The deepest lake (Wastwater) and the mountain of Scafell Pike are both within walking distance.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice room, everything we needed, nice ensuite. Good that we could get packed lunches made up to go hiking - even using my wife's dairy-free margarine (brought with us) for hers due to an allergy - as there aren't many shops in this remote corner of the Lakes. Nice to have 2 different pubs with different menus on hand. Obviously as both parts are pubs, and we were there on a bank holiday weekend, it was noisy until about 11pm, but this wasn't a problem for us, and the staff must have been incredibly effective at telling people to shut up/go away after that as it was quiet for sleeping. Beautiful part of the world in this remote and scenic valley, with good access for climbing Scafell Pike and many others.
Cons: Minor, but it would have been good to have a towel rail to hang damp towels - you can see that the back of the pine door was going a bit mouldy from the damp seeping in below the hooks there - or varnish/oil the bathroom door so water can't seep in!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place to stay. Fantastic food and craft beers downstairs, then a comfy room (with amazing shower) upstairs. All in the peace and quiet of a great, fairly unfrequented corner of the Lakes
Cons: Nothing!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The room and bed very comfortable. The breakfast lovely. The restaurant in the Hotel and Inn both amazing! The micro brewery an added extra and we enjoyed trying all the beers!! Location perfect for walking.
Cons: There really wasn’t anything negative.
7.9 Good
Pros: It was warm and the bed was comfy. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the cooked breakfast was very nice. The bar was excellent with a great choice of beer made on the premises, the food was great and wine was sensibly priced. There was free live music in the bar which we enjoyed. The hotel is in a great location for exploring Wasdale and Eskdale.
Cons: The carpet underneath the bed needed vacuuming
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent for our visit
Cons: Internet was hit and miss but just what you would expect with the location
7.5 Good
Pros: Food and location
Cons: Confusing set up

Pros: All was good. The place was lovely and kids enjoyed bunk beds and full English in the morning. Room was a nice size and plenty of space in the bedroom which made it easier to get the kids ready for the day.

Pros: Claen and respected
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: The rooms were spotless.
Cons: There aren’t enough toilets for people using shared dormitories.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The setting of the hostel and its many seating areas inside and out,The outdoor lighting at night and its warmth on return from hiking,The drying room is a welcome facility and much used.Lots of board games and separate recreational areas to accommodate the diversity of visitors in age and activity levels. It is a busy but quiet place even in October.
Cons: Had trouble travelling to the hostel as the most direct route is not always the best at night time in terms of signage and very narrow approach roads,Conversation with other guests indicated that this was a common experience, some access routes are just one small car width, lots of windy bumpy roads, charming in day time ,unnerving in the dark. A warning would allow the guests to take a longer but better route (for most of way) for first trip.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hostel is absolutely incredible. The beds are soooooo comfy and warm. It's in a beautiful location, close to scafell, scafell pike, good pubs & a wee shop. The one thing that made our experience here memorable is the staff. A massive thanks for being so helpful, friendly and making us feel welcome. The coffee and vegan full English is good and cheap too!

6.3 Good
Pros: Fun to be near a castle. Quite a bit to do in the grounds. The discounts for food in the village were appreciated.
Cons: It was very expensive and there were no concessions to any sort of luxury. No curtains just horrible tatty vertical blinds which didn’t block the light. Curtain rail was there it would have been easy to put some up. Chair was worn and had stuffing poking out.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything - it was perfect for a reasonably priced overnight stay. We booked a family room in the hay loft and it was sooo comfy! Separate small kitchen, bathroom and room to sleep 4 in a large open plan room with an internal divider for a little bedtime privacy. Freshly cooked breakfast in the morning and a wander round the grounds after everyone had left - what more could you want!
Cons: Would have liked to look around the castle but it didn’t open until 12:00 so we didn’t have time on this trip.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Disappointed with house keeping. Bins in bedroom & bathroom not emptied during stay. Cups not washed or replaced.

Pros: Price
Cons: We went with our friends (7 people in total) to their pub for a meal. The food was good but we waited for our meal around one hour. It was definitely too long.

Pros: The staff were really friendly and accommodating- we arrived very late due to an accident on the motorway and they arranged for us to eat at the bar even though the kitchen was closing. Great food too and really great location for a base for walking in the area.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing, well cooked, and excellent choice. Area was a bit quiet, but possibly the time of year. Hotel was lovely, staff very friendly, and fellow guests were very helpful as well. Beach was extremely close (just across the road). The whole area was very clean. I would stay here again, but possibly earlier in the year. We chose this hotel as it was near the event we were attending. Definitely value for money.
Cons: Can't fault the hotel at all. The area was just too quiet for us. Would still stay here again, now I know I need to be prepared for a bit of travelling.
7.5 Good
Pros: Hotel is clean and very friendly, excellent breakfast good central place for visiting around the lakes. Good value for money.
Cons: On first entering the room it smelt a bit like dogs (even though I have 2 small dogs) but after a spray with air freshener it wasn't a problem. Room was a little on the small side but ok. No draws to put clothes in.

Pros: A family run business in a nice village location with very few tourists around. A very reasonable price, and an ice cream parlour with products from their own dairy. We've recommended it to others.
Cons: Creaking floor boards but that goes with being in England
