Pros:I rented a lower range car - an Opel astra. The car was really nice - lots of tech, comfortable, and more than enough for 4 people. We took the car from Zagreb, to the parks, down the coast all the way to Dubrovnik and back to Zagreb. Really outstanding my car. Rental car is a great way to travel croatia if you have time
Cons:The experience at their office felt like they were trying to get me for every penny. they pressured me hard to upgrade for a bunch of extra stuff i didn’t need. Even without the upgrade the price at their office was hundreds more than the “total price” through kayak which was a shock. They (I thought) casually asked about my travel plan and I mentioned we were going to Dubrovnik. The reason they asked was to tack on an “International fee” which is a sheet of paper for ~40 euro fee because we drove through (15 minutes) Bosnia to get to Dubrovnik... didn’t see one person get asked for this so I wouldn’t share my itinerary with them if I did it again. I felt that they were not interested in my trip or helping me, only in increasing their sales.

Pros:the staff was very friendly and helpful--especially in Zagreb Airport
Cons:the GPS system stopped working at some point and then came on again the next time I turned on the car. this was annoying, as I needed it when it wasn't working. the signage in Ljubljana airport -- e.g. where to return rental cars -- is not good and should definitely be improved
Easy pickup, and car worked perfectly
Pros:The car was almost brand new, very nice and clean, and drove well. We were able to pick our car up in one location and drop it off at another.
Cons:When we arrived to collect the car we were told we had to pay extra for insurance, petrol, tax and other things. These costs came to €170 more than we were quoted when we booked. I am not sure if this is the fault of Sixt or Kayak. We were then told we had to put a large deposit down of €1300; I was expecting to have to register a credit card on the system in case of a problem, but we did not have the money in our bank accounts to pay this. Eventually we moved money around and managed it, but we have yet to see this money returned to us.

Pros:Picked up in Zagreb airport, people were all very friendly and helpful. The car we got was clean and new.
Cons:After spending a long time checking-in at Zagreb airport, it took almost an hour to bring our car. It is a terrible pick-up area at the airport with nowhere sheltered to wait so we stood in the rain waiting for our car. Upon return 2 weeks later we were told there were additional charges because we left Croatia and entered Slovenia. We were not told about these charges before and they amounted to over 10 Euro per day of our rental (our price went from 250 Euro to 350 Euro). They also added on a charge for fuel -they force you into being part of their "get it full, bring it back empty" program but then charged 50 Euro fuel-up which is much more expensive than if we had done it ourselves. We were not told of this charge until returning the car, despite my questions during pick-up.
