Australia has restricted the entry of all travelers, with the exception of Australian nationals and permanent residents and their immediate family members, New Zealand nationals residing in Australia, diplomats accredited to Australia and residing in Australia and their immediate family members, and airline crew.
Australia has enacted temporary travel restrictions for flights to Melbourne due to a recent increase in COVID-19 cases.
Travelers who are not Australian citizens and returning permanent residents and their immediate family members need to apply for an exemption to enter Australia.
All international travelers are required to quarantine for 14 days at the first point of entry, unless they're granted an exemption upon request. Quarantines take place in state-designated facilities and fees depend on the state, ranging from $2500 for one adult in the Northern Territory to $3000 for one adult in New South Wales. But we tried to pay the fee at the front desk the first time and then we paid it at the gate and then boarded last on the plane. It was awful. The staff did not know anything and we were not treated great. Super unprofessional and disappointed at Kayak for not laying out all the costs ahead of me."

We arrived from Syndney the night before and wanted to make sure we were set for the early morning flight so went to an Air NZ information desk to get boarding pass. The agent printed out an e-ticket and said we were good to go. We arrived an hour and a half early to the gate, with our carry on bags as we have done all over the world. We heard an announcement about bags needing to be checked and assumed ours would be gate checked if needed (as anywhere else in the world). The gate agent didn't arrive til 20 minutes before the flight and told us we DIDN'T have a boarding pass and needed to return to the ticket agent and check our bags. By the time we ran back to the ticket agent we were told it was too late to check our bags. We had to pay $100 more a piece to fly LATER through Christ Church. We were on our way to meet our kids for vacation and ended up losing a day and $200 additional dollars because we were given inaccurate information by the Air New Zealand info desk."

It wasn't as big of a deal for the HongKong to Taipei puddle jumper. Crew was very attentive, responding rapidly to calls and rebooting the entertainment system when needed. They were also quick with providing water and ramen noodles when we needed them. Seats were OK, a little short on leg room on the 777, better on the Airbus 350's. In flight entertainment options were very good for the adults, decent for the kids (they seemed to be struggling to find things to watch)."

They made announcement updates every 10 minutes meaning that people had to be constantly alert to see if anything changed in the next 10 minutes. When the flight was cancelled, the employees could not offer any information about how to get ticket prices refunded, or how to get to the destination. They could not even connect passengers to the managers because the managers are in Hong Kong. The number they gave out to passengers for customer services could not be reached because this it is an international number. People had to miss connecting flights, meetings, important appointments, and are still trying to figure out how to get refunded for an expensive flight. Terrible experience and customer service."
