I missed my connection to USA. T Aviamca made me pay $600 for a new ticket to Miami and then I had to arrange a new ticket with another airline to get to San Diego. The whole experience cost me the loss of a $3500 ticket, a $600 tickets, a $100 for a rental car, and the loss if my NY Eve plans. They dont care. Do not fly Avianca. Delta or Alaska would never treat a passenger thos way. Beware the Star Alliance. I will give up my Gold status with United in 2020 as a result of the behaviour of their so-called 'partner' airline. Imagine if I had been traveling with my family?! Wow!"

I paid additional $250/ticket to get these tickets so I can get to Lima earlier than 7pmso that my wife and I can enjoy our honeymoon. I am very disappointed that airlines decided to switch flights without our approval. We did reach to Bogota at 1155am and we even tried to catch the 125pm flight from Bogota to Lima. but the staff was not helpful at all. All they kept on saying, “sorry nothing can be done, go file a complain”. Are you kidding me by saying that to your client, “go file a complaint”, instead of assisting. I guess Avianca airlines crew needs to learn about hospitality and customer service. NO AIRLINE MAKES Involuntary CHANGES with out notifying customers. Even on United Airlines, they don’t change flights with out informing customers."

When we arrived in Bogota, at 9:40 we had time to catch the connecting flight to Montevideo which was scheduled to leave at 10:20pm.... but instead we stayed in the tarmac without moving for over 45 minutes. There were over 30 passengers that were to take that connecting flight, so the airline had plenty of reasons to wait for us. Instead the airline, AVIANCA, chose to leave all of us stranded in Bogota for 24 hours. We will have all type of problems because of this we had hotel reservations as well as car rental reservations that may be lost because we didn't showed up. By the way according to one of the passengers whose husband travelled on the same flight the day before. The same thing happened to him 1 day earlier."

She tried to appeal to the supervisor but it was imposible. She was not drunk. We believe that Avianca iverbookwd the flight and decide to use this as an excuse. Moreover, she has had bith knees operated in the last year and does mot move quickly and with difficulty. Any way, it was a disaster. Would have been helpful to have known before the flight so I could have bought my own food to take on the plane. - The charging points on the back of the seat were inactive"
Cons: "It took two hours in line to be told our flight was cancelled. After waiting another hour we were told they did not have alternative flights for us. They refused to have conversation and would randomly leave to the back office for 20 minutes at a time or stop assisting people at all. There were people screaming at the ticketing counter and security was called. In the end we spent 14 hours waiting there for a new flight, got split up and sent to different countries, had to miss work, and were not given any flight credit, accommodation, or even an apology."
Cons: "A delayed flight from Santa Marta to Bogota due to bad weather in Bogota. Surprisingly, the connecting flight to New York left on time of course. Also it was drizzling on arrival to Bogota. I still suspicious that they blamed for rain to cover up their mechanical/ management issues or they intentionally delayed our flight so we can miss the flight to New York which they over booked and cut their loss. Anyway, I needed to arrange a hotel myself and Aviance claimed it was solely due to bad weather. I got what I paid for. Their rate was lower for the risk of their disorganized service and possible dishonesty. Or it can be really bad weather earlier. But one of UK passenger told me her daughter couple was in Santa Marta a few weeks ago and they went through the exact same issue. They might be unlucky family members go through the same rare situations. Now I got why Avianca gets bad reviews."
Pros: "When attempting to make the connection flight in Columbia, I was informed that I was being placed on standby due to overbooking by the airline. I was traveling with my service dog also. What is exactly am I supposed to do in Bogota, Columbia for an unexpected additional 24 hours? I had no money, and my credit card wouldn't work there. This was the worst airline experience in my life. Absolutely horrible. I will never travel with Avianca again. Avianca staff spoke hardly any English, so I couldn't hardly communicate with them either. Horrible."

It’s the airline business to choose some passengers to charge $100000 Colombian pesos for getting bags, and then after being forced to pay for the bags crew doesn’t give a receipt so we wouldn’t have proof of the fraude. Charging for bags is at discretion of crew. When buying the tickets for me and my family I checked the policy about luggage and the website doesn’t state about being charged for getting regular size bags like ours."

On top of being just enough time to wait for our bags, drop them off with the next airline, walk across the airport, enter security (which went exceedingly slowly), we had just enough time to get to the gate before boarding. Cons: "First of all I bought my ticket through Kayak, but apparently something called the flight network was the issuer of my ticket apparently they are and travel agency in canada , first i needed to change my ticket and they could not do it , then I dis not use my outbound flight because I needed to get to my destinantion one day earlier and yesterday i received an email saying that my return flight was cancelled. they told me that since i did not use my outbound they automatically cancelled my return flight, I ended up loosing 300 USD because of mis information from that travel agency , the people that answered my call were very disrispectfull, this has been the worse experience and ai ended up loosing all my money I had to purchase another return ticket."

When I arrived at the airline counter in Cartagena to fly to Bogota the reps requested a PCR test result from me although for travel to Peru within 24 hours, only an antigen test is required, not a PCR test. I had a negative Covid antigen test result from the airport clinic just before checking in for the flight. Subesequent to that, I requested that that the airline at least honor the flight from Cartagena to Bogota thinking that when I arrived in Bogota, as it is a more international airport, I would be able to convince a manager there that the current travel regulations to Peru only require a Covid antigen test within 24 hours of travel to Peru. The airline reps and manager refused to even honor my flight ticket from Cartagena to Bogota athough no Covid test at all is required for travel within Colombia. The female attendants scoffed at me. Furthermore, the male staff person got incredibly aggressive with me in front of everyone in the airport to the point where I had to step back thinking he was going to get physical with me. In all of my travel to 54 countries and 51 years of travel, I have never been treated this poorly by an airline. I had to go to the counter of another airline where I was able to purchase another ticket to Bogota and was able to fly out that hour by paying for another ticket. Fortunately, my bank has granted me a chargeback although I was forced to pay more for a ticket purchased at the counter of another airline. I am SURPRISED this Viva Airlines is even in business!"

Cons: "The staff were pushy and rude to me when they told me at the gate, when I was about to board, that I could not have a backpack and small purse. This is not what I understood when booking and is not clearly explained at the time of purchase. One attendant at the gate in particular was forceful and rude when insisting that I pay over $66 in cash at a moment when going to the ATM would mean potentially missing boarding and not arriving back in time to the gate. This process, which I agreed to because two staff members gave me the impression that I could not travel on the flight unless I paid right there instantly in CASH (completely ridiculous), caused me anxiety and took a long time, too long given the urgency of boarding the flight. I had to wait for change for 5 minutes and as a result, I was the last one to board. It should be noted that this process of paying for a maleta in hand at the gate had been preceded by having to pay over $20 in cash to print a boarding pass, which required another ATM withdrawal and fee. Cons: "The flight was delayed due to a mechanical issue which resulted in a missed connecting flight. Luggage was also lost and the United Airlines pawned me off to Air Canada. Air Canada flight was canceled and the second flight was delayed by 4 hours. Luggage has still not been located."

Cons: "They won't print your ticket at the check in counter and you can't use an online boarding pass. You have to print one from home or use an internet cafe at the airport that charges $6 to print a single sheet of paper. They jam your carry on bag into a small box. Boarding took longer than the flight! The seats are incredibly cramped yet they recline all the way back, so you're likely to have someone in your lap for the entire trip. Absolutely horrible. Nothing like other high quality discount airlines such as Air Asia which at least treat you like a human being."

I had to withdraw money at an ATM with its associated fees just so I could pay this so called entry tax that neither I or anybody else seems to heard of and, even though I'm an Australian citizen, and we don't need a visa to enter colombia. I flew with VivaColombia twice, the first time I received a boarding pass with I printed out, but for my second flight, I never received a boarding pass email, just an email that said online check-in is not available for this flight and to print attached eticket and take it to the check-in counter at the airport, when I did this they asked for around $10usd to print out my boarding pass."
