Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Cons: "It apparently was not noticed until the last minute that the plane parked at the designated gate was not the right plane. Just as we were ready to board, had to change gates. the announcement of new gate was not in clear English. Instead of saying 'C' as in Charlie, just C3, which sounded like a D, which would have been a concourse change. Little things, but they add up, when your previous flight was late on arrival."
Cons: "Horrible - Flight was diverted to IAD for no legitimate reason. Rebooked out of DCA with no travel vouchers. Most likely never booking with American Airlines again."
Pros: "Nice modern plane. Even though the flight was delayed, we ended up boarding earlier than expected and arrived pretty close to our original expected arrival time."
Cons: "The crew was nice and everything, but they weren't very good at making announcements on the loudspeaker. You could tell they didn't really know what they were saying or haven't practiced. One lady was trying to make a sales pitch for a new master card and you could tell she was reading and there were long pauses. My sense is that when using the loudspeaker to talk to the entire flight, one should be practiced and know what they're saying and communicate quickly and efficiently. Don't mean to be critical, but it's something that I noticed that could be improved."
Pros: "Crew service"
Cons: "Very cramped seating Delays on both flights"
Pros: "Boarded and took off on time; great crew"
Cons: "Waiting 30 minutes to get off the plane because they couldn't use the gate assigned to them."
Pros: "Shabby Cramped"
Cons: "Cramped Uncomfortable"
Cons: "American Airlines is always late"
Cons: "The aircraft was hot. Barely any A/C. It felt like 78 degrees. Uncomfortably hot."
Cons: "Too cold on the plane"
Pros: "The crew was professional and very accommodating."
Cons: "Cramped quarters."
Pros: "On time, smooth flight, no hassles"
Cons: "Tight space but overall not unexpected"
Pros: "Good meals"
Cons: "Not much legroom. Good movie shown but would have like personal options like other airlines."
Pros: "Once I made it, they worked to get me on the plane from Chicago quickly."
Cons: "I barely made it for my flight in Chicago and that was with running. They were already boarding the other plane when my plane from Hattiesburg landed. Earlier in the day I had to get them to change my flight from Chicago in Hattiesburg because it wasn't changed for me when the delay had my original flight leaving before I was to land in Chicago. I don't fault them for someone getting sick at the last minute or my inconvenience, but it was still inconvenient."
Pros: "Have not travelled AA in a long time due to my disappointed but today's flight changed my opinion. Was impressed with every thing except that 1 cookie and a cup of water. Not a deterrent though"
Pros: "Quick boarding and luggage pickup."
Cons: "Mediocre staff. In my experience United is more friendly and welcoming."
Cons: "At 6'1" the seats are too small and close together."
Pros: "The flight was fine, no complaints from JFK to DCA, luckily at JFK they gave us priority check-in forms to help us skip a few lines to get through faster for our connecting flight to DCA."
Pros: "Nothing good to say at all about American Airlines. #IHATEAMERICANAIRLINES"
Cons: "We boarde on time, however there was no air conditioning or lighting on. After fully boarding we were told the pilots were going to be an hour delayed coming in! Oh yeah, and the fancy new seats don't have power outlets. #IHateAmericanAirlines"
Pros: "Narrow aisle and seating. Attendant looking at his phone the entire time we were getting ready to take off as well during taxiing and takeoff. Unbelievable!"
Pros: "I did not die"
Cons: "planes were old, they lost my checked bags, the seats did not recline on a 5 hours flight, the movie was the same for everyone on the plane, food was a disgrace, seats were so small I was pretty much bitting my knees the whole trip. Overall, I am ever flying with American Airlines or Latam ever again."
Pros: "I like AA overall, better than United for sure. I've been flying with AA since forever."
Cons: "Flight attendants arrived late, delayed the passengers. No blanket for main cabin when asked, my parents are old and they were really cold. Harsh landing but that's a give for DCA anyway."
Cons: "The flight to NY took too long and I missed the connecting flight to DC. There was no one to help speed up the process through security and customs so I could make my flight instead, I was just rebooked for a flight 4 hours later. I have to drive to Richmond, VA tonight to make work tommorrow. I hate this neglect towards time."
Pros: "Online check in scanning my phone and having my seat already picked out. Informative while on the flight and great spacing. Also like to know that there still is free carry ons allowed."
Cons: "Never enough leg room!"
Pros: "Flight was quick, seamless, on-time, and comfortable. WiFi available. Arrived 10 minutes early. Recommend the shuttle because if you don't get one flight, they'll get you on the next. These days, the shuttle is more dependable than Amtrak."
Cons: "Would appreciate a USB port or an outlet."
Cons: "I wasn't able to fly Alaska Airlines due to storm in Washington DC. My first flight American Airlines from Charlotte to Washington DC was cancelled. The second flight Alaska Airlines from Washington DC to Portland was delayed, but I never flew. I got a direct flight from American Airlines from Charlotte to Portland instead."
Pros: "Crew was good."
Cons: "Boarding is terrible at DCA for commuter flights. You get on a bus packed in like sardines and the stand there for 15 minutes."
Pros: "It's not the person at the gate's fault. She tried to be very informative and kind."
Cons: "The flight was scheduled to leave at 630am. It's currently 945am and I'm still in the airport. Now a new maintenance issue was found. Flying is a first world luxury with first world problems."
Pros: "Everything was fine---smooth flight, no problems until after landing."
Cons: "We waited 45 minutes on the tarmac for a gate before we could deplane."
Pros: "Small airport"
Cons: "Service and flexibility, needed to call online for assistance"
Cons: "Delayed flight, moderately friendly crew, moderately comfortable flight, expensive."
Pros: "Everything was fine except it was inexplicably late!"
Cons: "It was over 30mins late for no reason!"
Pros: "Courteous crew, easy experience smooth "get in and get out" process"
Cons: "Flight was late due to weather but that's beyond anyone's control obviously"
Cons: "Bags left behind."
Pros: "The flight was painfully uncomfortable for me, as a tall and not particularly small person. I should have known better than to take the window seat (Orlando to DC was painfully uncomfortable because I just don't fit in those seats). The in-flight service was good, but I was glad when this flight was over."
Cons: "Mentioned above"
Pros: "Crew was very friendly, flight arrived ahead of schedule, planeside check-in for baggage was expedient"
Cons: "The plane departed at least 15 minutes late but the departure time was never updated to indicate the flight was delayed...even when it was ten minutes past the beginning of boarding and the plane had not even arrived yet. Felt like an exercise to improve flight scorecard performance. The flight landed at least fifteen minutes early...but we didn't have a gate..and ended up departing the planeapproximately on time...but planeside checked baggage took almost thirty additional minutes to finally return to the plane full of waiting customers. Felt way too long....and the ground crew didn't seem to appreciate that most people had a connection..."
Pros: "The associates at the terminal, who faced long delays and concerned and frustrated customers were patient and gracious. Following prescribed procedures they made announcements, apologized and provided snacks for the long delay."
Cons: "Having to wait for an extended time in the terminal. Delays turned my 10 hour journey into 24 hours."
Pros: "The PWM airport, ALMOST makes air travel tolerable. Great little airport. Crew was pleasant, Seemed to enjoy their work. That, alone makes a huge difference in an industry that truly doesn't put customer service anywhere NEAR the top of the priority list."
Pros: "The quick boarding and kind flight attendants"
Cons: "Seat wouldn't recline. Somewhat nauseous smell at first."
Pros: "All went well with the exception the crew was late"
Cons: "Crew was late"
Cons: "The check in process took to long. In line more than an hour."
Pros: "Flight was fine."
Cons: "Diverted due to low weather and low fuel. Sat on the tarmac for almost two hours before we could get fuel and be on our way."
Pros: "Ground delay but we still got there in time and I made a close connectionshort flight"
Cons: "Food was bad and crew never ask for food to economy passengers for long hour flight meal plan was not working I felt hungry and ac was too cold for all the time nothing good entertainment movies for different languages and no providing small personal hygiene kits for long flight"
Pros: "Flight crew somehow noticed that we had someone in our party who could use some extra consideration. They pre boarded us as a result! They were also extra considerate during the flight."
Pros: "Very professional. Overall great. WiFi was free. Very fast. Left 3 minutes early and arrived 17 minutes early."
Cons: "Made me reprint my boarding pass. Bad food. No outlets. No in-flight entertainment."
Pros: "Great free Wi-Fi with a variety of movies to watch. Helpful, friendly crew."
Pros: "Excellent for a short flight. Good entertainment and a smooth ride."
