The Wycliffe Hotel - Stockport - Building
1
9.1 Excellent (428 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Wycliffe Hotel in Stockport, you'll be 8.5 mi (13.8 km) from University of Manchester and 9.2 mi (14.8 km) from Manchester Museum. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were excellent and so friendly and helpful.
Cons: On the flight path from Manchester airport but didn’t keep us awake!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I only got a part breakfast as I came down for breakfast at 09.50. I don't recall being told it ended at 09.45 but to be fair I may have missed it.
Cons: The breakfast ended at 09.45 - the earliest I can ever remember! What was available as a buffet breakfast was very ordinary.
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice friendly staff, and pleasant hotel. Breakfast good, and served quickly. Plenty of tea bags, and nice to have a tea pot in the room. Plenty of parking onsite, and WiFi was reliable.
Cons: Road noise very obvious in Room 6, even when windows fully shut. Biggest issue with stay is the overly plastic mattress protector, that crinkles when you move in bed. - this makes the bed quite 'sweaty' and better mattress protectors are out there!
6.7 Good
Pros: I like the service from staff, helpful and polite.
Cons: Steak dinner was overpriced and served with only 8 chips!!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent food - both the evening meal and breakfast. Staff very friendly and accommodating and an asset to this hotel.
Cons: Room a bit noisy as close to the road and heard guests in room above leaving at around 4am which woke us up. However not a major problem, just a bit annoying.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I am using a crutch. Not only was there immediate assistance but reception offered (without being asked) to change my room to ground floor). The quality of food was outstanding, well above expectations for a city centre hotel, and clearly using seasonal food with a rapidly changing menu. A starter of hot smoked salmon with a cucumber sorbet was innovative, and deliciously subtle. Other patrons were overheard learning that a dish enjoyed on an earlier visit was no longer on menu because fresh cherries are now out season. I would return to this hotel just for the restaurant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast excellent, dinner even better The room was comfortable and welcoming
Cons: Absolutley nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the ease of parking to start with. The room was lovely (except I like a bath as opposed to a shower). The breakfast was lovely and the staff very friendly.
Cons: I prefer a bath rather than a shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All the staff were amazing and looked after us really well and the food in the restaurant was outstanding.
Cons: Couldn’t fault it.

Pros: Comfy beds choice of pillows clean room and bathroom, large shower. Cant open the windows which took a bit of getting used to but did not affect the quality of sleep due to aircon and ventilation in the bathroom.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was good, not too much choice but it stopped me over eating and then being stuffed all day. The bed was really comfortable and the room was a great size.
Cons: The water pressure in the shower dropped on both days to a trickle. This could have been down to the huge amount of building work going on around the hotel (the entire site was a cinema, bowling alley and nightclub) with offices and shops being built.
6.7 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Charging me for food off menu , which then they didn’t have , and was told I had to wait to get refund. The day staff are very helpful night staff are rude and very unhelpful

Pros: The room was nice and spacious with comfy beds. The shower was nice and modern. The room was clean. The access through the fire exit was ideal for getting in and out of. The room itself was quiet, despite it being based on the A6. The staff were very friendly, Being gluten free I couldn't participate of the continental breakfast but it was nicely set out. Good value for money and would stay here again.

5.4 Okay
Cons: It is more a 2* Completely over priced. Needs closing down and a complete update. Breakfast was very poor, would definitely not return.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was more than my expectations. Very good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The friendliness of all the staff. The food was of a very high quality from breakfast to the restaurant menu. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
7.1 Good
Cons: The iron was the worst I have ever used, the room was very cold and the breakfast was non existent! I got down at 09:30 and there was no hot food left, when I asked when more food will be out I was told not a chance will the chefs cook more food now breakfast stops at 10am. I literally had to sit and eat sausages and hash browns!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed overnight(Friday) to attend a conference on the Saturday. When I arrived it was pointed out to me, that my single room booked, was very close to a noisy celebration, taking place that night (Friday) and would I like to change for £10 to a quiet double room....I did and it was perfect, as was the meal in Luigis restaurant in the hotel and the breakfast the following morning. A truly lovely experience and should I be in the area again, wouldnt hesitate to use Alma Lodge. Thank you to everyone.
Cons: Everything was perfect. I liked everything!!!!!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good and the staff were very helpful with all that we asked of them. The parking was good and straight forward.
Cons: The only thing that could have been better was that there was a disco on or a wedding that we had nothing to do with and the music was load in our room but it did finish at midnight and after that there was no noise.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Ceanliness - spotless Excellent food Staff extremely friendly
Cons: Everything was very good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast exceeded our expectation. The first morning it was cooked to order as there were not many guests having breakfast. The second morning we helped ourselves. On both occasions the quality was excellent as were all the staff who served us. I was with a friend as we were having a ladies couple of days. The location is excellent for travelling around either by car, train or bus. We weren't going to the airport on this occasion but feel sure it would be a good location as its about 25 minutes by taxi to Manchester Airport. Well done The Alma Lodge. Will definitely stay there again if the situation arises.
Cons: There was nothing we can say that we didn't like about our stay.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff very pleasant and helpful. Room ambience. Breakfast very good, especially delicious eggs and sausages.
Cons: Minor items such as tv too low down, longer aerial lead needed to place it on higher unit; unable to move kettle to pour water without disconnecting the lead, which was a tight fit.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice comfortable hotel with easy access to the M60, with a very good breakfast that has everything you could want.
Cons: There was nothing in particular that I didn't like about the Alma Hotel. For the price it was very good.

6.0 Good
Pros: Very comfortable bed
Cons: Poor breakfast and need to go outside to access my room
6.7 Good
Pros: Stayed here for a wedding. The ceremony the food and the night do we're all fantastic. The suite was lovely and the bar staff were great.
Cons: The room we Stayed in was really outdated. The wallpaper was falling off in places the bathroom was like a timewarp back to the 70s. The shower was worse shower I've ever had, just dribbling out. My wife said she couldn't shampoo and condition her hair as the showers got no chance of washing it out. There was a draught all night through the window. Window was shut. Could've done with a table lamp. As the only light we had were the ceiling and walls lights which were way to bright and all seemed to be pointing at the bed. Quite disappointed with the room as for 110 pounds for the night we expected a much nicer room. Breakfast was not included because we booked thru booking.com. However my friends who booked direct to the hotel also paid 110 but breakfast was included. My other friend who was in the exact same room (double but paid for single) next to us paid just 80 pounds for her room, I can't see where you can justify an extra 30 pounds for us to stay there when there's no brekky involved. In the morning we were told check out time was 10.30am. Yet housekeeping were knocking on our door at 10 am. It's a shame really because as I've said before the wedding and all the day were fantastic but the rooms really do let the place down.
6.0 Good
Pros: The hotel was picked for locality more than anything else.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good but it was a shame that my wife wanted duck for dinner but there wasn’t any. However the staff were excellent & gave her a glass of wine on the house.
Cons: I had a bit of an accident sitting on one of your chairs in the small area outside f the rooms.(Our room number was 169). There is a slope towards the building & as I sat on one of the metal seats in the position that it was sited around a table it tipped over depositing me it the bushes behind which were full of thorns! On a matter of safety to your guests I think this needs looking at.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good food. Spotless rooms
Cons: Staircase to bedrooms needed a good clean.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice ambience , pleasant interior furnishings , clean and comfortable room , excellent breakfast , ample parking
Cons: Unfortunately we arrived around 15.00 hrs half an hour after the last time for the availability of food which was next available at 18.00 hrs
7.9 Good
Pros: Friendly staff who were accommodating when we asked for veggie breakfast (which was very tasty!) Very clean and comfortable. Lovely buildings and garden.
Cons: No WiFi password for some reason and no way to access it. Room was quite poorly ventilated so got very warm. Coffee was weak and for some reason although we both asked for the same thing one of us got a proper strong Americano and the other a weak pot of filter coffee.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was staying for a very sad occasion.... so ....
Cons: I enjoyed everything given the circumstances
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely good and helpful

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Oakfield Lodge Guest House in Stockport, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Etherow Country Park and Stockport Golf Club. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved the breakfast, of course I'm British born so most Americans don't eat baked beans for breakfast. Started with the pot of tea, OJ, fruit and cereal all available. Love English bacon much better that American. Location! I don't think it could be better if you are like us and don't drive in England. There is a bus stop outside the gate and the bus will take you to Stockport the nearest large town and Romiley I think is a little livelier than Marple. A 5 minute walk to the train station and trains to Manchester and the rest of England and to Derbyshire for good hiking. Walk up to Marple for buses to Hayfield. Check out Marple Bridge for good food.
Cons: The bed took a little getting used to but I think it was the "Princess and the Pea Syndrome" We have a king size memory foam mattress at home, so a little small.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything good

6.3 Good
Pros: Very comfortable, clean room with a nice view. Good selection of hot drinks in the room. Comfortable, clean bed.
Cons: Staff were okay but not extremely friendly or welcoming. Shared shower is not ideal and hot water cut off regularly.

5.0 Okay
Pros: Resturant area is nice but rooms need some money spending on them to warrant the price tag
Cons: Very steep stairs , no lift , hot water wasn’t consistent and no way to alter heating settings
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good welcome by staff, thorough explanation of facilities and helped us with luggage to our room. Room was clean with good shower in bathroom. Excellent breakfast choice.
Cons: Room was a bit on the small side, but not a real issue.
7.9 Good
Pros: Breakfast excellent. Location and parking just what we needed.
Cons: Maybe a lift when arriving even with small cases. I think that a coffee table and some sort of soft chair would have enhanced the room.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff. Nice room. Great food.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location near Heaton Chapel station and a big car park. Small single room but warm and comfortable with good lighting and a nice clean bathroom. Like the toiletries and the room was well cleaned and refreshed each day. Staff very friendly.
Cons: Lighting above mirror in bathroom not quite good enough for shaving. Room 108 could do with another double socket ideally.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The buffet breakfast, which was included in the price, was excellent. For us, visiting relatives, the location couldn't have been better. it was all very clean, and the staff were always very helpful and friendly.
Cons: The restaurant was very busy in the evenings, we had a long wait for a table if not booked. It was very noisy, until late, but then it was the weekend. Once a rowdy party near our table seemed to almost ended in a fight. But staff were very good, & apologetic.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location for rail and bus services in the Manchester/Stockport area. The staff were very helpful and their local knowledge a bonus. Superbly renovated Miller and Carter restaurant where they also serve the included Continental breakfast, but the full English breakfast is also worth the extra cost. Relaxing bar in the pub area apart from late in the evening! We stay there because our long-lost relatives are nearby.
Cons: Hotel rooms are dated and basic, although they will be updating all the bathrooms in April 2020. Wardrobe with shelf but no chest of drawers, no seats in the room. Rooms have updated lighting and have been redecorated, but old sticking windows.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything else
Cons: Wifi didn't work
6.0 Good
Pros: Lovely staff exceptional food
Cons: No offer of help with bag to 2nd floor up very steep staircase Shower very dirty

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Dirty, outdated, unwelcoming, entrance through the back door which was blocked by the van, main entrance/hall is blocked as converted into a bedroom. Small box of cereal with Asda own yoghurt could not be “breakfast included “.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Sizable room with Microwave, Kettle and a small fridge. Also a wash basin. The fridge is with fresh Milk, Yogurt. Along with continental breakfast. Good heating.
Cons: The mattress is awful. A large dip in the middle causing backache and very uncomfortable. Private room downstairs and lot of noise from creaky floor from upstairs. In room boiler making sound throughout night & dog barking in the night makes sleep terrible. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Although the room was dated it was huge with a big flat screen TV, dining table, waredrobe, dressing table and tea and coffee facilities, ironing board and iron. The room was clean and the shower was very powerful with shower gel provided. Breakfast was good, lovely restaurant with a cooked breakfast and lots to choose from from the buffet, cereals, crumpets, bagels, croissants, juices. You can also get omelettes made for a surcharge, was made to order on the Monday morning but buffet on the Tuesday both was very nice. There is a bar if you want a drink when you come back from a day out and loads of parking. Very friendly staff and good value for money. Just a 25 minute drive from Manchester city centre and shopping at the Trafford centre.

5.0 Okay
Pros: Comfort
Cons: The shower was broken so left the hotel for our flight a little smelly!
5.0 Okay
Pros: The restaurant and bar were good.
Cons: I stayed on the ground floor in a twin room but both beds were very uncomfortable, very soft especially in the middle. The water in the morning was also luke warm when having a shower and the room and corridor décor was very dated! The buffet breakfast wasn't great either.
7.5 Good
Pros: Reception staff very friendly and attentive Big but cozy room Shower Good size tv for the room Food from Indian restaurant
Cons: Leaking bath Leaking ceiling in hallway Mold on ceiling in bathroom No sign to say hot tub disconnected No shower curtain Keycard faulty (infuriating)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Spent one night at the hotel and very pleased with the standard of comfort in the room
Cons: The Marco Pierre white restaurant is a complete rip off. I ordered fish and chips which were expensive. I could have got nicer and cheaper from a local chippy. Plus I’m pretty sure the chips were frozen. Fish was served with skin on very off putting. There were also “eyes” in a couple of my three times cooked fries

7.5 Good
Pros: Friendly owner
Cons: Traffic noise
7.9 Good
Pros: Very close to work and very clean good shower Good pub just up the road that serves good food
Cons: Nothing
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Towels were clean and shower facilities good, Parking was excellent and never struggled for a space. High amount of privacy offered; we value our privacy so the 'Do not disturb' sign was left on the door for the duration of the visit and this was honoured by staff; because of this I can not offer an opinion on the housekeeping/room service during my stay. Regular bus services from just outside the property which can take you to Manchester City Centre. Tap-to-enter system for the main door, which was convenient as it meant being able to go out and return at any time. Wifi/Internet facilities were reasonable.
Cons: Room was made up haphazardly; dirty cups, lots of dust and black mold on some of the walls; looked like it hadn't been deep cleaned in a long time. Hallways were very dingy and smelled musty, and the communal areas were not welcoming at all; didn't actually see or hear any human life inside the house for the duration of the visit. Constant traffic noises outside but this is to be expected on a main road and not the guesthouse's fault. The landlord also attempted to charge me extra on the grounds that allegedly I was smoking in the room, but I do not smoke and have never smoked in my life, nor did the other guest staying with me; so be careful if you are going to stay here & make sure someone is present to check the room properly with you when you are checking out. Beware of the outdoor steps also as they are very slippery and uneven. I am upset with the conduct of the landlady in regards to her undue allegation towards me, so I will not be staying here again. If that didn't happen I would stay here again but the place could have better lighting and good, regular deep cleaning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff where great quiet and a great place to stop and near to work
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Really great value for money
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The land lady was very friendly, location is spot on too. Easy access to Manchester, hotel is about 15 min walk from train station and there’s a bus right outside the hotel too. Room was very cosy, clean and gave a nice calming feeling. We both enjoyed our stay very much and we will definitely return to this hotel in the future. Highly recommend !!
Cons: There’s nothing to dislike.

Cons: Lifts were broken so had to carry heavy cases up 36 stairs. Place was very run down and not like the photos. Didn't look like the place had been vacuumed in a long time. Ripped carpet and broken doors. Bed was comfy enough. Noise wasn't too bad

2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing. Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy
Cons: The smell in the whole of the building was absolutely vile. The rooms were filthy, there was holes in the walls, thick layer of dust right around the room. The shower didn’t work properly it was either scorching hot or freezing. The dirt that was in and around the bath tub and in the toilet was horrendous. Uncomfortable beds with hairs in and dusty bedding. Rude staff. Sat on FaceTime to her friends whilst we were stood at reception waiting to be dealt with. Took her a good 5 minutes to look up from her phone to notice that we were there.

6.3 Good
Pros: Staff were oblidging.
Cons: We are in the 21st century, to only get a poor/fair reception on Wi Fi in the bedroom is very poor, shouldnt have to go to reception to get a strong signal. Pillows too skinny, lift was neither here nor there, seemed to be stuck on ground floor. No matter what room you were in, the floor boards squeaked. Not very impressed at all.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Late check in, quiet room, good shower
Cons: Poor telly, the smell in the main corridors,
4.6 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Broken furniture. Scruffy car park.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The shower was very very powerful ( although the handel was broken and kept coming off in my hand). They allow pets
Cons: The room we had was nothing like the pictures. It clearly has not be decorated in many many years, the carpets are dirty the paint is a dirty crean, the shower handle broken and the furniture is old. The whole place needs refurbishing. The room was tiny. The vleaners had not cleaned it properly, empti milk cartons on the floor not enough pillows or towels ( but the bedding was clean). The floor has a ridiculously loud squeak, you cant walk around the room without waking your partner. The bathroom was dirty.

Pros: Everything good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent, fresh cooked vegetarian options.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: A nice English Breakfast.
Cons: Would have liked a few more smiles from the staff.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Trad breakfast very nice, less than 5 minutes walk to Marple railway station which is 25 minutes from Manchester Piccadilly. Only 6 or 7 minutes stroll to historic Marple Bridge where there are 3 proper pubs within 100 yards. Free wifi included
6.3 Good
Pros: Very comfortable, clean room with a nice view. Good selection of hot drinks in the room. Comfortable, clean bed.
Cons: Staff were okay but not extremely friendly or welcoming. Shared shower is not ideal and hot water cut off regularly.

6.0 Good
Pros: Very comfortable bed
