Only the location can explain why this establishment remains in business with a 1930's east end accomodation offering.
On arrival we found reception was on the first floor and our small, scruffy room was on the fifth floor. There was no lift (not mentioned in the advertising); and it had to be accessed via a narrow, short-stepped, steep staircase. This was quite a challenge with two large suitcases. The staff was not helpful on our arrival or departure. The room had old fittings in disrepair (towel rail fell off the wall; rubbish bin lid dropped off its hinge). The muslin curtain was greyish black. The small window looked out into a void between higher buildings which contained a large sheet iron exhaust fed from a large extractor over a food prep area somewhere below which made a loud noise until 2300hrs. I wonder whether the arrangement of the access to so many rooms by the single staircase can meet the fire regulations of the local authority.
Location was excellent and the staff were courteous and very helpful. The fan helped with air circulation. It was quiet so able to rest OK
Air conditioning and a lift
The location is perfect in prime area. 5 minutes walk from the South Kensington tube, nice people and fairly clean.
Narrow steps leading up to the reception with no elevator, dirty carpet and curtains, very small bathroom impossible to close the door behind to use it.
No air conditioning, noisy with window open. Toilet did not flush properly, channels not good on TV, hairdryer did not work.
Small rooms, extremely warm and difficult to sleep in, a small table fan to help cool the room. We had a room on the top floor, no elevator to access, steep stairs not easy when lugging luggage.
