Kimpton Cardinal Hotel - Winston-Salem - Bedroom
4
9.0 Excellent (610 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Once the architectural muse for the Empire State Building, the historic R.J. Reynolds building is now home to The Kimpton Cardinal Hotel. We’ve enjoyed mixing Southern manners and modern flair, with a little mischief thrown in. Relax each afternoon over sweet tea and cheese straws, and evenings during our wine hour, in a lobby that feels like a lavish Carolina living room. Step outside to explore downtown Winston-Salem and her thriving art, music and foodie scene.
6.2 Good
Pros: Great location, fun vibe & activities, grand rooms, and almost all the staff members were extremely friendly and courteous.
Cons: I really was in shocked with how dirty this hotel is. When you walk in you expect nothing but an amazing experience. I first noticed the level of uncleanliness when we checked into our room. Walking into the room you were amazed by how grand and beautiful it was designed and put together. We walked over to the desk and night stands and there was layer of dust all over it. The baseboards were the same way. I thought maybe this room had not been used in a while. Then we went down to the lobby where there is a puzzle on the coffee table with the couches. It was full of crumbs and dirt. If the hotel had been slightly busy this would make sense but it wasn't nor did it appear to be fresh crumbs and grease marks. The next morning we had breakfast and the restaurant in the lobby. The hostess was very friendly, our waitress wasn't at first but she came around. There appears to be huge coffee spatters all over the wall on the left hand side of the restaurant. It's extremely noticeable and behind the booths that look directly at the kitchen again layers of dust. So sad to see an amazing hotel look this dirty. Just makes you wonder what else may be going on
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Exactly the experience you expect. Great staff, friendly to pets, and a beautiful space. Their basement game room was awesome for kids and adults! Bowling, basketball, pool, ping-pong, shuffleboard and more!

Pros: Good food close to the hotel and easy to find, very friendly staff and the pool and the hot tub were very clean and great for the kids some woman at the front desk was being very rude and obnoxious and should have been embarrassed to be treating the staff the way she was…but they were calm and kept smiling and even offered her and her family something from the snack bar while she waited-

4.5 Okay
Cons: The lobby, hallway and elevator had visible debris and were never cleaned during our 3-day stay. There was an obscenity scratched into one of the elevator walls and the lobby staff was not visible at the desk -- the overall feeling was one of neglect and lack of service for guests.
3.1 Mediocre
Cons: Had to be moved twice because the heat did not work in the first two rooms we were assigned to.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Hall ways were very hot also the atmosphere in the room was damp. The bathrooms had no fan.
4.8 Okay
Pros: Bed was comfortable, room was clean, other than smoke smell.
Cons: The smell of smoke was awful- all my clothes stunk. Worst "breakfast" I've ever seen- cereal and danishes, not even worth coming down for. Hotel was going through construction renovations, hopefully to remove the smoke smell bc it was overwhelming.

5.4 Okay
Pros: Staff was friendly but not particularly helpful
Cons: Room was not what I expected. A little small. No trash can and request for one (along with extra towels) went unheeded. Overall clean, but I could have gotten equivalent room elsewhere for 2/3 cost
6.0 Good
Pros: The location was great. The staff was nice.
Cons: The rooms were dirty especially the bathroom. The rooms need to be updated.
3.4 Mediocre
Pros: Bed was comfortable.
Cons: The overall appearance of the hotel was that it had been a nice big name chain hotel at one time but it was now privately owned and minimal money had been put towards upkeeping it. The sink backed up after leaving the water on for a couple minutes and there was black residue left in the sink after it finally drained.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Place was not only under VERY heavy construction, but the two staff I dealt with, Anthony and Patricia, were undoubtedly the rudest people I've ever encountered at a property anywhere, in all my travels. I am honestly shocked this place is still in business, and judging from the lack of people there on a Friday night, they probably won't be for long. I'd suggest to stay far away from this place.
6.8 Good
Pros: Awesome price, comfortable beds. Great location!
Cons: Some staff were unprofessional. Small tv, tight bathroom w/o a fan in it. Fridge also in a bad spot.
5.1 Okay
Pros: The room was newly renovated and modern.
Cons: The room was not properly cleaned, there were beer cans in the trash and no toiletries. The front desk employees were nice but not very knowledgeable.

3.1 Mediocre
Cons: Noise, broken elevator, leaking tub
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to UNSCA where I was dropping off my son was good. You could walk to a couple of restaurants. Breakfast hours were awesome, was able to grab a cup of coffee early before running an errand, then came back and had a full meal and the food didn't taste like it had been out forever. Room was a good size.
Cons: Pool could be a little larger relative to size of hotel. Awkward parking lot.
3.4 Mediocre
Pros: Staff was able to refund me my money when I chose to leave.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: I like the location to the Hanes Mall - plenty of shops, restaurants, and things to do...
Cons: I did not like the fact that the sink area was in the room while the toliet and tube/shower were behind a door. The room was very tight. And, the door to the room allowed light from the hall way through the side and the bottom.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel good value Breakfast was good Room was clean
Cons: When checking in , we had called ahead to let them know we would be getting in really late . When we got there the desk clerk said because we were there so late that we only had a room for that night not the 3 nights that were ALREADY PAID FOR IN FULL when I asked why and told him we had called ahead to let them know , instead of saying let me call someone and see what we can do , he just kept pointing to the property managers name on the wall saying that it was the managers policy , not his(the clerk) . He said that multiple times . After finally making a phone call he said he would leave a note for the day manager and they would take care of it .

Pros: Clean staff was good
Cons: Bathroom tub didn't drain water properly
