Staff was pleasant and courteous. Public facility was adequate for the price. Beach and pool close at hand. Room just bare bones with great view. Could have used a few nicer touches and some effort a decoration and class.
The hotel is a great place to spend a vacation. The rooms are kept up nicely although they are older. The view from each room is spectacular and the kitchenette is sufficient to prepare snacks. This is not my first trip to Shell Island and I would recommend it to others. The staff like many other places these days doesn't quite understand how to interact with customers. The hotel management walks right by you without a smile or a greeting. However, the maintenance staff was friendly. Reported a clogged cammode that was never fixed and I we were bitten up by sand fleas. I mentioned it to the desk and was told with a smile that they come in through the doors. Thanks Albert Einstein for the lesson. Also charge $2.50 for a cup of coffee which should be complimentary.
The views of the ocean, inlet, intracoastal waterway, and the island were amazing! We were able to watch the sunrise and sunset over the water. The beds and pillows were so very soft and comfortable. The rooms were spacious and nice. Overall a wonderful stay! The only negatives I have are that the food from the onsite restaurant was not all that good and way over priced for what you get. Needless to say, we only had one meal at the restaurant. Also, the hot tub could be bigger, or maybe they could have a second, adults only hot tub.
Beach front The noisy people in the outside hallway in the middle of the night
Staff Right on the beach Good rooms for the money No ice machines working Pool and Spa under repairs- I called and asked about pool nothing was said. Not a website
Nice view. The head of the beds are placed along the wall that separates the room from the exterior breezeway. There is a large window over the beds. It is EXTREMELY noisy (echo is terrible- each door closing sounds like a slam) and people were loud (running/screaming) and have no consideration of other guests. I had to call and complain about the people in the room next door, multiple times, who were screaming, fighting, and throwing things (there was broken glass in the breezeway the next morning). I chose this hotel to have a quiet get away and get rest between two long back to back drives, and I didn't sleep at all. I understand that they cannot control the fighting of guests in their rooms, but all they did was knock and tell them to keep it down (I know this because the breezeway is so loud I could hear everything perfectly). The couple was not "just being loud," it was a domestic disturbance and should have been handled differently or told to vacate... Also, the rooms are old. Bathrooms need updating. The coffee pot was pitiful. Coffee pods provided don't even go with that kind of 20 yr old Mr. Coffee off brand. Very disappointed.
Location. Amenities. Price. VERY expensive for the value. I have paid $200 less a night for way better hotels. But this is the only place on the beach basically so they can jack up the rates and get away with it.
The ocean was beautiful. Beach was beautiful. Employees helpful. Breakfast was great! A lot of different options of things to do. Wish I had stayed longer. Room wasn't clean by 4 PM. Management was quite accommodating when we reported it. They provided immediate corrective action.
Charming facilities and excellent restaurant. Perfect beachfront.
Location. It's a 50ish year old hotel. Kinda feels like it. Needs a face lift and overhaul. Heard vibrations in the walls while takin a shower. Etc. just an old place. Still good though.
Beachfront, staff friendly on beach and in restaurant. Complimentary breakfast was very good. However the AC stopped working around 5am and was not fixed until 9 pm that evening. No one seemed to know when it would be repaired. Couldn't open windows because no screens.. I asked 2 different desk clerks if they would offer any type of compensation for this issue. Both of them promised to speak with the manager and get back in touch. I left both phone and email contact info. Never heard from anyone.Wont recommend or stay there again.
The WiFi never worked in our room and there was a frequent rattle in the wall which was especially annoying at night. They also really need towel rods in the bathroom and hooks for beach towels and bathing suits...
Accommodations were amazing, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and the extras like a wonderful breakfast and fantastic hot tub really added a lot. The room wasn't cheap, even on a cheap night. The breakfast, hotel facilities, etc--are all top notch, but certainly are things you noticeably pay for in your room cost. I highly recommend a stay here if planning to take advantage of all of these to the fullest--it then is certainly worth the room cost.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Especially appreciated Katie's help with recommendations for local shopping.
Perfect distance from Raleigh area - no need to leave the premise for the 48 hours we were there. 2 pools, 2 hot tubs and beach within 100 paces made for the perfect stay for parents and children (8,7,2).
View, cleanliness, overall comfort. ATTENTION CLEANING STAFF: Some folks like to sleep-in a little on a Saturday morning, so maybe stop slamming doors and being noisy while cleaning rooms at 0830 in the morning...
Feeling so welcome and special. The staff made you feel like you are suppose to be there. They seem to go the extra mile to know their guests and their needs. 10 star hospitality! Dealing with Kayak. If you are eligible for any discounts, military, senior, disabled call the hotel direct. Kayak will not deal with you after you have made the reservation. My husband and I both on the phone got hung up on 6 times, Kayak response was to transfer you to a line that never got answered and timed out. We paid $200. To much!!
The room was HUGE! and very clean. The staff was pleasant and the location was perfect for shopping and going out to eat.
good location, very good facilities, helpful staff, excellent amenities
It was very clean, the staff was very nice The walls were rather thin. We could hear EVERYTHING our neighbors were doing.
The location was perfect, and the staff was great ( friendly, helpful, and accommodating )! Enjoyed our time in Wilmington, and the Wingate. I would definitely stay again. The walls were thin, could hear the people in a joining rooms.
Location was perfect and the staff was great. Everyone at the front desk, especially Elana were very helpful and Heather had drinks, popcorn and mixed chips in the main area for 3 nights of our stay. Hot tub and pool had no one but the 2 of us each time we went and were clean and nice. Breakfast was also very good with many options. I will stay here again. One evening we came back from our day trips and our room door had been left open by Houskeeping. Nothing of our personal belongings had been touched but it was still not a good feeling.
Got there early after a long trip, the girl at the desk checked us right in (at 10am). So we could shower and clean up for an appointment we had for noon. And later check with us to make sure we had everything we needed.
Everything was great. Everyone was friendly.
Friendly staff. Clean ,comfortable, and quiet. Great location...handy to restaurants and shopping. Not a thing.
Very clean overall. The room was updated and cleaned well. I don't smoke and don't want to deal with someone else's smoke or pet odor. This hotel is non smoking and no pets. Great! Staff was very friendly. Small concern - coffee was from a machine not fresh brewed. Taste was off. Hard to believe they spend so much effort everywhere else and skimp on coffee.
Location was central and a short drive to beach. House keeping didn't give a towel or washcloth per person, which is odd. Took dirty towels but didn't replace them. Shower had mold and mildew in it. When we went to pool there were never clean towels.
Clean rooms, housekeeping service was excellent. Breakfast was ok. The property was easily accessible - I did not notice any street noise (our room did face the street). People had noisy dogs, didn't appear to clean up after them. Smoking was occurring right in front of the exit - my children and I had to walk through nasty cigarette smoke.
Had a great time staying there. Staff was greatly accomodating. Would definitely stay again.
When you think of a motel, you normally assume a tired run down 2 star hole in the wall. The golden sands is hands down a 5 star kinda motel. More like HOTEL! the first thing I noticed when I finally checked in was how clean the building was! It even smelled clean! The room was perfect. The beds were so comfortable! the bathroom was really nice and modern looking, and the staff I encountered was nothing but nice. I'd highly recommend this to families, couples, groups of friends, or anybody looking for a great deal on a wonderful place. I enjoyed my stay very much and will be back hopefully sooner than later! The indoor pool deck was gross and there was trash and a used diaper sitting in one of the chairs. With it being such a family friendly area, i feel it should be kept up with a few times daily! But to be fair, I peeked inside, with no plans of ever using it in the first place. You're at a beachfront motel who needs an indoor pool!
Staff was great and answered to our needs. Room was very clean. Nothing. Our stay was good.
Waterfront veiw They gave my room to someone else, and didn't even tell me. Be up front and honest .
Everything needed was accessible in close proximity by having a nice gift shop, convenience food, lunch food Tiki bar on bosrdwalk, indoor and outdoor pools, nice restaurant, good food for evening. Very clean and affordable. I would return and recommend to my friends. Easy access to a beautiful beach. Room colors were dark but that's about it.
i liked the location and the nice beach
Location. Right on the beach. Very clean. Staff was super friendly. Parking was difficult at times
Location and friendly staff
Proximity to waterfront Price Dining proximity Television was extremely old Did not change sheets
Good location and friendly staff. My room was clean and I had everything I needed. Very comfortable. The fact that it is a non-smoking hotel, and yet there were apparently chain smokers in the room next to me. They kept trying to cover it with cologne and both smells kept finding their way into my room. I am not sure if they really did anything about it or if there is anything they can do.
Our stay was relaxing. The bed was comfortable. The pool felt great and everything went smoothly for us and our dog. Very glad for the pet friendly atmosphere. The coffee.
Friendly front desk personal. I appreciate the hotel having my reservation and expecting me. No excuses for not having my room ready. Breakfast was great and a significant variety. I would have liked more towels with the number of people in the room.
It was in a great area! Lots of food & the beaches are all close. A little drive to the beach & a little drive to downtown Wilmington. Not to bad though. 5/10 miles.
Front desk very accommodating with extra towels and trash bags. Also changing our room to pet friendly.
The room looked nice and had a microwave, mini fridge, and was decently renovated. The pool was decent but not great like the picture showed. The staff was pretty friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel. The room was not clean we found lots of evidence of where they had skipped over things. The pool was NOT the nice big pool the picture had shown. We asked the help desk for advice on local food and they had no knowledge of the area, and the included breakfast was pretty blah.
The staff was very nice and helpful, room was great, beds were comfy, location near the Carolina Coast. Can't complain about anything regarding the hotel. This review didn't allow for changes in the check marks in the first section: purpose of trip, traveling as, rating selections. It was a leisure trip, couple traveling with adult daughter and 5-star rating all around.
We stayed at this hotel for a wedding on the USS North Carolina, the staff was great the room was clean large and well lit. Could use a little more TLC for the bathroom but the shower was nice.
The room itself was spacious and the lobby and pool area was nice. My wife said that the breakfast was delightful. We were place in a room next to the stairwell and outdoor exit, connected to a room where a man was clearly verbally abusing his significant other and physically abusing their dog. I was finally forced to ask management to quite them down, and they were still going at it at 2 AM. The "kicker" is we were placed in a handicap room, which, by all rights, should be reserved for people with physical disability. What if someone disabled actually needed that room? I was glad we only staid for the night.
Service, amenities and location were excellent. Will stay here on next visit to Wilmington. Could only give four stars for cleanliness of bath room. There was mold on tub surround bottom and vertical seam at corner of wall tub surround.
Clean, comfortable, centrally located and great great wifi internet connection and speed. The internet is almost worth the stay alone. Staff was very friendly and accomadating. Near a Verizon tower which made the experience that much better for my cell phone use.
Hotel was clean and staff was very friendly and accommodating. Staff was always ready with a suggestion for lunch, dinner, and activities with the kids. Tobias (at the front desk) helped us plan, showed us locations on the map, and gave us brochures and info. You could tell that the the staff genuinely took pride in their jobs. We hope to go back again next year! No complaints at all.
It was a wonderful stay! The breakfast they served was amazing, and the staff was extremely courteous and professional
The hotel was undergoing renovations in the lobby, fitness and breakfast areas. So check-in took longer than to be expected and hot breakfast was not available. Although, cold items such as bagels, cereal, etc. were offered and coupons to nearby restaurants was provided as a consolation. The thin walls. I could hear my neighbors laughing and chatting. Thankfully, I was too tired to let that deter me from sleeping. I also think the price per night should have been a bit lower to accommodate the renovation challenges. Discount coupons for breakfast helped, but there were similarly priced hotels nearby that would have provided better amenities - sans the construction.
That I couldn't spend more time there
Mr. Phillip was stupendous in welcoming and paying attention to detail so. He and the staff were very friendly and professional. There is definitely a "homey" atmosphere and very accommodating. They made the getaway with my wife and I very rewarding. We will definitely return. Nothing.....
the workers the hair in the tub
Having a free coffee bar available when we arrived tired in the afternoon was a pleasant surprise. Exercise room, while small, had nice equipment.
Great stay... had to take sick child to Dr.. granted late check out so other child could sleep... breakfast great... room very clean with a personal note from the hospitality staff... My son attends UNCW and I visit often... will stay here again!
very quiet. friendly staff
Great staff clean rooms good breakfast what else could you ask for
Everything. The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and the breakfast was great. Nothing
Professional employees and the clean rooms. Even though hotel was full it was still quiet
Had a great stay and great continental breakfast!
Great experience. Very nice staff, nicely appointed rooms that were very clean and comfortable. Would have been nice to have a small refrigerator in the room. Would not have wanted to stay long without one.
Great location close to Wrightsville Beach and short drive to downtown. Kids enjoyed the pool which is set in a great courtyard. The standard hotel complimentary breakfast was good. Room had a very mild musty smell. Think it was time to change the filter in the AC.
Everyone I came in contact with made a special effort to acknowledge you. All seemed concerned for the comfort of our stay. The room was wonderful and the garden and pool area was lovely. Breakfast was warm and inviting with the employees in that area.
The room we initially received was well below normal Hampton standards in cleanliness, quality and detail. I brought this up to front office staff (sorry don't know his name) and he was extremely helpful, addressed my concerns by going up to the room and seeing my issues, then put us in another room. The building is 20 years old so one needs to remember this when booking. However, it was an enjoyable experience and the new room was moderately better. The ceiling panels were moldy, the walls were beaten up, there was black stuff in the ceiling corners, the smoke detector was falling off the wall, the bedspreads were grey instead of white.
coffee and tea in lobby
room was nice with kitchen staff nice nice hot tub breakfast was not tasty pool was small
Staff very friendly I stayed for a week and the house keeping didn't clean my room ... They only clean my room two days
I definitely felt comfortable at TownePlace. The room was large enough for me on this particular business trip. Definitely liked it had a frig and a large work area. The free Wifi was decent. The staff was friendly and it was nice to have a breakfast in the morning. The parking lot. It's a decent size but if you get there late at night like I did, the parking lot can be tight for people with longer wheelbase truck.
Staff very helpful. Breakfast attendant deserves credit and probably a raise for her conscientiousness and management. Other staff also friendly and helpful. Photo of hotel from waterside (building's side) on website is interesting but does not do justice to the hotel, which is more attractive seen on person (from front) and fits in well with those buildings neighboring it. Room furnishings were clean, but insubstantial.
I loved that it was in walking distance of restaurants, bars, etc. The room was a little small
The staff was very friendly always and treated you every Tim you saw them
Very large room, nice sun at the pool, that it had a hot tub, great full breakfast included, and very friendly staff. The elevator smelled like a dead man's feet that had been pooped out of a walrus.
Homewood Suites may just be the best place to stay in America!! NO!
Everything was great..clean and very friendly personnel Nothing
The staff was friendly and very helpful.
The staff was very friendly and extremely accommodating. Not to mention the hotel itself was excellent. The ONLY thing that was a little weird was that the room we were in was on the corner and the sun would shine very brightly through the windows but the shades do not close all the way (not because they were broken)
This the only way to stay in a hotel, great value and very clean and nice
easy access to all locations, walked to shopping area for dinner and coffee. Hotel provided free breakfast and afternoon snacks. Suite was comfortable
The location of this hotel and the size of the room were wonderful for our short weekend stay. We will definitely look at staying in a Homewood Suites on our other trips. The wonderful breakfast was a hit as well with the kids! Highly recommend! Nothing to speak of...
Great location, very nice room
This guest did not leave comments about this hotel.
Good location next to Mayfaire Town Center and friendly, helpful staff. The room was a little run down with a large crack in the sink, a hole in the wall in the bathroom and the refrigerator did not work when we got there, but maintenance fixed the fridge the next day and overall the hotel was nice.
Nice hot tub and indoor pool Beach right out the back door Food from their restaurant was overpriced, but tasty My wife liked the Starbucks in the hotel, I prefered the coffee shop across the street. The room smelled like stale cigarette smoke. The air conditioner didn't work half of the time The room door could not open all the way. Limited parking
We have stayed here before and enjoyed our stay. Nice ocean view and location is right in the heart of Carolina Beach uncomfortable bed and tub/shower valve dripped all night.
The location to the beach is great. The staff are wonderful. The noise was ridiculous. There was loud music going until 2am and then the neighboring rooms kept slamming their doors. We were so frustrated that we cut our 3 night stay short and found a different hotel. If you are looking to get away to relax, this is not the hotel for you.
the room was nice - the view was perfect. The staff was always very friendly. it was nice that I could walk down the hall and out on to the beach. the mattress on the bed really needs replacing. It was a little saggy.
staff was great, friendly and helpful - direction to places we were going. Bathroom could have been cleaner. . . . wiped it down myself to save time. it was a short trip.
Location Hotel construction and blue plastic over the windows.. Very tacky
Superior customer service. Deliciously comfortable beds and linens.
The staff at the Hilton Garden Inn was great. They accommodated a request for an additional bed in the room by securing two blow up mattresses. Above and beyond.
Room was clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Internet access was fine. Breakfast buffet was good. Coffee available in the morning as well. Location to Mayfaire Town Center was very convenient Water was not cold enough in bathroom sink, seemed like it was always luke-warm.
Continental breakfast was lacking they stated staff was off for holidays poor excuse
Location No complimentary breakfast.
clean, new, modern, comfortable bed no
Staff is very professional and courteous. The beds are the worst. Platform bed with rock hard, thin mattress. Pillows are either down or down substitute? Flat as pancakes with no support. Super firm mattress with flat blobs for pillows? What?? No vent fan in bathrooms!
Great location No
Good size room with a comfortable bed.
Location The dirty carpets
Location Upgraded to water front room got room over roof and Hugh ac unit, not much of a waterfront
Any staff member I interacted with was kind and professional. No complaints there. The location is unbeatable. I expected more from a Hilton. The building appeared older and in need of remodeling. The bathroom was large but had not been properly cleaned, I.e., feces on the toilet seat and writing on the mirror from the previous guest.
Great riverside view, you can see the battles go from the room. Unfriendly staff
Staff that listened & addressed problems. Ms Leigh Anne from guest services was extremely helpful & made sure my concerns were addressed. Her professional manner made for a very enjoyable stay thank you. Housekeeping
The room was clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. The restaurants on site were excellent. Parking was reasonably priced also. Nothing. Everything was as expected for Hilton.
Was told by hotel reservations they had a rooms at two different rates and then told that was a mistake and they only had the higher rate when I told them we wanted the cheaper option. Made the reservation through hotels.com at the cheaper rate about 2 minutes later. This kept me from getting my "Honors" rewards.
