10.0 Excellent
Pros: My stay here was amazing! The treehouse was cozy and I slept like a baby. The best thing about my stay was Melanie. She made sure I was happy and that my stay was perfect. If a taxi was even 5 minutes late, she was on the phone calling them. Also, the breakfast was delicious! I could not have asked for a better stay. Thank you Melanie!!!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything about the property. The family that owns and operates it was wonderful. Very kind and sincere. The treehouses were amazing, newly constructed. The location was wonderful. Too many good things to list.
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Highly recommended! The tree house was beautiful, newly built. It is in a forest where there is a night tour so a lot of animals to watch. People are nice and helpful. Breakfast was also great!
Cons: Hot water was a bit cold, hard for a shower but maybe the day we stayed there was chill.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I loved that the room was up in the trees...I enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the animals up in the trees. It was windy on our first night, so the house swayed a bit in the gusts. I loved that, but it made my husband nervous, so it takes a certain personality to really enjoy this. The hot shower was very nice and, although it is a small room, it was cozy and comfortable.
Cons: It was a bit small for a family of four, but not overly so. The driveway into the hotel area was rough, so it is necessary to drive slowly and carefully. We did not have a 4x4, just a small sedan, but we were able to drive there fairly easily. There were just a few rougher areas in the roads.
7.0 Good
Pros: Beautiful location and view from the room, amongst trees. Nice walking paths around the area. Friendly hosts. Good breakfast included.
Cons: no ventilation in the room...no fan and no screen on the windows, so with 4 people in the room it was stuffy. Lots of bugs outside, so we kept it closed up, and still had bugs inside too.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Me and my partner visited the Green tree BnB to visit monteverde, it is beautiful private and very romantic, it is located in the middle of a conservation area so you will basically be in the middle of a forest, and you can hear and see many wild animals. i would definately visit again , loved the place and recomend it.
Cons: the place is a bit far from town but thats easily remedied since the taxis to town are cheap and available by just a call
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the tree house setting; modern amenities and breakfast included. There are walking trails around the property to spot wildlife and the host family is really nice, helpful and happy. They also have livestock and planted on their property to yield fruits and other native species. We feel privileged to have stayed with this family.
Cons: You need a 4x4 or higher clearance vehicle here but that’s not a deal breaker for us. Most of Monteverde that you want to see is in 4x4 areas so plan accordingly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff, really friendly and helpful
Cons: Only negative was loud rain but it has to be expected in a cloud forest - maybe a green roof would help :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place in the tree Vrey kind staff PERFERTO PURA VIDA
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very sweet and clean tree houses with a beautiful location inside the rain forest. You can hear so many animal voices day and night (can be loud at night when it rains, but this is a great adventure as well). The host was really nice and the breakfast was great. Price-performance ratio is absolutely incredible.
Cons: WiFi is not working well, TV neither. The location is a bit outside of Santa Elena, but not a big problem if you have a car.

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and refrigerator in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The host was the best of our trip. We felt welcomed as in "deluxe hotel". Always smiling and very handsome. The breakfast is PERFECT: Fresh fruits, eggs and toast. The location is perfect, you must go walk around and in the centro. IT'S CHEAP PRICE and we love it!
Cons: Door was not easy to unlock, they should give advice about it. I have to say, I found a HUGE spider in the bathroom, the one you don't want to see. It's not the fault of anyone but I guess it goes with more cold air. Bed was not very confortable, but the price of the room make you easily forget it. ;)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic guy at a reception! Good coffee and breakfast! Good price!
Cons: Sound isolation between the rooms could be better.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff was incredibly nice! Loved it there!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super nice owner with excellent english Room was nice and clean I can highly recommend it
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The family that runs the place is amazingly kind and hospitable! They provided information on buses to the local reserva and transportation options out of Monteverde. A local bus even stopped outside the door to take me to St Elena park. Very convenient. The room was very comfortable and the hostel quiet too.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed our stay at Hostel Cattleya a lot. The owner is very friendly and was happy to answer all our questions and to give us recommendations about things to do in the area. The newly built kitchen is super clean and it was fun to cook and eat together with other guests. We also loved the breakfast that was included for free! We can only recommend staying here! Thanks to Jonathan and his team!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed three nights in a private room. The place was really clean with great kitchen facilities. We really loved the common space and the owner was always around and really helpful. It was out of town by a couple minutes walk but all buses to main attractions passed by. I wish we could have stayed longer!

Overview Reviews
Located in Sierra, Belcruz Bed & Breakfast is a 5-minute drive from Wildlife Refuge Monteverde and 8 minutes from Monteverde Orchid Garden. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Randall and his family were so wonderful. They made this stay so lovely.
Cons: Would have liked a fan in the room. The hot water also did not work.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location and amazing host! Randall was so helpful and welcoming. He greeted us with coffee upon arrival and helped us book our activities for the next day right away. We were pretty wiped out after the rough drive up the roads there. It was wonderful to have help planning our ziplining excursion and getting directions into town for the evening. I wish we had more time to stay here! Binoculars are provided for bird watching. It is a beautiful property and seemed like a low-key, mellow crowd when we were there. Good breakfast with option of eggs. Homemade granola and jam were great! And lots of fresh fruit.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful wooden cabin in stunning scenery No tv - just nature No a/c - just fresh air Friendly helpful people Good shower pressure Great breakfast Super restaurant watching hummingbirds feeding
Cons: Needed a taxi to get to the village or activities (If you have a car - no problem)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I would highly recommend Belcruz B&B to anyone traveling to the Monteverde area. Our room was spacious and spotless. It was just two of us but there were two rooms that could easily accommodate 4 people. The owner put a lot of time and thought into the landscaping and property. I enjoyed the little hike between the rooms and the restaurant. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. My favorites were the homade granola and jam. The hospitality of the owner was some of the best I've encountered anywhere. He was genuinely happy to have us there and went out of his way to accommodate. A great value overall. I will stay here again if I return to the area.
Cons: No complaints.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: - Comfortable beds - View from balcony - Very good breakfast - Tea/Coffee on the house - Owner courtesy - Value for money - Birding opportunity from restaurant balcony
Cons: - Toiletries included only 2 small soap bars.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and food overall. Clean rooms with everything needed. Friendly owner who is ready to help. 20-25 minutes to Monteverde cloud forest. Nice view from the terrace.
Cons: Sometimes can hear noise of local cars trying to manage bumpy road.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Host was amazing, committed and homely vibe to the b&b
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Randall and his family provided an impressive service; the breakfast was superb and the rooms are good enough. The hotel is a bit far from Santa Elena, but it's definitely worth the trip for the price.
Cons: Nothing to add here.
7.5 Good
Pros: The view from the property over the mountains was beautiful - the sunset and mountains and the quiet. The staff (family run) were lovely - very friendly, helpful, nice home cooked breakfast, attentive with the room, luggage and taxi. It felt like a very cosy and warm farm type stay.
Cons: The property is 30min walk or 10min taxi to the nearest town of Santa Elena on a dusty road - the road stretches across the whole area. The room was comfortable but basic (no fan or air con, the shower drain was smelly so had to keep the bathroom window open).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent help with tours and general information
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly staff (owners and family) but at the same time not invasive at all. Very nice cabin-like rooms, with comfy bed and nice bathroom and shower. Staff very attentive into details.
Cons: Those travelling with Claro mobile (wouldn’t recommend it for a start) won’t have signal, there’s no WiFi in the rooms either so enjoy the time disconnected by connecting with partners, friends or strangers, or just reading a good book.
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Casa Jungle Monteverde Bed & Breakfast in Monteverde, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Monteverde Orchid Garden and Monteverde Butterfly Garden (Jardin de Mariposas). The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This casa offers five well-kept rooms that are next to each other. The decoration of the covered space is very beautiful. Everywhere there are beautiful wall paintings. There are also small rooms with a bunk bed in addition, which limits mobility. Clean but small bathroom. The sink is even difficult to reach. Very friendly welcome and Manuel does his utmost to provide correct information without imposing himself! Delicious breakfast ... Once you have found your way, you feel at home!
Cons: From the bus station it is quite a few steps. Moreover, there are few indications. For those who are traveling by car, it is ideally located: from the center and with parking! The Cloud Forest is located further than indicated on the booking site, not 3.5 but 6 km! Attention: thin room walls!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Included delicious breakfast. Fully equipped shared kitchen. Quiet, yet only 5 minute walk to center of town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 5min walk to town. Nice quiet location. Close to shops. Clean. Staff very helpful with any travel plans. Good breakfast. Secure.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Emmanuel was super helpful, allowed us to check in early and helped with booking activities in Monteverde. The room wasn’t great and breakfast was really tasty.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to everything, family run, they treat you like one of the family. It is really convenient that they can handle arranging tours and transportation for you, and they are really able to show you the Pura Vida! They spend time with each guest, and that really makes the experience top notch! Great location, close to everything, also great to take mini siestas in the hammocks. Will definitely be back on our next Pura Vida vacation.
Cons: There’s no real negatives to the property. It’s cozy, quiet, close to everything, affordable. Don’t think I would change anything.
7.0 Good
Pros: The staff (Emmanuel and his mother) really did a great job making us feel welcome and were very considerate. Breakfast was very good for the money you pay. Great homemade coffee too.
Cons: There was no hot water for the shower and the bed was pretty hard.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Emmanuel and the staff were very welcoming and was more than happy to help answer questions I had. He helped booked tours on the spot and gave recommendations on how to get around the area! The room was great after a long day of activities and the location is an easy walk to town.
Cons: There’s not much sound proofing in the room and since there is no AC you have to have the windows open for ventilation so if there’s other guests that are very loud it is very easy to be kept up at night.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is outstanding. Beautiful grounds and the staff are wonderful; very personal in their service. The food is some of the best in the area. The room was stunning, you don't need any air con as it's cool enough. We saw a huge amount of wildlife from the moment we arrived, often right outside our room. Watching the cloud float in over the swimming pool was mesmerising! Simply brilliant hotel all round. I honestly cant fault it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel for the price, great parking and location, walking distance to town and short drive to national parks. Lovely a la carte breakfast. Fantastic service, especially liked the little touches of robes in the room, nice turn down service and was welcomed by name at the door when we arrived. The grounds are also beautiful, lots of lovely common areas, gardens and beautiful views.
Cons: Rooms were a little small and dark where we stayed, but kingsize bed made up for it and it was super comfortable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Paradise within paradise.
Cons: Absolutely nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hotel - staff are lovely and go above and beyond. Organised lots of trips for us (night tour, ziplining) which were fab and good value for money in low season when not many other tourists are around. Lots of nice extra touches in room - turndown service each night with fresh water and cookies left in room, towels to wipe your muddy boots after the forest. Our room was lovely and big with a nice outdoor area with a hammock. The grounds are amazing - stunning views and lots of areas to relax and spot wildlife.
Cons: Nothing - would thoroughly recommend.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, incredible setting and great food.
Cons: Walls were a bit thin if you had noisy neighbours or people talking in the corridor.

Cons: I liked everything about the property beautiful place! Just be careful aware that if you’re driving to do your research because we took a horrible route but we’re have been told there’s is a slightly better one to get to the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was awesome. For a family of 4, easily a $50 value and well worth it.

Cons: Everything was fine.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is good with fruits plate in additional for omelet & toasts. Coffey is real & excellent with only comparison to Starbucks at best.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice family-run hotel, they are very kind. Spacious room. Nice breakfast with good coffee. They will also give you all tips and information you need for walks and tours in the surroundings!
Cons: It is a little walk out of town, like 10 minutes, just so you know, but everything is closeby! Please don't make the mistake to eat at the Italian restaurant nextdoor (1 minute walk down).. the food there is awful :( so preferably follow the tips of the family for nice restaurants/food, and walk to another restaurant, even if it's late and even if you are tired :) :P
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Super clean, friendly family business, well located, hot water
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean Central location Can’t beat the price Friendly owners
Cons: Wish we could have stayed longer!
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff was wonderful. Very kind people and very gracious. For the price it's a good value. Loved the breakfast and the sheets were soft and warm.
Cons: The bed was very squeaky and the pillows were very thin. The towels were rough as well. Also there were come cobwebs in the window in the bathroom. They are all things that can be easily fixed though.
7.5 Good
Pros: The room is super clean Good bed with a small table at each side Good shower Friendly family hotel
Cons: Wifi signal is very low both in the room and in the breakfast room. Breakfast is a minimum. We regret that upon our inquiry only activities are mentioned which provide commission when the hotel makes the reservation. The other activities are unknown. However these are the ones we wanted to do. Examples: Bat-garden, frog garden. The night activity proposed was not good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked that it is a proper well made building, all closed up to prevent wind and rain to come to corridors and rooms, the best thing is that it is a family hotel, no staff, just family, like the Homestays in Vietnam, which made the experience very welcoming. Also Andrey is very helpful and he will offer the best deals for tours and recommend you cool places to see in Monteverde, It's 5 minutes from the old town by the main road
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious room! So comfortable! The hosting family is so sweet! Great, filling breakfast and deliciouuuuuus coffee (be sure to buy, because it is cultivated locally!) We had a great stay. It was close to all main Monteverde attractions.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was very good, spacious, and with good lighting. Bed was comfy and had clean sheets and blankets. The bathroom is also spacious and the pressure on the shower head was great. Night sleep is a 10/10! Good portion on breakfast and well balanced: orange juice, fruit plus the main dish. The staff is friendly, they have tons of recommendations on activities around the area and they can help you set up any of them.
Cons: The room has no view and the bed had only two pillows (one pillow per person), but these are small details. Overall our stay was great!
Hotel Belmar - Monteverde - Building

9.1 Excellent (255 reviews)

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service, staff, and boarding.
Cons: My only gripe would be that since the restaurant was above our room, the staff would wake us up when they dragged chairs to tables in the morning to prepare for breakfast. Other than that, this place was AMAZING!!!
6.8 Good
Pros: Beautiful balcony and nice restaurant to watch the sunsets. Really good microbrewery on site!
Cons: Breakfast wasn't included. I thought it was. The decor is a LOT of wood.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome Location with a great staff!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Farm to Table restaurant is great. Though would be nice to include a breakfast at least. Got a great B&B cabin feel, walk out to the balcony and teleport into Costa Rica's famous cloud forest. Get up early in the morning and catch all the birds waking up and do what they do best.
Cons: Cleaning could be a bit more meticulous. It's nice place for a romantic spot. Thought it is on the higher spectrum of price point for attempting to maintain the boutique aspect. Being it the off-season there is some extra's to be longing for. I'm glad I didn't run into any of the "snobs" this place could possibly attract. Though always go in with minimal expectation and go with your gut feeling. Pura Vida!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous views and comfy rooms
Cons: Far away from everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved this gem!!! From the grounds, food, staff, and all the bird watching. Highly recommend
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Belmar was unique and had a very cozy feel. We were upgraded to the Sunrise Room. This was a great room that provided fantastic views of the mountains and valley. The staff were very friendly and were able to quickly help. One of the highlights was the food. The menu is farm to table and showcases the Hotel's own farm. Every meal was very good. The Hotel also has a great brewery. I tried their 3 regular beers (Pale Ale, IPA and Tropical Stout) as well as their season Kolsch. These were excellent and really demonstrated their local ingredients and styles.
Cons: We were on the top floor of the chalet building and it was quite windy our entire stay. It was noisy due to this and the building would shake a little. Not the Hotel's fault, but something to be aware of. The other thing that was an issue, but out of control of the Hotel itself was the entitled guests. I was embarrassed by the other US tourists which included inattentive mother indulging in selfies in the jacuzzi while her unruly children splashed around and were terrible, another that started an argument with the restaurant staff about their destruction of the earth because they served meat on the menu (Note Hotel Belmar runs a sustainable farm to table and are part of the solution) and finally the people complaining that the wine by the glass was not the one they wanted. The Hotel and the staff handled all these people with grace but I wish other US tourists would act like the guests they are in other countries.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The balcony in the room that let’s you listen to the breeze of the forest
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was beautiful! Tours were great! Food was awesome!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very welcoming and helpful. They helped us book a ziplining excursion and scheduled a pick up. Our suite had a swing with beautiful views!
Cons: Most other hotels offer complimentary breakfast and for the price of this hotel, it would have been nice if breakfast was included.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff was super friendly and accommodating in every way. There is a bird feeder in the lovely garden, and there were a lot of birds visiting it. The breakfast was delicious and generous. The front desk made some reservations for us. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

9.2 Excellent (85 reviews)

With a stay at Cabañas La Montaña in Monteverde, you'll be in the mountains, within a 15-minute drive of Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve and Monteverde Orchid Garden. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This it's the second time I chose this place to stay when visiting Monteverde. In general Santa Elena town and surroundings has A LOT of options, there's something for every taste. I really love this place as it is embedded in the property forrest, extremely peaceful and soothing!!! Breakfast it's awesome and the family that runs this place it's very close to my heart!! Always enjoy the lengthy chats with Eli and Teresa... really good people!! You genuinely feel welcome and appreciated! PS. There's a convenience store located within walking distance (on the gas station)
Cons: Well, it's a little bit on the outskirts of Santa Elena town (about 2km uphill). But hey, peace, nature and birds sounds from the property comes at some price. If you want to go to Santa Elena's to dine, wine, grab a coffee or find souvenirs you'll need to hike there if you don't have a car. At night it can be tricky as the road it's pretty dark for a walk; limited sidewalks, in some parts they are absent and elsewhere are under construction. Still, everything considered, it feels somehow safe to walk.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The forrest view waiting for you as soon as you open the curtains!!! The quiet and peaceful ambiance all around the cabins. Lots of trees surrounding the cabins; you hear the wind flow through the trees and the birds chirping; one night I even saw an armadillo passing by the cabin!!! Mr. Eli and Mrs. Tere are great hosts, very warm, friendly and accommodating!! VERY good people with great conscience on making their business sustainable. You just don't want to leave!!
Cons: Really hard to find something... Maybe a little far from the town of Santa Elena and natural reserves, which actually makes this a great place to relax and rest! If you have a car you'll have no issues whatsoever. Otherwise, use parks/reserves shuttles or seek assistance with your hosts. Not a deal breaker at all, just something to keep in mind!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, breakfast, isolation
Cons: Windy location in forest so a little noisy when we were there. Coffee in room would be good.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, clean, comfortable, very friendly host, excellent breakfast.
Cons: A bit minimalist for the cost, comparative to other places we stayed in CR.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: the environment which surrounded by forest
Cons: nil
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It felt like being greeted by family upon arrival! A warm welcome complete with fresh coffee after a long drive was really great. Tracy and her family are excellent hosts and the cabins are loaded with rustic charm and are very well built - wish we had stayed longer! Breakfast was homecooked and incredible - great little oasis in the forest!
Cons: The wind was a little intense during our stay which made it a bit loud for sleeping but I think that could be easily overcome and shouldnt disuade anyone from staying at this excellent and authenic place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location just outside of busy tourist town. Wonderful interaction with the family that built and runs the business. Tracy's information on where and what to do was very helpful and well done. Tere's breakfast was delicious; fresh fruit, coffee, OJ, pancakes, gallo pinto, eggs to order, and more. Nice setting in the forest with trails. The cabanas exhibit a wonderful use of local rustic materials. They even have a very comfortable wheelchair accessible cabin. Truly a special experience with a wonderful family.
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Peacefull
Cons: No new sheets or towels during our 3 day stay
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very warm welcome from hosts, breakfasts, forest location, neat to town.
Cons: Coffee in rooms would be nice. Noisy in windy weather in our bungalow.
6.3 Good
Pros: The hostess was very helpful and took special care for our vegetarian diet.
Cons: The bed was inferior quality. The cabin looked old and little creapy.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Seemed more like a luxury hotel. Grounds were landscaped with statuary around. Pool was perfection in the heat. Free coffee all day, even a microwave available and soda machine. Room and bathroom were clean, and air conditioning was wonderful. Puntarenas is hot. At night easy walk to lighthouse, and malacon where families enjoyed the waterfront and socializing.
Cons: Nothing. It was a little oasis.

Pros: Nice and clean, close to restaurants and beach, ferry is 2 min walk . Good friendly staff.

Pros: Location was perfect! Puntarenas gets a bad review from most people. I have NO CLUE why??? We LOVED it here! So happy we included it in our itinerary!!

Pros: Spacious rooms, very comfortable bed, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful gardens and private swimming pool. Just a few steps to the sea in either direction. Excellent air conditioning in bedrooms and a fridge which was an unexpected bonus

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place was very clean and the staff were excellent! We loved their coffee, which we enjoyed every morning at 6 am. They were very accomodating. We had been travelling for a while so I needed to do some laundry. They helped us out and made it possible for us to have clean clothes again. The swimming pool was great! Very clean! We also loved walking by the beach and truly enjoyed the sunsets. The ferry was about a block away, there are several restaurants and tour-boats around. Even though they are situated in a busy area the place was very quiet.
Cons: The rooms are very comfy and clean, but they could be a little bigger. They are great for a short stay!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The pool Location Available Coffee
Cons: Free wifi

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extraordinary location and Esteban is a perfect host. The rooms were immaculate and just right in size and comfort. The patio was fun. We have pictures of birds and butterflies right outside. Food in the morning was terrific. I can’t believe how inexpensive it was.
Cons: The drive way could be a challenge for anyone with physical impairment. It is very steep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Familyrun hotel. Friendly and helpful people. Clean and large room. Close to Monteverde cloud forest and Curi Cancha reserve. No lunch and dinner facility at hotel. With a car this is no problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room, very clean and comfortable!!! Wake up with the birds song is priceless!! Breakfast is fantastic and lovely staff!!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The host István was sooo accommodating and attentive to our every need! Made great, cheap transportation requirements, even ordered take away pizza delivery for us! ❤️ Beautiful gardens, lovely quickly made breakfast. Simple, comfortable, private rooms. Lots of hot water for showers.
Cons: It’s hard to complain about such an idyllic property. The driveway hill is a challenge walking up with luggage but found most shuttles will help you all the way up! You will need to take a taxi ($4-5) to get to Santa Elena! The restaurant across hiway is very pricey, so if you’re budget travelers, plan to buy fruit and snacks for cabin.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Esteban is the family owner and took care of us. He was very responsive to emails, our excursion requests and breakfast. Lovely b&b.
Cons: It was colder than we expected with no heat in the rooms and the provisions are very basic. WiFi worked but no TV or land line in rooms.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The apartment was more spacious and better appointed than I had expected with wonderful views. The owners were friendly and helpful and provided a good local breakfast. I wish we had stayed longer!
Cons: The property was not easy walking distance from the restaurants and main village amenities - but well situated for access by hire car to the cloudforest and other attractions.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good, there were humming birds just outside the breakfast area, what's not to like The room we had was superb, with a lovely view on the garden and wildlife
Cons: Nothing, it was truly lovely. If you want a TV they don't have them but in our opinion if you want to watch TV you shouldn't be in the cloud forest in the first place.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: breakfast was good and more than adequate. Location was great, the only thing that we felt was lacking was owing to the high moisture in the area and the huge amounts of rain experienced in this area it would be great for visitors to have access to an electric clothes dryer in order to dry the wet and damp clothing that everyone visiting must experience. Coin operated would be just fine.
Cons: all was good
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly family bed and breakfast. We upgraded to the larger appartment whilst checking in as it has a terrace outside to sit and watch the birds from. Its a basic appartment (no heating or TV) but it was clean and comfortable and the WiFi works well. The man on reception (owner?) was very helpful with suggestion tours but not at all pushy with it. I would stay here again

10.0 Excellent
Pros: From day one Uli was the most outstanding host you coud wish for. She made us feel part of a family-and nothing was too much trouble. Also gace my son a chance to practice in Spanish.....and who could ask for a better view?
Cons: Very difficult to fault...but a fan in the room could have been helpful. Also one or two holes for the pesky mozzies, which need a small bit of attention.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous property, beautiful view! Very relaxing being in nature. Uli is the best! She really goes out of her way to make you feel at home and ensure that you have a great stay!

Pros: Absolutely amazing views and as a consequence beautiful sunsets. Clean, nice room and beds and fab breakfast. Lots of advice and help booking tours. All super and highly recommended. Two nice queen sized beds for two adults and two children.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The family was very kind! The place was beautiful.
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is very convenient, close to main areas of interest in the area, and the views from the cabin were impressive. The breakfast was excellent to start the day in the rainforest, including fresh fruit and juice. The staff was very helpful, kind, and friendly. They provided advice and tips on what to visit and facilitated booking activities.
Cons: The kitchen only had a microwave and a fridge, and basic utensils (plates, cutlery, and glasses), so don't expect to cook big meals. It was not an issue for us, as we could still store some basic items we had, and food options downtown were also great.
6.3 Good
Pros: We LOVED LOVED Monteverde. This hotel was close to the center of town. We liked David and his staff. The view from our room and the (Costa Rican raccoons??) were cute to feed the food to. It was about 10-15 min walk into the center of town which was nice but keep in mind the hills are steep However we didn’t mind at all especially since it reminded me of my Colombian uncle’s farm.
Cons: I’m sorry to say but we were not happy overall with our experience at this (“hotel”???)especially for what we paid which was a total of $271 for 2 nights. We accidentally came across the glamping hotel across the way which was offered to us for $185 for the last night we were there and we came so close to doing it even bough we would have paid for both places that’s how much we were disappointed with our stay. Now, if this was $60-70 per night, it might have been more acceptable but for what the other hotels were charging, I felt the rate was way too high. A few reasons why.. 1) when we arrived, we (including our 2 girls ) were told in order to get to our room , we had to either go over or under barbed wire fence. I’m sure in the CR way of life, this is no big deal but unacceptable when your running a hotel and asking more than $120 a night. My youngest scraped her back going under in the evening. 2) the room was too hot to sleep in. I understand it is mostly very cool most of the year which is why they provide thick blankets however when all doors and windows are shut with no options to keep open due to NO screens on the windows (otherwise you share the room with all sort of flying insects ) OR ceiling fans, the room becomes hot and stuffy. Mattress were worn out with no top sheet provided only a scratchy fitted sheet. 3) shower is practically non existent. Water barely drips out leaving us to shower awkwardly in a corner in order to get some water on our bodies. Barley warm water came out. This would have been fine if I wanted to camp but I feel the reviews and photos were a bit misleading. I think the owners are trying to keep it as best they can however when your competing with similar hotels charging the same ballpark prices, it’s time to make some necessary changes. 4) the breakfast was ok but they served you what they wanted. 3 out of 4 of us don’t do gluten but somehow pancakes ended up on our plates anyway. They all went to the raccoons.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is not in middle of the forest, as you can judge based on same pisctures, but there are forest around and animals do really come. During our stay we saw coati, aquti and monkeys. Rooms are ok, with no trills. But views from the place and sunsets are something to remember. If it only for views it is enough to pick the place. It is in a walking distance to town, so having car in not a must (we walk with kids every evening forth and back).
Cons: There are at times problems with hot water, it happens that it is only warm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was super friendly. Pillows we're comfortable. Pool area is cute.
Cons: Need hooks or hanging storage in rooms.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved the friendly staff and how welcoming they were to our 3 month old baby, the delicious breakfast, the animals surrounding the property and the view. Our room was lovely and unique.
Cons: The room doesn’t have any ventilation so the temperature of the room is impossible to control. Also the shower never got hotter than lukewarm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is simple and many animals on the property. The monkeys played right outside our door. The morning breakfast was excellent and the family was very nice. I you have to have a super fancy place to stay, this is not for you. The room was clean and all you need for a nights sleep.
Cons: My family loved the relaxing time with great views. We traveled with a 15 and 13 yr old and they liked this place more than the 3-4 star hotels we stayed in.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We saw so many animals at the hotel. There were a family of coati (about 30) who visited every breakfast, 2 agoutis, 2 large big black monkeys swinging from branch to branch, and beautiful birds from the quetzal family. Breakfast was served by the owners who were warm, friendly and helpful. They made us feel welcome!
Cons: The drive to the hotel was steep; so you need a 4x4, specially if it rains, the roads aren’t paved and mud can set in.

Pros: We loved everything about our stay at the Monteverde Inn; it was a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. They went the extra mile; even loaning me a yoga mat!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The property is situated in a private nature reserve with lovely walks. The views are excellent and we really enjoyed the peace and quite.
Cons: The rooms are very basic and quite small.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location overlooking the valleys into the peninsula with a pleasant sunset view. The staff were very nice and helpful. My son got sick and the manager was quickly called the owner to bring a thermometer. Eric and the ladies at the front desk were very helpful with tours and information. The waiters at the restaurant made us feel at home. Great services. The room services ladies were very nice and took care of our requests.
Cons: Variable weather being on top of the mountain. Got very rainy and cooler at night. Big temperature swings. Water was slight cool for shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Views are stunning. The private trails are interesting and packed with wildlife.. IF you have the patience to wait and listen. We saw capuchin monkeys, agouti, coatis, vultures, toucans, toucanets and even the bell bird (Google it!) ..... Wonderful. Food was also good, staff super friendly and the owner a mine of information.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A perfect place to stay! From the moment I arrived, everything was great. The staff (in particular Erick and Stefanny) were SO helpful - they recommended tours, booked these for me, assisted me with taxis and bus timetables, and were just generally really accommodating. Monteverde Inn is located on a private nature reserve, so there's a short hike that you can do through the day, or the Night Walk in the evening. I saw so many animals and the views from the reserve are spectacular. I would thoroughly recommend this location as your base whilst in Monteverde.
Cons: The location is a little out of the way, but is absolutely worth the short walk for the incredible views. I would recommend taking a taxi when you have luggage as the hill from the town centre to the location is quite steep.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff and wonderful views in a very relaxing location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really great place to stay in Monte Verde. The location is really great, the views in the garden, the room, the breakfast, the reserve... nothing to change !
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Great for people who do not care about quality stays and are looking for cheap.
Cons: Roaches at the dining table, rock hard beds, no couches/living room, no AC, noisy small fans, dirty bed linens that smelled of sweat and dead skin, broken plumming that didn't allow water to drain in shower, shower rod poorly installed landed on my sons head.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location with magnificent view And the inspiring filosofie of permaculture Very nice jazz music in the evening
Cons: A correct but sober breakfast Maybe more fruit?

Pros: Nice Hostel with a beautiful little garden and absolutely friendly staff. Huge kitchen that can be used for own cooking. Delicious breakfast
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, very helpful. Nice quiet location. Good value. Fantastic breakfast. Coffee and tea available at all times.
Cons: Relatively long walk into town - would be much easier with a car.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This hostel was one of the best ones, we have ever stayed at. It felt just like home there. The staff is super friendly and ready to help any minute. The kitchen is very well furnished and modern. Our room was very clean and lovely. The hostel has also nice chilly outdoor area.
Cons: The road to the hostel has been renewed, when we were there, so we had to drive a bit longer other road. But the road to the hostel should be even better now :)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The terrace is amazing. It's completely sheltered from the wind, has a lot of space and is a great place to unwind. Self service tea was awesome, access to kitchen a blessing.
Cons: The noise. It's VERY windy and it makes an incredible amount of noise around the upstairs room. Seriously almost scary. The breakfast. Except for the fruit, I really did not like the taste of any of it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic customer service and great breakfast. The place is quiet and at about a 10 minute walk from the business of the town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Team was truly friendly and always welcomed us with a smile. The rooms are really comfy and the bathroom is big and lightfull. We got some great Tipps for excursions and the daughter also made reservations for us. The breakfast was tasty and we could decide between pancakes (so good) and toasts with fresh fruits and juice. Water, Tee and Coffee was for free all the day which was fantastic. The kitchen is perfectly equipped and the fridge is big enough. The little yard in the middle is really comfy and beautiful. We also had a parking space. We recommend a coffee tour and a tour in one of the parks (day or night or both).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owners are super friendly and their daugther speaks really good english. She could help us with all our questions about tours and buses. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The Breakfast was amazing.
Cons: With a lot of luggage the Hostel is a bit far away from the bus Drop Off, but the owner gave us a ride even though we were leaving at 5 am for the bus.
9.3 Excellent
Cons: The room was clean and comfortable, the shared kitchen well equipped, there was great coffee and tea available at any time and the pancakes served for breakfast were delicious! The staff was very accommodating, kind and always smiling.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped us with booking tours and discussions about what to do, where, and when to do it.
Cons: The worst thing was a dog next door that liked to bark during the night. Not anything that they could control, it is part of having neighbors. I would say that it is surprising that the neighbors weren’t bothered by their own dog.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff Was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a lot.
Cons: Nothing. We had a car that was nice at this location.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s a beautiful place in a perfect location. Very comfortable, very convenient, beautiful views, close to the cloud forest and town. Comfortable beds, nice shower, hair dryer in the room, fully equipped kitchen, lovely gardens, laundry available. Most wonderful place we’ve stayed in so far
Cons: The only minus was - no breakfast... but there are many places nearby so it’s not such a big issue
6.8 Good
Cons: The first night they didn't give us the room with a view that we had booked. And they did not even give us a discount for the error. They claimed that it was acceptable to change to lower grade room if needed too. Totally unacceptable business practice.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice little apartment, use of washing machine and dryer is a bonus. Grounds are beautiful and even have a small soccer field to kick around. Has kitchenette with everything you need.
Cons: The TV in the living room, smaller table with comfy chairs/couch.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Architecturally very pleasing, great design touches, comfortable beds, great view, very reasonably priced, convenient and central to everything in Monteverde. Our family truly enjoyed our stay.
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean with character
Cons: No heating Location a bit strange at the back of a Spanish school
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A little apartment away from downtown, but still very close to it. Amazing view of the lake. Beautiful garden outside the casa.
Cons: No place to lounge inside (couch, etc), but it was still a superior upgrade from a regular hotel room!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The appartments are situated on the road towards Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (however, we would suggest going there by car as the way is quite far to go on foot) and is hence ideally situated. A small supermarket as well as some restaurants are in walking distance (a list of recommendations is provided by the owners of the appartments as well as other useful information on the area). The appartment was very modern and clean and has everything you may need, includig coffee, oil, a dishwasher, laundry room etc. so you can cook yourself if you should want to. We especially liked the well-tended garden of the house. We were also positively suprised by the fact that the appartment was cleaned every day, including taking care of the dishwahser. The administrators are located in the closeby language school (CPI) and are very helpful should you need tipps for getting around. We would always recommend staying here. Given the generally high prices in Monteverde, this was a great value-for-money choice and we enjoyed our stay a lot.
Cons: Nothing not to like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed the stay and Rolando was right on with helping us book Tours
Cons: The kitchen chairs were hard to set on
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Incredible view from the room. Stunning sunsets, we even had rainbow one morning. Very comfortable and clean. Good kitchen, made many of our meals there
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent. Rolando, who checked us in, was most helpful with restaurants, sites to visit etc. He also recommended and booked a birding guide for us. Because of iffy weather, we went out with Christian Mene two days. A great guide! Thanks to everyone at Casa del Toro!!
Cons: Nothing that Casa del Toro could affect. The roads are horrendous getting into town. Bouncing around for hours was not helpful for my bad back!

6.3 Good
Pros: Awesome location! Most of the staff was also super friendly. Sadly, the cleaning staff was super rude. Stayed there a full week and had to kindly ask if they could clean our room. Only cleaned it twice:( but no worries. I would still recommend this place but only if you don’t mind cleaning your own room!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is excellent, very close to the downtown and to the Orchid cafe which is for sure the best breakfast place we have visited in a long time! The Lodge has a beautiful garden and common areas, except perhaps for our house which was a bit away from other cottages and lacked both the view and a nice outside sitting area. The staff were courteous and helpful.
Cons: There were no hooks or laundry rests in the bathroom or elsewhere in the house which made it very difficult to dry our towels and clothes. The bunk bed in the living area was a bit creaky and wobbly. The windows faced the road going up to the Reception, so we lacked the privacy that other cottages seem to enjoy.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great!
Cons: Wish there were ceiling fans in the rooms for extra air flow
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location very close to town but still surrounded by a well kept garden and secondary forest that backs onto the property. Great short walking track through the forest for guests to use. Breakfast was tasty, varied (continental and local) and buffet style. We booked an economy quadruple room for 3 which was tight but worked well for what we needed - don’t know where the luggage would go if there were 4 people. The staff were very helpful and friendly, we booked our airport transfers through them which worked out cheaper than independent companies.
Cons: We saw the 2 cats that belong to the property chasing some wildlife - would be good if they had bells on them or something to give the wildlife a chance.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Awesome location in walking distance to a shops and restaurants. Simple rooms with own private baths. Breakfast (paid for separately) was outstanding. The grounds were beautiful. Staff was attentive and friendly (including the pets)!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, setting, quality of accommodation, staff.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious, and the location is super convenient for walking around Santa Elena. The drive to Monteverde went faster than I expected, too. The grounds are gorgeous, too. So peaceful!
Cons: The bunk bed I had was fine, but I just couldn't sleep much. The ladder steps up to the top bunk were awkward and started very high, so it was difficult to get up to the top. Mattress was a bit thin. But this was an economy room, no frills, and the rate matched what we got. The cabin itself was very cute and well constructed. If you want a really comfy bed, get a more expensive room.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location was very good - lots of restaurants walkable Front desk at check in was very friendly and helpful, the remainder of the time the desk staff seemed disinterested
Cons: Cabin was dated, and while I realize we were in the “forest” there were many, many ants and earwigs in the cabin at all times which made things very uncomfortable Breakfast was lacking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff and also the breakfast were outstanding. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of variety of breakfast foods. The grounds are beautiful. Our room was very big.
Cons: The beds were ok but not super comfortable
8.3 Excellent
Pros: They serve a small but tasty breakfast. The location is great: you are staying in a chalet that’s surrounded by trees, birds and monkeys and all lovely restaurants are just around the corner.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing!!! Lovely big room and really friendly staff.
Cons: The shared bathroom facilities were okay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Claro de Luna was a dream! The grounds are beautifully landscaped and well maintained. The staff was beyond helpful in assisting us with excursions and travel plans. The room was beautiful and we loved the porches with the rocking chairs. Highly recommend!
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely helpful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very handy for town + stunning wildlife. We saw toucans and hummingbirds in the hotel grounds. Highly recommended.
Cons: Fabulous place. Breakfast was a bit limited for my children. It could have been improved with some red jam for pancakes and toast. (They didn't like the cinnamon marmalade) Hardly a deal breaker!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Staff was amazing! They were very helpful in booking tours and they went out of their way to show us the sloth that lived on their grounds. They grounds were so beautiful with the tropical flowers maintained and clean. The beds were comfortable but my mother thought they were too firm but they were perfect for me and my girls. The breakfast was very nice. It is less then a 5 min walk to the heart of the city and restaurants. Over all an amazing location and I can't wait to go back.
Cons: The only thing is I wish the hotel had a pool or hot tub. We just got the room with the Jacuzzi tub and that was a nice substitute.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Michelle at the reception was super nice and helpful with everything. Hotel is in good walking distance to restaurants etc Room was spacious although ab bit loud (but I guess that was because of the super loud guests next door
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Service and help from staff was really good. Facilities are really nice with plenty of space to move around. Location is decent, although you're in front of a 4X4 road.
Cons: Breakfast is only "ok".
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The peace and quiet was great. The garden was beautiful and the room was very spacious.
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: The room was large and clean. The property was beautiful. the staff was nice. The breakfast was okay. the best part of breakfast was the tropical fruit marmalade. The location was great! I highly suggest trying the Soda across the street (Soda Bonanza). The passion fruit cream sauce chicken is sooooo good.
Cons: I didn't pay attention to the description about it not having AC. Which is not their fault. I was just putting a note in here for others to see. A fan was provided upon request. The choices for breakfast was strange .....scrambles eggs, lunch meat ham, bread, fruit and sliced weird white cheese.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Interesting building turned into a hostel. The host is very friendly and it’s a clean place. The room costs the same price as a breakfast for two, which is decent for a of nite’s stay.
Cons: As far as I can see, there is only 1 shower and 1 toilet for 8 rooms. If you’re an early sleeper, the noise from the common areas may be disturbing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It is a cool decorated hostels. They serve really good breakfast. The people are friendly, they arranged transportation for us. The room had a fan.
Cons: The sanitairy was basic: 1 room with shower and 1 room with toilet+sink.
7.5 Good
Pros: The breakfast was really good - i could choose between eggs or pancakes
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The space is really nice with a lot of common spaces to relax and the staff were great and extremely helpful. Loved the pets too!
Cons: It was a bit of an uphill/ downhill walk to town - but most of the activities do hotel pick up so it’s not that bad. The wind sometimes was quite strong and doors would rattle. There was no hanging space in our room. All in all the positives far outweighed the negatives.
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice spaces to relax. Tasty breakfast. They gave us a lot of information about tours around the area. The place was very clean. Friendly owner.
Cons: Very noisy room, we could actually look through an opening in our wall into the neighbours room, so noise level is like on a dorm. Bring earplugs. Don't know if that's the case in all the rooms.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Love the recycled decor and all the tour advise/info.
Cons: The walls are very thin between rooms so you can hear even the whispers in your neighbor.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Facilities were nice and the stuff was quite helpful in finding some place to eat close by.
Cons: When it rained a lot one afternoon it even rained inside and due to the humidity all our clothes were wet.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very stylish, eco-hostel with a very nice host who was always available and helpful with e.g. organising a night tour and a taxi to the bus station. We had once breakfast there - the pancakes were super nice! The kitchen is very well equipped and the shared areas are spacious and cosy which is perfect if you want to spent some relaxing hours between the many activities offered in Monteverde.

Cons: The road to the property is super rocky and the lights in the room are quite dim. Otherwise there is nothing not to like.
6.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful garden. Clean and comfortable room despite the humidity.
Cons: No insolation btw cabins, awaken everyday at 6am by our neighbours. Very basic breakfast. Front desk staff very cold and not offering any help or suggestion for the region.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the bar and the hummingbird feeders was lovely.
Cons: The dinner menu was limited and the main area a little bit soulless. There is a zip line travelling over the property that can disturb the peaceful setting.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. Amazing location right up in the Cloud Forest. Trails onsite with fantastic wildlife. Hummingbirds to watch on the terrace. The grounds/gardens are beautifully kept. Good tours available locally. We had a car which is very helpful as the location is out of the main town. Zip lining and night tours available onsite.
Cons: The room was quite dark and dated.

9.1 Excellent
Pros: Food, area, amenities were great.
Cons: Shower head was crazy, shower did not drain, no tv in room. Gustav was a great waiter and day front desk was wonderful. Night front desk and night waitress lacked personality.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice, remote private retreat. Has hiking trails on property that are well marked. Breakfast is included and was very good. WiFi was one of the best we had. Showers hot with decent pressure.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay here! The property is beautiful - lush wildlife with a lot of activity from birds and small animals. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We told them it was our honeymoon and were greeted with a bottle of wine and flower petals in our room :) We took advantage of the night hike and canopy tour which is right on the property - definitely book this while you're here! Breakfast is included and very fresh and delicious, they also have a happy hour with very reasonable prices. It rained a lot during our stay but our room was clean, dry, comfortable, perfect temperature (there is no AC but you really don't need it!),
Cons: Comfort of the beds could be improved - I could feel the springs through our mattress. Location is a bit of a hike from town and up a steep hill - luckily we didn't have our own car and taxi to town is only $5
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was lovely and the property was beautiful, we had a car which was nice for seeing the area and around town. Had trouble with a tire and the staff fixed it for us! The use of the hotel’s umbrellas was also great. I booked this place for the trails they have on their property and it did not disappoint!
Cons: Breakfast was awesome but we weren’t as happy with the restaurant for other meals, ended up going to town for dinner and lunch.
