Murray Hotel - Silver City - Building

8.3 Excellent (284 reviews)

With a stay at Murray Hotel in Silver City, you'll be a 1-minute walk from Silver City Museum and 14 minutes by foot from Western New Mexico University. Featured amenities include express check-in, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and a 24-hour front desk.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent. The beds comfortable and the continental breakfast was substantial!
Cons: The carpets in rooms and elevator were very worn. Our room had no chair (most likely since there was no space for It). It's always nice to have one.
4.2 Okay
Pros: The lady who served the continental breakfast was very hospitable and friendly. The housekeeping staff was also very nice.
Cons: There was no hot water and staff didn’t seem to care; a/c was unbearably loud; elevator was old and in ill repair; no a/c in lobby and common areas; hospitality was totally lacking at front desk; blinds were totally ineffective and the sun poured in the room at 7:00 am.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, needs better parking for the hotel. Rooms are dated, for being as old as the building is everything was great. Motel was built in the 30's was shut down in the early 80 reopened around 2013. under going renovations. Great Motel.
Cons: no parking for the hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel, very comfortable, great staff, loved the historical character.
Cons: I liked everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean. Very nice people. We will go back.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I loved the location in the heart of the old town. The exterior of the building showed off the art deco design. The bed was comfortable and the maid service fast, efficient and acceptable. The room where breakfast was served was of a good design with adequate space to stretch out and with bathrooms nearby, a TV with news on but not turned up too loud so it did not interrupt conversation.
Cons: The room had a window but because of the AC unit installed there, no view. No refrigerator in the room. The TV was old school (not flat screened). The hot water in shower took a long time to reach you, almost 3.5 minutes, wasted a lot of water waiting. The elevator smelled bad inside and needed refurbishing. It also broke while we were there so had to use the stairs to carry out our luggage when we checked out. The breakfast was nothing interesting and they provided no oil for waffle iron so it kept sticking. We finally got smart and melted butter to solve the problem. The interior rooms were really basic as was the lobby, loosing the chance to show off art deco design of the period.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There were no fluffy eggs, continental is not breakfast. Maybe a 10% coupon to a choice of breakfast restaurants would be great. Say why is town shut down on Monday?
Cons: Full breakfast
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Downtown. Flavor of the area.
Cons: No. Older as it is nearly 100 years old. Has great charm.
7.1 Good
Pros: The Hotel, which has been recently restored is an assemblance of art decco mixed with contemporary style. The front staff had mixed results with its friendliness. Upon arrival, the front desk had a lady who was more consumed with her own activities as opposed to helping us out.:( The other working staff maids, was very helpful and cordial. The room was small and cramped: not much room to maneuver around and they still had TVs from the 80s inside with no cable or Satellite service available. The bath was small. The place was quiet( for the most part). The continental breakfast was average at best and needed cleaning. Also there was shoddy construction done on this building there was an extremely hot water pipe that was covered by one ply of sheetrock inside of the breakfast room which could become a real hazard and needs to be properly addressed. The location is fantastic. However, this Hotel is extremely over priced and shouldn't be charging more than $80.00 per night based on its amenities and comfort level. I would give it a 65 based out of 100.
Cons: Front staff could've been nicer and for the stark prices charged a major grade in food should be invested or their prices dropped. This place only merits an $80.00 charge per night at best.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location with restaurants, museums and shops within easy walking distance.
Cons: Rooms were a little small but it is an historic building so that's to be expected.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location. Bed was comfortable and A/C worked well
Cons: Hot water took at least 5 minutes to get going. Carpet was stained in room and even worse in breakfast room. Staff wasn't overky friendly. Gnats coming out of our sink drain!
7.1 Good
Pros: Nice breakfast
Cons: Parking was on the street.

Pros: The room was actually like a small apartment. Very spacious! The bed was so comfortable. Staff were very hospitable.
Cons: The only thing that was off putting was the smell in the room but I think that was more about the standing ac unit. Perhaps it needed to be cleaned. Other than that the room was perfect.

Pros: Great location, gracious accommodating staff, quaint old western vibe, great art work on the walls, nice big TV that worked with our Apple TV box. Comfy king size bed, spacious suite nice kitchenette, huge bathroom.
Cons: The room was really hot and the air conditioner kept shutting off during the night so it was difficult to sleep. The controller for the air was unresponsive. No elevators.
6.0 Good
Pros: Charm, history, beauty location and character - has the potential to be a very good place to stay . . . but that mattress!! Ugh!!
Cons: The only hotel bed I've ever experienced that was WORSE was in a Mexican flophouse! AWFUL - TERRIBLE!! Wife and I were only able to sleep by laying crosswise across the mattress. She thought maybe it was original to the 1885 origins of the bldg!!

There was a fridge & microwave which is nice. They also provide 2 types of bar soap, body wash, shampoo & conditioner. The room could use some updating. Neither of the windows had screens. 9.6 Excellent
Pros: Sonia the front desk Clark was very friendly N/a
Cons: None
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful, flexible staff; very clean; good TV; quiet; pet friendly, and lots of trails so I could walk my dogs easily right from the hotel
Cons: No pool or hot tub. Staff overslept so the 6am breakfast didn't really begin until nearly 8:30.
6.3 Good
Pros: Price was ok and location was good.
Cons: The only staff person on site when we arrived had such a strong accent I could not understand her. She did not know what to do with my reservation and just handed me a room key and said I would have to talk to the other lady later. No one else ever showed up but someone did communicate with her to get my ID and credit card. AC was not working well. Took about 4 hours for the room to cool off. Never could get the TV to work. Didn't bother to call her because I could not understand her. She was also the only one there in the morning. Breakfast offering was pitiful and waffle maker was not on. I will not stay there again!
7.9 Good
Pros: The expense was our primary concern. Based on other reviews, we went expecting the worst and hoping for the best. Our requests were honored (double rinsed sheets for skin issues) and shower diverter repair. Room 117, 07/14-07/19/19. I would stay here again based on this experience. If you are super-picky and find fault with everything you will not be happy at this motel no matter the price. If you can see past the small stuff for a value stay then this motel should meet your needs. Ultimately, the microwave and refrigerator were the selling points over the downtown hotels and the higher-priced chains as we prefer these features over a pool or chain(name) recognition.
Cons: Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. We did purchase a fan to help circulate the air-conditioning as the corner of the room (my side of the bed) was brutally hot. I would suggest being less liberal with the scent stuff although opening the window for a bit helped clear the scent. There is definitely room for improvement but with some quality workers and a solid plan this place has a chance. I would recommend the owner spend at least one night in each room to get a real-feel of what the customers experience (the devil is in the details) & at the very least, have the staff wear a motel name badge or let guests know who those three people you see around the property are. They are an important part of your success. One last suggestion would be for a change in how phone interaction takes place. When a caller asks for you to verify the business they are calling, refrain from asking the caller to identify themselves first. You are a business and should be happy to tell the caller who they called. "Hello, Gila Mountain Inn, this is ________. How may I help you?"
5.8 Okay
Pros: Cost, easy to find.
Cons: No coffee or tissues in room. One room that we were checked into hadn't been cleaned.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff was only one person but she was really nice
Cons: It was old and worn out. Hardly anyone was staying there. Far from town.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Bed was hard, WiFi never worked, shower was hard to maintain temperature. Staff tried as hard as they could. Rebooked at another motel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location, cost, clean, had storage for our mountain bikes, so we didn’t have to take up room space with them.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Only the fact that I could book it on line
Cons: Everything but the check in experience
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Counter was very friendly
