We were unable to rent the car due to the insurance requirements for a 12 passenger van. Should have been stated in the rental process that regular car insurance does not transfer to a 12 passenger van and only those with special insurance or license are allowed to rent this size car. Very disappointed to find this out 2 days before our event.10.0 Wonderful

the employee at the New Haven Tweed Airport (a woman whose name I didn't catch) was the only competent and pleasant person I worked with. she was great.Cons:
From the amherst, ma pickup where garrett asked me to wait for 30 minutes while the delivered the car late, to the long wait and confusion with no staff at the UMASS location, to the online support on sunday who (INCORRECTLY and adamantly) told me my rental was actually due 3 hours before the reservation said it was due, I had a horrible experience. the only good thing was the helpful employee at the tweed new haven desk. also it was incredibly overpriced and i was given a nissan rogue qhen i requested a rav4. i get that it said i could get something similar, but i dont think many people would say those two cars are really comparable on safety, quality, and gas mileage. i will do everything in my power never to rent from you guys again.7.2 Good

The office was closed when i got there. But the person came in from the College ave office ten min later. I don’t understand why the prices for UMASS are cheaper than College, which is 10 min away. What’s the point if that office is rarely open? The only vehicle available was a van, not a car, and it hadn’t been washed. Other than that, the service was great bc of the guy who checked me in.10.0 Wonderful

Car was brand new with only 6000 miles. Ready when we arrived. Simple and easy. Staff was very pleasant when discussing this with them. No issues so far.Cons:
Waiting for my gas charge to be refunded. We filled the car up before dropping it off. I called to make sure I was not being charged. I was charged and am now waiting to receive the gas credit. I am sure it will be taken care of.Hertz

I chose a 12:00 noon pickup time when scheduling my rental. When I showed up at noon the store was closed. This was a Saturday, and they wouldn't open again until Monday. This rental was for my family vacation that we had been looking forward to for months. After more than 2 hours on the phone with Hertz they proved to have very poor customer service skills or ability to assist me in any way. I ended up having to rent a car about 25 miles away from me for 3x the price from a different company. I do not recommend renting through Kayak (or any other travel site) - they don't communicate well with the actual company and the car rental company doesn't see any of the information you provided through Kayak. Find the deal on Kayak and then go directly to the car rental website and book directly through that company.8.0 Very good

The location of the business was convenient right off the highway. That was the only thing convenient about dealing with HERTZ.Cons:
The Manager at this location should take a course in Customer Service. When I arrived they told me I couldn't get the car I booked AND paid for because it was paid on a debit card. I advised him that this card could be used for credit OR debit but he simply said "NO". He had no solutions to offer and did not even try to help the situation. I told him I could put the deposit on an actual credit card as I only used the other card because it wasn't clear that I shouldn't at the time of booking. He said "NO". I said what can I do...he said..."I don't know what to tell you...you need to call this 1 800 number to see if they can help...I can't". Bottom line...after much stress and NO help we left to figure out another solution. Fortunately right down the road we found another rental company which actually new how to service their customers. We got a better car at a lower rate and were on our way about 20 minutes later. Never again will I consider doing business with HERTZ.Avis

The rental agents at the West Springfield office were great and provided incredible service.Cons:
There was nothing wrong. The car was somewhat dirty inside and there were scratches on the outside of the car.
