The car ran poorly. It had over 53K miles and accelerated poorly and was sluggish. We were unable to swap it out because we were under tight time constraints and in different cities. The fuel economy was decent, but the car struggled to go over 60mph as needed on I-94.

At the last minute, when I went to pick up the car, I was an 1-2 hour early. The Hertz representative charged me extra money for picking up my car early, which I think is ridiculous. You are allowed to pick up cars as early as previous nite with no charges in cities where office closes at 5 pm., but Hertz charged me for 2 hours extra. Ridiculous!

Cons:

Computers were down when picking up my rental, so there was a long line and long wait to complete the paperwork. Then, after the paperwork was completed, they had to radio someone to bring up our rental (a minivan) and we waited more than 20 minutes for someone to bring it. I went back to the counter and asked if the van was somewhere we could walk to and pick it up and they radioed again. Then I watched as a porter went to a minivan that was a short walk (maybe 100 yards away) and drive the car to the front of the building.

Compact SUV

The lady at the Detroit airport pickup office was incredible! She was kind, efficient, and extremely helpful. There was an issue with the first vehicle I picked up. The car smelled like someone had been smoking in the vehicle. That was not acceptable for a week rental. When I went back to the counter and pointed out this problem the person helping me was apologetic and immediately arranged for another vehicle. I would hire this person to work in my office.

Pros:

Due to Covid, we had to cancel our trip, and this our reservation. Delta refunded all of our money back. Thrifty did not, and blamed it on Kayak. I will now use neither.

Pros:

Tricia was top-notch, extremely helpful to me when I was picking up the car and dropping it off. I wish more rental car companies had people like her to help folks like me!

Pros:

2019 Camry was a great car.

Cons:

$13/day to add a spouse as a driver is ridiculous. Every other car rental company that I’ve used does this for free. Will not be using Thrifty in the future on this basis.

Absolutely awful. They didn’t have anyone at the Payless so everyone had to be in one line at the Avis. Line was SO long and the staff was moving so slowly. I saw one staff member texting slowly while looking at all of us in the long line. Extremely hot in there, felt like no AC. We ended up walking out and choosing to Uber the hour drive to our hotel and waste the money because we had a wedding to get to. Truly one of the worst experiences ever. Do NOT use this company!!!!

Pros:

Nothing. Dumped Payless rental retrieval of rental car to Avis center where the lines were horrendous. Waited for more than an hour long to get a car instead of full size SUV for which I paid for. Most horrible rental car experience!

The Budget car rental staff and policy are the worst I have ever dealt with. Especially Kayak. HOW CAN YOU LET A DRIVER RESERVE A VEHICLE THAT YOU MUST BE 25 TO RESERVE AND THEN CANCEL FOR A FEE. WITH NO AGE VERIFICATION. Completely B.S

HAVE AGE VERIFICATION BEFORE RESERVING A CAR THAT REQUIRES A CERTAIN AGE TO EVEN PICK UP!!!!!

Vehicle had trash in it. Starbucks cups orange peels. Seats and floor dirty. Gas was not full. It had about 2/3 tank. Service was so bad that I didn't want to go back in and say anything as the rental was the only truck available.

Terrible, will never rent from them again. Stood in line for 1.5 hours to get my car..completely understaffed. Rented a luxury class and got a Toyota Highlander with cloth seats… the vehicle exterior was not remotely clean..

Waited 2 hours in line during check in in order to get a car. Slowest system I’ve ever seen for car pick up. Can’t believe in 2024 this isn’t a kiosk or there isn’t a more efficient way to check in. I’m all for face to face business but in this case 2 people to check in 20+ people in 2 hours detracts from the customer experience.

I received an incorrect damage claim even after showing video proof of pre-existing damage after checking the car back in at destination. Had to go through Customer Service to fix this. Very annoying.

Everything was excellent except for one thing; the amount charged on my credit card was way higher than my rental agreement and the final amount upon return. The National car rental location was Detroit, Mi Airport and returned to Brownsville,Tx airport. Something happened in the transition and hopefully National can correct the problem! I have a dispute reference number and I am waiting for the call from National at this time.
