10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hole experience
Cons: None
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Good breakfast, the lady who cooked was an excellent cook.
Cons: Our room was advertised as having a garden view, this was not the case, we had a car park veiw. Very small double room with only one bedside table but was informed by the owner that this apparently meets the AA four star standard. Shower room clean but the shower itself was tired and in need of maintenance, descaling is required to meet the current legislation for legionella control, as is the hot and cold temperatures. There were no indication on the loose shower valve as to which way was hot and which way was cold so could potentially be a health risk. No shower nozzle adjustment was available possibly through heavy scaling, I believe this was a vertically installed head on a 15 mm down pipe with a ball and socket swivel joint that did not swivel! As the valve adjustment failed to work efficiently this made it difficult to get out of the water spray in the small shower cubicle without exiting in a panic situation. Was informed by the owner that this will be looked at.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: 4 pairs of couples for a Sunday Lunch and evening stay Suites very comfortable and well equipped Food of very good quality and serving staff very helpful and accommodated dietary requirements very competently In particular Young sommelier Maxim was excellent and very informative and attentive with all our party - Spa and pool facilities very good and certainly we will return.
Cons: Generally very pleasant staff but bar / restaurant area very young and somewhat lacking in good management direction - hot drinks in particular were very slow and not very attentive and when challenged about the speed the response was "did I want to have rushed service" !! At morning breakfast was excellent but 3 of the 8 requested porridge instead of cold cereals and cooked breakfast - nonsensically they were planning to serve all at the same time so cooked breakfast would be cold - and again slow in bringing additional coffee

7.0 Good
Pros: The room was spacious and bed extremely comfortable! Reception staff were fab
Cons: The food was not good - we tried the breakfast as well as room service meals and were disappointed; especially considering the price...
7.9 Good
Pros: The bed was extremely comfy and the shower was hot and powerful.
Cons: We ate in the clubhouse restaurant and I was disappointed. The food presentation resembled nothing like the images on their website and my meal was hugely disappointing. The steak was not rare, as I ordered, and was tasteless. The potatoes had been described as dauphinoise and it was not, it was simply roasted/fried potatoes with some onion dumped on top and the field mushroom had large lumps of un-melted cheese that looked and tasted revolting!

Pros: Location to Newbury for work is good.
Cons: I've stayed here a few times now and whilst it's both convenient and well priced I do think some areas could be cleaner such as cobwebs removed from window frames and dust around skirting boards. The lack of anywhere to hang my shirt for work the next day is annoying too.

Surprised to see bed and breakfast being advertised in the bar for only £65.00. Evening meal was poor, plate full of mushy chips with a huge scoop of peas and an over battered fish on top. Breakfast bacon was over cooked and the rest was going cold.

Pros: Clean and great food
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location but eith an away from it all feel. Lovely setting
Cons: Unfortunately the pool and Jacuzzi were closed for some time on our second day. When the pool reopened it was rather cool both in and around the pool. So not as comfortable or relaxing as previous day. Th4 Jacuzzi rrmsines out of use sadly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Peace and quiet even though the hotel was very busy. Hotel staff ensured everyone felt important with pleasant and excellent service.
Cons: Spa staff ask clients adding bill to their room to sign the bill for payment before treatment. No problem with this except that the bill includes a space for the client to add a ‘gratuity’. I feel this is not acceptable as how do you know whether you want to give a gratuity and how much if you do before you have had the treatment? They advise you don’t have to add a gratuity, but surely it could wait until after the treatment!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, and very helpful staff, arrived early but were able to get rooms no problem

9.0 Excellent
Pros: I have never been to Newbury before and it was just an overnight stay but the location was really good , and we were overlooking the square , we also had breakfast in the Hatchet Inn before we left so all was good.
Cons: Only thing that bothered me was the noise from the Bathroom extractor fan, My husband kept the light on in the Bathroom so I could see if I got out of bed during the night but that was our choice , otherwise no problems , it was a little chilly the next morning so I put the heating on only for a few minutes and the room soon warmed up.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everyone on staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Cons: The only downfall was navigating a lengthy stairs (with suitcases) to access our room. Once inside our room, everything was very nice.

Rookwood Farmhouse - Newbury - Building
12
8.6 Excellent (112 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Newbury, Rookwood Farmhouse is within a 15-minute drive of Newbury Racecourse and Highclere Castle. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an excellent B&B. It was perfect for what was just a one-night stopover, exactly half-way between home and final destination, close to A34 and M4, but no road noise; in fact it was very peaceful at night. I slept very well. The hosts were very welcoming but unobtrusive, and breakfast was delicious. I really enjoyed the company of the other guests - a cheerful family of four adults from Canada - at the large shared breakfast table. The building was an old farm house, extensively modernised. It has a very large, interesting and well-kept garden, also a heated outdoor swimming pool (although I didn't try it - early September/not warm enough, and I had to be on my way). All in all, highly recommended!
Cons: Nothing could have been better. It was fab!
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice gardens, room was nicely appointed in typical English style, friendly dogs.
Cons: Room was not clean, dogs walk around in kitchen, owners a bit awkward. Not worth the price.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location was very convenient as only a short drive to the wedding I was attending, grounds of B & B were lovely, although near to a main road I couldn't hear the traffic. The breakfast was really nice.
Cons: Shower bracket didn't work properly and the shower water was very forceful and there didn't appear to be anyway to reduce the flow. Otherwise the accommodation was good.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location was good, easy access to M4. Bed was large and comfy, but would have been much better without the 'material' canopy. Clean sheets. Beautiful garden.
Cons: Parking was limited and I had to squeeze my car into the only place, in the small car park. Room was adequate with old blue bath towels, bed linen was clean, but stained cushions were placed on top of the bed and the settee/cushions were also stained. As there were no fans in the room and it was extremely hot, we had to keep the windows open to keep the room cool, therefore we could hear traffic in the distance and had an influx of bugs. Dangerous kettle situation in room, as no outlet other than on the floor was available. Breakfast was inedible. Mushrooms were swimming in grease and the 'scrambled' egg was brown in colour and solid. The amount of baked beans was laughable as they could be counted. I wasn't able to drink the tea as not only was the teapot chipped, but a brown residue appeared, floating on the top. I managed to eat the cheap, extra thin toast! Limited cereal choice of three. The only menu for three groups of people was extremely dirty and there were crumps on the tablecloth even though we were the first at breakfast. Only one large table in the breakfast room which had stained walls. Hosts wearing stained clothing.
5.8 Okay
Cons: Hmmm - wasn’t great. Just a old room in someone’s house. Had to eat around a table with the owners and other people staying there which I found awkward. Plus small talk at 7am isn’t really my thing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful location with a big garden. Clean, comfortable, tasty, although not everything was perfect, but that belonged to the charm of the place. Communal breakfast. Very, very kind owners. Very large and clean bed.
Cons: Bathroom not en-suite, but did not matter, as we had almost the whole part of the floor for us. No restaurant at the site, but great pubs nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: location was perfect for visiting the battle proms, which will be our main consideration for a return visit next year! very comfortable 'yellow' room, highly recommended.
Cons: would loved to have taken advantage of the swimming pool, but didnt seem to be available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful best stay ever perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Gardens were extremely beautiful and the pool a bonus

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfectly comfortable for a quick overnight stay, and good value. Breakfast was very good as well.
Cons: Nothing
7.1 Good
Pros: The location is very attractive and we had a lake view which was very pretty.
Cons: The cooked breakfast was served immediately after we ordered, so no time to enjoy the fruit salad. The cooked part was lukewarm at best and had certainly not been cooked to order.
7.1 Good
Pros: Locatie en rust
Cons: No view Bad shower
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room and bed were both huge and the view was beautiful, despite the rain. The modern bathroom was spotless with underfloor heating and lovely fixtures. The bar did great, reasonably priced food. Breakfast was decent and good value for money. It's no distance from Newbury town centre either. The price we paid was very good value for money. Room has an iron, bathrobes, slippers, etc - so very well equipped. Would definitely stay again.
Cons: Nothing major and certainly nothing that would stop us staying again. The decor in the room itself was a little traditional/dated for our tastes and the TV was a little small for the size of room, and a few years old, but that didn't really bother us. No fridge in room but you can dial reception to be brought ice. The room isn't overly soundproof and you can hear talking as people walk past, but that was very rare. We found the room overly warm and struggled to cool it down, but would have figured it out with time.
7.1 Good
Pros: Quiet, clean
Cons: I booked the Hotel through booking, and stayed one night for business travel in Donnington-Grove Hotel on 24th Sep and check out on 25th Sep morning. Now I met a problem while applying for reimbursement. Our Finance team said our company info as below is missed from Hotel Invoice. The background: When I check out, I told Hotel reception clearly that our company info MUST be added in the Invoice. However, reception staff – one Lady said she could not find my company’s info in your PC system. Then, I said you can write down the info manually and then sign your Hotel seal, however this lady still rejected my reasonable request.

Pros: location was perfect for visiting the battle proms, which will be our main consideration for a return visit next year! very comfortable 'yellow' room, highly recommended.
Cons: would loved to have taken advantage of the swimming pool, but didnt seem to be available.
