We liked the room, pool and grounds of the hotel. The area was wonderful for walking and sightseeing. The staff was very helpful and responsive to our needs. We felt that the dinner was very overpriced and was more presentation then delicious. I requested a green salad but was told that I could not vary from the menu. For such a lovely hotel I would expect that a green salad would not be too much to ask.
Wonderful restuarant Breakfast was expensive, but provided little.
food and service troppo vicino alle rotaie del treno
Beautiful grounds and gardens. Hotel is in a quaint, small town within an easy 5 min. drive of Avignon and has much more charm than Avignon. We booked the least expensive room and were given a lovely room with garden view which was quite large. no
Nothing The atitude of the staff (female) was extremely rude. She spoke English well, and rude. She is the first person I've ever met in France.
staff,comfort,& very convenient location n/a
Location exceleent for being in the hub of things. Not far from main attractions and more important a supermarket Air conditioning didnt work. One tiny wardrobe for 3 people and no drawers to place clothes meant we had to keep our tops in our suitcases.
Convenience of location. A bit run down and in need of makeover. lack of anywhere to park to unload
The triple room was a fair size. The beds (the double & sigle) were short and a little uncofortable if you are taller than 5.7ft.
good location within walking distance of sites and food. bird noise in court yard and rooms. staff had very limited english and did not inform us of hotel hours nor provided security code for late arrival. hotel was generally old and dingy. needs upgrading. no detailed map provided to public parking but 40% discount for hotel guests was generous.
The location was excellent, 5 minutes walk from The Palais des Papes.
Location is the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. this is a hotel where the owners have absolutely no pride of ownership. there is a sense that no money is put into maintaining and upgrading the facilities.
most things no elevator
The hotel situatated was in a great part of town. A five minute walk through the town square and you're at the Pope's Palace The power went off roughly 15 times during the night. It was a cold night so everyone had their space heater plugged in. Apparently the breaker box couldn't handle it.
Restaurant and service was excellent
Very good restaurant, swimmingpool fantastic, just beautiful.
Very pretty, excellent restaurant with good food. A little far away from town.
Very clean, nice garden. Bed too small and short if you are over 6ft. Didn't like the area it was in either. Pool area disappointing.
Wonderful breakfast; beautiful public rooms. The garden looked a little "tired" but we enjoyed our stay.
Pleasant quiet location convenient for the village. Easy parking and excellent restaurant. Very comfortable rooms. Internet service below average for such a good hotel. Very slow and connection lost from time to time.
Top hotel with very good service. Restaurant and breakfast are too expensive.
Sightseeing and relaxing Eating in the hotel was expensive.
Fantastic experience. Beautiful room with baclony and picture book Provance view across garden. Front desk lady very knowledgeable and helpful. Excellent food. A bit difficult to find.
Proximity to the majors sites of Avignon Comfort and convenient access to the hotel
The lobby is quite grand and visually striking. This hotel bills itself as modern and upscale but the rooms do not measure up. The desk staff was far from helpful, and did not describe any of the features of the hotel such as Wi-Fi, breakfast, etc. It was the beginning of November and our room was very hot, when we tried to use the air conditioner it only blew hot air. The desk staff informed us (at 2pm) that this could not be fixed until the next day and instead switched our room. No air conditioning was available in the new room either (I believe the hotel had disconnected it for the season) meaning we had to sleep with the door to the balcony open, which was not at all safe as the balconies were connected to every room on the floor of the hotel.
The hotel is easily accessible and has a public garage just around the corner. Close to the city center Air conditioning is centrally managed. Dials in the room have no effect at all.
Great location, friendly staff, really good value for money. Very quiet. Lots of good places to eat within a very short walk. Very close to the centre of Avignon. It was a shame there were no eating facilities in the hotel except for breakfast but it was November and obiously quiet.
Closeness to cetrum of Avignon Payment of parking
Close to the center Most staff was not friendly
Excellent staff. very polite and efficient. The Standard room (31) did not have a bench for the luggage, and the wardrobe was not big enough to hang a suit or a lady's dress ????
The price we got via Kayak They were very unprepared to handle the number of folks at checkin. Seemed unorganized..
Good location close to Avignon old town. Question 4 star status.Simple rooms not renovated for a long time?
Stayed in a Junior Suite (4 adults) very roomy and comfortable and excellent price via Booking.com.Pay carpark close and convenient. Easy walk into the old city from the hotel.
Very pleasant atmosphere and helpful staff Some of the decoration a bit tired.
The staff and owners were very helpful, friendly and went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. The hotel is charming, full of character, in a great location in a lovely part of the world. Not really - I thoroughly enjoyed my stay
Ambience and style. And one could walk out and be in the middle of town.
Good welcome, interesting decoration/environment. Good breakfast.Good location. We have stayed four times in the last 3 years and have been very happy with this choice. However, the rooms are not all of the same standard. The 1st floor overlooking the courtyard is better finished, with better bathroom facilities, which this time I found could be improved in our rooms. If all the bathrooms could be of the same standard this would be a very good all rounder.
We loved staying across the river from Avignon (2 minutes by car or #11 bus whose bus stop is only a block away). Villeneuve is a charming town. We would sit in the plaza with the locals having a beer every evening before dinner. If you prefer a less touristy setting and would like the opportunity to meet the locals, this is the place for you.
Pleasant and helpful staff. A bit noisy at times because of flooring and type of building.
Rien!!! Le personnel est très désagréable et peu à l'écoute des clients! a deconseiller absolument à la clientèle étrangère! Nothing! To avoid absolutely if you are foreigners or if you travel in family! strong and arrogant welcome! ! L'accueil déplorable et l'incapacité à s'adapter au besoin du client! The disapointing welcome!!!!
It's a great hotel in the historic city of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. Located in the charming medieval building you really feel like you came back in time. Even the parking for the hotel is inside 16th century church, which I may admit feels slightly odd. Breakfast is served in a beautiful backyard and nearby area is filled with authentic French cafes and restaurants. Short walk to historic Franciscan monastery and about 10 min ride to Avignon city center. It's on of the most pleasant hotels I've stayed in and I would gladly recommend it to anyone. Really none
The service was great, and the room was very nice. We had a baby cot in our room and a dog and were still comfortable. Our window opened to a quiet courtyard. The only problem was that the lobby smelled very strongly of cat pee.
We loved the location and the age of the hotel. My daughter loved the dog and cat there. THe bathrooms had a bit of a urine odor at all times.
The breakfast was very good, with selection of pastries, bread, marmelades and so on, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I arrived and put my vehicle in the designated "10 min. - Load and unload of luggage" place. Went to the reception, and the owner told me to remove my vehicle from there. Err... according to my basic calculation I still had 9 min to do my "unload of luggage". Very bad start. I left the bags in the room and went (with the vehicle) to visit Avignon. In the evening, a car was parked in the mentioned spot and remained there the whole night and until I left in the morning. All in all, a rude, unnecessary, unfair experience.
The location was great. the hotel overall was quite nice with AC. The breakfast was delicious.
Great location and attentive, concerned staff. Perhaps the best dinning in the city. Very comfortable sleeping. Shower didn't have a curtain to contain the water, so it could get messy. Otherwise it worked well with good pressure.
The staff were wonderful
It was on the town square, so a great base.
A small, modern hotel in a perfect location in the heart of old Avignon. Good value and pleasant, comfortable, quiet rooms. Fancy coffee maker in room. Difficult to access by car and parking garages are not too close (not bad, though). We were upgraded to a suite which was really nice, but despite having an elevator, we still had to climb an additional 30 steps after we got off on our floor to reach it (with all our luggage, baby stroller, etc.). That was just for the suite, but most other rooms also require various numbers of extra steps despite being on the same "floor."
Second visit to Avignon. Hotel location is perfect, right on the square. Very clean, large room, well appointed. Staff is excellent. The bath had some severe water damage to the tiles and this had not been repaired for some time.
Location. Helpfull friendly clean. Cute
The hotel location is perfect and the rooms were wonderful especially when compared to typical European hotel rooms. The view of the square is a very nice addition to a great room and kind, helpful staff.
excellent location and very friendly & helpful staff. breakfast is ok. Big variation in rooms & bedsizes. We changed room without a problem.
location too expensive no reception area/bar
Location Smell of sewage
Wonderful hotel. Great location and friendly staff.
Nice location & elegant atmosphere! This hotel is located near from the station of SNCF & the bus stop from TGV, it's very convenient for tourists. It was little hard to connect to wireless internet from a room because of the condition of wifi.
The location and the buildings The swimming pool is tiny
A lovely hotel with nice rooms and very freindly, capable staff. Location was perfect.
Although the description of the hotel says 'gratis WIFI in the whole hotel available", there was no WIFI in the rooms. The same for the airconditioning, the management had turned it of centrally despite a outside temperature of 25 degrees and a even higher temperature inside the room. The water pressure of the shower was low and the showerhead was placed in a bad way. The breakfast is very poor and of low quality, certainly not worth 16 euros per person. As other guests had also suggested in their comments, there are better places nearby the hotel to have a good quality/price breakfast.
Unusual and interesting use of monastery but the downside is confusion on use of stairs and noisy lift added to the external wall in the courtyard. Having secure parking at small cost was also a bonus. Reception area too small to handle a large group and also suffers from wind blowing in leaves. Bathroom was large but let down by small shower area and dangerous edge of vanity unit when using the toilet.
Excellent service, excellent location, and outstanding dining room: excellent value for money for meals and wine. Service was faultless. This was one of the nicest stays we could ever imagine. We are planning to return sometime later this year. It was truly and outstanding experience. We are not neophytes to France. We've lived in France for over twenty years. A tiny point, but we slept with the door open to our terrace and we were visited by mosquitoes. Maybe it would help to have netting installed on the terrace or a discreet sonic zapper in the room above the beds.
hotel itself, room, staff
Hotel is in a great location and its public rooms are very attractive. We paid for an upgraded room in the new wing of the hotel and we were very disappointed withthe room design and the facilities there. It did not warrant the additional cost and the lighting and privacy of the room were very poor.
Centrally located. Quiet, off the main street. Cost of food was too high, but there were plenty of cafe's nearby to get good lower cost food.
The place is magnificient, we had a lovely room with views to the cloister and the fountain The room (in the old part of the building) was quite big and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel sometimes looks a bit cold, with long corridors and not very well furnished. Moreover, the staff at the reception is pretty unhelpful and not willing to give advice when requested. In a turistic city such Avignon this should not be the case.
The staff, location and size of the room No
This hotel was located in the centre of the Old City. The location was excellent for choice of dining, shopping and seeing the many interesting sights.
Good location, good breakfast!
Great location and a superb hotel in the heart of the city. So many sights to see, without getting the car out again.
Excellent location and very peaceful Our room was comfortable, but a little on the small side
hotel personal was extremely helpful
Proximity to main attractions. Large, spacious room. Effective air-con. Excellent view. Never had to wait for lift.
Lovely hotel in all respects other than being some what dated and old fashioned. Great view from the room. Old fashioned fittings and decorations
The room was large and comfortable The maid left our door open on our first day but the reception staff were apologetic. Tea and coffee making facilities would have made it better.
Relaxing, clean and friendly Too expensive by far and poor location
quiteness, close to town centre, spacious garden pool water was not heated and a bit too cold
We knew this hotel from a previous stay 10 years ago, it was nice to find out that it still matched our expectations. The restaurant as good as ever.
Spa facilities, swimming pool area and the hotel grounds and decor were very nice. Staff were also very attentive. Free wifi in the bedrooms. My room was very small although I was advised of this when booking so can't complain, there are a couple like this, and based on other reviews, most rooms are larger (although this would cost extra to the 185€ we paid per night). My main issue was the cost of any extras in the hotel. Menu prices and drinks were extortionate even if it has a michelin star. Since it's a good 10 minute drive from Avignon, if you don't have a car, you have to go by Taxi, and for some reason that costed around 25€ each one way journey too, making it an expensive couple of days. Not sure if it's normal, but the taxi drivers seemed to start their meter when they were called by the hotel, so the starting tariff would range from 6.50€ to 8.50€ which isn't great.
The hotel doesn't look like much from the outside, but once through the doors a large, beautiful courtyard (very well maintained) appears. Nice pool area, and well appointed spa area. Fantastic meal at the restaurant. Very friendly staff. The location is a little "off the beaten path", and you need a car to get anywhere. Overall, a little pricey (both room rate and restaurant).
We absolutely loved this hotel! It has lots of Provencial charm and our room was very pretty and spacious. It is the perfect place to stay in Provence if you don't want to be with all the crowds in Avignon center. It is about a 10 minute drive to Avignon and easy access to other areas of the Luberon region. There are no restaraunts nearby so you will need a car for sure. The hotel has wonderful food but is pricey. It has a great outdoor pool, indoor pool with spa, very lush landscaping and beautiful patios. Very attentive service and wonderful personel.
Very nice and quiet! Excellent Dinner. Very friendly staff. Secure place and parking ground. Close to Avignon. Will come back...
All the staff were exceptionally polite and helpful, especially the staff at reception, and the restaurant was of a good standard.
The staff were very attentive and polite. The layout and facilities in the hotel were lovely and there was a lot of attention to detail. Lovely scented rooms.
The friendliness of the staff and the food was fantastic Need a map to get there!!!
The location of hotel is just 1 minute from the “Palais de la Papes” and all the main attractions. Moreover it has an entrance directly from the public parking (you have a discount from the official price). The staff was kind and speaks a good English. The room was very quite. The room was not so big. The price is high. Sometimes in the hall there was a bad smell (drain?).
The beds were excellent, nice duvets and pillows. Nice to have a fridge. Great location for sightseeing. Bar area been refurbished since I last stayed there and looks much more modern. No milk or coffee was ever placed in the room - only teabags? Had to ask reception for coffee and bought our own milk. Considering the cost of the room this was playing real cheap. You get tea, coffee and milk in any decent budget hotel nowadays.
The location of the hotel was wonderful--mere steps from the Palais de la Papes. Parking was available at an adjacent parking ramp, a big plus for staying in Avignon. It was very difficult finding the hotel as the entrance is located inside the parking garage.
Location and ease of parking. The duvet on the bed was too hot. We had to take it apart.
The location was excellent and the rooms were very comfortable and clean
Very good location, nice rooms Smeal on the hole
The fridge with things to buy in the lobby was well stocked. The breakfast buffet was very good. The bed was comfortable. The room allocated to us was overlooking the breakfast room so we had to keep our blinds drawn most of the time. We were next to the staircase on floor 1 (room 102) so we often heard noises of footsteps and the door slamming on the ground floor. Would not choose this room and you should not be offering it.
Very gool location, close to palace, 2 minute walk to town Square. clean rooms , good size comfortable bed Staff had quite a bit of diffuculty with english , not a big problem for us could be for some
I am disappointed, having booked this hotel through Active Hotels, that the single night stay by my wife and her friend was billed as two separate transactions on my credit card, thus attracting extra commission. I have heard of this trick before, it is usually to avoid a single transaction over £100 on a credit card. The check in and room have been ticked as poor because my wife tried to get into her room and the card didn't work. The existing occupant came out to see who was trying to get into his room. What a simple but stupid mistake.
Parking close to the entrace for 23 hours.Bed was comfortable They were having major renvation works and did not state this to guess, before arrival/booking. Losy minibar and no open bar services facility due o these works. No meals other tha high cot breakfast. No power plugs beside bed The cost was far too high - should have been a reduction due to virtually no facilities that Mercure normally offer. Moved to nother hotel next day for 30 euros less.
Convenience to train station
One of the male receptionists at night was very helpful and smart. He can speak fluent English and I was very impressed by his courtesy. We requested about airport transfer vs. taking taxi / Roissy bus and he can clearly tell us the differences and further on recommended the best option which we followed as a result. His professionalism impressed us. One of the more 'senior / elder' female receptionists could not speak as fluent English as some of the younger staff and she was having difficulty understanding my question on whether I can use my metro tickets for RER (e.g. buying an additional ticket to go with the metro or not), and when I further prompted she immediately felt irritated and just told me to ask at the station.
Staff, location Bad shower
location Sterile uninviting atmosphere
very good location, parking under the hotel why charge for private hotel park ?!
They were helpful when we asked to change our room The air conditioning was noisy
The room was clean and well maintained. Location is very good, five minutes walk to center. Bathroom was very good. Breakfast was poor, boiled eggs had kind of bad smell and remained one day before I thought! Indeed no problem, nex day we just skipped the breakfast.
The receptionist was excellent. Parked my car and had it out front in the morning. Good location. It was a little old and tired, but had character.
Easy access to Avignon by foot
Convenient to bus and train station as well as the centre. I asked for a quiet room which they provided but it faced an alley and had almost no natural light.
Location was great. The front desk staff was outstanding, and the rooms were always clean nothing
Good location, but 10/15 minute walk across busy roadbridge. Lovely small balcony overlooking Rhone and Avignon.
Easy check-in, very helpful staff. The room was small, but comfortable and quiet even though it was close the the train tracks. Nice view of the Pope's Palace from the terrace. Bathroom was cramped, limited parking.
Olivier the manager was wonderfully helpful in many ways. Breakfast on the terrace was good. There was some traffic noise due to location of hotel.
Breakfast was very good, good use of space in rooms, service good and proximity to Avignon very good. Decor was delightful. A female, seemingly in management and who spoke no English, seemed unnecessarily haughty. This was a complete contrast to all other staff who were exceedingly friendly and helpful.
Balcony and view Bathroom a bit cramped
A bit of a walk over the bridge into the heart of Avignon
This is a very unique property ("Miami Beach Cool/Ultra modern" in a very old town) - we look forward to seeing the results once the renovations have been completed. The new owners were absolutely wonderful and welcoming during our stay though we could see that they were still in the midst of work since they had taken over. We were treated to some wonderful extras - we were provided with a room on the top floor that had a fantastic view of the river and the papal palace, we were invited to use the roof top terrace a night that also provided fantastic views of the city and had wine and hors d'ouevres on the house that evening. Our room was great but the bathroom was in need of renovations.
Our room, with balcony and a view of the river. Great buffet breakfast. Very friendly staff. Nothing, except maybe I would have liked to stay longer.
2 rooms in one
It is very closed to the place I had a convention Everything was OK
The staffs of hotel are very nice and friendly. Dinner was excellent and especially enjoyed to see wine list which had a lot of reasonable priced bordeaux grand vin of good vintage.
Accomodation is very complete, staff is professional. The ambiance is nice (manor and chapel). Swimming pool relatively big. The elevator in the chapel is very slow and the carpet in it has to be cleaned. But this is a minor issue.
Great Service and Food, very rustic and very french Air conditioning did not work very well in the room because of poor design
perfect kitchen and stuff, nice pool and atmosphere
The hotel is beautiful with excellent grounds. First class restaurant. The air-conditioning in our room did not work which made for a very hot night. Staff were informed but took no action.
The service was excellent, the food was out of this world (congratulations to the chef), overall the staff was very friendly and helped regarding all our requests. Relaxed atmosphere No, we were very happy. Clients should be aware that although the rooms are very reasonably priced (semi-luxurious, I would say), the restaurant is very expensive. But it was well worth it. The food was stupendous.
We liked this typical atmosphere one gets in French Hotels et Chateaux, unique in the world. We also liked the central situation in the Provence, close to Avignon, very close to the highway. no complaints
A charming inn rich with history. The grounds are beautiful and one of the best bathrooms we have had in France. A lovely place if money is no object, although we did get three nights for the price of two on the booking.com site. The meals were over the top expensive. We were seated in the dining room and the owner came in and told my husband he should be wearing a jacket for dinner. This embarrassing situation could have been avoided if the website had indicated their policy or strong suggestion for dress attire. Because of this, we chose not to eat subsequent meals at the hotel and dined elsewhere.
Standard of hotel A1 100% top notch, as too were the staff. Fantastic location, ditto premises and attention to detail. Totally perfect in every way, could not have been better. We will return.....
