Hotel el Leñador - Mazamitla - Building
9.2 Excellent (337 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel el Leñador in Mazamitla, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Mazamitla Plaza and Mazamitla Temple. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location for shopping, sightseeing and just strolling
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location -- just 1-1/2 block from the plaza. Near the center of the city. By Mexico hotel standards, this one was excellent. Spotless and quiet. Staff was helpful - kept our bags when we arrive early, and again after we checked out until we let Mazamitla. Will definitely come back again. FYI -- two great restaurants: Villas Marias and Guinumo.
Cons: Not many negatives. No extras.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location near the plaza! Great public space and beautiful room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and close to main downtown
Cons: Really clean
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great value for the price. The hotel was EXTREMELY clean and well maintained. Recommend getting a room with a terrace on the 3rd floor. The hotel location is preferred because it's a few blocks from the noisy town center. Staff is an A+.
Cons: Not sure if there were washing machines or dryers running at night, but some sort of machinery was loud in the middle of the night. Ear plugs solved the noise problem.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Our room was spacious, clean, and had a lovely balcony. The proximity to the downtown square was perfect, in that it was far enough away to be quiet, but close enough to walk to in less than 5 minutes. Off street parking is available two blocks away upon request.
Cons: There is no elevator in this hotel and no ground-floor rooms. Ask for extra blankets at the desk if it is cold, because there is no heat in the rooms--no AC either, but that does't seem to be a problem in the Mazamilta climate.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: My room is with balcony, nice view. The room is big. Very clean n tidy. The rooftop is open, u can enjoy good view as well.
Cons: The wifi signal is always with problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the decorations of the public areas, the rooftop has a table and chairs, perfect for spending time sightseeing the town.
Cons: Every morning was a puzzle to figure how to get hot water from the shower. A really minor problem.

Pros: Well appointed chalet cottage, incl. mini kitchen + picture view of tranquil orchard garden. Garden was a joy to walk around and relax in. Parking onsite. Easy to find. Great value for money.
Cons: Quite a steep walk uphill from the centre (10 mins) but we knew that. Room a touch chilly at night (it was November) and no wood available for the fire. But not a big problem

4.3 Okay
Pros: Nice garden and a fireplace in the room.
Cons: There was no one else at the property, restaurants in town all closed at 7 pm so where to go?! No breakfast at location as we were the only guests, so at night by surprise we were given a voucher to go into town next morning.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The garden was beautiful and peaceful. I like having a chimney in the room; it helped with the cold nights

Cons: Good
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The included breakfast was quite nice! Very complete and a nice variety. Also, it was nice to be so close to the town square that we didn't really need to use the car
Cons: The beds were a little hard.
7.0 Good
Pros: The rooms were clean and bright. Ours came with 2 doubles.Never tried the T.V. so cannot say anything about that. The included breakfast was very good.
Cons: My bed was ultra firm and my wifes was very comfy. No soap dish in shower. Hot water was warm water and took a long time to warm up.
7.5 Good
Cons: Was really clean
5.0 Okay
Pros: Convenient to the plaza, restaurants and shopping.
Cons: There is no heat in the room or bath; 41F at night. Be prepared to climb several flights of stairs with your luggage. Take your own coffee as the mix left next to the coffee maker is a Mexican beverage with cinnamon and lots of sugar. There is no real coffee served in the hotel. Breakfast is traditional Mexican and everything drowned in red sauce. No one in the hotel speaks any english so polish up your Spanish. Breakfast and Mexican coffee (sugar and cinnamon) only available after 9 am. There is no Wifi in the rooms as the signal is very weak. Works in the restaurant. There is no lobby.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and well cared for property. The cabaña was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We would stay again at Monteverde Hotel Cabañas.
Cons: The bathroom of our chica cabaña was very small yet they installed a commercial toilet paper dispenser. It is bulky in size and didn’t match the rustic style of everything else in the cabaña.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Located in a forest. Very peaceful, quiet and romantic. Has a chimney for a nice romantic evening. Great for nearby hikes. Right in front of the place you can rent quad bikes and horses. The village is 10-15 minutes walking distance. Nice restaurants there and a great coffee shop on the main plaza.
Cons: Internet didn't work and staff were not helpful in getting it fixed. The couches could be a little more comfortable.
5.0 Okay
Pros: We were repeat guests and have always enjoyed staying at Monte Verde, but NOT this time!
Cons: We had NO water the first morning when we woke up. Then the next day, very poor water pressure. We had NO Internet in our location, therefore, we were unable to watch TV from our computer connection. We were charged $200 pesos for extra firewood … It was extremely cold in the cabin and rained all 3 days.
7.5 Good
Pros: Everything else, food was delicious at the kiosk
Cons: The chimney did not lit easily, we had to call reception a couple of times. Kitchen only had one knife, not very good one, there was no drying cloth either we had to use bathroom.towel The tour are not very trustworrhy, we nooked one and never went out, i dont know whats going to
5.8 Okay
Pros: Beautiful location.
Cons: !! Very important.!! This hotel has 3 types of cabins one has 3 rooms other 2 rooms and chalet is just a room all with chimney but only chalet has chimney in the room (so 2-3 bedrooms has no heating) and we especially booked this room and just before booking this hotel called hotel and made sure they had this type of room. And also said in the corner of booking “ last 2 rooms “ so I booked it. When got there they told me not available. Spoke to reservation asked to speak to manager they one Alejandra spoke but condescending tone saying she is already doing a favor by upgrading me to a 2 bedroom where I specifically didn’t want this. And kept saying this is long weekend and all our rooms are booked so if you want to cancel you are free to do it. I booked this room knowing that it’s long weekend from 3 weeks before how the heck I can find a room now? She said it’s your problem. Basically. Later some guy came to room introduce himself as hotel manager said tomorrow I have this room available when all people leave the hotel I’ll give you a room half price as a good will gesture I thought wow that is nice only to find the half price is exactly how much I paid I guess if you say full price was double thinking we are stupid or something?
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything! Thank you! This is the second time I choose to travel to Monteverde with my friends.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Check-in staff were adequate but distant in their demeanor. They were efficient and helped us when we needed it.
Cons: We were placed in a cabin that required 44 steps to reach - a bit tough on us older folk.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were clean, view pleasant. Parking was provided. Staff at the Kiosco was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: No heaters provided, No water provided after first day even though we were warned not to drink the tap water. No indoor restaurant, no heaters for outdoor restaurant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous place cabin in the woods.
Cons: On this occasion no Wi-Fi for three days Firewood deliveries slow and confused. Small details only!! We had a wonderful stay!!

Pros: Our host Estella is wonderful and welcoming. There is a lovely garden and it was very quiet and comfortable.
Cons: Nothing! It was all good.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Near to downtown good location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Estella, who is the actual owner's Mom, is the main employee and just about the sweetest person on Earth. She brought us some kind of homemade confection she had made herself once we were settled in--killer delicious--and when she discovered I had left my phone there she called the bus station to tell the ticket clerk, so she could tell me. Staying here is like staying at your Grandma's when you were little--you just feel taken care of.
Cons: The shower in the closet called the bathroom had nearly zero water pressure, emitted only a weak mist, and a cold one at that. My daughter braved it as long as she could, then washed here hair in the sink, which oddly had hot water. The shower was so ridiculous she even took a video of it.

Pros: Best bed I've ever slept in. And there was a giant jacuzzi tub in the room, which we didn't use, but it looked like fun.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The only thing that I liked about this facility was the location.
Cons: The cabins were really dirty it was so disgusting. We rented two cabins, one was a two bedroom, the sheets from the master bedroom were stain with blood! and they had pen marks everywhere. The couch in the living room was beyond dirty and stained. The second cabin was a suite it looked newer than the other family cabin, but the suite was super dirty too. The restroom had a lot of long hairs on the floors. The hot tub was really dirty too and there was stains in the walls.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The area is beautiful and the cabin ideal place to stay to relax.
Cons: The Club Suite was perfect but it needed cleaning and repair Someone could/should have checked it before we arrived. The toilet leaked, the coffee pot didn't work and the beds in one of the rooms, the top bedding was stained, a lot of. stains. Check in was quick but not very welcoming. Pros: the hotel is excellent value for money, close to the main square, clean, friendly staff.
Cons: Very noisy at evenings as cars with booming speakers pass constantly. But as the locals usually go to sleep early, it doesn't bother too much at nights :)
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location is good.
Cons: Bed mattress and pillows were quite hard my husband didn’t sleep well both nights we stayed. There was only 2 medium sized towels, not even hand or flour towel. When we put one of them on the floor by the shower, it became super dirty. That was a very dirty bathroom floor. Shower head sprayed water to every direction except the one it supposed to shower - on the person!!! Water was hot though. Overall quite overpriced in compare to hotels in the area. We did check prices around. And the last thing- room wasn’t cleaned by hotel service both days we were in the hotel.
7.5 Good
Pros: Pleasant staff, clean, lots of hot water, not a bad location and good value.
Cons: The room was with out windows, it may be that all windows are. My room was on the first floor, I don't think any of the rooms on the 2nd or 3rd floors were occupied. Noise was sometimes a problem, it travels right down the hallway from the entrance door and the reception area.
