Pros: We loved staying in such a beautiful, historic property. The breakfast was fantastic, our stay was a delight. Thank you Ruth and Robert!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast were terrific, the hosts were very personable and kind, and the building is historic and interesting!
Cons: The temperature fluctuated from a little too cold to a little too warm, but when we asked, they turned the temperature down. It would’ve been nice to have a thermostat in the room that worked, but it really wasn’t a big deal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect! Close to town, walking distance to stores and restaurants. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. The owners were incredibly kind and welcoming, even offering to get up early to make me breakfast since I had to leave early for a conference.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were super nice and friendly, as were the other guests we met at breakfast. The building is beautiful and historic, the rooms comfy, the bathrooms nicely appointed and very clean! We loved the breakfasts. Location-wise, the Mount Holyoke College campus is only a few blocks away, and Northampton is about a 15-20 minute ride through beautiful contryside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: elaborate, clean, kind, very responsible, and very warmful breakfast, with interesting chat between the guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was immaculate and charmingly decorated. The owners are lovely people and very accommodating, right down to asking for any dietary restrictions or preferences for breakfast.
Cons: It’s not that I didn’t like it but, be prepared to chat with the other guests at the communal dining room table for breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are lovely and the hosts, Ruth and Richard, are lovelier. Fabulous breakfast, too!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!!
Cons: We couldn't stay longer :(
10.0 Excellent

9.1 Excellent (512 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Hatfield, Old Mill Inn is in the historical district, within a 15-minute drive of Calvin Theater and Smith College. Featured amenities include express check-in and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, quiet atmosphere, nice surrounding area
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff added to the high rating as well as the wonderful breakfast served. Excellent coffee (locally hand roasted), homemade blueberry jam on fresh croissants, fresh fruit, and a tasty roasted vegetable frittata was a great way to start a busy day for us!
2.8 Mediocre
Pros: nothing to like. owner was gracious in allowing us to cancel without charges.
Cons: Way overpriced. Musty smell in room. exposed pipes = loud noises when water runs through. dark bathroom = unfit for use dark. breakfast from 8:30 - 9:30 on Sunday.
6.3 Good
Pros: Very pretty, beautifully decorated and the location should have been good. But everything else was extremely off-putting. The brochure....that doesn't match the service reality.
Cons: We never saw the owners. Ever. Terribly loud party the night we were there and we heard every word. Hired help next morning had no clue of the area or suggestions. We were told no bread or unsweetened cereal because the hotel was vegetarian and gluten free ... but we were then given croissants and granola. Eh? A lovely espresso machine.... that was only used on Sundays if the owner was there. Not the experience we had expected especially for the high price. it's like the owners had checked out of the business. Very disappointing given other write-ups of this B&B. Worst B&B experience to date (and we have done many).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very unique -- in a very good way!! Ate some very interesting food!! (maybe could have served a larger portions......BUT overall, good food! The owners were great!! The facilities were VERY UNIQUE!! Really COOL LOCATION!!
Cons: Had some difficulty finding the place using car GPS system...happened twice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was convenient to local restaurants and family entertainment, i.e. movies, mall, mini golf, rec area, etc. The inn itself was well appointed and comfortable. Our room far exceeded our expectations in terms of size and comfort. The view and proximity of the falls from our room was perfect. The sound of the water made for a good night's sleep, followed by a delicious homemade breakfast the next morning. I would definitely recommend this inn to families and couples alike.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: charming old gristmill, now inn, with a long interesting history. staff was friendly, efficient, and made me feel welcome. breakfast and coffee really nice. ate indoors, then took coffee out to small patio that overlooked the waterfall. My northampton friends were unaware of the inn, but since they dropped me off and picked me up, they are well aware of this lovely accommodation. I am spreading the word and have already contemplated a return visit for two nights in the fall - to visit museums, etc.
Cons: the check-in was confusing. I walked inside and looked for a person and found no one. I went back to the table in the entrance where everything was available for a self check-in. I will know what to do next time. It could help if the check-in sign added the words "Self check-in". I called the number they gave for questions, but no one answered. And I did figure it out myself.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Great location that feels quiet and secluded, yet is an easy 15-minute drive to Northampton and other towns. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, and the inn and its surrounding grounds are peaceful and charming. We also liked seeing the chickens and goats from our window.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were cute. Beds very comfortable, The entire impression was novel. Happy that there was a coffee maker in the room. Very cool with the vintage Monopoly and Scrabble gamed. If you visit in a snow storm it's perfect.
Cons: The breakfast choices were dictated by the inn keeper. I would have like to have had warm eggs. Our group was offered french toast and when I declined the inn keeper seemed surprised. Other members in my party enjoyed the french toast but expressed that they would have liked to chose the topping or have it on the side. I think that we could have ordered omelettes or other eggs, but there was no obvious information for this. When I paid for the room I ended up paying for my parents room as well as ours. I was not asked when checking out. My mother found it difficult to get into the bed without a step stool.
6.7 Good
Pros: It was clean and main breakfast room was nice
Cons: Tiny room-hard to walk in there yet a big bathroom-mattress was like sleeping on a board!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed was comfy. Liked the suite.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was great; but, comfortable and clean!
Cons: Nothing, it was all good
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully clean and comfortable. Have stayed here before without any unpleasant staff encounters like what we encountered this morning.
Cons: The thankfully UNARMED BREAKFAST GUARD (don’t touch her waffle griddle unless you are an expert in its use) was completely OVER THE TOP with rudeness. She definitely does not belong in any position that deals directly with guests. The front desk gal was obviously terrified by this employees behavior and ignored the situation until I insisted she do something. The manager apparently arrives at 8:00 a.m. but did not make any effort to address the issue... eg: even though his attention was requested, he/she was “to busy” to speak with us. Anywho........ wow.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Room was well appointed. Clean and well maintained. Nice bed and pillows. Comfortable room.
Cons: Breakfast hours are over too early.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and my wife even received a compliment. The breakfast staff lady was very pleasant also. I was given an American flag pin by the manager and a nice handshake for being a veteran.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the clean spacious rooms, really expansive food/snack station, full breakfast in the morning, gym and the staff was really helpful (even despite me getting locked out of my room for a couple hours- they totally made it up to me)!
Cons: Nothing- it was terrific!
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Small bottles of water in the rooms.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: no down sides.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Front desk staff were excellent. Very clean and fresh looking hotel. Hot breakfast was superb. Would definitely stay at this hotel again if ever in the area.
Cons: Nothing-all excellent.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is fairly new so the rooms feel clean and new. I like that you can open the window, even though its only a little bit. Most similar hotels do not have windows that open at all and it makes the rooms very stuffy. The complimentary breakfast!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very helpful when it came to questions about the area. The breakfast staff was also very nice. The common spaces were clean and well maintained.
Cons: The check in process took a bit of time. The pool was small.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pleasant and efficient staff. Great room. Plenty of towels and amenities in the bathroom.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were staying overnight following my sister's funeral. The staff could not have been any more accommodating considering our need for staying at the hotel. I would especially like to thank Gail, who was working behind the Starbuck's/Bar area. We had a lovely conversation and she was so genuinely supportive and attentive as I continued to talk about our recent loss and how I was feeling. Thank you again, Gail, you were such a comfort.
6.0 Good
Pros: Nothing particularly special. It was fine.
Cons: It was further away from Northampton than I expected.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Terrific staff, professionally run hotel.
Cons: What can I say - it’s a corporate mid-range chain hotel. Cheap(ish) decor and seems expensive for this smaller town location, but apparently that’s the going rate.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beds are comfortable. Place is really clean and rooms are comfortable.
Cons: Service when we checked in was not good. We had a group of 8 rooms and they were not prepared to check us in and were confused about our reservation. They wanted to swipe my card 8 times instead of just one time for all the rooms.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and friendliness
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Not enough gluten free options.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean room with great breakfast.
Cons: A bit far from main route 91.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Really liked staff. Super friendly and helpful. My booking was lost for a bit and they honored the price and room requirements - and still remained kind in the process. Then, they went the extra mile to dig through emails and find it.
Cons: Nothing major. Breakfast is basic but sufficient, consistent with price/level of hotel. Room AC is a bit noisy, especially when it kicks on and off.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Pillows, sheets, bed
Cons: Location on route 9 is a bit awkward because you have to turn around/make a u-turn to enter when coming from Northampton/Hadley mall
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the comfortable pillows, mattresses and bedding. The size of the. room was acceptable with a chair and ottoman, floor lamp to the side of one of the beds. The bathroom was also a good size and very clean. The staff was courteous and helpful. The room wall decor and window treatment was very nice. I requested a room near the elevator due to a member of the family having a problem with a knee injury and they met our request. The breakfast had both hot and cold options. They also offered fruits.
Cons: Everything met our expectations.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location - proximity to everything
Cons: Very damp and musty. They had a dehumidifier running in the room and they probably should not have used the room for guests. Clean enough but smelly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable beds, very good Wi-Fi and super friendly staff. Great to have a gym and a pool. Also the washing room for guests is well equipped.
Cons: The breakfast is very "american". Many sweet things and no cheese or ham. We hated that there was only plastic cutlery and the plates and cups were out of cardboard. This means that everyone produced a lot of trash, very unecological. It was nice to have fresh fruit.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean
Cons: TERRIBLE street signage , couldn't find entrance and had to go around again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s was off a main road but kinda tucked in an it so it was easy to get to places but it was always nice and quite. The staff was great very polite and professional. Overall it was very nice clean and the bed was so comfortable my husband has not stop taking about it and the breakfast they had.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was quite satisfactory. They could have changed up the breakfast menu some.
Cons: That booking.com was extremely deceptive with the price of the room! I was not made aware that I was paying two different rates for all three days of my stay! So when checkout came due I had to pay a substantially higher rate than I was lead to believe I was paying, almost $200 MORE!!! You fooled me this time, it will NEVER happen again. I shall NOT use your services again!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: We appreciate that breakfast is included in the room rate. Hotel is close to everything in town. Parking behind hotel is convenient.
Cons: Furniture in our room did not match. One bed side table missing as well as the lamp. Makes it hard to read before going to sleep.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is ideal - you can walk everywhere. Hotel has good vibe. Get a room with a balcony in the main hotel - you can see what's going on in Northampton. Hotel is a big pricey but parking is free and you don't need to drive to good restaurants. Continental breakfast is included but we're addicted to the 'Downtown' at Jake's restaurant
Cons: Last time we got a room in the Residential Cottages which is not part of the hotel. It's in the middle of the parking lot and you feel that. Room was big with kitchenette but didn't like it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to what we needed. Clean and good value for the price
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, great lobby, some rooms have balconies
Cons: Hotel decor is dated and could be refreshed but it's an historic hotel so not a big deal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location and room. The beds were very comfortable and the room was spacios.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything
8.0 Excellent
Cons: This area of the hotel really needs work. The menu needs to expanded to cater to chicken. It was really slow both at the restaurant and room service.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was everything that I expected and my stay was very very comfortable and convenient.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beds were comfortable, restaurants good, easy parking, location perfect for everything Northampton has to offer.
Cons: Doors close loudly on rooms, but thats being really picky.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was the only disappointment. Coffee was not great. Food selection less than appetizing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location and great rooms
Cons: Inclusive beakfast was ok but limited
1.0 Poor
Cons: The hotel turned into a dormitory frat house. Music being played by a group of people celebrating a wedding. Running up and down corridors, shouting screams. Singing. Multiple calls to the front desk. It took hotel security asking them 3 times that I know of to settle down and this was at 02:30am. I had to be up at 7am so you can see how this ruined my night. These rooms are not venues for after parties. Very disappointing because this supposed to be a classy hotel. Not a frat boy motel.

Pros: Breakfast was adequate and well set up.
Cons: Cannot think of a thing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Impeccably clean. Tasteful, pleasing decor.
Cons: My one suggestion would be that they include a robe in the room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was terrific. I loved the clean, updated decor. It's a fresh update to a motel. The continental breakfast was easy and had healthy options. It was an easy place to stay. Having the room on the ground floor made it easy for the dog.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location and ground level floor.
Cons: Room showed signs of wear and tear and is not conducive to the rate they charge. I believe for the quality of this room it was overpriced by $35 for the night.
7.9 Good
Pros: Fantastic staff, good location, wonderful updated decor, comfortable bed.
Cons: I reserved a suite and paid a premium for that expecting a living room and separate bedroom. Their suites are simply larger rooms with a sitting area.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good 20 minute to the town but it's a lovely walk. You pass Smith College and some very nice homes and considering that parking in town can be a little difficult, walking was great.
Cons: Everything was fine.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: My stay was wonderful, the staff was pleasant and very helpful. The room was tastefully decorated and efficient. Close to downtown shops and restaurants, and located in a desirable area.
6.3 Good
Pros: Great location, nice yard, and one of the few hotels in Northampton that allows pets.
Cons: Slow check in. Room is just ok - rather like an upscale motel....and yet the price does not reflect this.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was exceptional and was willing to go above and beyond to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is a newly renovated inn within walking distance of Smith College and downtown Northampton. It is perfect! I'd say if you would like to enjoy a lovely New England college town, stay here! Unfortunately, I missed breakfast due to jet lag.
Cons: This is not an inexpensive place to stay. But I think the price was reasonable.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The location to Northampton was good. Parking was convenient. Nice neighborhood. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: It's tired. The lobby smells musty. The carpeting is dirty and stained in the hall and in the rooms. The bathroom needs remodeling. The breakfast was sparsely provisioned. I thought it was overpriced for the experience. I would not return.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super convenient location if you've visiting Smith. Easy and relaxed. Much more affordable than the other hotels nearby. We will stay again.

Pros: Location. I was attending a conference at Mt. Holyoke College. Door to door about seven minutes.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room was ok and it was clean enough.
Cons: The room is in need of upgrade and refurbishing. There was peeling wall paper every where and stains on curtains. We wanted something inexpensive and closeby for our clinic and we got that.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location was good. Beds are very hard and uncomfortable.
Cons: Uncomfortable beds, no ice machine or vending. No blankets or extra linens in room.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: Property is old, with peeling wallpaper, poorly cleaned rooms. Got no room service on weekend. Wi-Fi did not work in original room, so proprietors moved us to another room where the Wi-Fi did work, but the room had a bad odor in it. In general, proprietors were aloof and clearly uncaring about their property and guests.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very spacious. Nice surroundings. Good water pressure in the shower.
Cons: Could smell a little nicer.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful and friendly. We spent a quiet, peaceful evening. very restful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very close to my destination of Mt Holyoke College for a weeklong retreat.
Cons: Nothing really. It is not glamorous or luxurious, but it is VERY clean. The owners are very nice. The AC worked well. There was a fridge & microwave. Very reasonably priced. I will stay there again if I return next year.
7.9 Good
Pros: Room was what we expected. Nothing fancy. Good value for the money. Friendly staff.
Cons: The room had a strong cleaning agent residual smell, so maybe they could use something less strong to clean with so it doesn't hang around so long. We opened the windows to keep air flowing and air it out.

Cons: Pool could have been a little warmer.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff & pool
Cons: AC was loud. Window was broken in 307.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was exceptionally clean. I liked having the wood floors rather than wall to wall carpeting, which is often not so clean.
Cons: Although the continental breakfast was adequate, many hotels of the same price offer a full breakfast. For the price, it would be much better value with more offered for breakfast.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and clean room in a quiet location
Cons: Bit old
6.7 Good
Pros: Staff answered emails I sent within 24 hours. Staff were friendly
Cons: Reservation placed in June 2019 and I sent and received emails re: questions about my pets but at check in the lady stated there was nothing on the reservation about bringing dogs and she hesitated and had to look for a pet room causing much anxiety of the customer. Additional tension was created because we arrived @ 9PM after traveling 9 hours to this destination. Also, I am an asthmatic and the butt receptacles were located at both ends of the building entrances and 2 times I had an asthma attack walking past the smoker and I had to use my inhaler. People should be set up for smoking at least 40 feet away from the entrances
7.9 Good
Pros: big room; lots of space
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The location was the best thing about this hotel.
Cons: The hotel is dingy, with an overwhelming odor as you pass through the entrance to the lobby. My room was dusty, the towel bars had sticky brown residue on them, the AC unit smelled sour & took hours to cool the room to a comfortable temperature.
10.0 Excellent

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Desk clerk very friendly and helpful, beds were comfy, wifi worked very well. Nice cold breakfast...sorry it wasn't the weekend when they offer the full hot breakfast, but this was quick.
Cons: A bit hard to get to from the interstate, and looks on the outside like it has seen better days. Wood furniture a bit worn, but otherwise the furnishings were just fine.
5.4 Okay
Cons: The price was high for the quality of the hotel. The rooms were dated. Other guests were loud.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the cleanliness of the room. The beds were clean and neat and comfy. I enjoyed the quiet and I felt safe during the thunder and lightening storm we had that evening. I will stay again. The breakfast was good as well.
Cons: I didn't like the dust on the air conditioner filters. It was white so I knew it wasn't bad and probably were going to be cleaned soon anyways. Thats all.

7.5 Good
Pros: The lady owner was extremely nice and very accommodating.

Pros: Adequate rooms. Clean and very nice staff. Very old school.
7.5 Good
Pros: Loved the price.
Cons: The smell
5.0 Okay
Pros: Very convenient to get to UMass
Cons: The room was very dirty. You could see the top of the desk, night table, bathroom toilet and sink, were not thoroughly clean because the dirt came up easily on to the wet wipes I used to clean them. The grime behind the bathroom sink was horrible. We could not use the refrigerator because the smell was so strong that it made the room smell. Also, strong smell of cooking spices in the room. I am fine with a basic room with no frills, but I expect it to be clean.

3.1 Mediocre
Pros: The location was good for the highway and colleges.
Cons: This place has not been updated or cleaned since the 1960s. If you're looking to film a low budget horror movie, this is the perfect place.
5.8 Okay
Pros: low price
Cons: I called them twice to verify my booking and they couldn't bother to look it up in their computer. used bar of soap in shower lead us to believe that they didn't clean the shower area.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The bed was extremely comfortable and that was main reason for booking this location. It was simply going to be a halfway point to stop for the night before continuing on home. The staff were very friendly. It appeared to just be an older couple in charge of the Inn and they were both very nice. We found (basically) diagonally across the street from the Inn was a very good seafood restaurant called the Smithsonian Chowder House/The Clam Shack. We ate there in the morning before heading home. This was a nice surprise and added another plus to staying at the Hatfield Inn.
Cons: There was nowhere to sit outside of the room. There was space to put chairs on the walkway, but there were none. We took the one and only chair from inside of the room and put it outside. We saw who we assumed was the wife of the gentleman who checked us in (she was cleaning the room next to ours) and asked her for another chair, which she promptly grabbed for us. There is also a large grassy area in the front of the Inn that could have benches, picnic tables, etc and yet it was completely empty. It is a totally unutilized space that has potential for making a great area for guests to sit and relax, and maybe even house a gazebo. Although the room was very clean and had no foul odors, it could definitely use some sprucing up, painting and renovating. The bathroom was antiquated and Pepto Pink.
6.7 Good
Pros: It's a roadside motel, a bit dated but perfectly adequate
Cons: A bit dated, doesn't seem to have wifi
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: I didn't like anything, the room was ok but the bathroom was small and the room had a rank smell to it. Everything was dusty and I had to go in and clean everything. The man that checked me in was drunk. Not a good experience. Never again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent. Halfway between the music festival site and Northampton. Enjoyed my stay.
Cons: The internet connection kept dropping out. Nothing dramatic, but I like to log on and stay logged on without being disconnected!
4.2 Okay
Cons: For the price I wasn’t expecting much but the place is horribly run down. It smelled of mildew. The showers was so run down and creepy I didn’t even use it. Did not want to step on carpet in bare feet.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: price, small refrigerator and microwave
Cons: damn near everything else, especially the bathroom lighting, sink drain, bath drain, shower, towels, overall cleanliness, even the cable TV, need a lot of help
5.4 Okay
Pros: the lady was nice and friendly.
Cons: the room was in need of decoration it felt very sorry for itself. No breakfast which we knew before hand.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The price! Very clean and tidy. Fridge, microwave, couch, nice and roomy. Quiet AC, nice window that opened. Very inexpensive. Nice host- $14. cab to downtown Northampton for a concert. Comfy beds, everything was really above expectations! Host very kind.
Cons: Bathroom needs updating- old tiles. For the price, cannot be beat! Lobby small and funky but adequate.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place to stay, exactly what you would expect from a motel off the Interstate. Staff were friendly and location was great.
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Very old and run down
