Broken air conditioning made this stay warm uncomfortable and loud
Friendly staff. Large rooms

Updated furnishings, very clean (especially the kitchen and bathroom), service was friendly and helpful, room layout was perfect for a small family.
Bed linens were nice, but couldn't hide the fact that the bed was very old and uncomfortable. Didn't sleep well at all.
Great value and convient location. Very clean and updated rooms. Liked having the kitchen facilities and also the bag of popcorn.
We could hear some vaccuming at 6:30 in the morning.
They called after we had been there 1/2 hour to make sure everything was ok.
Surprisingly good for the price. Excellent attitude of staff. Obviously not 'upscale' but very comfortable and clean, and with helpful and friendly staff. It does what it does very well.
This is one of the cleanest, friendliest hotels I have stayed at in a long time. I was extremely impressed with the friendly hotel staff that checked me on, made sure I knew what was available and perks to me for staying with them.
Nothing, everything was fantastic!
The Wi-Fi was really slow, other than that everything else was OK.
Nice to have a kitchen room
refrigerator is loud.
I really liked the suite style of the room - with the bedroom in a separate room compared to the rest of the place.
The first room I checked into was very musty - almost smelled like someone had smoked in the room. I visited with the receptionist and they moved me to a different room which I was very pleased with.
My girlfirend and I went to this hotel because Des Moines was the middle city in between our long distance relationship at the time. We thought it looked nice on the outside and the price was reasonable. Upon entering the hotel, there was no one at the front desk and no sign of any staff after walking around the hotel. There was a phone on the counter and after I called 0, the phone kept ringing and no one had answered. After a while, calling again, someone finally answered the phone rudely. He came down, didnt apologize, did not explain anything, and was just mad at the world. We got to our room, which was not to bad looking. I would say it was clean, we liked the apartment feel with the kitchenette. We ended up having a good time downtown that night, and came back to the hotel to sleep. The air conditioner became a huge issue because of the constant noise it made. It was unbareable to go to sleep with on because it would shut off and then when it came back on to cool, it would wake us up. We tried everything a person can do to fix the problem, but ended up having to shut the whole air conditioner off. Because it was in the middle of the summer, we did not sleep comfortably. We only stayed one night, so I was planning on saying something to a staff member that next morning whenw e checked out. As we were leaving, we noticed that once again, there was no one to say anything to. There was no one that said goodbye, or thank you. The main issue here is the customer service, or should I say, lack there of. There was none. I don't usually post reviews. I am generally a good customer and will acknowledge when a company does a good job or a poor job. Beware of some of these issues.
This room was extremely clean and the hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful! The thing you need to know when booking this hotel is that they only clean once a week, although you can get fresh linens at the front desk at any time. Also there is no complimentary breakfast but they do have a little canteen that runs on the honor system and their items are fairly reasonable. You also have a free laundry area that is nice and clean as well as a small gym. Overall the experience was very nice and the hotel is a very safe nice part of town with an upscale mall nearby and plenty of food choices for restaurants. Caution- if you are visiting Iowa State University, it's an hour drive to the school so this may not be a good choice for you.
Candlewood suites in West Des Moines is very clean, modern, like new. You will be pleased and comfortable there. Perkiins, Mc Donalds, Burger King within walking distance. Very nice, safe area. Close to Jordan Creek Mall and I-80, I-35. It is the only place we will stay at when visiting Des Moines. They could upgrade their TV's to new digital style.
We stayed one night and were very pleased with the room and especially the bed. My wife and I sleep in a Select Comfort air bed at home so we find sleeping on many hotel beds an uncomfortable, annoying experience. The big refrigerator was perfect since we had brought food that needed to be kept cold for a family gathering the next day. Curiously, in two visits to the front desk there wasn't anyone at the front desk. A sign advised that they were currently 'servicing other customers' with a phone number to call to summon them. They weren't far away, however. There is a Perkins Restaurant a short walk away. Close to the Marriott and Mall in a great location in West Des Moines. We would stay there again.
