Resort fee is not worth it. Value is very low. This Embassy Suites doesn't deserve to be called an Embassy Suites. Other than the room and check-in desk staff and restaurant staff, everything else like the breakfast and fees and such were not worthwhile. The place just seems really badly managed, and tries to give less (less in quantity but also less in quality, e.g., of food and drinks) and charge more for everything (hotel night costs and the truly awful breakfast experience and food quality, which felt like mass-produced/mass-purchased cheap stuff). The staff can't be blamed in this sense, and in fact I think they work with what they can in a dysfunctional and overpriced hotel.
The food options were pretty over-priced, even for Manhattan, but the addition of a $30/night credit for any restaurant or pantry item offset that pretty well. The only other thing that was a little surprising was the bathroom faucet - it was one of those ones where the water flows down a flat horizontal chute rather than coming out a vertical screen, and the chute had some green algae growing on it, meaning I couldn't use it for brushing teeth, drinking, etc. Otherwise, check-in and check-out was fast, the staff responded quickly to the one or two issues I had, and the room was in overall great shape.
Pros. I enjoyed the room view floor 32 the window side I could see the Empire State building 👌🏼 complimentary breakfast included as described in their web.
Cons. It wasn’t very clean. It was filthy either. But there were dust piles in the corners, as if someone just swept the floors and left it there. The bathroom had brown droplets dried on the walls that were very easily wiped off. The mattress sits on a wooden platform, and the platform was covered with dust, hair, and crumbs from different breads and cookies that people had eaten over the preceding days (or weeks). I highly doubt it’s an issue with individual housekeepers; they’re probably just understaffed and rushing the ones they do have. But as other reviewers have pointed out, cleanliness clearly is not a priority at this property.
Cons. The lobby assistant, Wolfgang was amazing. The staff serving breakfast were conscientious and welcoming. Great staff.
Pros. Beds very comfortable; shower heats up nicely and has good pressure; midtown location convenient to Broadway and elsewhere via Subway.
Cons. Breakfast and Happy Hour almost unapproachable due to overcrowding of the venue and poorly designed elevators. Took 15-20 minutes to get an elevator in and out of the 4th-floor breakfast area every single time.
