Rooms were nice and clean. I was on club level and the ice machine and people walking around were very loud. Did not feel private. Guy at the desk was very non customer service oriented. As I found with most people at that desk. Valet guy was very nice. Pay decent money you expect a little more courtesy. I do not expect to stay there again.
Good location downtown, nice staff. Pool was under construction for renovations, and we had really been eagerly awaiting this part of the trip with two little kids. No continental breakfast - only their restaurant with overpriced and far underperforming food.
Very clean, nice room, great location Fire alarm went off, girls soccer team staying near us was very loud and rude, yelling in hallway past quiet hours, the door to our room did not close all the way.
The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to every thing. Room was beautiful and clean. The shower felt so good after a long day on the beach in the sun. The beds were comfy but the pillows could be a little harder. The staff was amazing...always pleasant. The free breakfast was far more than we expected and was a great way of starting the day. Love the valet parking. ...very convenient. We will definitely be back next time we are in town. Kathleen Kelley September 2015 Pillows, not that I hated them...just that they need to be alittle harder....not enough neck support.
Directions and signage are not easily understood or noticed
The Port Inn in Portsmouth, NH is a well kept, clean place to stay. Convenient to the highway and to downtown Portsmouth with a very welcoming and friendly staff.
The manager Steven went well above and beyond the service of any other hotel experience I've had and I travel quite frequently for work. I will certainly be back again. The breakfast is a great bonus!
Great staff, great room accommodations, good location with easy access to major highways, downtown, and beach. We would stay here again on our next trip to Portsmouth. A great value for the price and a knowledgeable staff. Nothing.
We really liked the hotel. It was a convenient location, right off 95 on our way home from Maine. Clean, comfortable, and the staff was very friendly. There was only ONE thing that bothered me and had we stayed more than one night would have driven me absolutely crazy: the floor above us. Our room was located on the bottem level of the hotel, room 125. The room directly above us has the creakiest floors which left me wide awake listening to the people above getting ready in the morning. Not a problem if they got up later or I was a deep sleeper, but the floor boards started their symphony at 5:30 am, far too early for my vacation.
Low Rates Awesome Friendly Service Comfortable Room
Close to everything. Including the best liquor store in NH across the street. Air was nice and cold. Coffee was good too in the am. Wish the bed was was a queen.
Front desk staff very helpful with local info. Breakfast is fairly basic
Staff was very attentive and friendly. Debris on floor. Mold on shower curtain. No drain plug for tub. Horrible pillows and breakfast
was not as clean as it could have been
We were staying in Portsmouth overnight with some friends. Great value for the price. Clean rooms & bathroom, comgortable bed. A little dated, but again, a good value for the money.
Beds were comfy
It was very clean. Coffee ran out when I came downstairs.
The people next door had the TV on loud all night - called front desk - they said they called the room but couldn't get hold of anyone. Moved us at 2:30 AM to another room - but next to air conditioning noise - then to another room where the traffic kept us awake all night. We were travelling from Halifax, NS to PA - driving all day and was to drive all day the next day - wasn't impressed with not getting any sleep. We usually stayed here with no complaints - too bad this happened at this time. Will look for another place next time.
friendly staff comfortable bed difficulty regulating room temperature lack of warm blanket paltry selection of food items available for continental breakfast
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I love Robbin! He's nice, helpful and courteous. I always look forward to seeing him at the desk. Rooms are very clean, but could use some minor maintenance. My lamp shade was missing the nut that held the shade on, so it was tilted, second light in bathroom didn't work correctly, , minor things that are not always noticed.
Clean night clerk was very helpful in suggesting places to eat
I really enjoyed the food and cocktails while watching football. There was a server by the name Anca who took great care of me. The rooms where very clean and it's walking distance to everything. Parking stinks
Very clean and a great location Valet parking was the only option
Very clean and modern, friendly staff and accessable to dowtntown
Overall nice place No bath tub!
Unable to stay here because they had no confirmed reservation
Temporarily parked by entrance (20 minutes) while we got our room and unpacked. Valets were pleasant and professional. Hotel location was excellent and Portsmouth is very walkable. At this price, we expected a complimentary breakfast. Expensive valet only parking. We found our own parking nearby for free.
I thought our room smelled and felt a bit musty.
I would like to recognize Dimple Patel and Natalia for their exceptional service. Each encounter was so pleasant, welcoming and engaging. I travel often for work and never have I encountered such exceptional service on a consistent basis. Dimple and Natalia are what made my stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Portsmouth Downtown enjoyable, not the hotel amenities nor the look of the hotel.
Loved being close to everything, but by far the staff at the desk, valet, and housekeeping was above and beyond super nice... I just wished I could have turned the heat down more than to 65, without turning it off. it was very hot in the room..
Location was fantastic....right in the heart of Portsmouth. Nothing
Breakfast staff had difficulty keeping up with demand. Items ran out throughout our brief visit. They made every effort when it was brought to their attention, but we had to bring things to their attention quite a bit. (The coffee is out. The fruit has run out. The waffle mix is empty. There is no syrup. The decaf is out. There is still no fruit. There are no bowls. The regular coffee is out again…)
I enjoyed the stay, plan to come back.
It was a very quiet location but very close to downtown. The rooms were clean and large. The breakfast was very good. The breakfast area was too small for the amount of people there at the time. The one woman cleaning the area could not keep up with getting the tables clean and restocking the food.
Quiet setting among the trees. Free internet. Nice hot breakfast, at least on Sunday. The towels in the pool area were tiny and as rough as 60 grit sandpaper. The towels in the room were a little softer (200 grit) but still small. Not something you can change now, but design would be better if bathroom were accessible without having to go through the bedroom.
Hotel staff was great - very helpful. The room was great for our family.
The room was spacious and clean and the staff was very friendly. Good solid value. Nothing to really complain about.
the vending machine hot tub/jacuzzi out of order
My family enjoyed the pool and hot tub, the rooms were good and it was literally right off the highway. Very close to Maine. Free breakfast was only to 9 am.
very nice staff.good location.
Kindness friendines of breakfast staff. Very hard worker. In room clean Pool and hot tub have been broken for months!!!! Check-in staff staff stated it is on Web site but not listed. Also rug being replaced but not cleaned after day''s work.
Easy access to highway Couldn't sleep because of truck noise on 95.
The carpet and some of the furniture were wet as a result of a plumbing problem, yet they still put guests in the room. It smelled moldy. Pool and hot tub were closed due to the same issues. The steak was doing their best and stayed pleasant but the accommodations were decidedly substandard.
I was under the impression when reading online that we would be within walking distance to things but there was only a liquor store that was within walking distance. We were also put in a room that was near stairs which creaked loudly & were awaken multiple times because of this. Our room was clean but had a bad smell & there was mold on shower curtain
Staff hardly spoke English. The hotel smells like mold
Location Pool was not operating.Advertised a working pool and hot tub.
Right off the highway, easy to find. Mice poop in the drawers. The room had a mildew/mold smell too.
clean and the location to downtown the hot tub was broken
No frills place to lay your head. For us, it was a halfway point to a Maine vacation week. Front desk clerk was accomodating, letting us borrow his personal information phone charger for a little bit when we'd mentioned we'd left ours at home. Pool was down and drained, which bummed my kids out because they were looking forward to a swim when we pulled into town. Our basement room felt musty.
Great location within walking distance! We came as a staycation to go out with friends we haven't seen in a long time! We had three different interactions with the staff, and all three were very disappointing. We had drinks with friends (who were also hotel guests) and asked for extra glasses, which came an hour later, and the staff member who dropped them off just had a terrible attitude. It was obvious he was unhappy about it. Came back from dinner and drinks to a very rude third shift member who told us we had a noise complaint and grilled us about who was staying in the room. We hadn't been in the room since 7pm, so I don't know how that was even possible. Then we were given a late checkout till 12:30pm and were getting ready when a very rude house keeper can to the door at 11am and told us we should have left already. We explained and she scowled and stormed off! Needless to say we will not be back.
The breakfast was great, staff was very nice, the room size was just right for us. Great location to downtown and parking garage since parking is off site. Will definitely choose this hotel again. Nothing
The place is so cute. The bathroom was really well-done. It was nice having a little porch to sit on and the rug on the porch was nice and soft. The beds were okay. I prefer feather pillows. The TV didn't work very well, the signal seemed to be really weak. The decor of the room was cute in some places but could have been a lot better in other areas. There was a lot of empty white space where there was microwave, that made you feel like you were somewhere very inexpensive. The breakfast was pretty bad - hard boiled eggs that were really hard to peel and plain white english muffins. There was some pound cake that they ran out of and the muffin I had was not very good. Coffee was pretty bad too.
Recently remodeled very clean , refrig. and microwave in room, very large new flat screen TV , small breakfast table and 2 chairs Only a fitted sheet and comforter on bed. not much room in bath to put toiletries. and no electrical outlet un bath
Clean, comfortable room. Adequate amenities, everything worked. Fantastic breakfast! Friendly, helpful staff. Wish we could have stayed longer!!
The place was very clean accommodating and for a great price! The shower was a bit small and there wasn't a fan to circulate the air conditioning around, but still was cool in the room.
We realy enjoyed our stay here. The staff is amazing and the room clean and confy. See you soon kittery inn and suites
Clean and convenient hotel to I-95 with a very pleasant staff . Very nice breakfast included . Chair in room needed reupholstered Tub very slow to drain.
Close to downtown Portsmouth Did not include breakfast
Friendly front desk. Clean and warm lobby, decorated nicely. The beds are uncomfortable and there was a party going down next door.... Started at 10pm loud music and ? Wrestling. Very loud, called downstairs but didn't help it continued. Thankfully the fan in the room drowned out the noise a bit.
The staff and food Room was not clean-trash under night stand, hair on Shower wall, large cob webs in corner of room. In dire need of upgrade-stained lampshade and carpets, furniture ripped and worn.
Friendly staff, nice facilities, great price!
Location is awesome and right downtown Nothing to not like
Very well done. Excellent appointments. Great in town location. Charming Breakfast was rather grim
The Portsmouth Hotel is wonderful. Excellent service. Pleasant and helpful staff. The room was beautiful.
The staff was excellent and very helpful.
Close to turnpike and stores. Not enough staff. I waited 7 minutes to check in. When I had to check out there was nobody at the desk at all, just a sign saying the clerk was away assisting a customer. I was going to be late to my meeting so I just left my room key and called later to check out over the phone. 4 floors, over 30 rooms per floor, and only ONE ELEVATOR. You will be waiting a long time to get on the elevator. only one ice machine, and it's on the first floor. No fridge in room. No microwave in room. Microwave is on first floor. If all you need is a bed to sleep in, then this would be fine. But if all you needed was a bed to sleep in, you wouldn't pay as much as they charge for a room. Over-priced for what you get.
Clean, quiet odor of smoke (there was no non-smoker room available )
I tried two room and they were both very dirty, and decided to leave. The front deal staff was very nice about it. Wouldn't reccemond anyone stay here
The location was good When we got to the hotel they had one floor with no A/C and only had smoking rooms left otherwise. We are both allergic to cigarette smoke and had a hot, humid, miserable night.
The terrible staff
It is a good place where sleeping if you're driving to another city and you have to stop for the night
respectful staff. when we arrived we could tell the hotel was not top notch. While checking in I was informed that they had no rooms left with an ac in them or a fan. I was offered a 20% discount upon check though i was not pleased as i had made the reservation well ahead of time. We got our things and headed to our room, when we got in we checked things out to find that there was what appeared to be feces on the sheet of one of the beds. Between not having ac and the feces it was the last straw for my fiance. We called around to fine another hotel and i asked to be creditied back. The receptionist had no issue with giving my money back and was respectful about it. We were able to book a hotel about the same distance from hapton where we would be going for the next couple days for $15 more a night in a MUCH nicer hotel in andover ma area.
Clean, Convenient. Wished there was shampoo and conditioner.
Inexpensive. Good location near Portsmouth and NH beaches. Water was hot and good water pressure in shower. Lobby smelled bad. Internet access cost extra. TV had HBO, but no ESPN, CNN, Fox News, etc. Only provided 2 small towels. Mattresses soft & uncomfortable. Room wasn't made up until 5:00pm
The hotel was in a good location - just a few minutes off of the highway. The hotel pictures online make it seem like this is an indoor hotel, which I value for safety, traveling as a single female. While part of the hotel was indoor, there were at least two building that were outdoor like a motel. My room was also a nonsmoking room but it smelled like someone had just been smoking in it. When I called the desk over 5 times to switch rooms I could not get a hold of anyone.
It was clean, friendly staff, free hot and cold breakfast, 10 minutes away from downtown Portsmouth, free parking, indoor pool, exercise facility, minutes away from I-95, a food market around the corner if you forgot anything, about 12 minutes to Kittery ME. It was a good hotel.
It was close to downtown Portsmouth. The young woman checking me in didn't find my reservation for a long while... The room I was offered smelled of smoke, I complained to the manager and was promised a smoke free room for the next night. I was also promised that I didn't have to pay for the first night, which was correct. The next day I removed all my belongings before leaving the hotel, when I came back in the evening to receive my smoke free room, I was told that the hotel was full! The manager was away - and the man handling our matter could not promise another free night in the same room that smelled of smoke, where I stayed the previous night - although the plaque on the desk promised, "If you're not fully satisfied, your stay is on us". We decided to leave the hotel!!
Loved the swimming pool, hot tub, soft pillows, shower!! If they had more tag one shuttle it would've been perfect!
Pool and hot tub. I wish there were more selections on room service menu. Also a couple of lights in room were broken and clock was wrong time.
When the shuttle was on its regular schedule & not ferrying wedding guests who had missed their ride -- it was a nice service to downtown. Room smelled like cats, AC was musty & dank. Outrageous price for a room with absolutely no amenities. Are q-tips really too much to ask?
The staff and service were both excellent. The free shuttle to downtown Portsmouth makes it a great location.
The bed was comfortable. A motel on the decline. Mold on the walls of the bathroom. The sink and the tub failed to drain. Funky smell throughout the motel.
Guest laundry dryers not functioning. Air conditioning in rooms only. An older motel that is not worth the money.
Room was relatively clean. The hallways all smelled (some like cigarette smoke). Hasn't been updated. Witnessed front desk staff being rude to other hotel customer. No A/C in dining area. Overall not very welcoming and a poor value. We stayed at other hotels in this area and found this to be the worst this far. We will probably never return.
Very tastefully decorated. Beds are comfortable - suites are nicely layed out. Very clean and comfy. Not actually in downtown Portsmouth. You cannot walk around town from this hotel. I wasnt wanting to rent a car, so it was inconvenient. On the other hand, it was a nice quiet spot and not a bad drive to town.

This hotel was wonderful. The rooms were large, the beds were comfortable and the staff was very helpful. The breakfast was expansive and delicious and there was a free hotel shuttle to downtown. I would definitely go back.

Nice breakfast and it was clean. When making the reservation I chose the 1 room option but the room we got was a studio. It was a nice room but not what I had selected. I didn't want to complain so didn't ask for another room.
The hotel and location were great. Rooms were clean, spacious and overall pleasant. First room we got was surrounded by barking dogs. They should keep pet owners together and keep others separate. We did not appreciate having to move rooms. The TVs have no HDMI input. If you hope this hotel needs a tech update badly.
Hotel was clean and quiet. Pool and free breakfast - Noice! Our room smelled like a urinal cake when you first stepped in, but you got used to it after 2 minutes.
It is right next door to Red Hook brewery! Breakfast is fantastic! Not close to downtown Portsmouth.
The staff was wonderfully helpful and friendly. Their shuttle service was top notch! They took us everywhere we needed to go in the area in a timely fashion.
There was a good functional kitchenette and water pressure and temperature in the shower was very good. Good available breakfasts. Location was very good. Staff was friendly. WIFI connection worked well. TV placement mid-room on a swivel was good. HVAC ducts and vents needed cleaning, they produced a musty smell and looked dirty. Ventilation overall did not seem to be effective. Bed was very hard. Room was quite worn and in need of refreshing. I I told management who said they'd take action.
The decor, & furniture. The buffet breakfast was also very good. A lot of variety, and plenty of everything for everyone's taste! N/A
The breakfast was very good and the room was excellent. Exactly what I've come to expect from a Residence Inn. The hotel was undergoing renovations when we stayed, but the hotel staff did their best to minimized any issues.
Facility was clean and convenient to the highway. An older facility. Expensive for the lack of extras and very limited breakfast. Numbering of the rooms very confusing - 106 was on the 2nd floor. Hair dryer did not work. Will not stay here again.
it was a quick overnight between legs of a longer trip.
There was a refrigerator, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer and coffee pot (without a convenient outlet) and a reliable wake up call. Very close to outlet mall. The alarm clock did not work. Parts of the floor were spongy. There was a dirty towel in the bathroom and very little counter space with no stopper in the sink, just an open 3/4 inch open hole. The only sports channels were ESPNU and NESN. This is a very old motel that is in need of major upgrades to justify the cost. Will never stay here again.
the hotel is dirty and in an unsfafe area the "front desk" is dimly lit and the person unhelpful the rooms are dirty, not updated and made me feel like it should be rented by the hour I checked in , saw the room and the area and checked out I was declined a refund and now my credit card company is disputing the charge I was traveling on business and it was 9pm and I had to find another room in a very full tourist town
The place was clean. The building is in rough shape. There were spots in our room where the floor was very weak, it sank when you walked on it. some of the outside of the building was falling off. We will not go back. But looks like they are trying to fix it up.
Breakfast was ok. Periodically, the internet would go out while on online. No plug-in outlet for laptop at or near the desk. I had to charge laptop battery away from the desk. No business center.
