Absolutely beautiful and a great area with tons to do around. N/A
The lobby was quaint and kept very clean. We really liked the coffee it was delicious! The maintenance man was very friendly and always said hi to us and greeted my kids. The upkeep of the resort was impecable. Very friendly staff. Private beach. Didn't like that there was a main st. dividing the resort to get to lobby. Didn't like not knowing you had to leave a $100 deposit for "incidentals". Didn't like the dark spots on the roof of the shower / ceiling.
Room with fireplace! Very rustic, but in a good way. I'll definitely return. Only enough hot water for one shower, but the spa made up for that.
The room need to be more clean
Location, room decor, view and breakfast. Fireplace did not work and TV had connectivity issues.
Clean room. And breakfast service. None
Very close to Bear Mountain. Lovely holiday decorations in the lobby. Big, comfy bed. Check in at 4pm. Whole place has old lady, perfume scent. Shower didnt drain properly. Dining area too crowded and understaffed. Very likely you won't get any breakfast.
There was someone in the room they gave us. The food wasn't very good.
The rooms are compfy, staff at breakfast very friendly, breakfast included Women at frontdesk are not very friendly or welcoming. The hotel in the inside looks aweful, gody, outdated, okd fashioned, almost creepy with big chinese vases and tons of tacky chandaliers, horrible paint job......frightening
I vacation Big Bear approximately 10 times a year and Best Western had somewhat decent price at the time. PLEASE, don't let that fool you. Nothing good about this place. For the most part it looked as if housekeeping is doing their job. When I checked in they couldn't find my reservation which was fine. After 30 min they finally locate it under a different name which was odd. Management (lady with an accent) at the front desk was very unfriendly and told me that NOT maybe but " I made a reservation elsewhere " they put us in a room where the fire place wasn't working and the wall boarders was basically coming off the wall which was a hazard for my toddler. The heater is controlled by hotel, basically a switch you have to shut on and off very often. At check out they told me there was a charge which I shouldnt have had any, AGAIN I was a different person in there books, very odd. I waited about 30 min before they figured it out. Much better hotels out there. Trust me! Spend that extra $5-$10.
It's convenient located, it has a nice arquitecture. The breakfast is complete and the persons very warm. the shower and the water temperature. too much escalators, ceiling too low, with central heating, you can't control the temperature. I have two rooms (one on the Jacuzzi level is cold and one on the second floor is too hot).
Staff was nice, the rooms were spacious and clean. Also the rooms were very quiet and it was easy to fall asleep. The room had a gas fireplace which was a nice surprise. The included morning breakfast was good, great selection and the service was good. The only negative was the bed was very very firm bordering on hard
Good location. Eventually got a semi-decent room. First room we were given was absolutely disgusting. No molding between carpets and wall. Filthy floor. Walls looked dirty. The excuse was that it "hadn't been renovated yet". It was a disaster. They moved us to another room downstairs which was better (not great), but we had to settle for two queen beds instead of the one king we booked. Staff lacks a customer service orientation. Not rude, but not friendly either. They gave the horrible room to someone else straight away. We will probably not return, even though the location is very good.
Don't ever take room 214...next to linen room...wake up call at 5am and so much noise you can't go back to sleep.
Location and view No restaurant/ bar or laundry
Pro: Perfect location, great views, fun sledding right on-site, comfortable beds, nice gas fire place, mini fridge. Con: Holes in wall, interior/finish show age, ripped towels, jacuzzi needed cleaning (a ton of sand/dirt), shower was like 4" off the tub...
Location was great. Lakeside view was superb Jacussi was not working. Room was small
It was very clean, cozy and the view was amazing!
The hotel was beautiful and very clean. Our room was at Forest Shores next door. We enjoyed the kitchenette that was full of dishes and silverware to use. The rest of the room was very cozy and intimate. The blankets were soft and very thick for the colder nights. We had a lake facing room in the Forest Shores portion but we were a little confused on how to get in, only to realize that the sliding glass door was the only entrance. The room was described as having a jacuzzi/shower combo but was disappointed that it was no bigger than a standard shower tub.
The view and the coziness, loved the fire place. The bathroom was too small and there was no microwave.
The finishing touches were excellent. Excellent remodeled bathroom. Room was comfortable. No WiFi
Easy to find. Volleyball net available. Patio furniture included. Furniture bulky. Felt cramped although there was enough room. Old fashioned heater. Volleyballs all needed air. Jacuzzi was dirty.
Comfortable and close to the mountain for skiing. They did have a hot tub, which would have been nice after skiing, but the snow basically made it inaccessible.
live the location to the lake , room was clean and close to bear valley village. I didn't like being woken up early on my birthday because of construction
down to earth
Peaceful, quiet, friendly staff. Good location, view of lake! Close to all restaurants.
Staff seemed to be unfriendly.
The room was very cozy and neat. The location was really close to the village. It would be nice if they had a mini fridge with complimentary water. The tv was small
Quiet and they allow dogs. A little shabby. Old TV.
The staff was friendly and the rooms were very clean. The ice machine was in the office and it closed at night. No fridge so bring a cooler.
clean and roomy, comfy beds, near restaurants and stores. open field next to hotel full of snow for kids to play
Close to village and lake, plush clean carpet, big bathroom and closet space, flat screen tv, fireplace, wide open space right across the parking lot where we were able to play in the snow. Loved it! Will definitely return and recommend! No microwave or fridge :( pillows a little uncomfortable. even though we were one of maybe 4 occupied rooms and we were leaving on a Tuesday, they still called at 11 to remind us of check out. It's not actually a negative I guess - they were nice about it and 11 IS the listed check out time but I will always give bonus points to a place that gives free late check out!
Locale is great Rooms are worn but cleanish Nottinghams restaurant has good happy hour bartenders rock there! One of my fav places in big bear when prices are cheap
Great location. Super close to the lake and the village. Super friendly front desk guy!
Free wifi. Room layout was weird.
Great location, clean accommodations. Bed was uncomfortable.
Close to town. Location Bit dated, flat pillows.
Very friendly staff, great location. Older, refurbished rooms were very well appointed and clean. Would definately stay again. No place to hang clothes in room #69.
The price was very affordable. Shower was very nice and the fact that it was off of Pine Knot so you didn't have to drive to go to the shops or eat. The bedding was very old and "stale" feeling. Bed was also itchy.(no bed bugs though!) there were ants in the bathroom crawling around the sink.
I liked the proximity to the local bars/resturants. I went in the summer time and they didn't have any air conditioning
LOVED the location, rate, very clean room, and incredible customer service. Internet was down, bed pillows were flat-wouldn't consider them pillows, mattresses were worn. Rooms need to be updated a little: carpet and headboards would make a drastic difference in appearance.
Great location, accessible to everything. The rooms were big enough, and spacious to walk through..located in a central location close to food places, bars, etc. They also gave is a.discount coupon for eating in the restaurant close to the place
Loved the privacy and proximity. Off season is great, I'm sure peak ski season is completely different.
Loved this place!! The only bad thing was the bed in our room was hard as a rock. But we still loved the room!
We had two of the cottages, one for me and my husband and one for my son. Each iw equipped with a beautiful rock spa tub and fireplace. #14 was bigger, and #7 was smaller but really made you feel like you're in a cottage out in the enchanted forest. It would'nt have been surprising to see one of the Seven Dwarfs show up. There is a kitchenette area in each room. I would recommend these cottages to couples. We didn't think our bed was not super comfy, however our son thought his was fine.
Absolutely perfect for a get away. Quaint cottage, fireplace, cute front porch, and so close to all the shopping and restaurants. Will definitely be going back. Can't think of one thing that I would change !
Loved the layout of the cottages, Friendly staff, upon entering the room I noticed how clean it was, the tub was bigger than I thought and the jets were a nice touch, bed was comfortable, I really loved the layout of the room and how the room had little homey touches my boyfriend loved the room just as much as I did I definitely plan on staying again. I loved everything about the room!
Bed was very comfortable hot tub great Need more places to hang towels for hot tub use
I loved the whirlpool bath, courteous staff, location was great. Poor internet. Bad area for cell service (not their fault)
Location, recent room remodel N/A
The room was spacious and clean. The desk at check in stated the A/C was not working but that if we opened the window we would be just fine. What he failed to mention is that not only was the A/C broken, but they had the heat blasting in the hallways and our tiny 4th floor window only opened about 1". when we got into the room around 9pm it was about 80 degrees and never cooled down. We were too tired to request a room change. In the future we will request a room with a sliding glass door so in the event the A/C is broken again we can at least open the door to let some fresh air in.
VERY FRIENDLI ATMOSPHERE SOFA IN THE ROOM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
I love that I can have my dog. I like that it's close to the Villiage and the lake. I like the variety of rooms and prices. I like the jacuzzi in the room and outside as well. Many of the electric plugs didn't work. Our cabin needed a serious cleaning. The fridge, microwave and "table" were all over the room.
Location and view The restroom was in need of repair
I didn't like much about this place. The woman behind the front desk was nice enough, but she did not have a good front-desk appearance. She was the only staff member I saw the entire time I was there. I stayed on the second floor of an 8-unit building. The room was drafty, and although there was a fireplace, there was a big hole in the back where the outside air just whistled through. There was no mattress pad, just a single flat sheet on top of a bare mattress. The bathroom was clean but there was no holder for the toilet paper. The sink was cracked and old. The old and dirty carpet was full of charred spots from sparks flying out of the fireplace. The room was not vacuumed each day. The bedding was old and tacky. I didn't want to look at it too closely. The room is full of things that don't match and are just plain ugly. Old thrift store paintings, half-broken lamps, etc. There was a hole punched in the wall. No coffee machine, no microwave, and a tiny TV that looked like it was suspended from an upside-down coffee table nailed to the ceiling. On the other hand, with some help, this place could be lovely. There are cabins, chalets and two-story motel-like structures scattered throughout a woodsy copse with birds singing and sunlight slanting through the trees. The air is clean. The manager (owner) takes pride in her plants and she tends them carefully. From the road it looks like a big Swiss chalet, and it's sweet. Most rooms have a fireplace. I understand there are saunas in some rooms. At night the place is quiet after everyone settles down. I guess this place caters to skiiers and other sports enthusiasts who don't care where they sleep and just need a place to crash. It was the least expensive place on KAYAK that met my needs, but it was still a bit pricey for what I got. Someone call Hotel Impossible! The place has amazing potential, but it would be a HUGE project to bring it up to par. I am planning on returning to Big Bear often, but I won't be staying at Black Forest Lodge.
It was a very nice, private room that was close enough to most everything it's within walking distance. The man who came to check us in was very nice, seemed willing to make most anything happen to make us more comfortable. Definitely recommend you bring your own pillow and possibly top sheet. The beds are "European style" meaning there's two smaller, rectangular comforters and no top sheet. Not bad, just a recommendation. One thing they don't tell you on here is you have to wait for the guy to show up at the location since there's no front desk on-site. But it was very easy to coordinate. Just plan to be there around the exact check-in time, or a little later.
Room was very clean. Nice modern decor. Great location, close to the slopes and village area. Dave was great. Will definitely stay there again next time I go to Big Bear.
The owner was very nice and very accomdating. Nothing
We loved everything about Timber Haven! Hotel Employee was so warm, welcoming and accommodating! Cabin 7 was perfect for our family of 6 and we loved the outdoor eating area, play structure and the paddle ball. Breakfast was perfect--nice to take back to If we have to say something, we wished there were screens on a few windows so we could cool down the cabin without adding some friendly bugs but that is so minor :)
The lodge was a perfect retreat for us this past weekend. It was quiet and cozy, and and the owner was delightful. I really couldn't ask for more, and we will definitely be back soon.
Loved the size of the room and bed Didn't care for how far it was from the town's main shopping area but it's a short drive away so it's not a deal breaker
breakfast and friendly staff icy spots
I slept in my car
I go to big bear often and Travelodge is the best place with great service for guests. The rooms are clean, upgraded, and they do what they say. They do not cheat customers like many of hotels in big bear we visited.
Breakfast was not good. I could only find breads, even thought it was the free meal... There are no bacons and eggs.
Room lock was missing. Neighbors were screaming until I walked down and ask the manager to do something about it. This is no reflection on the facility but the clientele.
Pros... Great location for snowboarding big bear, if u have a car. About 7 minutes away from the mountains (bear and summit). No traffic during the weekdays. Away from the town or shopping where it's crowded. We liked that aspect. room was good for what we paid. ($50 per night). Clean enough but not extraordinary. But we didn't expect anything five stars. Came with what was in fine print. Heater in room was very old looking and working but did the job. Parking is good and plenty. No assigned stalls so u can park where u want and closer to ur unit. The free complementary breakfast I thought was great. ( bagels with cream cheese. Cereal and milk. Hot coffee or tea. Wrapped pastries. Select fruit like apples and oranges.) breakfast started at 7 to 10 am. We watched the news to start our day. Overall good experience for the total amount paid. Staff the first day was nice and friendly. Didn't have any problems with our next door neighbors. As for the cons... Killed a decent size spider in my room. But that's no prob for me. Just a heads up. As for the heater, it didn't have a remote or timer so when it got too hot at night I had to get out of the bed and adjust or turn off. Did this twice during the night. So the first night i didn't sleep the greatest. This might've also been from the red eye flight we caught. The first night after boarding we came home to Luke warm shower water. Ran it in the tub for a while but stayed luke warm. We were so tired it didn't matter. Went through with it and went to bed. The next night we were weary about the shower and when we turned it on for a while again same problem but this time it was just cold water and no hot. Called the front desk 3 times and let the phone ring for a minute straight each time. No one picks up. I walk over to the front desk and the guy at the front is watching tv right next to the phone. I called him on it and say "wassup bra, you never heard my last 3 calls?" Looked like I caught him off guard and he smirks "sorry, no." Anyway he gets the water hot and it s all good. HOWARD is the slacking front desk guy. Hope he's not there when u stay. Kinda creeper looking but seems harmless. Not too knowledgeable either. Haha!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and fresh. There was hot water, a working heater, cable, free wifi, and conventional breakfast. Also the location is easy to find and close to everything. The wifi was very slow.
For last minute planning it was cheer than the rest Ants and spiders in the room. A/C did not work!! Staff wasn't the friendliest. No sort of window in the front of the room and no view... last time I stay there.
The front desk worker made fun of me for being in the military when we checked in. The parking lot is incredibly dangerous - they do not maintain the parking lot in the snow and our car was hit overnight; when I mentioned it to the front desk, I was told to wait (which turned out to be about 30 minutes) then told that it's "not our fault and you can't sue us" when I had simply said it has been hit and asked what to do. Took about thirty minutes to an hour to check in and to check out due to delivery trucks constantly blocking the only way in or out (except for the path that was blocked by 2-3 feet of snow and ice that we were told to use by someone at the front desk). The roof also leaks and has visible water damage.
Modern design, clean, and friendly staff. Breakfast was a joke.
Carpet was stained, poor lighting
I like The separate cabins they were small but very cozy and comfortable everything was pretty clean staff was real nice. The bed was uncomfortable and the shower head had too much pressure.
The jaccuzzi tub was great. The room was well decorated and cozy The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Its a short walk to the Village. Even though our cabin was one of the back units you can hear the traffic noise
Mostly everything! The bed wasn't very good in the Willow room.
When we visited in October 2014, the new owners had just been there six months. They had added new carpet to all the rooms, and repaired or upgraded many aspects of all the rooms. This is a very "rustic" type hotel, but still very nice. The owners are very involved and interactive. You see them every morning at the (included) breakfast and are happy to help with any part of your trip. When we arrived, somewhat late on Friday, one of the owners actually walked us to our room and carried my wife's luggage. You just don't see this everywhere, even in Big Bear. It's a bargain of a price, especially considering they include a really nice breakfast.
The Knickerbocker Mansion is an ideal place to stay in Big Bear! I had never been to Big Bear before, and the mansion's cabin atmosphere surrounded by beautiful trees and snow couldn't have been more perfect. The owners and staff were very welcoming and helpful and made sure all our needs were meant. We loved the cozy cabin feel and beautiful views from our room. Great breakfast, and conveniently located just a few minutes from ski rentals and the slopes. I highly recommend it.
The location was perfect -it was a very quick and easy drive to Snow Summit! We stayed in the Juniper Room and it had a little electric fireplace, which kept the room nice and warm. No matter what room you have you are in one of the couple cabins on the property, which is a nice change of pace in comparison to a standard hotel. Also, the man that we checked in with was very sweet and helpful. The Juniper room was very, very small. Just big enough for a bed, tv, small bench (for clothes?), and a bathroom. There is a small rack to hang some clothes, out of the way of your living space, but no drawers. The only way to control the temp in the room was by playing around with the ceiling fan and the electric fireplace, but we made it work. Also, the light breakfast that was included wasn't served until 8 am. This was a little odd seeing that people could be there to ski/snowboard and the mountain opens at 8:30 am. Unfortunately, we couldn't take advantage of the included breakfast. Overall, it was a cozy room and we didn't need much for our two night stay, so it worked out well! We would stay there again!
Loved the friendly, welcoming atmosphere of this B&B, the fascinating history of this century-old mansion, and the proximity to the ski slopes. Also the included breakfasts were gourmet and delicious! WiFi was unreliable.
