However, there was a mechanical problem earlier in the day with a plane to Cincinnati. Our flight was scheduled to leave Anchorage at 4pm, but Delta decided to take our pane from us and use it as a substitute for the original but nonfunctional Cincinatti plane. A ridiculous decision. The Cincinnati people already had missed all their connections, but now all the Seattle people missed theirs as well. When we finally got to Seattle 3 hours late (just before midnight), the desk agent said that Delta had no hotel rooms for us and also no hotel vouchers. We thus had to find a room and pay for it on our own. The next day, we had been rescheduled to Detroit and then on another flight from there to Boston. The flight to Detroit arrived nearly 30 minutes late, and we just barely made our connection. Had we missed it, we would have had to spend that night in Detroit. Delta did its best to keep the two of us together. On the Seattle-Detroit flight we were on opposite sides of the aisle in the same row, but that was in a row right behind a bulkhead, making it easy for us to walk over to each other. On the Detroit-Boston flight we were next to each other. Both flights were completely full, so Delta must have made some effort to keep us together as well as possible.

Cons: When I checked in online, I received boarding passes for the first two legs of the trip, but was told to see a gate agent in Amsterdam for the boarding pass for that flight. It turns out that there was a problem, attributed by one of the KLM staff that I talked with to "a communication problem between Delta and KLM." As a result, I was finally given a stand-by boarding pass. Since the flight was full, I was denied boarding. After hours of trying to figure this out, the KLM staff put me on a flight for the next day and organized a stay at an airport hotel. The KLM staff were very nice, but it seemed to take a very long time to figure this out. They also failed to note that the denial of boarding in the records, which caused a problem in my return flight. The upshot: I missed a follow-on flight to Budapest and had to pay a huge rebooking fee for that missed flight. I also missed a day of my vacation.

Pros: Legroom is above average, but at expense of seat comfort. Food is good but expensive. Crews were attentious and courteous, but not a strong differential from other airlines. Entertainment was good and easy to access.
Cons: Boarding in all of our 4 flights was chaotic and a combination of lack of organization from Icelandair and discipline from passengers. Space for boarding is scarce and confined. And when they call half of all passengers of a full 757 or 767 to board at the same time... the law of the jungle is stablished. Even with just a little more effort and organization from the airline it would be possible to make this a better experience for all passengers. Be aware of what you are told when you buy your tickets. They sold economy tickets to us and then charged a lot for bags telling us our tickets were economy light, even with their own receipts or tickets not mentioning anything about light on them.

Cons: 1- Boarding was difficult. Embarking in Reykjavik was in gate D3 . We have to walk and climb stairs with our carry on. Once we got to the ramp level we noticed that gate C23 was at same level of the boarding ramp. Why to make elderly people climb stairs with loads? 2- 5 to 6 hours of flight and this cheap airline only offers a little cup of water, coffee, soda or juice (once from Dulles to Reykjavik, twice from Reykjavik to Dulles). Otherwise you have to pay above reasonable price for cold plates. Icelandeair is a Cheap airline not to the level of a nation like Iceland or not to the level 0of any other Latin American, Asian or some of the European airlines that offer a decent snack in flights of 5 or more hours.
