Mattress was entirely worn out. I stayed two nights and the first night I sunk into the worn out matress. Next day I way moved without any hassle. Mattress. Hotel is frequented by lots of traffic obviously by location - across street from kings dominion. Sink was cracked. Stains on pillow case. I wish I would have stayed in Ashland and made a 10 minute commute.
Small room. Lights didn't work. A/C didn't work. Breakfast was limited to one thing. Wouldn't stay here again.
location. Beds were comfortable and good water pressure in the shower. room could have been cleaner. The outside of the rooms were dirty and the outside carpeting outside of room smelled like urine. Would not book here again
The staff that handled the breakfast was wonderful. Marsha took time out of her hustle and bustle to check on my wife and I. It was so incredibly genuine. She even gave us each a big hug and told us we need to come back and see her. We truly enjoyed our stay, but if everything had went wrong, we would still come back just to see Marsha! She is the quintessential representation of hospitality.
Spacious and clean rooms with courteous staff. Not even a musty smell like I had expected for the price I paid! It was perfect. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to leave so soon.
This hotel was very nice! The staff was very friendly and courteous. They were very nice to our children, even when our 4-year-old spilled some milk in the breakfast area. The pool was nice and even had a hot tub area. The breakfast was good with waffles, sausage, and eggs, plus the usual stuff, too. Everything seemed real nice and clean. This location was within walking distance to King's Dominion. They had a shuttle to King's Dominion if needed for only $10 per family for your entire visit, which was a lot less than the $15 per day parking that King's Dominion charges. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit King's Dominion. Well, what I didn't like doesn't really have anything to do with the hotel itself! Only 2 things come to mind. Parents need to supervise their children when making waffles in the breakfast area. Learning to cook is an important skill to acquire, however, it is not something that should be done in a hotel when there is a line of other people waiting to make their breakfast. Also, there were only 2 luggage carts in the entire hotel and they were both being "used" the morning of our check-out. (Or so I thought). As we were leaving, it was apparent that some lazy person did not feel compelled to return their cart to the correct location and left it in the parking lot.
Clean, spacious & comfy rooms with everything we needed. The staff was friendly and attentive. Not at all musty- like we expected for the price I paid. If I have to say something negative, I guess it'd be that the elevator was hot (even though the rest of the building was cool & comfortable)
Beds were pretty good and had lots of extra pillows. Loud mouth neighbors and their yappy dog. Hotels let dogs stay in hotels in 2016? Other than the neighbors it was pretty good.
Nice, clean, what we expected.

Location Bathroom was falling apart, the smelt terrible, and the walls had holes in them
The staff were friendly. The rooms were underwhelming. The hotel had some remodeling done; however, the rooms were still in bad shape. Also, the fire alarm went off at 2 pm d/t a customer burning popcorn in the microwave. Then, the alarm went off again at 10 pm by accident.
It was indicated that there was a indoor pool. That is the reason why I chose this hotel. The pool was being repair and out of order. If I had know this I would have chosen another hotel.
Very good breakfast, especially considering it is advertised as 'continental.' Fitness room was way too hot, and the treadmill was old and not working very well.
The location Breakfast was minimal. The sheets were stained. The proprietor did not have our room ready, we checked in at 6 pm, he asked if we wanted to check in, and said our room wasn't ready.
Excellent location. Easy to find. I needed to stay an extra night and they gave me a little discount off the price. Very nice of them. Friendly staff. Bed was good. Place was very quiet. Pillows were not very good. Room could have been a little cleaner.
FOUND HAIR IN THE BED SHEETS. NEED TO UPGRADE THEIR ROOM PREP

I liked the friendly service I didnt like the poor cleaning of my room
That I could not find bugs The shower would not drain . We also kept smelling a sewage smell coming from the bathroom. Bed had NO support. Room was just dirty and had weird smell . The comforter had cigarette burn holes in it. Don't even get me started about the free "breakfast " my daughter and myself went down more than an hr before it was supposed to end and there was really nothing to be found. I kept looking for someone at the desk and no one to be found there either. Finally after 25 min. I spotted a women behind that counter in a back office more in less hiding. I asked if we could have milk for our ceral ( thought that was a simple request) oh yeah btw really no English spoken here any way waited and waited for milk which was a word she understood and NEVER got it.
We had the grandkids stay with us and they had a great time. Between the free wi-fi service, the pool, and wide variety on the breakfast bar, they didn't want to go back home. The hotel was very busy, because of a dance competition going on, but it was still very quiet even with tons of teens around. We will definately go back to stay!
Chose this hotel after our visit to Kings Domion. We got a suite that exceeding my expectations. We had two beds and a pull out couch which accomidated my family of 5.5 very well. We even had 2 seperate TVs. Hotel was very clean and beautiful. It was close to Kings Dominon and easy to find. There were also several food places within walking distance. The gas station was located right in front of the hotel and we were about .5 miles from I95. I would recommend this hotel if quality is a biggie for your family.
My family of 4 (including 20 and 22 year old children) drove from CT to Hilton Head, SC last summer and needed a place to stop and spend the night along the way. This hotel was a perfect spot for that. Easy on/off the highway, clean room, good continental breakfast and dining options for dinner the evening we arrived right nearby. Would stay there again if we ever find ourselves along that stretch of the highway.
Read these reviews, and chose this hotel.. Better than expected!! Great hotel, clean hotel, great staff, great location to theme park!!!! Would love to stay here again!!!!
My family and I chose Holiday Inn Express after reading positive reviews from others and because we wanted accommodations that were close to Kings Dominion. We were very impressed with the friendly staff and overall cleanliness, and we have no complaints to offer. Would recommend this hotel to others!
The hotel was very convenient on our way to Virginia Beach. It was clean, comfortable and there was a free breakfast. Breakfast could have been better, but it was adequate. They ran out of newspapers early on, too. Overall, it was a fine place to stay for one night - I would recommend it.
At first I was skeptical because of some previous reviews, but the location won out. The hotel was great! Clean, friendly staff and easy access to I-95. There are several restaurants nearby. We will use this hotel again!
The friendliness and welcoming staff was wonderful. The pool and hot tub was exceptional. They have a no diving policy but did allow for my son to jump from the side as kids always want to do. The room as standard and not anything exceptional that I would expect from a newer Holiday Inn property. Both bed matresses were hard and the beds sit lower to the floor than other hotels we frequent and not comfortable to either or my son. The full hot breakfast buffet was frozen biscuits, preformed eggs, sausage gravy, and sausage patties, cereal, pancake maker and had no fruit except for bananas. Would I go back??? Yes, but I would try a Suite in hopes of a better bed. Oh, and go out for breakfast.
I loved the stay at the Holiday Inn Express Suites North. They were spacious, clean, and very nicely furnished. The hotel staff was very friendly and will to help out in anyway that they could. Even giving directions to a great restaurant! The hotel was very quiet. You couldn't hear a soul in the rooms next door. You feel as if you are the only one on the floor!! Even though it is near the interstate, you can't hear anything from the street around you. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I will definitely be staying there again.
Tried to reserve two rooms online and had a problem with one of the rooms. Called hotel and confirmed the online reservation (2 queens non-smoking) and reserved the other room (2 queens with sleeper sofa, non-smoking) via telephone with reservation clerk. Received confirmation number for online booking and confirmation number from reservation clerk. Arrived at hotel with my sisters and their families and was told that I reserved 1 King bed with sleeper sofa and 2 queens non-smoking. I was also told that the confirmation that was given to me was for 1 King bed. I told the front desk clerk and the assistant hotel manager that I would not have reserved 1 King bed based on the adults that had to share that room. The non-smoking room with 2 queen beds smelled like an ash tray. Needless to say, the smell did not help my neice's asthma any. The desk clerk sprayed the room with air freshner and took the can back to the front desk. She stated that she could not leave the can in the room because they only had one (small) can. The room with the 1 King bed had 4 small full-size pillows with no pillow cases. I had to call front desk for pillow cases. There also were no pillows for the sleeper sofa. One cot was offered because that was all that could fit in the room. The hotel was booked and no other room could be offered, nor any type of discount or apology. I was told that it was no way that they could look up the person's name that made my reservations. What could have been a wonderful trip was ruined behind the hotel reservations. Never again!
We were very disappointed in the quality of hotels around Kings Dominion. We stopped at many before finding this great hotel. We do not write reviews but felt we had to start with this one. \n \nWe did not use the gym or pool but they looked very nice. The room was fresh and very pleasant. The bed was comfortable and the service was friendly. Compared to the other hotels in this area, this hotel was a giant leap above. \n \nBen and Julie
The only good thing about this place is its location. . The main thing is we booked a room with a hot tub in it , the pic showed a hot tub in it ,when we got the there they said they don't have any rooms like that and they must be old pics online . Room is so dirty it is disgusting!! Bed is hard as a rock
It was not clean and the beds sucked. My wife and I went out and bought sheets we where to scared to sleep on the ones provided. Very old and out dated. We will never visit there again even if it was free
Clean, a/c worked well.
This was the filthiest hotel room I was ever in. The rug was so filthy, pee stains, excrement stains that I did not take off my shoes and washed my dog's paws before letting him back in the car. The man's wife (owner) is the only one who does the cleaning and it is impossible for her to clean all the rooms adequately. I had to buy cleaning supplies and clean it myself. Very nice people, but absolutely disgusting.
It has an awesome location (right next to Kings Dominion!). The beds were very comfortable, and the free KD shuttle is a plus! I can't think of anything that bothered us.
Close to the park Smelled like cigarettes
I like the cost of hotel, I like that everything is in close by. Kings dominion is literally across from hotel. Hotel has a clean poll. Shuttle bus to park. U got 7 eleven next door, burger king across street., dennys, truck stop. Then 6 miles away it's nothing but restaurant, etc. U gotta try it That I couldn't stay longer, I guess I gotta get some more $
wonderful place to stay! clean, comfortable, friendly staff, spacious rooms - be sure to try Anna's Pizza in the shopping center behind the hotel - excellent pasta!
Room looked just like the pictures online, no surprises. No
Proximity to highway , king sized beds Could upgrade breakfast with omelet type egg presentation .
ROOM WAS CLEAN. BATHROOM WAS UP TO DATE. LOCATION FROM 295 WASPERFECT BREAKFAST WAS OK. NOT AS GOOD AS SOME HAMPTON INNS THAT WE'VE BEEN TOO. NO NEWSPAPER OFFERED.
we love staying at this hotel. the room are always neat and clean. the complimentary breakfast are always great and have a nice variety of food
This hotel was very nice and clean. They provided free internet and free breakfasts. The only thing that could've been fixed that wasn't was the pool. It was closed.
the pleasant and curteous staff, hotel was very clean and breakfast was excellent and always replenished.
It was convenient to Route 95, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was plentiful and well done. The room had a horrible odor, had to ask for febreeze and something to spray on the carpet. The air conditioner didn't work as it should have leaving the room very humid and smelly.
Location, after long day at Kings Dominion, just down the road They don't keep the A/C on in the rooms when they are not occupied, so prepare to walk into a sauna and the A/C is sub par, took nearly two hours to cool the room down, and it was 1130pm when I checked in. I reserved two non smoking rooms, upon check in, one room smelled like an ash tray. The front desk was nice and gave me another set of joining non smoking rooms, again one of them smelled like cigarettes. Finally on the third try, successfully found two joining non smoking rooms.
got the job done AC was loud
helpfulness of staff no maid service and had to reset my room keys everyday
Nothing The first thing I noticed was the black mold in the room, secondly the used bar of soap in the shower thirdly three very thin and small pillows on a king size bed. There was exposed electrical above the sink. My husband and I woke up with sore throats and couldn't breath. The bed was itchy and I felt like something was crawling on me all night. Not to mention the bed was hard as a rock.
The location was right off the highway and surrounded by restaurants. The staff was friendly. We had no towels and no TV remote when we checked in. The beds are small (fulls, not doubles) and not very comfortable.
Friendly staff No ice machine on 2nd floor Only 2 towels in room No tv Ceiling caving in
When me and my fiance got in the room, it smelled like a cat had peed in the room. The bathroom walls were disgusting as well as the toilet. The bed was very uncomfortable. No trashcan in the room. Lights did not work. It was a terrible stay. Won't stay there again.
There was crazy traffic on 95 on our way to the outer banks and it was really late. We got off at the nearest exit and got a room there through Kayak. The desk clerk said this was not true and got a little rude with my husband, for no particular reason but we just wanted a room, so we ignored it. The room was pretty clean and good enough to stay in for one night when we were tired. The towels were tiny and about as rough as 80 grit sandpaper. It's fine for a night, if you're really tired but wouldn't be my choice for anything beyond that. The price was cheap, which was good since we had already paid for our stay in OBX too.
Price and location Border around base of wall falling off and grossly dirty, dead smashed bugs on walls, could barely get in bathroom as it was so small you had to straddle toilet to get door closed again, almost fell in shower bc floor was so slick, and towels were thin and very small (not much bigger than hand towel), beds were old and pretty firm, but they were on rolling frames so they didn't stay against wall - I recommend only staying here in complete desperation if no where else is available. Oh!, they also tried to charge us more than what "booking.com" and said would be charged, I had to "make" them honor the correct price and the guy obviously was irritated by this and gave me only 1 room key.
