Upgraded to a junior suire Poor breakfasts and extremely slow service at dinner.Inconvenient parking.
Apart from slight difficulties with the Internet our stay was really enjoyable. I will remember the sound of waves and beautiful veiw from the window. All lake destinations and attractions are easilly accessable, espetially if you travel with a car. Friendly staff, atmospheric restaurant Some difficulties with the Internet link. After the refurbishment of the upper terrace it's going to look nicer, now it spoils the first impression.
We didn't like anything, especially the cockroach in our bedroom. The decor was dirty and out dated, the balcony was falling to bits, when I stepped out of the shower or used the toilet anybody on the lake could have looked into the bathroom as there wasn't a curtain or blind at the window! The man who served breakfast was downright rude and ignorant!
Location simply cannot be beat! Hotel beautifully located on shorefront Lake Maggiore, and within short walk Laveno town center and waterfront. Stayed here for a weekend amidst business trip. Had a fantastic break, definitely made the right choice place to stay. Junior suite is spacious room with balcony above the lake. Owners helpful and friendly to someone who is not good at italian language. The dinners are excellent! Great chef, great fresh local fare and seafood. Had an all-round wonderful and peaceful weekend. Not something I did not like: but my response to other reviewers that indicated the rooms are small. Standard rooms do look small (simple standard european basic rooms). However, the Junior Suites are very spacious, comfortable, most have balconies, and, they only cost a few more euro... Do youself a favor, book ahead, and get a junior suite.
the view was amazing and very close to the town of Laveno, the room was pleasant and clean.
It was wonderful to experience a few days of grand "belle epoche" style. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we had a nice stay. I wish the lighting in the bedrooms was better for reading. The bedside lights are not great for reading. Since it was raining for most of our stay, this was important.
Our stay was wonderful! We were upgraded to a gorgeous room overlooking the lake, however, all the rooms looked superb. We were a very short walk to the city center and could see the islands on the lake from our balcony. The boats to the islands were also close by. The staff at the hotel were more than outstanding and when our car broke down they completely took charge and helped us get a new car. We had a great facial and massage in their lovely spa. I couldn't say enough about this great hotel. It was a fabulous and I can understand why Ernest Hemingway wrote about it in "Farewell to Arms". The perfect start to our Italian vacation.
Incredible view of the lake and mountains. Great locatio in Stressa. Absolutely one of the best in Italy.
a truly "Grand" hotel, very spectacular museum-like design, full of artefacts and ambiance. Restaurant rather expensive but very good, staff helpful and efficient. Close to Stresa beaches, shops and restaurants I think it is applicable to all the most expensive and renouned hotels on the Stresa promenade. Lake - facing rooms are exposed to the noise from the road (which isn't very busy, but an occasional bike makes quite a sound) and those garden-facing -a train which is not quite close but the noise reverberates from the mountains, so we chose to sleep with the door closed and the air conditioning switched on on the last day. These are however minor problems compared to the grandeur of the experience.
Have stayed in many other Stresa Hotels ,this is the best by far..at a price The rooms do not have tea & coffee
all was excellent No
Comfortable room.Good location.Attentive staff.A very good staging place to make day visit to other lakes. None.
The decor is wonderful, location for the lake & town are excellent. I booked for October by mistake, but the reception staff were very understanding when we arrived a month earlier in September! They gave us one of the best rooms with big veranda, but one of our dogs got on to the stain glass room. It was a talking point of our stay! The price was fair for the quirkiness, but the full price is quick high.
We enjoyed the location, the scenery, the people, and food of the area. The hotel was centrally located and open at the time we were visiting.
This hotel is 1st Class!
The hotel has an unique and wonderful atmosphere. The room was very comfortable, clean and beauifully decorated. The staff (both in the reception and the staff in the restaurant) was extraordinary friendly and helpful. The food and service was excellent. The spa facility had a sauna and steamroom which looked very nice but was unfortunately turned off for most of the time so was not able to use it - which is a shame as the spa is very nice. The pool was open though.
The hotel felt very traditional and grand. the decor was fantastic and the facilities excellent. Would have liked tea and coffee in the room
The hotel was impressive and very well maintained with a fine swimming pool. A good location in Stresa. The hotel was very good but I have the following comments: the room was very small but still comfortable there did not appear to be any bar service in the pool area - it would have been good to have the opportunity to have a cold drink (delivered)whilst enjoying the pool facilities
Location is excellent, the pool and garden are great. The restaurant - too many not-so-effective waiters, average food.
the view ,kind personel a bit expensive
Beautiful design and internal fittings. Views of lake and mountains superb.
Isola Bella+Isola Madre. The old part of Streza.Visiting the north part of Lago Maggiore A small room under the roof-hot! no A/C during our stay.
Good location, nice staff, good food, good parking facilities, garage. The bed was too small!
I liked the location of the hotel, the helpfulness of the staff, the breakfast and the room. I didn't love the location of the room in terms of a limited view.
Situation beside lake, with view fron window and balcony. Price of breakfast.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a great view over the lake and the hotel was in an excellent position.
The staff were helpful and friendly. The room had a great view of the lake and the breakfast was very good
The reception staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The restaurant staff run a very impressive facility to a high standard, The view from my room was wonderfull and breathtaking and will remain the abiding image of our holiday. The room cleaning staff were very helpfull and work hard in keeping the rooms fresh and clean. Yes, the cost of using the Internet facility is the most expensive I have ever seen anywhere in the world. It is disgracefully slow and in my opinion borders upon being unusable.Twenty Euros for one hour is disgusting!! Either the Hotel or Swisscom are ripping off the Hotel patrons outrageously. It leaves a lasting bad memory of an otherwise very good hotel.
the staff at this hotel were wonderful especially Angela the receptionist who was a mine of info the room couldnt have been better fab views very clean breakfast each morning great a five star experience we will be returning a s a p
I was there so short time, so i cannot tell
Excellent hotel wonderful view.,nice!!
I like the location and the vue over the see. Yes that the room vas very smal
friendly staff who spoke English only buffet dinner available. No wine in the minibar. Pool outside and you had to cross the road with heavy traffic to get there.
A very nice and supporting atmosphere, caring staff, they even run to the railway station to bring you the left colledge ring. Bath, brilliant view to the lake. -
Nice hotel, not overwhelmingly luxurious, or large, just right for our taste. True 4 stars and in off season good value for money. Probably the most enjoyable in a trip that took us from Italy through Switzerland, Germany and France. Street noise as we were offered lake view room, but the heat in the room to high and we slept with the window open.
It was great. I would return. Perfect location, modern, and clean. Pool is across the street and right on the lake (better since you are in Stresa). They accomodated a family of three with an upgrade to a junior suite -- making sleeping arrangements comfortable for our adult son. It's hard to find a room for 3 with comfort!
Near the train station, breakfast, and could walk most places Front desk employees when in the concierge services could be more helpful and answer questions in greater detail, especially if a traveller is new to the area and new to Europe's transportation modes.
The hotel atmosphere.
Location in Stresa
Everything there is excellent; the lake view, restaurant and rooms Not a thing
Location and view to lake
Excellent room, view and location, immediately opposite the ferry terminal. Parking is free outside the hotel (if you're patient), or there is hotel parking for a charge. The hotel is newly refurbished and the rooms are large and elegantly furnished. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. We will definitely return.
Helpful and friendly staff our room was changed as soon as we had problems with air conditioning clean room with good view of lake The only negative thing was the restaurant. No prices listed. Food was expensive for quality and presentation. We paid 35 Euros a head plus wine for food which wasn't worthy of a canteen never mind a 4 star hotel. Cibo di scarsa qualitã . Non consiglio nessuno di mangiare qui.
Proximity of hotel to island ferry, helpful and friendly staff Noisy air conditioning unit from building next door. Only affects rooms on western side of hotel
What I expect from a hotel that it should be. Every thing was good.
This was our first trip to Italy and only for 2 days (while on holiday in Switzerland) but the hotel San Gottardo was easy to find, excellent quality and very centrally located, the staff were very helpful, friendly and spoke good english. Our room was spotlessly clean and had a lovely view of the lake. We chose to eat at a resturant down the road because we wanted to experiance as much of Italy as we could in our 2 days but the food in the hotel looked very good. I would recommend this hotel to every one and hope to stay there again for a longer holiday in Italy.
Friendly service and beautiful room.
Very friendly and helpful staff
Room was large with nice lake view, good bathroom, and very convenient for ferry. Free parking is easy to get. The Pallanza part of Verbania is more peaceful and family oriented than is the Intra part. Lack of comfortable chair(s) in such a large room was a bit hard to understand. Play area for children right in front of hotel (too much noise in afternoons).
Very nice location, recently renovated structure, warm and helpful reception.
My room with a view onto the lake, islands and mountains in the background. The staff were all very friendly and polite and were encouraging when I spoke in Italian. The bed was not very comfortable and the pillow were like a rock.
The care and attention of the dining room staff, the ambience, the excellent service of the shuttle bus drivers. Rather poor pool service. I.E. they seemed to decide whether anyone would use the pool rather than the customer. We had to collect own mattresses and towels after exploring under hotel. The request to reception for help was answered by "immediately" which never came. Admittedly the weather was doubtful but still felt we should be able to use pool if we wanted too.
Excellent, no problems at all. Price could be lower for multiple nights.
the luxury, the decor and the amazing views of lake maggiore nothing i did not like.
Smart, professional staff and relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
Excellent hotel staff and srevice all around. Typical of Europe rooms were small, not like viewed on website. We did not get the class/level of rooms we paid for with no remedy from the hotel, this was a real dissappointment.
The hotel decor was fabulous. The restaurant and bar staff very friendly. The beds were a bit on the hard side.
I absolutely loved the view of Isola Bella and Isola Pescatori. It has the best view of any hotel in that region! Gorgeous! Didn't eat breakfast in hotel...to expensive! I'm sure it was good though. It would be great if they offered a continental breakfast for lighter eaters that was included in the room price,
I liked the location of the hotel on the shore of Lake Maggiore with the view of the Borromean Islands front and center. The furnishings and finishes in the hotel were excellent. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The bath was cramped although it included a toilet, bidet, double sinks, shower and jacuzzi tub. The room was not spacious either but the furnishings were very nice.
The hotel had a warm ,comfortable atmosphere and the staff were professional yet friendly.they accomodated our needs very well..nothing was too much trouble.dining room was excellent.room 105 stunning view The swimming pool is outdoor,i cant remember noting that beforehand.there was some confusion with booking appointments for facials etc.we would have liked the courtesy car to have run more frequently at peak times but were happy that there was a service.these are very minor comments!
being welcomed by professionals; great assistance and service; wonderful food; comfort; spa-massages swimming pool area too noisy due to nearby busy road, unfortunately this cannot be changed... They have a nice tennis court, but it is abandoned, a real pity.
nice owner, helpfull not a good bar
The staff were very friendly and the hotel was really good value for money. Everywhere was clean and well looked after and the service really good
Location of the hotel and views from the room. Parking was expensive and breakfast had limited selection.
Helpful staff. Locality. Decor of rooms.
The breakfast buffet was very good and the staff was excellent you need to pay for parking the car
Comfortable room with good quality breakfast including extras like fresh orange juice. Nice interior to hotel Noise from busy traffic and from bars nearby.
Location on lakes edge and proximity to town centre; responsive and friendly staff; availability of secure parking.
Hotel was very good. Room service (cleaning etc) was excellent. Also breakfast was very good. Good location and good parking possibilities. Value for money.
We like the breakfast , very good!
The staff were wonderful and the rooms comfortable. Breakfast was great. Overall a clean, cozy place to stay. Parking was a bit expensive.
Location was very good, Parking was good and free, Staff was very helpful. The food in the resturant could have been much better!
Room with terrace and view on the lake and the mountains was superb. Breakfast was great and plentiful. Staff and decor are very classy and the hotel is 5 minutes from the railway station by taxi. Everything was great. Stay too short.
Good location. Near Stresa center. Near lae.
The air conditioning was not on when we arrived and our room felt quite cold and damp. After speaking to the management, we were given a fire and the air conditioning was eventually turned on throughout the hotel
The views were fantastic and was quiet and peaceful, the short walk to town made an enjoyable evening stroll
Staff were great - many of whom spoke English. Room was large, airy, bright, very clean. Excellent location in Stresa, & easy to park car. They have a open air panoramic roof top - the view from there is stunning. The lobby area is great as there are a few different places to sit and each has different feel. Breakfast typical continental menu and nice. Great Hotel! Our room had a balcony with a sideways view of the lake which was still OK, but not as nice as a full front-on view. But nothing else to complain about at all, and positive points far outweigh this one negative point. If booking, ask for full front facing view, and ask for room on 3rd or 4th floor - best place for good views. Some rooms on lower floors are overlooked and view restricted.
All the staff were very helpful and the Hotel was decorated with excellent paintings The choice and standard of food did not come up to the high standards of this fine hotel
Location to Stresa was good The Matre de in the restaurant was a very arrogant man
Good value for Money, nicely kept hotel and facilities
the fact that it was a family run hotel and the family were there
Charming hotel, friendly staff, gorgeous view and excellent location--just steps from restaurants and the ferry landing. Beds and pillows were firmer than we are used to, but we learned on checking out that if we requested they'd change the pillows and even the mattress. Staff very eager to please--rare in Europe.
Visited the islands on the lake The facilities (or lack of)
Beautifully situated by Lake Maggiore centrally in Pallanza with lovely lake view and plenty of choice of restaurants very nearby - peaceful and quiet. No safe in the room and little information about the hotel services in the room.
Wireless network would have been nice.
Very polite staff
Closeness to the lake Nothing to dislike about the hotel
The hotel was lovely, staff very helpful and pleasant. Beautiful views of Lake Maggiore and you are right by the lakeside once you have crossed the road. The breakfast was too expensive for what it was.
Staff were delightful - warm, helpful, genuinely friendly. Airconditioning didn't work properly and "laundry facilities" were a laundry service (expensive and unsuitable for our time requirements) rather than washing machine.
Love the view from the bedroom, the location and the little village of Pallanze Did not like the fact that the airconditioner is put off in the middle of the night.
Outstanding service - friendly and welcoming. An attractive well maintained building with character in a superb location - views of the lake and surrounding mountains were unimpeded by lakeside traffic found in other parts of Laker Maggiore. The room was over-heated. This was rectified after it was brought to the attention of staff.
Nice location on the promenade. Friendly staff.
This was our second visit and we were not disappointed by chosing to return. We would choose to stay there again when we return to the area.
Very friendly staff always ready to help. nice facility. no
Nice people, clean, comfortable room. Quiet (at least in mid October). Wonderful view of lake. Ate one dinner there -- dining room staff seemed rather inexperienced and distracted. Breakfast was separate for 10 euros; didn't try it. TV channel selection very limited, only CNN in English (but there seemed to be some sort of "premium" option.)
We have got an upgrade and lived in Pallanza hotel, which is just 50 meters from Belveder and managed by the same team. The hotel is very nice. It's pretty hard to find a parking place even in the low season- in the evening all free parking are taken by the visitors of the restaurants and bars
We loved the location and our room was very large, quite basic, with 3 large aspect windows + balcony with unbelievable views and overlooking the ferry terminal. The only thing we were unhappy about was that the beds and pillows were very hard so it was difficult to sleep.
Right next to Lake Maggiore
new, clean rooms no minibar
the view was breathtaking and the staff was very welcoming
Excellent location, good air con Parking difficult to find
Super view of Lago Maggiore from the room. Excellent helpful staff fluent in various languages. Perfect and clean rooms. Super breakfast on terrasse overlooking the lake. Absolutely recommendable!!!!
Ideally located, directly at the lake, very pretty and charming. The room may not be perfect (furniture) but perfectly adequat and certainly not worse than most other 2-star hotels in the mediteranean. Rooms 2-5 are on the side of the building, but the sea is easily visible by turning your head, Room 6 is the one with the full view. All rooms we saw had a cute little balcony. The breakfast is absolutely fine, again, by mediteranean standards. Hot drink, juice, bread, jam, ham & cheese, joghurt. Staff is very friendly. Dinner would have been 15 Euros per person, but we had other plans. Considering the excellent location I think the hotel offers a pretty good deal. Easy parking. Everything was fine.
This lovely little lakeside hotel is chef owned with a well appointed restaurant, which offers great resident meal deals. The staff could not be more helpful, and willingly attend to every need in a friendly and informal way, The lake view room was exactly that, with a balcony over the small harbour.
Very nice and helpful staff. A room with terrace, which is fully face the beautiful lake. And you can enjoy the breakfast in the restaurant with fantastic view. It's a little hard to move the luggage into the room in floor 2.
Loved our balcony view of the lake and the Alps beyond. A great place to watch the sunset. Excellent inexpensive gourmet dinner both nights. Wonderful breakfast including nice proscuitto & croissants. Staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful & accomodating.
The buffet breakfast because my son and I only enjoy continental food (brioche, bread, honey and fruit juices) and the choice was excellent to meet all needs. One could have breakfast inside or outside and the hotel itself is quaint and, upon appearance, delightful to look at, but ... our room was just not up to scratch, and having been in many other hotels, and having spent less than 70 euros for much better accommodation, my experience was not good at this one. Yes! The room was stuffy, small and every time someone else in the block where the annex room was (we were on the ground floor outside of the hotel) moved a chair or closed a door it could be heard loudly. Needless to say, I didn't fall asleep till after midnight because of the noise from other residents. Also, the ad stated 'free parking' but this was public free parking! And not free parking at the hotel. In addition, despite wifi being available free of charge I couldn't access the internet on my laptop despite having had no problems with wifi anywhere else (Austria in the Alps and in Malpensa and in many other places last year). This was the only place where I simply couldn't connect my laptop and the owners were unable to assist.
The hotel is lovely, with rooms up a tiny alley and seperate from the main building, but still in close proximity. The rooms are decorated with little murals of flowers or birds and the bathrooms equipped for elderly people. The diner and breakfast were delicious and the view from the terrace of Lago Maggiore is magnificent. The staff did not speak English very well, but their German was sufficient and they were very helpful in any way they could be.
The breakfast was very good, a nice view at Lago Maggiore, free Wifi. It's difficult to park the car nearby the hotel and the rooms are to small. We missed the minibar.
Excellent view from our room Noise until early hours of the morning from the neigbouring club. no air condition in the rooms. no elevators.
Close to lake, Price interesting, TV LCD I paid for a double as mentioned in reservation form and I sleep in a tiny room with a single bed. Hotel is noisy because it is close to a church. Besides, whenever people are not careful with door closing, it creates lots of noise.
relaxing atmosphere, pleasant staff and good food
Lovely grounds and building. Staff was friendly. Spa was disappointing as there was only one service person available during high season.
Staff hospitality and location of hotel Food in the evening was a little over the top with no alternative. Wine ordered was that given (wrong year).
comfort, relaxing environment, helpfulness of staff
restaurant is outstanding, the view from the room at the lake is superb, the great atmosphere in the building
We found the dinner menu lacking in vegetables
Very little We chose a standard double in this supposedly "Luxury Hotel" and paid extra for a lakeside view, what we got was a very small room that could be compared to a cheap B&B that was about 5 years overdue for an upgrade with poor quality fixtures, mouldy shower with a dribble from the shower head etc. Also to get the "lakeside view" we had to go and stand out on the tiny balcony. When we complained we were moved to a marginally better room with no apology. I imagine that there must be a huge difference between classic and superior rooms. We were also above the function room with all of the noise of a wedding disco going on until 1230.
2nd visit still excelentl
Not impressive from the exterior, but very nice indeed once inside. Well laid out with everything in excellent condition and spotlessly clean. Our room was particularly nice and suited my wife who is wheelchair bound.Large lobby and bar areas made it easy to meet our friends and plan our trips. The reception and concierge services were very good. No!
The hotel is beautifully located at the lake. Impressive building. Our room was relatively small and not properly cleaned. Not all the food and juices were fresh at breakfast. A little overdone to ask extra for an omelet. High prices for a rather old fashioned hotel.
