of luggage early One member of our 7 , had a bad mattress. Some oil or wd 40 on some of the squaky doors would help a lot.
I've been travelling quite a lot staying in many hostels recommened by Lonely Planet and other guidebooks, but I find Floki as the best one (sleepingbag dormitory). Staff is increadibly friendly and helpfull, Internet connection great. As people staying in the Floki come to Iceland for different purposes (business, holidays), it isn't a place where you meet bunch of drunk backpackers. a kitchen is great with a dinning part nicely arranged. During a high season you might wait in a queue when going to a bathroom.
Location close to Reykjavik sites, but very quiet. Staff were helpful and friendly, helped us with dropping off a rental car and info about getting to the airport, etc.
It was great to have the fridge, tea and coffee facilities as well as a computer with free internet access in the room. The bathroom and washbasin in the room was not cleaned during our stay which I missed a bit.
Floki is a smaller, family-run operation which is efficient but also personable. The facilities look like a cottage with a dining annex. My room, though small, was clean, well appointed in an IKEA style, easy to access and had free wireless. The nearby shared restroom was also well-kept. The breakfast was delicious and the dining lounge is spacious and sunny. The proprieter is very welcoming and helped me to order a cab for a very early morning flight to the airport. Also, one day I'd accidentally locked myself out and didn't realize it until I was down the street, but upon my return I found the key back in the door, no problem. It's not luxury, but the service is excellent. Support local businesses and stay at the Floki The only thing I found a bit challenging was the location; Hotel Floki is located on a busy thoroughfare a few blocks walk from one of the main shopping streets leading towards the more quaint historic district and the waterfront. So if you are self-catering you will need to walk a bit to get food. But otherwise it's a great place to stay.
No problem with check in in the middle of the night. Friendly people at the reception. Clean and comfortable and good value for money.
The night shift staff is friendly and helpful. The room is very basic but clean. The location is a bit far from the city center (10 minutes walk) but it was in a quiet neighborhood and I had great sleep. Great value for the rate that I paid... The bathroom could be cleaner.
For problems with the suit-cases and with arrangements with the car rental service and immediately and one helped uncomplicatedly.
Cheap, nice and helping staff, basic but had everything you need Smelly room without proper air ventilation. Not so clean toilet (downstairs)
They were very Eco-friendly and "green." Pretty clean and modern. The staff was not very accommodating at all. I reserved a superior room with a double bed, and they gave us 2 twin beds. After speaking with the front desk, all they could tell us was that they are fully booked, and that you're never guaranteed the type of bed you want, but we could push the 2 twin beds together if we'd like. No, thank you. We were only staying there for one night, so we decided not to push the issue. Checkout is at noon, but after reading the hotel info they provide you with in the room, I saw they offer late checkout at 2pm as an option. So, that evening I called the desk to request late checkout, and the woman I spoke with could not give me a yes or no. She said I have to speak with the day staff. I called at 8am the following morning and the woman informed me again that they are fully booked. Ok, but I'm just asking to check out at 2pm. Check in for any new guests is at 4pm. That still gives cleaning crew 2 hours to get the room ready for any new guests arriving. I even tried to compromise and say can we at least stay until 1pm? We were catching the shuttle to the airport at 2pm from the hotel, and didn't have anywhere to go for 2 hours if we checked out at noon. She told me they could hold our luggage and we could go downtown and shop. No, I'm not risking missing the airport shuttle because you told me to go to town and spend $$. So after me asking the same question in 4 different ways, she finally said ok, you can check out at 1pm. Well wow! Thanks a million, Grand Hotel. We won't be staying with you on our next trip to Iceland.
The duvet. Very comfortable. The breakfast is included and very filling, especially to brave the cold of Rekyavik. The staff did mess up our tour reservation once and we had to ask management time and again for something to be done about it. The desk in the room had some coffee stains and the shower door does not prevent the water from going all over the bathroom! Plus the hotel was definitely a bit distant from city center.
Breakfast Buffet was excellent, lots of nice areas to sit in in lobby and restaurant. Nice staff.
Luxury hotel Location was a bit away from the city centre. Taxi cabs are very expensive.
Nice parking lot Room was very warn, sheets did not fit the bed and furniture was dirty. Staff was not friendly. The hotel was not inexpensive and was probably the second worst I have ever stayed in. I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel.
They have all the basics. The hotel may be good for large groups/bus loads of people who need a place far from city center to rest for a night. Politely rude staff: At 1:45 PM and earlier they say "Checkin is at 2 PM". Service Industry speak for Piss Off. 1:58 PM, "Your room is not ready". 2:02 PM, "We don't know if it is ready" (communication problems with housekeeping?) They sometimes seemed annoyed answering questions people had about how to go somewhere in the city or which day excursions are available. "Here's a brochure." is their typical answer. They never tell you the actual details of where to go or what to expect. Rooms were very basic. Tiny pillows on bed. Two cotton comforters on double bed, each was the size of a large towel. Breakfast and Dinner are very over priced.
The hotel was very clean, staff were helpful, our room had a beautiful view of the city and the water, and the room itself was nice. The double bed fit two large adults easily, which was a concern when we were booking. The bathroom also included a tub in addition to the shower. The lobby area was nice with large doors to see out when waiting for tour guides or cabs, and was filled with pamphlets of various activities. Hair dryer/iron & board/mini fridge and laundry service pick up available. The location was a bit further from the city than anticipated, it's listed as a medium walking distance, it is walkable, just not desirable on cold/rainy nights, approximately 20kr cab ride. The dinner buffet was fairly expensive and we didn't really care for it, we preferred the restaurants around the corner or in town and the cost was similar or less, potentially regular ordering tasted better than the buffet. No shampoo/conditioner/lotion, I always bring my own, but wanted to note.
Easy access, lots of parking, modern building and rooms Great to see Monaco and Cyprus Olympic teams there too,
Fosshotel Lind is very convenient for central Reykjavik and also for going on tours. Once Carpe Derm is back in operation it will be back to being a very good all round hotel.
Located in the center of the town Old hotel with traces of humidity in the bathroom
Near the town centre. Free car parking. Reasonable cost. Clean and cosy. Rooms were small. Limited tv channels.
Nice place, clean, good breckfast ,perfect location for a couple of night during Iceland classic ring tour.
Friendly and helpful staff We would have liked tea making facilities in our room or available as room service
location, hotel staff lack of cleaning in room, especially the floor. Rooms a bit small.
-Staff allways friendly and most of the time hepfull -nice breakfast- buffet (excepted the orange juice) -close to the main shopping street -private parking -Free wireless internet not availlable in the room like advertised. I got a signal in the room and after I asked I got a key at the reception. The key didn't work. Later on, I was told, the network wouldn't need a key at all. You may be lucky enough to find this hotspot in the room, but connection isn't possible at all because the signal-strength is far to low. I suppose they have wrong set up the wlan on that flor (or in the entire hotel?), because it had a WLAN-Router on the wall near my room. I suppose that was the secured signal I found. Unfortunately, staff had no real solution for this problem. -Orange juice wasn't real juice, more some kind of orange-colored water
The loacation is quite good, not far from the city center, easy to walk They have rooms ready after 16. 00 ! Unbelievable system!
Kind staff Ordered meals for conference was not always on time. There eas no toaster for the toast bread for breakfast
Tyeblocation, size of the room, value and the included breakfast No way to wash our clothes, no hot tub and only five channels to choose from
Hotel was walking distance to shopping. Had a small kitchen with burners, microwave, refrigerator and dishes. Stayed 4 nights and made dinner 3 of those nights.Going out to eat very expensive Bonus (supermarket) is just 2 blocks away. Staff is extremely helpful. We arrived at 8am and there was a room ready for us. Make sure you get to breakfast on time. Close doors exactly at 9:30 and by 9:15 slim pickings on options. It could be that it is early but staff wasn't that welcoming for breakfast. Just basic offerings - toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, meat, cheese, yogurt. Was fine for us but for those who like a hot breakfast it isn't available They cut fruit in half so for those of you who like to grab and apple for later in the day that isn't an option.
the staff was excellent! no traditional icelandic dishes at the restaurant of the hotel
The rooms and location were excellent. The breakfast was included but not that impressive.
Everything. This place was fantastic. The Staff was helpful, the location can't be beat; you're in the middle of town, on the main street. walking distance to shops and restaurants. Nice size room, fridge - really the best value / location we stayed in Iceland. Good breakfast options compared to other places we stayed. Recommended. Nothing
Location and price. None.
Nice, clean, spacious rooms
The location was excellent. Also, the staff was very helpful during our stay.
Best location for shopping, central to the city. Complimentary breakfast is a great way to start the day--so convenient! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again! Although I didn't experience any noise (staying early in the week), I could foresee noise issues near the weekend and in the summer.
We booked a double room and it was really more like a one bedroom. Had a stove and separate seating area, was clean and we had no problems with noise!
The location. Breakfast.
Walking distance to most of towns best sights and restaurants. Felt very safe and the breakfast was great. I would stay here again. Parking was hard to find. That is to be expected when staying in any downtown area. Dining is expensive everywhere in Iceland. For a one in a lifetime place to see. It was still worth it.
This review is about the two floors of the hotel which are a hostel, not a hotel. They lend you a tiny (nearly a joke, I guess) lock to put on the small cubby boxes in the room. 1000ISK deposit. The kitchen contains dishwashers. I stayed in a room with 12 or 14 beds. The doors on these rooms are "underdamped", meaning they are designed or adjusted to slam very very loudly if you let them close by themselves. It shakes not just the room, but is even obnoxious during the day if you're in a common kitchen or lounge down/across the hall. The door in my room was slammed AT ALL HOURS of the day except 12h30 -- 03h00 a.m. by the absurdly inconsiderate guests. The problem is that there is no effort by the hostel to tell people how to behave, and for some reason a large cross-section of the sample of young travellers in my room seem entirely oblivious to the surely-obvious effects of their actions on other people. There were no quiet hours announced. No one was told to close doors quietly. I was dumbfounded how people stayed up shouting, drinking, etc inside the dorm room (there are couches) until midnight, even when others were obviously trying to sleep, and the same people when they were on a different schedule, were up at 03h a.m. sharp talking loudly, and slamming the door countless times again. I mentioned to the staff that there was an educational solution (maybe) to this problem, but they didn't seem very interested. In addition to all that, the rooms, which look nothing nice as clean as in the pictures online (of course), have little cubby boxes below the beds where you supposedly can lock your valuables. The locking tabs are a bit of a joke, maybe, but in my room several were actually broken off anyway, so there was no way to lock them. This was my worst hostel experience ever.
Friendly staff, decent location, clean dorms, nice locker for suitcase. Not having bathrooms for both sexes on both sides of the floor. Layout of dorms not great. Bad internet
laid back fun atmosphere There was nothing I didn't like
Classy breakfast buffet, wide spaces in the dorm rooms, not too cramped, evening shift front desk worker "Gary the Great" is a not a cool friendly dude, but extremely helpful.
Very good location. The staf was friendly and the high speed internet connection was highly appreciated. Soundproofing needs to be improved, we could hear people talking in the room next to us, even though they were talking low.
Quiet location, but 10 min walk to everything. Breakfast buffet (hot) included. Absolutely best staff attentive, accommodating, engaging. Houses one of the finer restaurants in the city plus a nice bar downstairs. Tea and coffee and mini bar in the room. Would absolutely stay again. Single rooms on the top floor are drafty because of the balcony doors.
Friendly and helpful staff, good location. Two single beds used as a double, very uncomfortable.
Very good staff, clean and comfortable, splurge restaurant. Arranged several details including transfers and day trips via the staff. Quick walk to old town in both directions - reflecting pool or Hallgrimskirka. Solid. Not cheap, rooms are not large, but that's not their fault.
Very noisy from street traffic. This may turn me away from visiting again.
Excellent Location, Great Service, Fabulous Restaurant. They even gave us a free upgrade as they were not too fully booked. The staff were very friendly and could help with anything. Certainly a great base from which to enjoy the City of Reykjavik or from which to take any of the multiple day tours on offer (which the staff were helpful and informed of to help organise). I will stay here again next time.
The art. Wi-fi availability. Friendliness of the staff. Warm a touch of traditional and old fashion The rooms were just a little tired but nothing a make-over wouldn't fix. Could hear the traffic a little too much.
hotel de charme .... we really enjoyed our stay there. everything was perfect!!!
The art gallery and the food. The entire hotel is like a huge art gallery. The staff is very friendly and the kitchen excellent. I can recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Reykjavik.
Helpful staff, good location. Room was quite small
Great location, warm, older, traditional design, great staff. Needs to reinvest some money back in the hotel for a makeover. TV's in rooms were 1970 models with fuzzy reception, computer's downstairs were slow and weren't able to print.
The young lady receptionist there helped me a lot re the confusion of tour operator about location of picking me up. Really appreciate it.
Easy to find, breakfast excellent, room had a great view.
calmness windows in the roof
Hotel is very easy to access to all location. They need to clean up the icy walkway
Nice room, comfortable bed, clean, central, value-for-money, free parking - stayed in the historical room :) Building is kinda ugly, but so are many of Reykjavik's newer buildings. Internet charge introduced recently, relatively expensive (~USD10/day)
everthing was ok
Location Little expensive
Although Reykjavik is hardly the largest city in the world, this hotel is ideally located for the nightlife, and if you get the right room, an fantastic sea/mountain view is possible. The room was described as 'small' but we found it adequate enough. Being in the attic of the hotel, the room is fitted with roof windows and the window blind was not sufficient to keep out the early morning light - not too bad in April but could be a real problem during the height of summer.
The hotel staff were very accommodating and eager to please. The rooms were spacious. The location was fantastic. The room had a beautiful view of the harbor, was close to the city center, yet was relatively quiet. No complaints.
I liked the most Estonian administrator, she was helpful! I would not say the same for the other administrators, but she was an impression. Lots of thanks to her! She a real treasure of this hotel! I didn't like shower, it is too small and I can not imagine how to clean my feet in this soo small cabin when wet curnain is glued to my wet body! Yak! And also the room was not always clean, trash was not always removed even if it was full. One day I staid in a room for only 1 hour but cleaning girls acted like it was the only possible time to clean the room and left it not cleaned.
Friendly staff, close to centre
