It was probably exactly what I expected. Be prepared for the steps! Do not try to lug all your bags down. We put what we needed for the night into a couple plastic bags and took those to the room. But the view is incredible and that is why we stayed there. Location was particularly good for backpackers, hikers and students traveling. This is not a place for anyone with mobility problems. The kitchen faucet did not work. Everything was very clean. Bathroom far better than I would have expected.
The view The steps down
The cottage was great and had a small kitchen with all the supplies to make meals for yourself. The restaurant at the top was very good and served a nice dinner and breakfast. The views were amazing! We packed small bags from our large suitcases to take down to the cottage as the stairs made it impossible to take heavy bags up or down.Don't let this deter this hotel it was worth the stay.
The views were outstanding!! Can't get any better than up on a cliff overlooking the sea. A totally unobstructed view! It was magnificent!! Very quiet and secluded. We stayed in one of the apartments on the property, and while spacious, it was down an incredibly long succession of steps! We are both in really good shape, but carrying our huge bags down, and then up, those steps was difficult to say the least. And they did not even offer to help, of course. The only staff member there at check in was a very disinterested woman. I never saw anyone in the restaurant. There were literally about 20 cats roaming the grounds. Couldn't get heater to work in room. Nobody around when we wanted to check out. Very, very difficult to find. I can't imagine finding this place in the dark when there is no one out to give directions.
Execellent view and the food at the resturant was very good. The beds where extremely uncomfortable (Hard!)
Spacious, nice room Walking distance to main station is kind of far
Room and cleanliness TV channels (not many international channels)
The air conditioning in my room was non functional
Front desk staff helpful. Breakfast included in price was excellent. A comfortable place to 'land' at the end of a long day of travel.
Size of room and staff helpfulness. They upgraded our room because it was our honeymoon which was nice The parking is a disaster. It is off site and you have to pay 18 euro for the privelage. They have free parking out front but you can never get a spot so beware
We were driving and found the location was very convenient and the parking was very useful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts were fabulous but it would be great to get expresso as part of the breakfast and not an extra charge.
very modern and fresh rooms. staff were helpful, letting me use their computer after my wallet was stolen on the Cinque Terre (we didn't have a laptop to use the internet in the room) The address in the hotel information didn't have the number, so even with the tom-tom, finding the hotel in the one way system was a bit hard
Location was great. Rooms had all the necessities. Limited free parking out front, beds were hard (as were found in most of Italy though)
Modern and clean hotel, good location close to the main shopping and restaruant streets. Staff were nice and friendly and very helpful in locating a dostor for me. Beds were quite firm, would have liked a softer bed
Nothing Bath room
Staff was helpfull..room are not very modern but very clean and not small.it has a big balcony with a great view. staff is helpfull but cannot speak good english.
The hotel staff were awesome, the view was incredible and the restaurant was very good!
On a 3 week November trip through Italy we were delighted with this Cinque Terra hotel and surprised to find a huge patio right off our room providing a 180 degreee panorama of the sea. Our hosts Monica and Roberta were warm and welcoming and both went out of their way to make our stay pleasant, including driving us uphill from the nearby Riomaggiore train station since we had missed the daily 6:30pm bus and had no car. Internet connection was not available in the room, but we had fine connection in the dining room whenever needed.
The owners were fantastic! Even the people we were directed to have breakfast at, were fantastic! We were driven to a carpark and driven back to the hotel. We showed up and were offered a free upgrade to our rooms (originally supposed to have 1 room for 4 people, gave us 2 double rooms for the same price). The rooms were the largest we've ever stayed in while traveling through Europe. Beds were very comfortable. Perfect location to catch a train if you're traveling the Cinque Terre or any of the small villages nearby. Originally were only supposed to stay 1 night in La Spezia at Casa Dane but stayed an extra night because of the location and hospitality. Definitely recommend this hotel! We were a little confused when we arrived because there was no one at the hotel. We didn't know that we were supposed to call before arrival and then they would meet us at the hotel. All in all, probably our fault and the way things work there... just a bit confusing.
nice bathroom, the owner was nice when we saw her! no one there when we arrived, another guest answered the door! breakfast in a cafe in town,(so had to leave the room etc) , just one coffee & croissant- for 85 euros!
The room was very comfortable, fantastic views, good breakfast, it would have been excellent if there was wifi as website said. quite a walk up the hill to the hotel but worth it for the great views - you can catch the bus anyway if it bothers you to walk with luggage. This hotel advertises that it has internet throughout the hotel. There is no internet at all, not even a workstation - false advertising! I especially booked this hotel at higher price as needed internet.
The hotel lobby, restaurant, conference rooms and rooftop garden were all first class. The room was okay - could use updating. Simple, but clean.
We stayed at this hotel due to my husband having a medical incident while on vacation in the Cinque Terre. He was in hospital in La Spezia and this hotel is well located near the hospital and also overlooking the harbout. When my husband was discharged from hospital, we stayed in a junior suite that was perfect for our needs. The staff were very obliging in helping us to have accessibility in an older building. As well there is a good breakfast included on the lobby level and a restaurant off the 1st floor. We found the restaurant to be lovely because it has an outdoor terrace overlooking the harbour; however, the menu is essentially the same everyday with limited buffet options. That is where we could see some room for growth.
friendly and helpful reception staff, very good location of the hotel air condition did not work, insufficient sound isolation from the neighbor room, bathroom would need some small repairs, some of food at the breakfest was not fresh
Friendly and helpful reception staff. Our room had a very nice view to the harbour. Announced refurbishing of the hotel, was very clearly recognizable. Restaurant only served a barbeque buffet during our stay in August.
Hotel has a convenient location, close to where you might like to board a ferry to view the C.T. Reception staff were very helpful. We asked for a room with a view and a quiet room and we received a quiet room with a lovely view. With adding these into bookings.com when you are making a hotel booking.
it was a clean and well run hotel with very friendly and helpful staff breakfast could have been better
Reception staff were especially helpful Bar did not open until 6.30 p.m., and even then it was only service in the main reception area.
unfortunately I would find anyting positive to comment on at this hotel from our experience. As a hotel broker I see many hotels and the service and price of this hotel is far from satisfactory. Our room was not as described, we experienced insects in the room, the room was not clean and in need of repair of basic utilities. The service from the staff was far from satisfactory, rude and unhelpfull. I would struggle to recomend this hotel to any traveller. see comments above
Well located & good view from room
Location was good for traveling by car Room seemed outdated.
Location close to town and the port Lack of available parking and high cost of parking.
Conveniently in the main street but not very noisy; compact but too light in the morning! Only one chair but two occupants; going up stairs for bathroom; no extra pillow and no-one on site for managment. It's a hotel but a rented room with en suite.
Room was comfortable. Good internet. Room was up on a slope in a separate building, a few hundred steps from the reception and the published location of the hotel. Tough if you got a fair amount of baggage.
The room is unique. It gave us a feeling of being in a luxurious tree house. The free online connection is great. Just a suggestion that the guests who need parking should be informed that no car is allowed in town after 7 p.m., and guests should arrive before then to be able to get the luggages by car to the L'Ancore.
Facilities were good. Good decor. Well equipped A sun umbrella was not fixed despite our request
Goog location, immaculate room and bathroom all new and clean
Clean room, nice decor, little refrigerator was very convenient, great little perks like muffins/juice and spumanti. Steep hill up via Colombo, but the hotel itself was very nice.
uniqness of the setting - old & historical setting with modern amenities
room design is good and comfortable, house owner is very nice and he has a very good restaurant with sea view.
We had a great stay at L'Ancora. The room was really clean with modern decor. It was a large room for europe as well. It looked like it had been recently remodeled. It's more of a condo. You pick up the keys at an office down the street and then you go to the unit so don't expect to be able to call the front desk for service because there isn't one. If you need something, they will definately get it for you, it may just take a little while. If steep hills and stairs are a challenge for you, I would probably recommend staying at another hotel. We really enjoyed our stay at L'Ancora.
The hotel was easy to locate after arriving by train. It was beautifully presented, clean and spacious. The owner/manager was very helpful with any queries. It is just a short walk to the harbour and train station and to the start of the walk to the other 4 villages. I cannot complain about anything, it was perfect for us, sure there was a hill to walk up with a suitcase etc but if your village is built into a hill then you must expect to walk up one. It was great.
nice location on main street of riomagiorre. hotel staff was friendly and allowed us to leave our luggage there. clean room.
The purpose of our stay here - easy access to Cinque de Terre - was fully served. The hotel was well situated, and the staff helpful. the breakfast was very nice - wide variety. There was some ambiguity about what was included in the breakfast, and what one had to pay extra for, if anything.
location is great staff was no smile
The building is very old, and they have kept many of the original features. My room was huge with ancient exposed beams, but a very modern bathroom. The staff are most helpful, and happy to help organise tours etc. I had an injury and they were very helpful in getting medical treatment and ensuring I got any assistance I needed.
The location next to the train station is ideal as a base for travel to Cinque Terre The pillows were so soft and that makes sleeping uncomfortable.
close proximity to train station limited english of check in staff limited english tv channels no one told us there was an internet computer that we could use
Had wonderful view from our 3rd floor window. The staff most helpful with recommendations for good restaurants and maps. Proximity to railway station was excellent. The shower was a bit small.
Good breakfast facilities; nice staff Chipped cups; poor lift service ground floor button not working
Easy access to the station and a good breakfast Limited tv options
It was ideally located for train trips to Cinque Terre. Just what we wanted. Friendly staff, and very helpful. Breakfast was good. There needs to be a major upgrade of WiFi service. It was very poor, and very, very expensive! Not what the modern traveller expects. I wasted many Euro waiting for connections, service etc.
The closeness to the Station. Would be a pleasant improvement if Staff smiled occasionally. The younger aged staff were pleasant whereas the older ones were quite grumpy.
Great Location, Just 1 min after walking out the tunnel from train Nice staff who wrote email to us 1 day before arrival to confirm our arrival time Room was well decorated with free hot water, coffee and tea inside. not yet find of any
The rooms were new, clean, and bright (including the bathrooms). The location was great! (Right at the bottom of a hilly street in Riomaggiore.) Free wi-fi. Lots of information about transportation and local food/shopping available. This is a guesthouse, not a hotel. We were lucky to find the owner coincidentally on our way in, otherwise it might have been difficult.
Friendly, helpful staff. Room was very large and nicely decorated. Breakfast was excellent - both in quality and variety. Stairs and small showers, but this is true at all hotels in Italy.
Don't have the reception open 24 hours. We arrive at the hotel around midnight and everything was closed, after insisting in ring the bell, a man responsible for the hotel appeared and was really unpolite with us just beacause we were arriving at that time. In the moment of check out, at 7:30 am, once more, there was no one at the reception.. We had a train to catch and had to leave the hotel without talk to anybody, had to leave a message in a piece of paper telling them to charge our credit card.
Modern room with good facilities. Large number of very steep stairs to get to room. Bathroom very narrow and cramped. Hotel is opposite church belltower!
Happy and informative reception staff walk from station carrying heavy luggage!
The staff were wonderful, the position was great, and there was plenty for breakfast,as well the room was cleaned every day with fresh towells. The walk up the hill to the hotel was steep, but it was much better going down!!
Staff very friendly and helpful. Air conditioning (heating) was on when we arrived. Veery clean. There's no access to the village by car after 19:00. We did not know this and therefore had to drag our suitcases downhill 100 mtetres. Also had to carry suitcases up narrow staircase. Parking the car in the hotel's garage was ludicrously difficult
easy to find
Central location, not far from restaurants and the Via Del Amore Like much of Cinque Terre there was a lot of climbing involved to reach the hotel and even more to get to our room
The location A lot of stairs tour room near the top of a tall building
Good location, accommodation was fine. mould in the bathroom.
The location in relation to the train station was excellent. The breakfast was nice too. One of the staff members made us feel rushed at breakfast and barely smiled. This made us feel as though we were more of a burden than a valued paying guest.
good location not enough food choices for breakfast and quantaties not replenished quickly outside street noise so loud it was almost impossible to sleep at night bed very uncomfortable matress needed replacing noise from other rooms clearly audible
best feat was being right next to the main station, free internet also v.good and room ok too. For some who like having a nice breakfast though, forget about it. The most spartan I have ever experienced I'm afraid, really poor probably for lack of effort. For some who like having a nice breakfast though, forget about it. The hotel staff was very kind and informative. Our quad room was large and comfortable. The breakfast was good. This hotel was one of the most expensive on our trip - the same as our hotel in Venice. The close proximity to Cinque Terre makes the price fair.
The pizza place around the conner, but it had nothing to do with the hotel It was the worst hotel that we stayed at in all of Italy. We checked out as soon as we were able because of the condition on the hotel. Insulation was falling out of the ceiling, paper thin walls, the beds were like sleeping on cots, and no matter what room you were in you could hear the traiffic from the street below.
the access to city, port, transport and shopping was wonderful.
This hotel is right across the street from the main hotel which is good if you're passing through. Shower was itty bitty!
Hotel Mary was fantastic! about 2min walk from the station ( acess to cinqa terre). Staff were friendly. Room was large, clean and comfortable!
the air conditioning the location was less than what we expected, but not terrible
It was close to the station, the staff were very helpful and we stayed in far worse 3 star hotels this trip.
The hotel was very conveniently situated for visiting La Spezia and the Cinque Terra as it is directly across from the train station. There are many shops and restaurants close by and internet access is available either at the hotel or just down the road. The hotel staff were very friendly and English was understood. The continental breakfast was excellent. I was travelling on my own and felt safe and secure staying at the hotel and coming and going from the hotel. I have no hesitations at all about recommending the Hotel Mary.
