It's really close to the castle and the railway station (maybe around 5-10 minutes for the first And 15 for the second) There are buses anyways so it's perfect :) Would totally recommend, if I ever come back to Himeji it would be at this place!

7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel was at the center of town and close to many things. Not far from HImeji castle, walking distance making it attractive. Great location. The cost was reasonable, and had to deal with the dislikes.
Cons: i requested 2 rooms that were either connecting or close to each other. We were at the opposite end of the floor. Rooms 809 and 830. At check in, we asked if the rooms were close by since we were all together and booked 2 rooms. We were not afforded the opportunity to be close by. Rooms were too small for a family of 5. During the booking process, I identified our 3 kids were older, and we had to use an air mattress that we packed. Lastly, one of our rooms was right across from the smoking room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is superb, staff is nice. Rooms are very, very small, even by Japan standards. Breakfast was nice, breakfast staff very hardworking.
Cons: Rooms small.

Cons: There was nothing to dislike. Everything was perfectly organised.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is a Japanese Business Hotel perfectly positioned directly next to the train station. It's a ca. 15min walkl to Himeji castle. That was perfect. Hotel itself seems to be very new with "19th century European style elements". Room itself was big, bed was comfortable and everything was very clean.
Cons: This is a Business Hotel, so the atmosphere was rather distant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice family size Japanese style room and the hotel's location is perfect.
Cons: The view from the room was terrible but really nicely hidden.

Cons: Confusing finding hotel but good location..
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is excellent for Japanese standards: small room, small bathroom but well equipped with all facilities
Cons: I wanted to checkout at 12.00 instead of the standard 11.00m and was refused. I would have to pay Yen 1000 for one hour extra stay, after I stayed there for a full week. Very inflexible and offensive
9.5 Excellent

Pros: Stay longer in Himeji. Behalf the castle, there are more interesting spots to discover. Drink a coffee from the siphon with almond toast at hamamoto coffee. Climb the stairs at the hill to have a nice view on the castle. Try a kimono at your hostel. Sake tasting at a local bar...I love the city!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place with a very authentic japanese feel. Classy decor, extremely lovely staff and great location. Will return for sure.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hikaru-san is a great host. Though I arrived around 10pm, she waited up and greeted me with a smile. Her guesthouse only has 2 rooms for guests, so it’s a very personal experience. Definitely check out her kimono shop when you have time. Good value. Great walking distance to the castle.
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful old house with a very nice owner. The room was spacy and had a good air-conditioning. Very nice!
Cons: Nothing to complain about
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely private room in a characterful flat. Charming owner (looking fantastic in a kimono). I stayed in the twin private room. The beds are bunk beds but are double sized so very comfortable. The room is big with a hammock chair and two leather sofas with a nice wooden table. Shared showers and toilets are all very nice (three pretty discrete toilets and two showers). Also a nice living room area. There is a kitchen area but I didn’t really use so can’t comment on. Easy walk from the station and also to the castle (10 mins to each).
Cons: WiFi was a little patchy at times
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Guesthouse Akashi Hikaria - Hostel in Akashi, you'll be a 4-minute walk from Uontana Shopping Street and 8 minutes by foot from Akashi Castle. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: People were friendly and everything was clean and available for a nice stay. One can cook and is also not vey far from the train station.
Cons: Just a litle bt on the top of th stairs. But good to get fit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Facility was good with kitchen and all. The bathroom and the toilet were separated which was a huge plus for me. All and all, it was the best stay for me in Japan.
Cons: None
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The guest house is super-clean. The owners are friendly and the beds were comfortable. There's a shared refrigerator and small kitchen. Unlike most guest houses and hostels (I've been to) this one has a bathtub which I enjoyed soaking in at the end of the day. The value is unbeatable!
Cons: Like any bunk your bunk-mates might snore or have alarms go off at odd times.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We wanted to stay in a smaller city (compared to Kobe or Himeji) and Akashi and this guesthouse were a great choice. The guesthouse is located close to everything - train station, park, food market and ferry (if you want to visit Awaji island). It is new so everything was very nice and clean, beds were comfortable and the owner was also very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The kitchen area is very close to some of the beds, which can be a problem if there are many guests and the room is more crowded, but when we stayed there we were the only guests so it was all very comfortable. :)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: everything is wonderful!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: New facility, great cleanliness and really nice bathroom and shower area! Was able to feel relaxed and comfortable in the bed. Big refrigerator so you can put food if needed. Not far from the JR station. Thank you!
Cons: No elevator, so had to carry suitcase up 4 flights of stairs. Staff was informative, but because they are also running a cafe seemed a little unfriendly to check-in. Heater was too much and drying. *Hint*: you have to turn it off from the hallway switch outside the door. But overall it was a good place to stay because it was clean and bright.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff. Nice little flat, and comfortable bed
Cons: Light switches outside the room. Very noisy because of the road
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very quite, clean place and dormitory. The staff is very nice and provided us detailed information of the Guesthouse, sightseeing place, restaurants and transports.
Cons: Air conditioner cannot be adjusted. Light is not in the room but in the corridor and not easy to find. The bed was soft but not confortable.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great onsen on the roof.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was close to the station and the staff was great. The hotel was about a 10 minute walk from Himeji castle.
Cons: My biggest complaint would have to be that the window could have been better insulated from the outside sound. My room was on the 4th floor and I could hear cars and people outside until around midnight. It wasn't overly loud but it could have been quieter.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Particularly the onsen! Good value for money! Don't hesitate, you won't regret :-)

The room was cosy and clean, the bed comfortable and the shower was good. Wish I stayed more than one night.. Perfect location, close to the castle and the train station. Lots of restaurants around.

Guesthouse Engakudo is the first guesthouse in Himeji. The guesthouse is in a restored townhouse that was built 100 years ago. We are a 10 minute walk from Himeji Castle, a World Heritage Site.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Its charming 110 odd year old house with the soul
Cons: Bathroom is on geound floor while bedrooms on furst with very steep stairs so not easy if you need a tolet during the nite
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Really nice staff and very close to the main sighseeing: the castle. Take into account that this is an old house, so don't expect luxury. It can be noisy sometimes, but the good vibes of the place and the people there will make your trip an experience.
Cons: An old wooden house means that when someone walk in your room it will make some unwanted sound. Also the walls are very thin. The noise early morning is the unique problem I found.

Pros: Conversation and language exchange, nice people, easy and quiet, lot of mangas to read, old japanese house
Cons: Lack of personal space
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing host, lovely quaint space with thoughtful touches. Calm and good facilities, will definitely stay again!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The entire property has a very funky, quirky and free-Spirited! As a fan of Ghibli films, I really enjoyed the decor and overall atmosphere. The owners were also very friendly and fit the vibe of the place perfectly. I felt very welcome and would stay there again! :)
Cons: It’s a traditional, old Japanese house, so I would not expect top-notch sound-proofing or air-conditioning. Also, there are no locks or lockers in the rooms, so you’ll just have trust people not to steal your laptop, I guess... or else, carry everything with you and/or use the coin lockers in the city center.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A verry beautiful Hostel in Japanese style. A lot of books and movies, good kitchen A nice place for stay very close to the castle.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location was convenient to the JR Himeji station. A good bonus was that we could leave our luggage prior to checkin. Breakfast was ok.
Cons: The rooms are quite small, but I am in Japan after all. Because of the size of the small room, we had a difficult time regulating the air conditioner. It would get too cold and then I'd have to get up in the middle of the night to turn it off and then get up again to turn it on because it had gotten too hot.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: The airco made such a hard noise
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was under my expectation, due to lack of food variation. But the rest was perfect, very comfortable beds!! :)
7.5 Good
Pros: Thé staff was friendly. The hôtel is very close to the train station and shopping/restaurants areas. Thé castle is approx. 10 minutes by walk.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: free bike rental was so nice since we were already tired when we got there. we wanted to go to see the castle and it was a walking distance but biking was so fun and much easier!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It's a nice affordable hotel within walking distance to the train station and Himeji castle. The staff is friendly and we enjoyed the breakfast. The breakfast offered in the lounge included both Japanese and western options.
Cons: This is a nice clean place, but the room is a bit smaller compared to western hotels. I got a room with a double bed and at times it felt cramped in there, but overall great for the price we paid.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast wasn’t great
7.5 Good
Pros: Excellent location and comfortable rooms.
Cons: Breakfast only for Asian people! Don’t expect any good bread, only sweets...A/C very noisy

Setre Highlandvilla Himeji - Himeji - Building

Overview Reviews
With a stay at SETRE Highlandvilla HIMEJI in Himeji, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Himeji Castle and Hiromine Shrine. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice view on Himeji, large room, friendly staff, comfortable bed, nice Japanese breakfast. Caution: we've been lucky there was no wedding party organized during our stay. There are several banquet rooms in the building, and I doubt you can really enjoy your stay if there is a party going on nearby.
Cons: No Wifi in the room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel on the hill with very nice views! Very nice traditional Japanese breakfast!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent view of the city. Room is spacious and comfortable with modern decoration. Floor lounge is also great with free drinks (including alcohol) and snacks. A nice library and a big public bath to relax.
Cons: English capability of staff is limited
5.0 Okay
Pros: - the lounge and the free drinks - the site is very nice in the mountains over himeji - the very Japanese hotel style event though they should also be more opened to foreigners (English speaking and a choice of western food would be welcomed) - very comfortable beds and very nice three beds room
Cons: - no WIFI in the room / no wifi in the lobby (only wifi in the lounge) - too long to get there from Himeji - the staff does not speak English, even though they are nice, it is difficult to be understood - the dinner => very expensive (probably very good), only one choice of menu and you have to book in advance. We did not and then your only choice is to go back to town... - the breakfast : only the Japanese menu is offered, no choice of any western food. - the sauna not suitable for children. Overall, the hotel is not very suitable for western kids. - too expensive for the service done
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is included and was a delicious Japanese style breakfast.
Cons: The dinner at the hotel required reservations made on the previous day. This was not an option through booking.com. so I recommend calling the hotel to make the dinner reservation or eating in Himeji, then going to the hotel. Also, if you do not speak Japanese this may be a difficult hotel for you to stay at.

Pros: The location is very near to Himeji Castle and Himeji station is not far.
Cons: The bathroom was smelly. Air conditioning temperature was not stable. We asked for high floor and quiet room, but we got low floor room which was in front of the elevator!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, nice and quiet, close to the main shopping area in Himeji and very close to Himeji’s main attraction Himeji Castle
Cons: Breakfast not included
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is my second time with them and I love staying here! Very close to Himeji Station and short walking distance to Himeji Castle. Has an observation floor to take night photographs of Himeji Castle for free. If driving, there are several pay parking lots.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Very good value for money and just a stone’s throw from Himeji castle.
Cons: There were holes in the bedsheets.
6.8 Good
Pros: Close proximity to Himeji Castle and walking distance to city centre and many restaurants. Car parking outside hotel entrance (for a fee). Polite (but uninspiring) staff.
Cons: Extremely small room (also for Japanese standards). We booked a twin room but obtained what seemed to be a single where they had forced in an extra narrow single bed. The walking space between the beds and the wall was approximately 30 cm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close proximity to the castle and the station
Cons: Nothing. It was great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, comfort, cleanliness, excellent buffet breakfast, strong wifi
Cons: ---
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to say good breakfast and close to the castle
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel and location were both great. This hotel is the closest one to Himeji Castle and only a short walk to Himeji Station so it was very convenient for us. The staff was very friendly and helpful and was able to answer questions that we had and find solutions to our requests. The room was rather small but still quite comfortable. The breakfast was fabulous. There was an excellent buffet with a such good variety. It was convenient, relaxing, filling and delicious. We appreciated that they kept our luggage for us while we went on tour. Thank you
Cons: The room was small but everything else made up for it

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good value. Simple small rooms for a fair price. A big plus is the Himeji station shuttle which goes 3 times every hour.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The onsen was nice and big - albeit not as clean as some others I have been to.
Cons: Very small room and dated. Huge step to get into bathroom. The building needs a full refurbishment. Breakfast had a lot of choice but the room was very ugly. There are a lot of hotels in Himeji and this one was quite far from the station comparing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: 10mn walk from the railway station and esay to find. Free shuttle every 30mn Very nice hotpools Very welcoming staff and quick registration 8mn walking distance from restaurants. Everything always very clean.
Cons: Nothing. We stayed during emperor's hollidays so the price of the room was a bit higher than normal but it is not the hotel's fault. Everywhere was booked.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel offers free parking by reimbursing parking fees at a nearby paid parking area, a client-friendly offer not made by many hotels in Japan, even if they have in-house parking facilities.
Cons: The room is a bit small. There is no fresh air, as windows can't open, so you're breathing old air fron other guests through the airconditioning, a health hazard...
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and spoke English, helping my family to catch the free shuttle to/from the train station. Taxi to the castle grounds only took about 10 minutes so the location was great if that’s what you are there for. There are several beautiful baths at the hotel to choose from in the public onsen. Sauna complete with T.V. was an added bonus! Everything was very clean and rooms were comfortable and efficient, just on the small side. Definitely recommend as it was a great stay for the price!
Cons: As a westerner, the breakfast was not to my taste. Ended up having mostly eggs, mini croissants and juice but if you love Japanese style breakfast there is plenty to choose from, including miso soup, salad, pickled veggies, rice, yakisoba and more.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Onsen was very nice place. Thank you for very good time in your town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel with lovely helpful staff. Cool to have a shuttleservice.
Cons: They should post the shuttle timetable on booking.com. I couldn't go to the onsen because of tattoos.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I thought that the shuttle service to and from the station was great. The room was small but comfortable although disappointed that there was no English language channel available on the TV. My room had a good view.
Cons: I was a little disappointed in the breakfast which was limited for the money. I was also disappointed that there was no English speaking TV. Also the staff although very friendly, didn't speak much English.
7.5 Good
Cons: I hoped water in public bath was hot spring water but it was just a regular water (except 1 pool). Family bath is waste of time and money - again, not a hot spring water
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The spa facilities available at the hotel were amazing - great way to experience a true Japanese Onsen. The value of the hotel cannot be beat. While the rooms are small, they are comfortable and clean - perfect for exploring Himeji
Cons: Some of the bedding needed replacing - but otherwise the hotel was great value for money.

6.8 Good
Pros: Basic inexpensive hotel that did the job for one night. Easy to get to city centre or 'Last Sumaurai' temple (Shosa mountain). McDonalds is a very short distance away. Breakfast was buffet style and adequate. Room functional and comfortable enough. Free parking. Staff friendly and courteous.
Cons: Exit from the car park was very difficult and relied on other drivers letting you out at a busy junction. Surrounding area not that good but Japan is safe wherever you are. Beds were hard, as most are in Japan.

Cons: no

Cons: Check-In isn’t until 9p.m. Also I had no clue this was a love hotel so arriving there with my mom and being greeted by porn and various sex-toys was pretty terrible.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The apartment is huge with jacuzzi and huge bathroom, huge bedroom + living room - fully equipped !
Cons: It’s quite far away from the Himeji station and the center.

Pros: Staff was very attentive, despite the language barrier.
6.8 Good
Pros: Enjoyed our stay at this hotel, was interesting to stay in a traditional Japanese room. Had a good time in onsen but it is on a small side. Room was big and spacious. The dinner was one of the best japanese dinners we had during our trip, all fresh and tasty and served by lovely ladies. The only suprise was that we expected it to be served in our room
Cons: The hotel is rather old and feels like it. The room smelled of cigarette smoke as well as facilities downstairs. And we couldn't find a shower on the floor.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: You couldn't want a better location for access to the station and to the Castle. Its a very comfortable hotel with a high level of in-room amenities including coffee-pod machines. The reception staff were extremely accommodating as we needed to change to a larger room, having made an incorrect selection when booking.
6.3 Good
Pros: close to the JR station, quiet, comfortable bed
Cons: reception not very welcoming, small room, fit and feel of the hotel not very nice, a little worn out, small and old fashioned bathroom, no amenities, breakfast average.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location and also the size of the room excellent
Cons: Having to pay to utilise the swimming pool
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very flashy reception, lobby area, however the room was not as flashy. Room was clean and comfortable, but feels a bit dated. Good location though, right next to the station.
Cons: Price. Abit pricey since it is a 4 star hotel, I think they can do abit of renovation to make the room more modern to match their beautiful lobby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location just across from the station
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to train station and bus station. A 15-minute walk to Himeji Castle.
Cons: The room was small and the furniture was old. Nothing fancy, but it was OK.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to train Station
Cons: Breakfast closes at 9, too early.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location was great, opposite of Himeji station and parking was close by for 1000 yen per day.
Cons: Room was very small and the mattress was so soft (worn out?) in the middle, that it was not possible to stay on ones side. And I just don't like the fact that hotels are promoting a pool and on arrival it turns out that it is apparently a own business and you need to be either a member or you have to pay for usage. :-(
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room, with great facilities. Perfect for business traveller: connectivity items provided. Coffeemaker in room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is perfect, one-minute walk from the train station.
Cons: The facility is old, but the room is clean and function is okay.
