Guesthouse Husky - Ivalo - Building
1
9.5 Excellent (319 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Set on a dog farm in Finnish Lapland, this family-run guest house offers traditional home cooking and husky safaris. Sauna and WiFi access is free. Ivalo Airport is 15 km away, an 18-minute drive away. Guesthouse Husky’s wood-panelled rooms feature basic furnishings, a TV and a private bathroom. Communal kitchen and laundry facilities are also available. From October until May, guests can enjoy pre-booked dinners with a true taste of Lapland. Free tea/coffee is available all day. Guests can use the free internet computer in the lobby or relax by the fireplace in the dining room. Husky Guesthouse staff can book snowmobile trips with a nearby operator. Cross-country skis and snowshoes can be rented on site. Lake Inari is 20 minutes’ drive away and is known for its trout, arctic char and whitefish.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff is welcoming, the guesthouse is clean and warm, the husky tour with Hendrix was great (nice to have a break in the middle to warm up around a fireplace, and talk about lappon culture). We can visit the dogs on the morning or afternoon, once they are back from their trips. We took dinner there twice, and both were delicious. Cherry on the cake, we could even see a northern light from the garden !
Cons: Nothing! If you have a light sleep, note that we can hear dogs all the night long (we found it very nice, but could bother some people). Also, it is better to have a car as it is quite isolated, 10 mins drive from ivalo.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: All is very good, friendly staff, wooden house, remote place not far from the town, airport and all facilities, very easy to find, dinner was tasty and husky tour is a must
Cons: There is only 1 inside table in the kitchen, I think it's possible to add one more otherwise guests always need to wait until the others have finished (in winter, in summer there are outside tables)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room, homemade meal, sauna, huskies safaris - everything was perfect! Thank you for your assistance and help prior visit planning and during our stay in Ivalo. Wish you the best and good luck!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremely attentive specially for the persons who took care of the Huskies. You can feel how much they love the Huskies.
Cons: The family room could be a little bit warmer and more comfortable. Adding a carpet on the floor would be nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place, comfortable, clean, spacious, very quiet in the forest. Good breakfast, kitchen at customer disposal. Very good!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The facility was elegant in a rustic way. The saun area was beautiful. The staff friendly and professional. Because the place has 140 husky dogs it is an ideal place for dog lovers. We were there at summer time but at winter they offer husky safaris. That would be an amazing experience.
Cons: The facility is about 4km from the main highway at the end of a gravel road. A bit remote.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Guesthouse Husky felt like a home away from home in the European deep north. The team was awesome and we found this to be an awesome base to explore the area. Bonuses - the breakfast was awesome (including some super nice home made jams) and puppies!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, services, cleaning, friendly staf
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cozy room, lovely dogs and puppies, awesome homemade dishes and exciting husky safari...Everything there was really great!! You need to arrange the transport to get there as it is located a bit far from the airport (middle in the forest?), but that environment enables you to see the northern light just behind the lodge.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!! I couldn’t fault anything at all. The room, dinner, shower (Rain shower) and the staff were all 5 stars! The 4 hours husky excursion was beyond our expectation!!! Guide Posi and Roman were attentive and answered all the questions we had! Definitely would recommend anyone to book and stay with them!
Cons: Errrr... NOTHING!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I appreciate the attitude of the staff to manage our late arrival. Therefore, the check-in was wery easy. Room was big enough, clean. I can imagine longer staying. The guesthouse is in the woods, you can take a walk around. Breakfast was excellent - besides usual, there was home-made porridge, jams and some salmon meal.
Cons: Shared kitchen was pretty small. Dogs were barking loudly. It is bit far from the town, but that can be a pro for someone.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: MAGICAL !!!
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Near to airport. Nice staff. Our guide from cross country ski was quite an character who shared many things with us.
Cons: We were arranged in the cabin surrounded by group of loud Chinese tourists. It would be nice if the individual tourists cabin were separated from theirs if possible.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was absolutely delicious, the staff was very nice and never failed to fulfill every request we had. The outdoor activities were truly stunning and created moments that we will never forget in our life. The cabins are also quite unique and would make for an excellent honeymoon if you can handle the cold weather.
Cons: There is not a single thing I did not like. If I were to suggest ideas for improvement I would say that they could at something to mount a GoPro on the equipment for the snowmobiletour (and maybe the husky tour as well but we did not have enough time to do that), but that is just high level complaining.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The cabin
Cons: The food
10.0 Excellent
Pros: of course the big window!!! And I like the shampoo and body lotion
Cons: I like everything here
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing views and surroundings! Great customer service. The beds were super comfy!
7.5 Good
Pros: Lovely staff, great snowmobile excursions, good food.
Cons: For the price of the room I would expect to have "Finnish national pass time" sauna to be included at least, communal area to sit and chill not big enough.

Pros: Very kind and helpful staff...made us to feel in every way so comfort.Sauna was great and the pool for my legs.Breakfast very good. For starting we stayed 2 days, then moved Murmansk for 3 days and back to hotel Ivalo for 2 days.We have not got any negative moments or feelings in hotel Ivalo.
7.5 Good
Pros: Minibar for consumption when available
Cons: No heater in room when checked-in
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff at reception. The room was very comfortable and windows had mesh to stop insects getting in. Good bathroom with excellent shower. Car parking was excellent.
Cons: Only fault with the hotel was the WiFi system which was very poor. The signal was too weak to be useable in room 112 and could only be used if standing beside the door to the corridor. WiFi is important now and this system was not for purpose.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A better location for a stay in Ivalo would be difficult to find, the hotel being situated scenically by the river and in a quiet location by the outskirts.
Cons: The receptionist on duty was not unfriendly, but lacked the welcoming spirit that we had come to expect during our stay at other Finnish hotels.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: I was there for one night and it was off season so the hotel was quiet. Out my bedroom window was the riverbank lined with birch trees and the river with a dock and skid-doos available. Sauna newly renovated and good. The hotel was very comfortable and the staff helpful. Good beer in the bar where I ate dinner and a lot of menu options for dinner. Breakfast included in cost of stay. The airport is only 15 min drive and its new, small and easy to manage.
Cons: Bathroom needed some updating.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice breakfast, quiet location at the river
Cons: Could do with some refurbishing
7.5 Good
Pros: There is a buffet twice a day. 24 euros for the evening, 3 courses, lots of choice and a good atmosphere. Entertainment later if you want it. There is also a la carte. Club nord on site offers activities and I thought the husky dog ride was fab.
Cons: The mattresses were quite thin. There's not too much in Ivalo to do, we had 2 nights which was enough but we were lucky and saw the northern lights from the frozen river behind the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The sauna facility is a great place for having a relaxed evening. Afterwards we enjoyed a very good dinner in the restaurant (Reindeer Burger). The breakfast was great. Great place for our short stop-over.
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Well situated and excellent hotel
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a 20 minute walk away from Ivalo village which has shops and supermarkets. Within the hotel lobby is the Club Nord office opening at 0900hrs; https://clubnord.info/ , which will arrange all your excursions providing suitable warm weather clothing and crash helmets. With the hotel location next to the frozen river in winter, it provides excellent access for; snowmobiles, snow shoe walking etc. Evening meal in the restaurant is either buffet or a la carte. After a busy day out and about, what better way to unwind in the; sauna, pool or jacuzzi.
Cons: not a lot. Did not see the northern lights at the hotel location, but that is mother nature for you.

Pros: Special Thanks to staff for your atencions, specially the up grade to Aurora House 3, and the hike trail recommendations. Was an amazing experience. Thanks a lot.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean small cabin with fridge and microvawe oven. Quiet. Walking distance to the village. Close to the river.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable cabin with cooking facilities
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is very clean and conveniently located (groveries, fuel, etc within a few kilometers). The room came with all the equipment promised.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place once you get there. Good, friendly, helpful staff. Good food in restaurant. Comfortable room with good bed, all clean. Awesome view of river valley and mountains from large picture window. Just a few minute walk down to the river bank.
Cons: If you do not have a car, as I did not have a car, it is a 40 minute walk or $12.00 taxi to the bus stop in the small town. Hotel is located outside town on a former reindeer farm. The long walk is a bit of a drag if you have luggage, along a windy, hilly road that goes out from the village center. The hotel says that it is only a 2 km walk from the road junction but it took me 40 minutes to walk there from the bus stop, which is near the market in the village.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and cozy.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: - Comfortable cabin. - New kitchen building
Cons: - No laundry. - No cutlery in kitchen. (Maybe because it’s just opened and the season was not started)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice cabin.
Cons: A lot of Mosquitos but the boss can do nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location: it offers the possibility to see northern lights right from the property (the picture has been taken in front of the reception) but also to go by foot to the city if you need something. The staff was super welcoming and helpful, the room very comfortable, the dinner and the breakfast awesome!
Cons: Everything was perfect.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location 10 out of 10. Mr. Henry owner of the centre is honest and clear about the activities. His wife was also very much supportive and kind.
Cons: The photos shown on booking.com were not proper. They have not mentioned about number of washrooms as it is quite difficult to manage having one bathroom between 8 people.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were extremely nice and helpful. Our cabin was very clean. It was nice they had cross country skiis to rent.
Cons: Having to pay to rent towels and bed sheets. In the winter, it is significant hike to get to town.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: First of all, excellent value for money. Lapland isn't cheap, and finding affordable accommodation is really nice for a change. Lovely design, quiet rooms, polite and friendly staff. The supermarket is right across the street.
Cons: I asked for breakfast to go, as I had to leave at 6 a.m. Sadly, it failed to live up to my expectations. There was a tiny cheese sandwich, a boiled egg, six grapes and a juice box aptly named "Trip." For a grown man this barely qualifies as a small snack.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The apartament was very big and the beds were comfortable.
Cons: They don’t respect the initial price (I’m genius 2 and I have a discount) The personal of the hotel wasn’t nice and wasn’t polite: She didn’t like booking clients. Maybe this was the reason because they did’nt respect the discaunts. Then we asked for a baby bed and they didn’t give us. Another thing: we asked for a room/apartment with kitchen. The initial room didn’t have kichen. They changed for an apartment with a charge. Finally, we have breakfast included but they did’t give us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is clean, quiet, and the beds are comfortable. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Breakfast (included) is a very good traditional Finnish buffet, and they also have a lovely buffet lunch on weekdays from 11h00 - 15h00, for €11,50. From the a la carte menu, I had the Lake Inari whitefish, which was grilled, and served with potatoes, carrots, asparagus, dill, and a roe sauce which complemented the meal perfectly. Delicate and absolutely delicious.
Cons: There is no elevator.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was made to feel very welcome from the moment I arrived at breakfast time, after the hotel has had a very busy night before. I felt that my comfort mattered. I was directed to a great walk whilst my room was prepared as I was ahead of the usual check in time. I was upgraded to a room with a private sauna which was a real treat. The rooms were all clean and very comfortable. The food was delicious and very good value. The location was perfect for exploring the town and surrounding area and handy for the bus to Inari.
Cons: All good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing atmosphere, incredible food (cooks were willing to work around dietary requirements) and wonderful staff! Great value for money and would definitely recommend.
Cons: Room was quite warm, but we didn't take this up with the staff as we were only there two nights (I'm sure if we'd asked they would have been happy to help).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent communication with the staff as I arrived after the reception had closed, but they had a key lockbox and Sms'd me the code. Very clean and comfortable room and since I departed at 6 am before breakfast they kindly prepared a small breakfast which they left in my room. Also provided the extra pillows I requested.
7.0 Good
Pros: Sauna in the room
5.5 Okay
Pros: the restaurant was very good
Cons: the staircase in our room was far too steep more
5.5 Okay
Pros: It was only one night sleep on the long trip...
Cons: Very basic and old room facilities. No chance to cover roof window against the sunlight. Be careful of Saturday night, there's a disco and karaoke till 3:30 a.m. I haven't got such info here in advance.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good spot, handy to town and river. 2nd pillow available. Big towels.
Cons: Staff could have pretended that they liked having customers around.

Featured amenities include multilingual staff and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We had a wonderful stay in Ivalo River Camping! We are three women travelling through Finland and Norway and stayed two nights in a cosy and clean cottage at Ivalo River Camping. A fridge was available in the cottage and all necessary kitchen stuff was available in a kitchen close to our cottage. It is also possible to book Sauna slots and jump into the river afterwards (great!). Also, the personnel was friendly and gave recommendations for some nice places in the area. Thanks for the comfortable stay!
Cons: It was not possible to lock the toilet doors and curtains were missing in the showers. If this is fixed, everything will be great!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and natural place!
Cons: It is better to have a bigger hot plate to cook food!
6.3 Good
Pros: Very Nice and supportive staff
Cons: noice from the main road.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location,good stuff.....
Cons: Our cabin was wery old...I think it’s time to renovate it....
8.3 Excellent
Pros: + parking next to cabin + there were some issues beforehand, but they were resolved in a satisfactory way + a personal request was wonderfully met + cabin was big enough for two persons + kettle, coffee machine, fridge, microwave in cabin + nice, quiet surroundings
Cons: - no early breakfast (but we were helped with it in a positive, improvised way) - bedlinen and towels are not included (extra fee)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely rooms and amenities. The staff was nice and helpful. The location is good, away from the city centre so quiet and peaceful. Good restaurant too. Beautiful cottages.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect for seeing the northern light, and breakfast was excellent. I definitely enjoyed my holiday.
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: Well, too tiny and dirty toilet, can't take two persons at the same time without touching each other, besides broken locks, which is so disgusting. About the cottage, it is not tiny but got a very freaking short roof with a lot of Crossed wood with sharp protrusions, which is so dangerous, I already hit my head 3 times, one of them was so serious. it doesn't make any sense to make such a dangerous and uncomfortable design. So if you are 180cm or over, don't take it, because this place just made for Hobbits.
6.3 Good
Pros: The Staff is really nice, kitchen is quite big and each cottage has its own microwave and fridge. There is also quite fine wifi reception. Reception is open till 2AM and you can also order food there.
Cons: The toilets were far from clean, and only one working. The cottage is really small and there was no ladder to climb on the upper bed. It's located near to the road, so it's noisy as well.
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: The worst place I have ever been. Bad cabins, bad kitchen, bad toilets and bathroom. Poor place.
