Despite the weather, which turned whilst we were there the staff and facilities were excellent. Nothing :-)
It was all lovely
Very nice welcome and all the staff tried very hard to make the stop enjoyable. Chap who sorted our bikes into the store was excellent and smiled away even in the rain. Loved the place and will be back again. Perfect start to our long weekend away. Spar very good and kids loved the games room. Think some of the meals were too expensive - ended up eating out as young family of four - too much for a short break.
My husband and I like to stay at the north lakes hotel because it is a wonderful halfway point when we are travelling down south and we know we will be given first class service. We also enjoy the homely log fires etc. This Hotel gives us everything we expect from a Hotel. On arrival we sometimes feel that some areas are fully occupied with business people on mobiles and computers treating these areas as they would an office.
Being upgraded to a suite I thought the food in the restaurant was a bit disappointing, it wasn't as good as I'd have expected. My duck was pretty tasteless and the scallops were drowning in cheese and fat.
Immediate email response to request for dinner reservations somewhat impersonal
the spa facilities were excellent and the staff were very helpfull and good parking facilities. I thought £145 for room only was expensive and that the bedroom and bathroom should be updated for that sort of money. Also the breakfast service could be more efficient
Nice, clean, good quality hotel with good facilities including, of course, the Pool and Spa. Kids room with Wii, PS2, Pool table, Air Hockey and boarad games was a nice addition. The room was very well appointed with a very high quality bathroom and nice furnishings. TV had a number of Sky channels. Overall a very nice place to stay. Room was a little noisy, not so much in the night but certainly in the morning when people were in the corridor outside. I wouldn't let this put me off returning though.
Very friendly staff, hotel in a wonderful location with wonderful views, very good quality room and breakfast. Bar looked nice with open fire, although did not use
The location was ideal for my business trip
Very quiet, peaceful surroundings, lovely comfortable room, excellent staff Whereas the rooms and breakfast are first class, the hallways and stair carpets are are old and smelly, could do with a lick of paint, but i am nit picking here.
A medium sized Georgian House / Hotel, we had an excellent large bedrooom, with a kingsize bed, and a large bathroom. The room was very quiet, and the Hotel is set in beautiful contryside over looking the Edan valley, but not too far off the beaten track, better appreciated in the long summer evenings. The food was very good. No.
Pleasant surroundings, very peaceful and residents lounge very quiet and relaxing.
The staff were friendly and helpful
the breakfasts were very good - cooked to individual tastes. The log fires were a nice touch. The views were lovely. the bathroom had enormous cobwebs! it could also have been better without carpets which were a bit stained.
The hotel is wonderfully peaceful, a real retreat. The staff were excelllent. The hotel needs to desperately add an entrance sign at the front of the lane which leads to the hotel, as impossible to spot in the dark. Getting lost on those dark lanes was not the most pleasant intro to my stay.
It was convient for motorway and was ideal for one night stop over. Fabulous views and pleasnt garden Main bar room could do with a bit of a makeover as it could be very attractive.
Friendly helpful staff Room was not particularly clean. Blankets and cover needed freshening up.
This was out in the middle of no where and great for our honeymoon!!
Well presented and friendly staff, good menu for the bar and lounge, secluded location.
fantastic position, loved the balcony overlooking the fells and the reservoir, bed was cosy and the public rooms and terrace all really good features: good breakfast Disliked all the signs eg re bathwater economy ( bit like a boarding house!): we were sorry there was no shower for those not in ensuite rooms, also no washbasins in the public lavatory rooms: had trouble washing or drying my hair in provided facilities ( tried in bath then washbasin, then trying to dry it with the hand dryer was awkward): there was no soap in the public bathroom sinks and they were rather draughty bathrooms: it was a great pity bar meals stopped at 6.30pm esp as good choice and menu: we didn`t want the evening meal and in the end went out to local village Bampton for a meal
food very good & friendly staff. poor car parking facilities.
The food at the resturant was very good as well as the hotel accomadation being of a high standard. Not all Television channels available (this was not a problem for us, as senery was so lovely we didn't need TV)
View from the room was stunning. The menu was excellent and the food delicious. The staff were courteous and helpful. Would have preferred a proper shower over the bath.
Staff very attentive , freindly No tv in bar
Exquisitely beautiful setting, lovely building, open fires in bar and dining room, delightful staff, excellent food, very good value. A bit chilly in our room
the ideal sutiation in a very pecefull area no
The overall standard of the room, the fittings and furnishings. Room service was efficient and friendly. The reception was indifferent.Queries were answered defensively and the duty manager could not be bothered to read my hotel comments form, or react to it when I checked out.
Its position. Our room was lovely, bright, comfortable and of unusual design. The public rooms were a bit cold but since the weather had turned suddenly wintry this was perhaps excusable. Fire in bar went on too late for us to enjoy it.
Convenience and comfort Not being told about the choice between a room with a view and a room overlooking the car park
We arrived later than expected and bar meals were about to close - I ordered meals for both my husband & I. My meal wasnt quited cooked through, staff replaced it and also gave a couple of free drinks when I went to the bar. Nothing was to much trouble. this is my 2nd or 3rd time here & staff have always been excellent. - I would recommend it to my friends
The food was excellant, and very good value for money. The room was spacious and clean with modern features and fabulous views.Ideal for weekend break.
convenient comfortable stopover situation on our journey from Hampshire to Edinburgh Nothing specific.
easy to find No Smoking allowed rooms
THITs is an ideal hotel for breaking your journey frm England to Scotland. Although it is situated next to the motorway iti s secluded and peaceful. he food is excellent and the surroundings make you wish that there was moreti me for exploration.
The restuarant is very good, serving a limited variety of excellent food. Service was good during our stay, but this must be balanced by the fact that the hotel was not very busy. Comfortable hotel, but we were a little disappointed to find that the booked Executive room was not available (due to maintenance) and we were downgraded to a classic room instead.
Comfortable with nice views TV reception was poor, picture very poor, programme choice limited.
Alex & Jeff were very friendly and accommodating. My fiance and I had to get up very early the following day and Alex & Jeff had no problem serving us breakfast at a much earlier time. We were also able to return to the hotel after our excursion to shower and dress before heading leaving. Jeff's home made bread at breakfast and the home made preserves were a lovely addition to an absolutley lovely, peaceful and relaxing stay. There was nothing we did not like or enjoy about the hotel.
Superb hospitality and fantastic home cooking. Easy access to Culgaith from the a66.
Our stay at Laurel House was without doubt the best weekend break we have ever had in many years. Jeff and Alex were the most attentive, caring proprietors one could wish for. We felt so much a part of the home, particularly so, on our Sunday morning breakfast, which we shared, and enjoyed, with a Scottish couple, and two Japanese archaeology students. A really "international breakfast". Jeff and Alex's attention to their guests, ensuring they had wonderfully comfortable beds, and quite incredible breakfasts, is what they are all about. They have based their provision on what they would want - they have excelled! We will be back within the next month or so, and have already recommended "Laurel House" to our friends. Going home!
Very good hosts and a beautiful place to stay None
the friendly atmosphere, comfortable, clean, excellent food and the owners made our stay very enjoyable
The amazingly warm welcome, company and gorgeous food. The lovely house and super comfortable bed. There is nothing that can be faulted. A very unique place!
Thanks for host & hostes 's good & worm treatment
Excellent stanards. Very hospitable owners. Spotlessly clean. Extremely comfortable. Breakfast wonderful. Highly recommended. None
Unable to fault any part of our stay. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Accommodation spotless and food first class None
I enjoyed the charm and comfort of the hotel. Have been staying in Penrith for the past 30 years in a bed and breakfast and thought it about time I had a change as my husband died 7 years ago.No regrets. There are no complaints at all fortunately.
I was made to feel at home. No complaints.
Old fashioned hotel, friendly staff, good food, cheerful fires burning, newspapers available to sit with in the bar, lovely & comfortbale chairs in the foyer area, good fire exits outside our windows Cold coffee @ breakfast
the friendly staff and the cosy surroundings
The helpfulness, friendliness and efficiency of the staff
worked difficulty in finding car park
Staff were welcoming and helpful, made my business meeting work effectively. Bar shut early!
Fantastic hotel. Old world charm and great service with comfortable rooms at a very good price. I will be staying here again !! All round a very pleasing experience. Would consider staying longer in future.
Attractive decor downstairs, room clean albeit very small, good clean bathroom with good shower, good quality products used in the breakfast, even the tea was good, unlike a lot of hotels in England. Having a free car park is a bonus. Some of the upstairs decor was a bit unusual, and the door to my room was shabby, which undermined the superb appearance of the ground floor decor.
Helpfullness of staff
The hotel and staff were very pleasant. Heating in room was inadequate.
Pease and tranquil atmosphere Nothing
Spectacular lake side setting with great drive in and out. Food expensive for the quality.
Great location, great views, spacious well furnished common areas
Excellent location, good views across Ullswater and close to good mountain walks.Relaxed atmosphere in hotel and friendly staff.
The chill out factor and the staff The first room they gave us had no view but the manager had no problem in offering us a lake view free upgrade
location is excellent and the facilities quite reasonable the site advertised the availability of a wireless internet service. On arrival I was advised this had been inoperative for at least a week no alternative arrangements had been made and no aplogy or explanation was offered. The food and beverage offering was too formal although the quality of food was very good.
The staff were friendly, the food (and service) was excellent and the location was perfect. The room was large (fell view) and comfortably furnished. All in all the perfect spot for a relaxing stay, and ideally located for touring the lakes.
If you book into the hotel make sure you book lakeside views - Amazing. Slept with the curtains open so wouldn't miss the changing colours of the mountains and lake. Felt the restaurant menu had limited choice.
The Hotel had a fantastic location and view. It was very peacefull. We felt the single rooms in the hotel were very small.
It was very quiet and relaxing and a lovely location. Unfotunately we found the reception staff quite rude and unwelcoming. The dining hall and bar staff were very helpful and friendly.
The surrounding countryside and waterfall Pillows were very uncomfortable
The staff were uniformly charming and the hotel quiet and comfortable
staff were excellent and very helpful shower over bath was poor other than that everything was very good
The grounds were beautiful. The furnishings downstairs were lovely and decor grand the bathroom loads of mildew. Antiquated shower in bath. No comfortable chairs in room to sit on
exellent dinner, breakfast and service no
The fantastic walks within the exceptionally maintained hotel grounds and their comitment to supporting local wildlife I have never seen a red squirrel really cool the bed cover was a blanket and had hairs on it
bed small but comfortable, good value for a mid week break
position was excellent
Beautiful hotel and surroundings. Ideal for walkers. Good food, excellent breakfast.
We received a really warm and friendly welcome. The food was extremely tasty and home made, from local produce. The garden looked really nice to sit out in, but the weather was a bit too cold. The fireplace looked inviting but unfortunately wrong season for it.
Fantastic friendly atmosphere, excellent home cooked food, a lovely place to stay. Could not fault anything.
Very friendly, really great people!
Friendly, convenient Room was a bit small
Owner very pleasant and helpful. Nice stay in an area rich with history.
The host George is very sociable and is really helpful, chatty and supportive, he makes the stay that bit more than a room for the night
Very welcoming, excellent service.
Quiet location at night. It was like spendig a night at a home of a friend. The improvised shower in the bathtube was not very useful.
Excellent, first class The best B&B I have stayed in this year, and I have stayed in a few all over the country. When you get your windscreen deiced for you before leaving. Now thats what you call service. I will be back.
Very pleasant and helpful host offering advice on where best to eat for our evening meal.very close to M6 motorway for our further journey to North Scotland.
